Look out Bruce, trouble with a big ‘T’ travelin’ north

With Irene barreling north, taking apparent direct aim at New Jersey and its environs this weekend, I thought it would be appropriate to feature the Bard of the Jersey Shore, Bruce Springsteen, to take us into weekend.

I know it’s not the merriest of introductions, but I have eerie flashbacks to six years ago to the date, looking at satellite photos of big ugly Katrina in the Gulf and thinking oh my goodness, that’s a world of hurt right there.

Anyway, maybe BRRRUUUUUUUUCCCE!, live from Barcelona, can cheer us up! BRRRUUUUUUUUCCCE! BRRRUUUUUUUUCCCE! BRRRUUUUUUUUCCCE! BRRRUUUUUUUUCCCE! BRRRUUUUUUUUCCCE! BRRRUUUUUUUUCCCE! BRRRUUUUUUUUCCCE!

Have no fear of the Cyclone.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is on it……………The NHC is a component of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP).
To meet its mission, the NHC is composed of several units. The Hurricane Specialist Unit (HSU) maintains a continuous watch on tropical cyclones and provides watch and warning recommendations to other World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Region IV meteorological services.Don’t forget the…………………..
The Tropical Analysis and Forecast Branch (TAFB)…These guys generate analyses and forecasts over the tropical and subtropical eastern North and South Pacific and the North Atlantic basins year-round.In conjucnction with these guys………………
The Technology & Science Branch (TSB),, develops and transitions new tools and techniques into operations for tropical weather prediction.
The Hurricane Liaison Team (HLT) ,also has our back ,by supporting hurricane response operations through the rapid exchange of information between the NHC, the National Weather Service (NOAA/NWS), and the emergency management community. The team establishes and facilitates video and/or teleconferences with the NHC, FEMA and other Federal agencies, state Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs), Hydrometeorological Prediction Center (HPC), Storm Prediction Center (SPC), and River Forecast Centers (RFCs).
.
Supposingly, all of these guys have been woke up………………………..and they’re watching Irene.
……..after consulting with an old shrimper dude.

Was handing beers to Jim Babjack (he liked Sam Adams) and at the end of the show he handed me a pick and shook my hand. Great band. JTP2, I beg to differ. Bruce was “the boss from ‘75-’85, but the Smithereens were the real deal. Plus, I am not sure being a Springsteen roadie is a desirable gig. in the early 90’s a couple of his long time roadies sued him for back pay, overtime, etc.

and Springsteen faithful may be familiar with the story about how while recording Born in the USA, Jon Landau was ragging Bruce about “no single” for the album (this is when artists sold LPs), so Bruce kinda re-worked a tune he had been working on for the Ramones; and Landau said something like; “…call Joey and tell him sorry, you’ll write him another song…” and the rest is history (Bruce’s first Top Ten SINGLE)

I quit listening to the radio many years ago because of the crap stations they have in Atlanta….I’m no fan of these amped in guitars that totally destroy any lyrics that may be produced. It just sounds like these so-called rock & rollers hide the garage they emit, with the sound of their amps tuned to blast ones eardrums out of kilter.

carlos, it’s a tough call, because from 75-85 he put out some great stuff, and his live performances were killer. but like others (Stones in particular); when a performer crosses over from musical act to commercial enterprise, it’s tough not to be “overrated”. but yeah, since the late 80’s (post-Tunnel of Love) he’s become more icon than artist. back in 1980, maybe his last interview w/Rolling Stone, John Lennon admited that he likes some of Bruce’s stuff, particularly Hungry Heart from The River, but he added; “…he’s in for a big letdown when the music press realizes he’s not God” kind of a 15 years later commentary on the “we’re bigger than Jesus” dustup.
