No. I’m advocating that we go to a racial affirmative action system based on race- just like the libs want it. Too many blacks in basketball- 80% when their population is 13%. Lets shift some of them to swimming, golf(Tiger is only one), badminton, polo, etc. And the lack of Hispanics and Asians in basketball is appalling. We need more Asians now that Yao Ming has retired and I can’t think of one Jose in the NBA. Haven’t seen any minorities in professional bowling- the PBA is clearly a racist organization.

Based on the remarks Phil Kent has put forth on “The Georgia Gang” on Sunday mornings regarding illegal immigrants (and others of color), I am not at all surprised at those words above.

I agree wholeheartedly that Phil Kent should be removed from the Immigration Enforcement Review Board. Governor Deal would be prudent – and wise – to reconsider that appointment. It also reflects adversely upon him.

I think most of us including myself are in favor of affirmative action. But to a degree. For example in the university of Michigan law school case if I remember correctly a white student applying with a 4.0 undergrad GPA had a 2-3% chance of acceptance while a minority with something like a 2.5 GPA had a 100% acceptance rate. That’s just plain wrong. I think any black that applied with a more respectable gpa like 3.5 should have been accepted but 2.5 is ridiculous when whites with 4.0 GPAs were being turned down. Overall though I think affirmative action has generally been good and I certainly want to make sure no one is blatantly discriminated against.

Seriously though I will probably buy a part time retirement home in Central or South America where I will most definitely be in the minority. And it won’t bother me in the least. Right now I’m thinking Argentina, possibly Uruguay or Chile and maybe some time in Costa Rica or Guatemala.

I lived in Guatemala one year when I was a foreign exchange student. Its probably gotten a little meaner and rougher since I’ve been there. When the govt and the rebels quit fighting that left thousands of unemployed guerilla soldiers. An unemployed guerrilla can spell lots of trouble.

Regardless though Guatemala is a country that is absolutely beautiful. Nothing but scenic volcanoes, fast flowing rivers, lakes, oceans on both sides. Freaking awesome country. I’m hoping that it will be back to being more stabilized when I return. Who knows? Maybe they will send everyone up here and retirees like me can then go down there. I’ll take that tradeoff because until you’ve been there you can’t imagine the scenic beauty of the country.

Jay, birds of a feather tend to flock together. It’s always been that way and probably always will be. Commiting cultural suicide in the name of politicial correctness does not seem to be a good idea to me. Obviously, you see it differently. As for blacks and whites, I’ve been convinced for many years now that a vast majority of “African-Americans” hate the white man’s guts and always will. You cannot get an EITC if you file income taxes with an ITIN. The Bush stimulus tax rebates were not allowed for people that file with an ITIN. If you filed jointly with a valid SS number and an ITIN you couldn’t get the stimulus rebate. I think this issue is way overblown.

I don’t understand why in this day and age anyone gets a tax credit for each child they produce. Reform the tax code, tax everyone with a low progressive rate and no deductions, top it off at 10% and be done with it.

Well maybe you should wake up and see life for what it is. The majority of Black Americans have much more on their agenda than “Hate Whitey”. There’s probably a nice sized group that has that on their calendar, but a majority??? Hell naw!!!! There’s probably a part of that group that has good reason to “Hate Whitey”, but I don’t understand why you or anyone else would think, suggest, generalize, or any other verb that the majority of Black Americas hate Whites.

Many of us have Whites directly in our lineage and/or living family, so to hate Whites is to hate ourselves. If you focused more effort into forging positive relationships with ALL Americans instead of fearing a certain group, you would have no reason to harbor such thoughts.

My wife’s Hispanic and from the West Coast. While she wasn’t a member of MECHA in college, she was friends with many of their members.

In my experience, people who tell you that “La Raza” means “the race” (which is a literal translation) are either boneheaded ignorant about the group or are else *knowingly* trying to mislead others about it. Given Doom’s previously-expressed and -demonstrated expertise with and knowledge of Hispanic culture, I have to wonder just which category he’s falling into.

I hope it’s the ignorant one, because I would hate to think that he’s being this deliberately dishonest about what NCLR is and what it does.

There are those from your team who’ve made that statement on more than one occasion. I’ve seen it at least half a dozen times. They deliver it as a threat…like it’s a bad thing or somethin’. I always laugh when I see it.

In my little world (Clayton County) I hear a great deal of animosity directed towards Latinos (illegal or legal) coming from the Black community. That may turn out to be a big problem for President Obama.

Last I checked, there were far more Blacks unemployed than there were Latinos.

Not really; she was born in El Centro, CA, but did most of her growing up in coastal OR, which is generally lily-white.

She actually seems to favor the style and seasonings of the Caribbean; she makes a Cubano dish called Morroz y Cristenos (Moors & Christians) which involves black beans (the Moors), white rice (the Christians) and then peppers, seasonings and shredded pork — I don’t know if that’s traditional, but that’s how she makes it. We also enjoy us some fresh, hot plantains, right out of the pan. When she makes rice, she prefers to make it with chicken stock (not water) and a couple of cubes of frozen, compressed garlic (you can get it at Trader Joe’s in the frozen section) and when you open the rice cooker, there’s this incredible AROMA all over the house.

She’s actually pretty adventurous and accepting of other cultures’ foods; I got her turned on to Korean food a few years ago, and now she’s all into bulgogi, hot spicy ramyeon, kal-bi and yaki mandu.

Joe Momma: My MIL is Korean, I learned how to make it from her. You just need a couple of hours to marinade. And yes, either pan saute it with garlic and onions, or better yet grill it. both turn out well.

They also do it with short ribs. I love it with short ribs, but my daughter doesn’t like the fat on those.

LOL doesn’t matter, I changed my mind again. I have about 10 lb’s of jumbo shrimp I need to cook. Trying to decide how to do it. Grilled on the egg, Jambalya, Shrimp fried rice. Butterflied and fried. Sautee’d in a picatta sauce and served over angel hair, shrimp soft tacos? I can never decide when I’m hungry lol.

Yes and no. It IS used as a condiment, but also often in cooking. While it’s not a “common” version to use the gochujaung, it is sometimes done and I wondered if that was the type you had had before. Given that the person in question was directly advocating the use of bullets if ballots failed to accomplish their objective, I am not as charitable as you appear to be. We have an example of a now-sitting Republican Congressman’s campaign functionary directly advocating violence *during the campaign* and we can’t get anyone on this thread to react to it.

I think that’s pretty sad.

Yes, Mr. West sent her packing. But I didn’t hear *anyone* on the right — with weight or without it — call her out and denounce her statement. And yet out conservative friends and neighbors here are about to pee their collective drawers over something *less* directly threatening.

That’s part of the point I was getting at. I’m more than certain that you’ve heard many different viewpoints from the Black community, especially living in Montgomery.

When it comes to the younger generations, we are a mirror of the world that we’ve been raised in. Many of us do not carry the racial animosities of our parents and grandparents, because most of us have not been victim of the open hostilities that were present in the 1960’s. We’re shaped more by what we actually experience as opposed to what we’ve been told happened to people before we were born.

When you tar an entire group of people based on the actions of a few, you will end up ginning up animosity from the majority of the group. For me personally, I’m beginning to get tired of hearing how much of a failure I am, how much I hate Whites, and how I’m never gonna amount to anything because I’m on welfare. None of those things accurately reflect me or just about all of my family. We all work hard for what we have. There’s been a few screwups along the way, but we’re no more a burden on society than society is on us. You’d think otherwise though, listening to some of the stuff here today.

But mere moments later you aren’t willing to paint the Tea Party with the same brush when it comes to racism. True enough, their stated goal may be fiscal sanity, but that does not excuse the open racism displayed by many in the “movement”, even by some in leadership roles. Someone with your supposed intellect surely must understand that in the world of public opinion perception equals reality. And yet it seems to pass your notice that just as many people find the TP racist as find the CBC racist. To dismiss the efforts of an entire group of people based on the ill-advised speech making of one of its members is infantile thought, certainly, it would seem, beneath someone like the person you envision yourself to be.

Then you cap all of this off with your incredibly hubristic statement to Adam, Fred, and Bosch:

Bosch – every county decides the amount of foodstamps given to families based upon income. If an illegal claims zero income they get the full amount. There are families making $1100 a month on disability that qualify for $36 dollars a month in foodstamps. If there was more money available (minus illegal immigrants) to the counties, does it not seem realistic that more families would get a few more dollars for food?

First: Republicans are not German Nazis however you insinuate that..

Second: We have free speech and Kent is no more outspoken or outrageous in his views than black bigots, brown bigots and red bigots. We do know where he stands.

Third: My son-in-law is a legal American citizen because he came legally and went through the seven years it took to become a citizen. Believe it or not, I see no prejudice against legal citizens who come from South America. He has not mentioned any. It is “illegals” who not only hurt themselves but other legal immigrants who enrich this country every day. The complaints are about ILLEGALS who are breaking the laws of the USA.

I can understand your sensitivity with dire foreboding on such subjects. I would not have chosen Mr. Kent even for a small board but Gov. Deal may be offsetting the push of others. Perhaps we should ask him but only after Bookman gets through railing and ranting.
