As September began, the Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox were cruising to all-but-inevitable spots in the post-season. Today, after a month of some of the worst baseball by contending teams in MLB history, they are perilously close to going home early in what would be a pair of record-setting collapses.
Rick Perry can surely relate.

Gov. Rick Perry greets pitcher Mike Jackson after throwing out the first pitch in a 2001 Astros game (AP photo)
A month ago, the Texas governor was a formidable political figure. Within days of entering the GOP presidential race, he enjoyed double-digit leads in the polls, a growing campaign treasury and the enthusiastic backing of a Republican base excited to have a viable alternative to Mitt Romney.
“If (Rick) Perry can prove that he can perform on the national stage,” I wrote in late August, “the nomination is all but his and there’s nothing Romney can do about it.”
But Perry has done the opposite. In a series of debate performances, each one worse than the previous, he has performed terribly on the national stage. He has exposed himself as a man who doesn’t know much and doesn’t even know that he doesn’t know much. In fact, we haven’t seen a political crash-and-burn this spectacular since the former mayor of Wasilla, Alaska swapped reading lists with Katie Couric.
As that great political strategist Yogi Berra once observed, it ain’t over ’til it’s over. Like the Braves and Red Sox, Perry still has hope. But so far he shows no sign that his fumbling performance is anything but a permanent state of affairs. In fact, watching a smiling Romney play with Perry in the last two debates has been like watching a cat toying with a very frightened, confused mouse.
Unless that changes, the 2012 Republican standard bearer looks to be the man who created the model for ObamaCare, who believes that mankind contributes significantly to global warming, who opposes the teaching of creationism and who signed a state law banning assault weapons, noting that “these guns are not made for recreation or self-defense; they are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.”
As for Perry? Well, as Yogi also noted, “the future ain’t what it used to be.”

That’s what happens when they declare front runners before people have a chance to learn anything about them. Perry is like a restaurant that good good reviews but then you eat there and the food doesn’t sit so well.

Since Nixon, evangelicals have chosen the Republican nominee.

It’s not about NATIONAL polling, it’s about state-by-state polls and although Romney easily wins up north, he struggles with anyone that has a drawl or claims that their life is led by Jesus (of course, the direction they’re being led has nothing to do with anything Jesus believed, but whatever).

As for the things Jay mentioned of Romney, that makes me consider him. But, I also considered McCain before I realized he had turned away from nearly all of those positions. Perry pointed out (less than eloquently) the flip-flop nature of Romney. If Romney changes his positions so fast and always to whatever position he thinks is popular for his audience, all the time, then I think that disqualifies him from being credible should he be in office. Maybe he’ll switch parties when he gets in the White House! Who knows!

Dear Hobbitt @ 11:57, mixed feelings about TARP. I opposed it, but in all fairness the Bush-portion of TARP has been repaid almost 100%. Thus overstated the Bush deficit, and as those revenues are credited to Chauncey, TARP understates the Obama deficit.

Superb analogy and article, Jay.
The reason I never wager? I said three weeks ago, when the Braves had a 9.5 game lead, that there would be October baseball in their future. Now? Here’s to hoping the MLB worst Astros play good enough to eliminate the Cards.
And the Braves take at least one from the Phillies.
As for Perry, some contend that he is unelectable based on his obvious dumbassedness. Not so fast there, kiddies.
Has everyone already forgotten 2000? AND 2004? When the mental midget from Texas swept in on nothing but cheap talk and a history of ignored failures?
Which brings me to yet another inane reference to Carter.

Well, I’m just crushed—crushed, I tell you—by Perry’s big flops in the debates. We can’t have a Mormon as President, so I got a idea about how Perry can get back to the top so he can pick Bachmann as his VP and set about praying the Gays straight for four years or, heck, even eight.
Just don’t answer any questions when on the stage. If somebody ask you something, just say “I agree with that feller over there”—then point to somebody. They say Calvin Coolidge got along good without saying anything. Well, Perry needs to learn from somebody that’s been where he wants to go.
And if he’s ever asked about immigration, just say “I’m flat-out against it.” He’ll gets lots of applause and Conservatives will flock to the polls to vote for him.
I know, I’m just a humble beer truck driver and he probly won’t listen to me. But if he takes my advise, he’ll be President of the U.S. of A. He don’t have to look too far to find a recent President that never hardly knowed anything and got two terms. In Perry’s case, dumb is good—in both meanings of that term.
Have a good p.m. everybody.

Maybe we just need to simplify the political process to accomodate the 24/7, instant gratification, want it now mentality of the average citizen. Here’s my suggestion:
1. Monday – All candidates will be announced
2. Tuesday – A 1 hour debate in which each candidate will have 5 minutes to announce plan of action for their adminstration.
3. Wednesday – Voting will begin between 7:00am and 7:00pm.
4. Thursday – Elaection results will be announced.
5. Friday – Swearing in of new POTUS will occur at 9:00am.
POTUS will have 30 days to correct all problems, or will face impeachement.

All representatives including the House, Senate and the POTUS will be hired on a 90 day probationary period. Should the candidates fail to meet the minimum acceptable requirements of the position, they will face disciplinary action up to and including termination.

It appears that the primary process is working. Unlike events of 2008 when the liberal shills in the media were waxing romantic of “leg tingles”, the eventual Republican nominee WILL actually have been vetted.
Due to the increasingly more obvious unpreparedness for the job and lack of understanding of simple economic / political history, the eventual opponent seems to be shrinking faster than any of them.
The Republican nominee is probably on the stage right now and it is pretty safe to bet that it will possibly not be Romney.

Apparently Jay missed the results of the Florida straw poll this weekend. Bush lite 1 and Bush lite 2 (Romney and Perry) are not going to get support from conservatives.
We’ve got to get the early primaries out of the libereral northern states. Too many real conservatives are dropping out of the race early after poor showings in liberal land.

In the wake of the Bush presidency, it is probably (in the first place) a bad idea to run for this office as a governor of Texas. But, on top of that, Perry seems a lot like Bush and doesn’t even seem to know it. I have a number of concerns over him, the biggest being his seeming pride and almost sense of entitlement. I will likely wind up supporting Romney, but his vacillation on key issues leads me to think he really isn’t a principled man – that he’s more about appearances. Why can’t either party seem to nominate truly exceptional candidates (and don’t even BEGIN to argue that Obama, with his razor thin credentials and involvement in Chicago politics, was such a one)? That is the most frustrating thing for I think a lot of voters. These are extremely critical times and we can ill afford another Bush or Obama at the helm.

Dear Midori @ 12:34, “if you’re “that” concerned, it would follow you’ve contacted house leadership demanding they pass Obama’s jobs bill.”
I concede that there would be some justice in imposing an explicitly-labeled ObamaNomics bill onto the voting masses. I hesitate only because of the damage it would inflict on the country. Probably the best compromise would be to impose the Obama “jobs” bill only on three conditions: (1) made retroactive to Jan 2011, (2) effective for one year only, and (3) imposed only on those states that voted for the president in 2008. Sort of a poetic justice, and a fresh reminder for those voters for 2012.

Hey Jay, do you ever intend to do a column about Obama’s inordinate and heavy reliance upon rhetoric, which has become increasingly disingenuous and vapid? Surely this could not have escaped your notice and, if you wished to be intellectually honest, you’d address it. I would contend that in this regard, he is not unlike Perry – that is, in his pride, he simply imagines he can talk people into seeing eye to eye with him without the use of a lot of reason or factual evidence. I mean, really – making the exemptions given to jet owners THE metaphor for the wealthy escaping paying their “fair share” of taxes as part of the deficit problem (when those taxes amount to an infinitesimal – almost microscopic – portion of the overall tax burden) is a vapid argument. But then, to repeat it like nine time in 15 minutes! Does he even realize what he sounds like? It’s like he’s trying to convince 3rd graders of the rightness of his position. He should also realize, a Mark Anthony he is not.

The problem is that if he were elected, his presidential health care insurance would have to be rescinded due to pre-existing conditions and then the taxpayers would have to pick up the tab for a Lloyds of London Free Market Insurance Policy covered by an AIG-issued AAA-rated CDS which is worthless so if he ever got sick, the taxpayers would end up paying free market rates at the nearest emergency room that would demand cash in advance which we do not have and so he would have to just lay there while the Congress debated raising the debt ceiling enough to allow them to run to China and take out an emergency CRA-backed liar loan just to get him looked at and that’s not even the worst of it. Besides, Christie ain’t near the size of President William Howard Taft. Taft tipped the scales at just under 500 lbs. Once he went on vacation and wrote a friend he had just got back from horseback riding. The friend wrote back, “How’s the horse?”

And I seriously doubt a guy who makes a movie “Capitalism- A love Story” is being complimentary of capitalism in that movie. If someone believes that then they probably believe in the tooth fairy.
According to the filmmaker, his previous work about subjects as varied as automakers and health care all relate to capitalism. Moore: “These are all spokes to the hub. And that hub is capitalism. And it’s a system that’s anti-American, meaning that it’s anti-democratic.”
Moore also said that capitalism is anti-Jesus and goes against the major religions. “It goes completely against the values of Jesus and Moses and Mohamed and Buddha… You will be judged by how you treat the poor.”

The 2012 election will not be an up-or-down vote on Obama, but rather a choice between the president and another candidate, so head-to-head match-ups against the top GOP candidates are a better test of Obama’s electoral strength.
The survey indicates that Romney fares best against Obama. It’s basically all tied up with 49 percent for Obama and 48 percent for Romney in a hypothetical two-way match-up. According to the poll, Obama holds a five point margin over Perry, 51 percent to 46 percent.
In a hypothetical matchup between Paul and Obama, the president holds a four point margin, 51 percent to 47 percent. Obama handily beats Bachmann and Palin in two-way match-ups. But keep in mind, as always, that polls taken more than a year before the election have little or no predictive value.
Obama’s ace-in-the-hole remains the fact that he is personally more popular than his policies. According to the poll, his favorable rating, which measures reactions to him personally, is eight points higher than his job approval rating. Fifty-two percent of all Americans disagree with him on issues, but 58 percent believe he has the personality and leadership qualities a president should have. And by a 49 to 43 percent margin, Americans say that personal qualities are more important than issues to their vote for president.
Only Romney matches up well with Obama on both of those measures. Six in ten Americans say Romney has the personal qualities a president should have, compared to only 45 percent who feel that way about Perry.

Economic policy failed for three reasons: (1) policymakers focused on enabling offshoring corporations to move middle class jobs, and the consumer demand, tax base, GDP, and careers associated with the jobs, to foreign countries, such as China and India, where labor is inexpensive; (2) policymakers permitted financial deregulation that unleashed fraud and debt leverage on a scale previously unimaginable; (3) policymakers responded to the resulting financial crisis by imposing austerity on the population and running the printing press in order to bail out banks and prevent any losses to the banks regardless of the cost to national economies and innocent parties.
[I]n the last 10 years, the US lost 54,621 factories, and manufacturing employment fell by 5 million employees.
The wage differential is substantial. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as of 2009, average hourly take-home pay for US workers was $23.03. Social insurance expenditures add $7.90 to hourly compensation and benefits paid by employers add $2.60 per hour for a total labor compensation cost of $33.53.
In China as of 2008, total hourly labor cost was $1.36, and India’s is within a few cents of this amount. Thus, a corporation that moves 1,000 jobs to China saves saves $32,000 every hour in labor cost. These savings translate into higher stock prices and executive compensation, not in lower prices for consumers who are left unemployed by the labor arbitrage.
Most emphasis is on the lost manufacturing jobs. However, the high speed Internet has made it possible to offshore many professional service jobs, such as software engineering, Information Technology, research and design. Jobs that comprised ladders of upward mobility for US college graduates have been moved offshore, thus reducing the value to Americans of many university degrees. Unlike former times, today an increasing number of graduates return home to live with their parents as there are insufficient jobs to support their independent existence.
All the while, the US government allows in each year one million legal immigrants, an unknown number of illegal immigrants, and a large number of foreign workers on H-1B and L-1 work visas. In other words, the policies of the US government maximize the unemployment rate of American citizens.
Republican economists and politicians pretend that this is not the case and that unemployed Americans consist of people too lazy to work who game the welfare system. Republicans pretend that cutting unemployment benefits and social assistance will force “lazy people who are living off the taxpayers” to go to work.

If you have a specific and substantive criticism of anything in that movie, then trot it on out, Cowboy.
“According to the filmmaker, his previous work about subjects as varied as automakers and health care all relate to capitalism. Moore: “These are all spokes to the hub. And that hub is capitalism. And it’s a system that’s anti-American, meaning that it’s anti-democratic.”
You must not have seen the movie. I vividly recall a section of the movie in which he waxes poetic about his youth and the many benefits his family enjoyed *as a result of living in a capitalist system.*
“Moore also said that capitalism is anti-Jesus and goes against the major religions. “It goes completely against the values of Jesus and Moses and Mohamed and Buddha… You will be judged by how you treat the poor.”
I disagree. My recollection of the film is that Moore explains that *the excesses* of capitalism as it is currently *practiced and defended* is as you describe it. Moore doesn’t categorically reject capitalism; far from it. He points out how his own family benefited from it, yet he also points out how capitalism is quick to abandon current employees and factories when cheaper labor becomes available overseas. It is the fickleness of capitalism and its excesses that he ridicules in his film, IMO.

Nope. Haven’t seen Moore’s movie. I read enough reviews on it to see it for what his movies always are- nothing more than one sided propoganda. Why would I waste my time on someone that everyone knows is a kook? I wouldn’t waste any more time on his nonsensical crap then I would reading Aryan nation propoganda. Here is one of the reviews that pretty much typifies a Michael Moore movie.
The premise of Moore’s film is simple: Capitalism is severely hurting our society, and if not stopped could lead to its downfall (like hubris causing the fall of ancient Rome). Moore uses a variety of evidence to support his claim, including personal anecdotes, historical footage, Moore’s own rants, interviews with politicians and economic experts and a new addition — my personal favorite — Youtube videos, including the famous fake Cleveland (“We’re not Detroit”) tourism video. And of course, like “Sicko” and “Bowling for Columbine,” Moore presents his evidence in a clever and funny way that makes it nearly impossible for the viewer to holistically reject his viewpoint. Forgot to copy and paste but this review was from the Yale Daily news.

Kramer,
I can name a few that didn’t work. Any liberals who want to dispute, fire away.
Cash for Clunkers….. ended up costing the taxpayer nearly double what the government said it would and didn’t accomplish a single damned thing.
The First Stimulus…. an additional money laundering scheme that produced no shovel ready jobs, put us nearly a trillion more dollars in debt and proved what a smart president we have.
Bozocare….. a health care disaster that will cost us more than we have to fund it and make it work and will create more government red tape and lower doctors fees, intrude on our personal lives by telling us that the government can mandate that we purchase a commodity and produce a healthcare system that ultimately tosses old people under the bus , run by a government with a track record that no one could wish for.
Fast and Furious…. a brilliantly conceived plan to trace assault weapons back to their origin. Not to mention that it also created over 1500 weapons for the cartels to use at will and ended up killing at least two of our own border agents. Heads rolled, everyone in the DOJ ran for the doors…. but no one ended up taking responsibility.
Our Border Policy….. or lack of. Thousands of illegals continue to cross out borders each month. We incarcerate thousands of them in our prisons costing us billions to support them. California is about 30B in the tank while being designated the illegal immigrant capital of the US. Perry wants to send them to our schools and no one wants to send them home where they belong.
USPS….. we will soon close thousands of post offices and probably cut Saturday deliveries. All do to the good old government running something that private industry should have taken over long ago.
A Second Jobs Program….. this one will accomplish what the first one did not? Hey, Bozo, we are not that damned stupid to fall for this a second time. Even the CBC takes issue with you on this one.
There are lots more. The greatest bunch of bumblers in the history of American politics. And you want four more years of this? Whose side are you on?

-Republican candidates vie for Fox News chief Roger Ailes’ advice, ear-
According to Newsweek, which published a lengthy profile of Roger Ailes as part of an upcoming cover story on the Republican debates, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty have each sought out the chief of the top-rated cable network in recent months.
Before Perry announced his 2012 bid, he stopped by Ailes’ midtown Manhattan office, and told him he was worried about being able to raise money. “Money will find you if people believe in your message,” Ailes assured Perry, according to Newsweek. (Of Perry’s presidential stature, Ailes said, “If he tells people he’s gonna kick their ass, he might actually do it, which is useful for a president.”)
Romney had dinner with Ailes recently, according to Kurtz:
When Romney himself sought out Ailes for a pasta dinner, the Fox chief was struck by a sense of humor rarely displayed in public. “You ought to be looser on the air,” he said while dropping off the former Massachusetts governor at his hotel.
And three weeks after Tim Pawlenty dropped out of the race, he “showed up to ask for a gig at Fox,” only to be rebuffed by Ailes, who didn’t want to give Pawlenty, then on the verge of endorsing Romney, a job. “I’m not sure I want to sign you as a paid spokesman for Romney,” Ailes said.

Michael Moore do loves his money.
Today, we’re getting reports that Michael Moore is suing his producers, Bob and Harvey Weinstein for profits over his movie “Fahrenheit 9/11.” This puts Michael Moore in the same category as the profit-loving greedy capitalists that he pretends to hate. If his socialism is predicated on the idea that some people don’t have enough, and others have too much, why is Michael Moore quibbling over $2.7 million? If you would have $2.7 million, wouldn’t that qualify as “too much?” Michael Moore’s current net worth is estimated at $25 million, according to celebritynetworth.com. So, apparently, $25 million still qualifies Michael Moore as one of the “have-nots.”

Doom — “According to the reviews I’ve read his movie does exactly that which is to deride and criticize the capitalist system. I don’t think there is any dispute about that Joe. And I’m certain he’s made good money off the film. And I’ve no problem with that. Good for him. I just find it ironical is all.”
He derides and criticizes *the excesses* of the capitalist system. He speaks highly of a ‘golden age’ of capitalism in the postwar period, when business was booming and workers were *sharing* in the wealth with executives and business owners. However, he also illustrates the recent practices that corporations have engaged in *to the egregious benefit* of executives and owners and *to the detriment* of workers. It’s a rather fine point that I think a lot of observers miss — I haven’t read one critical review that even admits to the *existence* of the part of the movie where he speaks *well* of his and his family’s experience in the capitalist system.
During that part, Moore takes his dad to a construction site where a GM plant used to stand — a plant where his dad once worked. His dad *praises* GM and speaks well about his experience and treatment as one of their employees. The impression I got from that part of the film is not *critical* — it’s *complimentary* of how they ran their business and treated their employees back then. This is why I think you should see the movie for yourself, because I don’t think it contains the message you seem to think it does. I think you’re a smart enough guy that you could watch it and figure it out for yourself.
“Joe Mama, How does that contradict my claim? Has the man not made millions on his films including the one on capitalism? The fact that he encourages people to access his movies through free media does not change the fact that he has made millions on these movies now does it?”
Doesn’t mean that he’s conning a “bunch of sheeple to fork over their money to view his nonsense,: either, does it? Someone who was trying to fool people into parting with their money wouldn’t be encouraging people to get it free, now would they?

The law school study examined admissions data for the years 2005 and 2006 after the Wisconsin Supreme Court ordered its release, the National Law Journal reports. In 2006, the law school admitted 43 percent of black applicants, 39 percent of Hispanic applicants, 18 percent of Asian applicants and 24 percent of white applicants. Forty-three percent of the rejected whites had LSAT scores and grades that were higher than the median for black admittees. “Admission officers essentially reach down into the applicant pool and pull up certain students,” the study says.

Kramer: Claiming “class warfare” is playing the victim card. The victim, in this case, is the billionaires and millionaires. Or at least, that is what you are led to believe. There are quite a few other cases but really, all you have to do is find a few quotes containing “class warfare” in recent news. Many of the people claiming class warfare, such as Boehner and Jim DeMint, are millionaires themselves. So they are playing that victim card more directly.
Less recently, we had an instance of a man in Norway who said it was his Christian duty to kill Muslims. He was arrested for related crimes, and Fox personalities decried this as an attack on Christians.
I could go on, but it’s real easy to see if you pay attention that the victim card is a play often used by the right wing personalities and politicians to try to win their side of an argument. Thankfully, the American people aren’t so dumb as to buy it on the “class warfare” phrase.

If the Weinsteins were contractually obligated to pay profits in a certain way and failed to do so, then should Moore allow them to retain those ill-gotten profits?
FWIW, the Weinsteins are wealthier than Moore, so I think your ‘money jingling in the wrong pockets’ construction is a bit poorly-aimed.
One more thing — Moore’s pretty generous with his money. In fact, he’s made at least one significant donation to a major critic of his. Here:

To be honest that’s the first I’ve heard of him offering the movie for free. Regardless though I’m certain he knew that in the first months of the movie people would just go to the theatre and watch it. Not sure if it was out for free distribution during its theatre run or not. Doesn’t matter. I’ve seen one of his movies and bits and pieces of others but when the propoganda got to absurd I just had to turn it off. He tends to play pretty loose with his facts and there was an entire book written detailing his errors and half truths and flat out false statements along with a documentary detailing the same. No thanks. I will say this though. At least the man does have some humor to his films and that does go a long way.

Bookman,
Their protest is all about race and the consequences of being a white student in an Affirmative Action University. They are having a bake sale, selling cupcakes to students price as follows: white students pay $2, asians pay $1.50, hispanics pay $1.00, blacks pay $.75 and females get a $.25 discount. If that is not about race and the consequences of being white and having to pay more, then perhaps I am missing the point. Berkeley is threatening to defund the Republican organization, dropping all school funds in their support. But, as the Repub students stated, this is all about fairness and it boils down to what each race or ethnic group has to pay for their education. Bucknell shut down a similar protest last year. 1st Amendment, anyone?

These students have every right to protest something that they feel is wrong. Even the school newspaper editor stated that, while he didn’t agree with their conclusions, they have every right to express them. I know Berkeley is so liberal that you would not even suspect that a Republican even existed there but they do have every right to express their views about the inequity of Affirmative Action…. like the Congressional Black Caucus, a thing that is way past it’s time.

That donation to his critic you deemed as being “pretty generous with his money”. That donation was only 12 grand. Not impressed. I did look up his philanthropy giving and quite frankly it was not at all impressive. It did show a bunch of different little organizations but it doesn’t show any significant amounts or really any amounts. It just showed organizations that he supposedly donates to. Dick Cheney has donated 20% of his yearly earnings for years. I can’t find anything that shows what Moore donates. I don’t know if its 20% like Cheney or $1,000 like Biden the year before he ran with Obama or the 3-5k that Obama contributed the year before he ran.I suspect that he’s probably like the potus and vice potus where he’s generous with other folks money like with Solyndra but very stingy with his own. But at least with Obama he has been shamed into donating more money then the measley, pitiful amounts he used to donate.

Thulsa: I read all of the “reports” including the one you posted with your post. Nowhere in any of the “reports” could I find the actual number of Black, Hispanic, Asian, or White applicants, nor could I find the actual number of Black, Hispanic, Asian, or White students actually admitted. Only “percentages” lots of percentages.
That would beg the question of whether the potential pool of Black, Hispanic, and/or Asian candidates was so small that the University had to reduce the requirements of those groups to in any way even out the numbers of those candidates.
I would be interested in seeing a post about this that shows the actual numbers instead of percentages.

I really think it puts the lie to people who claim he’s anti-capitalist. I think Moore is opposed to the *excesses* of capitalism, and I’ll freely admit to that. But wholly anti-capitalist? Having seen the movie, I simply don’t think that’s possible. No one who was anti-capitalist would be complimentary of a big corporation like GM.
“I will say this though. At least the man does have some humor to his films and that does go a long way.”

If you can’t win the policy debate just shout them down.
This week, right-wing think tank Center for Equal Opportunity held a press conference in Madison, Wisconsin to tout their recent findings blasting the University of Wisconsin for supposed anti-white policies. The group — dedicated to anti-”Afrocentric”, anti-multicultural, English-only, “colorblind” public policies — insisted the university was supporting “severe discrimination based on race and ethnicity” through its affirmative action policy, giving preferential treatment to African-Americans and Latinos.
Forty-five minutes into the conference, over 100 university students stormed the room chanting “power to the people” and “we’re more than our scores,” effectively shutting down the conference:
[CEO president Roger] Clegg introduced the study at an 11 a.m. news conference Tuesday at the DoubleTree hotel, 525 W. Johnson St. He was immediately peppered with questions from students and faculty members questioning the analysis.
After about 45 minutes, more than 100 students and others stormed into the room, chanting “power to the people!” and “more than our scores!” to a steady drumbeat. Clegg packed up his briefcase and left. Students took over the microphone and began to share personal stories about the value of diversity.

If a group doesn’t file a 990, then there probably won’t be records of amounts or anything like that. Smaller and local groups tend not to be big enough to file 990s.
Doom — “Dick Cheney has donated 20% of his yearly earnings for years.”
I don’t consider donations to PACs or political candidates/parties to be charitable, frankly. And that goes for donations to Republicans and Democrats. Wealthy political candidates aren’t charities IMO.

A press conference is not a debate. But in a civil society you don’t go interrupting someone’s press conference because you don’t like what they say.
To me this is nothing more than leftist students who simply don’t like what someone else is saying so they try to shut them down and disrupt them from saying what they want to say. This happens frequently with conservative speakers on college campuses. If you don’t like what they say then engage them in a civil debate instead of engaging in mob tactics. If they can’t engage in civil debate or protest quietly and peacefully then they should just STFU rather than disrupt someone’s press conference with mob tactics. It goes both ways. Again, I don’t defend or excuse what those students did — and I do think they should have found another way to express their outrage — but what you said about Constitutional rights is a non-starter.
