Vacation ramblin’, ramblin’ thoughts and ramblin’ music

fenway

Ah, vacation.

The family wedding and reunion went off beautifully. My brother, sister and I, along with marital units, took in a game at Fenway Park Wednesday (the BoSox, alas, lost 4-0). On Thursday, we went fishing for bluefish and bass off Nantucket and caught probably 40 fish in a few hours. It was crazy. My wife was the day’s top fisher(wo)man, nailing a 36-inch striped bass. Fresh fish for dinner last night.

One of the benefits of having grown up all over the country as a military brat, and working in every corner of the country as an adult, is feeling a connection to all the places I’ve lived over the years. You’re a native nowhere, but a stranger nowhere as well.

As the great Allman Brothers put it …

blue…

read up on him, too…

“At the age of 18, Reinhardt was injured in a fire that ravaged the caravan he shared with Florine “Bella” Mayer, his first wife.[6] They were very poor, and to supplement their income Bella made imitation flowers out of celluloid and paper. Consequently, their home was full of this highly flammable material. Returning from a performance late one night, Reinhardt apparently knocked over a candle on his way to bed. While his family and neighbours were quick to pull him to safety, he received first- and second-degree burns over half his body. His right leg was paralysed and the third and fourth fingers of his left hand were badly burned. Doctors believed that he would never play guitar again and intended to amputate one of his legs.[7] Reinhardt refused to have the surgery and left the hospital after a short time; he was able to walk within a year with the aid of a cane.

His brother Joseph Reinhardt, an accomplished guitarist himself, bought Django a new guitar. With rehabilitation and practice he relearned his craft in a completely new way, even as his third and fourth fingers remained partially paralysed. He played all of his guitar solos with only two fingers, and used the two injured digits only for chord work.”

I know there are not a lot of country music fans here, but tonight I return to the stadium of my high school for the first time in over 30 years. I turned down a playing gig for this. It’s not the Braves, it’s not the Falcons, its my little high school and Friday night football:

Bluefish? I’ve gone down to gulf shores and taken the boat out right off the beach and caught tons of bluefish. Once you stumble upon a school you can literally just throw your line in and yank them out of the water every few seconds. Fun and super easy fish to catch. 36 inch striper? I’m definitely jealous of his mom cause that dwarfs any bass I’ve ever caught. Great thing about fishing in the ocean is that you can be the world’s worst fisherman and still catch all kinds of fish- different ones and lots of em too.

Well, I’m having 2nd thoughts about Bachmann and her corn dog. I read someplace that a overseas news network innervued a guy that use to date Bachman when she was just out of high school. He claimed she made him memorize Bible verses and recite them to her before she would agree to go out with him. Weird.

Now when I was a young buck I could pound a Bible with the best of them. It impressed the girls and made them think I never had on my mind what I had on my mind. But that’s just a act. It gets real serious when you have to recall a bunch of Bible verses just to get a date. It sort of makes things go limp, if you know what I mean. That’s taking things too far.
