An emergency session of Travelin’ Music, to cool things down

Well, I was saving this for tomorrow’s Travelin’ Music, but when disaster looms and it’s time to rush in emergency relief, who am I to hold back? Eric Cantor?

Cool out and enjoy Sister Ella.

Try again. I’ve got a great sense of humor. But, since Jay has exhibited a fondness for trashy, racist songs, how’s this:

What’s Friday got to do with anything. But really nice shots of the kitty cat. I wonder how big it is? It is obviously still a kitten, but it was never shown beside anything that shows its size.

A Buddy used to manage the Knoxville Zoo and I always loved the big cats. They had two white tigers. They were incredible, but he said that they were the only cats that the feeders were not allowed in their cage. They did have that ” you think I’m beautiful and I think you look like lunch” look in their eyes.

Say it ain’t so Libs: Carney claims that Perry called for secession rated False by PolitiFact. I seem to recall several here beating that drum themselves. Don’t let your vitriol get in the way of the facts as you so often say to the Conservatives here.

“Our conclusion was that in a politically theatrical moment, Perry stated an old (and factually incorrect) claim that Texas retains the right to leave the union. That is not the same as his saying giddyap, I want to leave. Perry didn’t call for secession then and hasn’t since.”
“We rate Carney’s statement False.”

“Carney claims that Perry called for secession rated False by PolitiFact. I seem to recall several here beating that drum themselves.”

What was discussed was Gov Perry’s careful wording to give him, as Ollie North put it, ‘plausible deniability.’ Active voice vs passive voice. Not “Texas is gonna secede” but more along the lines of “you know, Texas has a right to secede. That’d be too bad if it ever got to that point, but the way things are going, who knows what might happen in the future?”

If he wasn’t making a secession point to play to the crowd and appeal to their base mentality, then why even bring it up in the first place? Why not a “that kind of talk has no place in responsible political discourse?”

Probably because he doesn’t know what ‘discourse’ means?

I love cats, but they are pure hunters.

Up here in the hills, we still have mountain lions (about the size of a Panther). Very rarely seen, but they are making a comeback. Occasionally someone will find paw prints.

I miss my cat. Both my old cat and my very, very old dag have died since moving out of Atlanta. Now I’m getting misty.

Reb,

” The company immediatley starting causing them more grief”

Yes, that’s been my experience as well. It’s also been my experience that many of the workers do not posess critical thinking skills past say, kindergarten, and they forget that the reason they are there is to perform the care, they are not there to bitch at me, or roll their eyes if we just let the dinner dishes go the night before and determine that somehow is proof of elderly neglect. I mean, if it was actual neglect, there would be no freaking dishes in the sink — hence we didn’t feed the old folk, and I wouldn’t have arranged for their sorry ass to even be there. See what I mean?

Oddly enough, we got more help from calling in hospice. Not sure about all hospice care, but the company we worked with, they were much more professional, and seemed to employ people who had actually graduated from some kind of nursing/medical program.

Again, not sure of all hospice programs, but this one, they weren’t there necessarily as “Angels of Death” — they came in for months (almost a year) before my old person died.

Dad was at Iwo Jima and was hanging P-51s over my crib. Without a doubt, the most beautiful airplane ever created.

Two groups really pissed off the Germans. One was the Tuskeegee Airmen and the other was the Hawaiian group made up of Japanese Americans from Obama’s high School, Panahou.

Both went into combat with a point to prove.

Granny, do you mean “raising the bar” semantically or competitively” because, as far as I know, an ‘accisation’ (sic) has no wrists, which means they cannot be “limp-wristed” (juvenile code of “homosexual” I think?). I tend to agree with Keep up, in that this is playground level stuff; and being the parent of an 11 year-old, I’d say it’s more elementary school playground level, as opposed to middle school.

I was not a cat fan until I got Blu as a kitten and a friend gave me a very good book about cats and insisted that i read it. Once you understand why they do things, it is impossible not to have a lot of respoect for them, and you think God every night that they are not large enough to eat you. (Because they would)

The airconditioning people are here. I designed this house to use several small Mitsubishi Air Units, all tied to a computer so the rooms that were not being used would be allowed to warm up (or cool down in the winter) Mitsubishi notified me that I bought four units (out of six) that are dangerous and need to be replaced. They are paying for everything, but it is going to be a very long weekend.

Paul: What was discussed was Gov Perry’s careful wording to give him, as Ollie North put it, ‘plausible deniability.’

EXACTLY. To put it another way:

“Perry didn’t say that Social Security was unconstitutional, he just said that there was a question as to its constitutionality,” was one argument I heard from a pundit on a similar type of “he almost said that” thing. Perry didn’t say he supported creationism, he just said (wrongly) that Texas schools teach both because he thinks kids are smart enough to know which is true. Perry didn’t say that global warming wasn’t real, just that more and more scientists are questioning whether humans are “the cause.” Perry didn’t say that Obama hates America, he just said some reporter should be a good reporter and “go ask him.”

If you really buy into the benefit of the doubt on all of those that’s your prerogative. But it’s mincing words and we could sit here all day with that. All you can say if you want to stick with science is “we don’t know what his positions really are, because he only ALMOST said those things.” So the real question is, do you want a candidate who you have to give the benefit of the doubt to, or do you want one who is clear on what his positions are on science and the constitution?

GLL, not disputing yout dad’s service record, OR your affinity for the P-51, but the Mustang operated almost exclusively in the European Theatre of Operations during WWII (what Archie Bunker called “the big one”). the Marines and sailors who took Iwo Jima likely benefited from CAS provided by carrier-based F-4U Corsairs, and any of the Grumman F-4 “cats” (Bearcat, Wildcat, Hellcat).

okay … for the guys in the room (since all of you seem to be plane nuts) – when you book a ticket to fly somewhere, do you pay attention to what kind of plane you’re flying in?

I will admit that the Spitfire was a fine aircraft and the wings give the plane a very nice look, but then again, while we are discussing beautiful WWII planes, the gull winged Corsair was one of the runner-ups. As far as one of the best, I would have to give it to the Zero. Not that attractive and had no protection for the pilot, but what a performer.

Bro

The Germans learned quickly not to mess with Americans with a point to prove. Didn’t the Airmen have a zero loss record when protecting B-17s? I had read about them since I was a kid, so I was skeptical when the movie came out, but it was actually pretty accurate.

The story of the Japanese Americans that saved the Texans is one of my favorite stories from WWII. Unfortunately, almost all of them died to save the Texans. We’ve lost almost all of that generation and every single one of my heroes were of that generations.

Fred

Be very proud of that nephew.
