Is GOP field about to get a major new entrant?

Under the headline “Chris Christie seriously considering run for president in 2012,” the Star Ledger in New Jersey reports:

cannon3-1

BATON ROUGE — Gov. Chris Christie is seriously rethinking his months of denials and may launch a campaign for the White House after all, a source close to the governor said tonight.

In the last week, Christie has been swayed away from his earlier refusals to run by an aggressive draft effort from a cadre of Republicans and donors unhappy with the GOP field, said the source, who was not authorized to speak publicly and requested anonymity….

At a campaign rally here today for Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Christie continued to criticize Obama’s leadership, but ignored several questions from reporters about whether he would seek the White House.

“If you’re looking for leadership in America you’re not going to find it in the Oval Office,” Christie said today in Baton Rouge.

The rally and a fundraiser afterward capped off a cross-country tour by the governor, where his Reagan Library speech Tuesday served to only stoke speculation that he might reverse course and seek the Republican nomination for president…

In addition, the governor’s wife, Mary Pat, no longer objects to a presidential run, according to an adviser to the governor.

The governor has famously said “my wife would kill me” as a reason not to run. However, a few months ago former first lady Barbara Bush called Mary Pat to assuage her concerns about life in the White House, the adviser said.

If so, welcome to the Big Top, governor. Given factors such as geography (another Northeast governor) and where he falls on the political spectrum, the person with the most to lose from Christie’s entry would be Mitt Romney. And it would certainly add some intrigue to the next Republican debate.

Let’s hope so…he’s the second coming of Reagan and Obama is the second coming of Jimmy Carter. We desperately need history to repeat itself by making Carter/Obama a one lousy termer. If Christie runs and selects Rubio from FL as his VP, it is a LOCK for the GOP taking the white house, along with the senate and keeping the house in their column. Keep hope alive!

I find it interesting that conservatives criticize liberals for imortalizing O’bama but yet they continue to label various candidates as the next savior of the Republican party, e.g. Perry, Ryan, Rubio and now Christie.

Seems you are simply picking on overweight people, and any others who are raising issue about Christies’s health but remained silent about the health risk caused by smoking during the last presidential election. Either you are picking on those people who are overweight or you are trying to smoehow use Gov. Christies weight as some type of political leverage. But the facts show smoking is waaaay more dangerous to ones health and you never once on this blog ever made a suggestion that we keep in mind Pres. Obama smoking habit as part of the dicussion, because it is a serious health concern. Now did you?????

Right before the lineup cards were being exchanged on the field, a noise from above distracted the spectators as the 55-foot long helicopter buzzed over trees in left field, circled the outfield and landed in an adjacent football field. Christie disembarked from the helicopter and got into a black car with tinted windows that drove him about a 100 yards to the baseball field.

it would be really refreshing to see a large group of health care workers, thinkers, engineers, analysts, researchers and the like getting together to hash out a truly reasonable, fair and practical solution to this problem.

Through that GOP permafog, it’s hard to see things, but that has already happened.

If i remember correctly, the President’s smoking habit was brought up quite often during the ‘08 race. Just like President Clinton’s weight was brought up during the ‘92 race. A presidential canidates health is very important. Everyone sees what the office does to a person. The stress ages them greatly . If you add stress to Christie’s weight, you are looking at a heart attack in the WH. And that would not be good.

However my “complaint” is that those raising questions about Christies weight and implying it would somehow effect his ability to perform the job were silent about Obama’s smoking habit, and smoking is much more of a killer than weight control. At least statistically in the US.

2) regarding today’s killing, honestly, I don’t know how I feel about it. IF he did what they said, then he died as he lived and good riddance. A trial would have been nice.

3) my problems with the TDavis killing is that: 1) I’m against the death penalty. period. it doesn’t deter. 2) the fact that people in the jury / prosecution / defense – are fallible and make mistakes. and 3) the supposed eye witnesses recanted their testimony.

Since Christie does not appease the evangelicals, watch out for a religious nut to be his running mate… like Bachman. Now, given Christie’s obvious obesity…and the stress of being the potus, it’s not a stretch to worry about a heart attack taking him out…leaving us with Bachman or worse.
