UPDATE: Rick Perry’s speaking style proves to be no more dynamic than his debating style, which surprises me. Even from a prepared script, his delivery was flat and awkward and didn’t exactly light the conservative audience at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center afire.
According to officials with the Georgia Public Policy Foundation, Perry had agreed to use the podium to discuss policy issues and not as a forum for attacking fellow Republicans. The Texas governor did not abide by that agreement, taking several shots at fellow frontrunner Mitt Romney.
Without actually naming Romney, Perry took issue with a certain governor from Massachusetts whose health-care plan “paved the way for ObamaCare” and who signed into law a regional cap-and-trade system to address climate change.
“I knew when I got into this race that I’d have my hands full fighting President Obama’s big-government agenda,” he said. “I just didn’t think it would be in the Republican primary.”
Perry also cited news reports in which the CEO of a major American corporation had said that it had become easier to do business in China than in the United States. He didn’t happen to mention that the CEO in question was Muhtar Kent of Coca Cola, a company with a rather high profile in these parts. It’s the kind of small but telling oversight that reflects poor staff work and a campaign and candidate not yet ready for prime time.
According to Perry staff, the governor will spend the rest of the day in Atlanta at fundraisers before flying to New Hampshire for a town hall meeting.
——
I’m at the Cobb Galleria waiting to hear Texas Gov. Rick Perry speak to the conservative Georgia Public Policy Foundation’s legislative policy conference. A lot of curiosity about the man and his message, although he’s only scheduled for 15 minutes. This is an important audience for someone without a large organization in Georgia. An audition, you might say.

Mighty Righty @ 11:20,
The liberal media realizes that every time Obama’s speeches are shown on TV that his ratings dive faster than when they aren’t.
Were Bush in this ratings free-fall, we’d have CNN doing hour-by-hour coverage the way the weather channel covers hurricanes.

Aquagirl,
We’re NOT seeing anything wrong with teleprompters. I like having a president with too much youth, ideology and inexperience having the ubiquitous and self-evident symbols of someone who can’t function without pre scripted instructions. He can’t even announce a minor deputy level appointment or go “out among the people” without teleprompters:
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0309/19663.html
Direct Excerpt from Politico story above: Obama’s reliance on the teleprompter is unusual — not only because he is famous for his oratory, but because no other president has used one so consistently and at so many events, large and small…….
“It’s just something presidents haven’t done,” said Martha Joynt Kumar, a presidential historian who has held court in the White House since December 1975. “It’s jarring to the eye. In a way, it stands in the middle between the audience and the president because his eye is on the teleprompter.”
Just how much of a crutch the teleprompter has become for Obama was on sharp display during his latest commerce secretary announcement. The president spoke from a teleprompter in the ornate Indian Treaty Room for a few minutes. Then Gov. Gary Locke stepped to the podium and pulled out a piece of paper for reference.
The president’s teleprompter also elicited some uncomfortable laughter after he announced Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as his choice for Health and Human Services secretary. “Kathy,” Obama said, turning the podium over to Sebelius, who waited at the microphone for an awkward few seconds while the teleprompters were lowered to the floor and the television cameras rolled.
Obama has relied on a teleprompter through even the shortest announcements and when repeating the same lines on his economic stimulus plan that he’s been saying for months — whereas past presidents have mostly worked off of notes on the podium except during major speeches, such as the State of the Union.
I think it’s perfect for whatever he does. I even like the fact that he travelled around on airplanes to get to his Canadian-made busses, on his fake bus tour paid for by taxpayer dollars, so he could speak in front of 2000 total people on a fake ginned-up “talking” tour.
I really really like these teleprompters, Aquagirl, because it explodes the myth of “good, articulate and clean” (Joe, the dunce, Biden’s famous quote) (the articulate part, anyway), and let us not forget how little those things mean if one is to be President of the US.
It’s just a good reminder that we need to have higher standards next time–a reminder I agree whole-heartedly with.

Kudos to the AJC for including the story on their website. Had to dig a little deeper to get the details. I guess the greeter was a hater and disrespected her.

Most if not all of your views are so far out of the mainstream with what America is about.
so which of these views are so far out of the mainstream, USMC? You said “most if not all”, so you surely have assembled a few examples for me, yes?
I won’t be real picky. As previously stated, if you can give me some of Jay’s positions that are supported by less than 33% of Americans in an issue poll conducted by a reputable pollster, I’ll consider that as qualifying for “out of the mainstream.”
So which positions, USMC? Care to back up those words of yours?
Because I don’t think you can; I don’t think you knew, when you wrote that stuff, how Americans actually poll on the issues, and if you’ve dug into the subject a bit you’ve learned that they’re probably a lot more liberal than you like to imagine.

Take it up with Jon Stewart !
this may shock you Scout, but I don’t think Jon Steward is right all the time. In fact, I think he is kind of a wuss, politically, a lot of the time.

It’s only because he uses the teleprompter when conversing with his own daughters, who are about the same age.

So which positions, USMC? Care to back up those words of yours?
I think you’re wasting your time, dB.
Judging by the smack-down that happened downstairs, USMC will likely ignore you, change nom-de-blogs or run and hide at Kyle’s.

“nope i find most whites to be condescending and of low moral character, so i dont have any white friends”–Liberalefty
That’s what I thought.
I hope someday you find some self-esteem and realize that “white people” (whatever that means) aren’t better than you.
I think a good first step would be to let go of all of the built up Hate in your heart and stop blaming other people for your problems.
You will live a longer and happier life!

stands,
I’ll stick with professional polling organizations like Gallup and Rasmussen. The newspapers and network news organizations I’ve found to often be inaccurate.

Actually, the media is interested only in making money and the Michael Jackson story is far more appealing and meaningfull to dumbed down America than boring Presidential politics. It’s also much easier to understand and requires little, if any, mental effort at all.

I paraphrased the essence of his statement
You need to work a bit on your paraphrasing skills then. As I said earlier, just saying that Biden said they were responsible is NOT what he said. Had you paraphrased by saying that they were responsible for the recovery and/or current state, then you’d be paraphrasing in my opinion. To just say that they were responsible makes it seem as if he said they were responsible for everything, including the initial collapse, when we both know that they were not even in office yet.
Hope that helps you a bit. If you still choose to stand by your paraphrasing, so be it. Just understand that your paraphrase can be interepreted in many different ways, some of which are nowhere near what Biden meant.

you obviously didn’t look at the website–pollingreport simply reposts polling from all kinds of organizations. See, for example, their job ratings page for Obama:
