A wrapup of the world of politics:
In Wisconsin, voters in six state Senate districts are going to the polls today to decide whether to recall their Republican legislators, each of whom took active roles in passing controversial anti-labor legislation early this year.
If three or more of the seats turn Democratic, the GOP would lose control of the state Senate, Republican Gov. Scott Walker would be rebuked and could face possible recall himself, and Democrats around the country would see the populist-themed campaigns as a template for the 2012 elections.
If not, not.
Polls close at 8 p.m. Central, 9 Eastern, but the races are expected to be tight so we might not know the outcome until early morning.
In Iowa, Republicans are gearing up for the Ames Straw Poll on Saturday, an early test of strength in the race for the GOP presidential nomination. One person not on the ballot is Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who this week has made it as clear as he can — short of a formal declaration — that he intends to run.
According to Politico, “the Texas governor will remove any doubt about his White House intentions during his appearance at a RedState conference in Charleston” Saturday.
According to Gallup, “Perry will start in a strong position relative to other candidates if he decides to enter the presidential race soon. Perry’s Positive Intensity Score is the highest of any Republican tested, and significantly higher than that of presumptive GOP front-runner Mitt Romney.”
Gallup derives its “Positive Intensity Score” by subtracting a candidate’s strongly unfavorable sentiment from strongly favorable.
And finally, in the first poll of its type I’ve seen in the aftermath of the debt ceiling debacle, CNN asked 1,080 Americans how they’re feeling these days about Republicans, Democrats and the Tea Party.
![]()

A month ago, the GOP’s numbers in the same poll were 41 percent approval, 55 percent disapproval. For Democrats, they were 45 percent approval, 49 percent disapproval.
And of course, as a variety of polls have reported, the reputation of Congress in general is in the pits. CNN reports that just 41 percent of Americans believe their own congressman deserves re-election, “the first time ever in CNN polling that that figure has dropped below 50 percent.”
“We could very well see a situation where voters just start throwing incumbents out of windows, with those in competitive seats situated closer to the open windows. Only in the 1992 election, just after the twin House Bank and House Post Office scandals, have we seen an election with more than 10 House incumbents of each party losing reelection to the opposite party, and that was after an unusually large number of retirements and primary-election defeats. Worth noting is that was a post-redistricting election, just as 2012 is. But this one could be much worse than 1992, this is far more consequential than personal financial peccadilloes.”

About the CNN poll: No demographics = No significance. Even worse than Rasmussen, wouldn’t you say, Jay? Didn’t you find it somewhat interesting that the “random, ahem, respondents” were evenly divided when it came to democrats? Did you even care once you saw it helped your cause?
First poll of its type… Yep, pure horse hockey.

I think that after watching Bozo’s news conference today, anyone the Repubs put up could beat him. What a sophomoric attempt at being presidential. Perry is a good choice. Romney is gearing up for a liberal onslaught that the liberals feel is necessary to win. They seem to have nothing else except vilifying rhetoric against any opponent who disagrees with them.

“In Wisconsin, voters in six state Senate districts are going to the polls today to decide whether to recall their Republican legislators” – Who actually stayed and voted and did their damn job. The chicken-sht Dmocrats who ran away are the ones that should recalled. So sad.
“CNN reports that just 41 percent of Americans believe their own congressman deserves re-election” – Vote all the senators and house reps out that are eligible in 2012. Same goes goes the invertebrate in the oval office (can’t even say his name anymore). Period.

A blonde lady motorist was about two hours from San Diego when she was flagged down by a man whose truck had broken down. The man walked up to the car and asked, “Are you going to San Diego?”
“Sure,” answered the blonde, “do you need a lift?”
“Not for me. I’ll be spending the next three hours fixing my truck. My problem is I’ve got two chimpanzees in the back which have to be taken to the San Diego Zoo. They’re a bit stressed already so I don’t want to keep them on the road all day. Could you possibly take them to the zoo for me? I’ll give you $100 for your trouble.”
“I’d be happy to,” said the blonde. So the two chimpanzees were ushered into the back seat of the blonde’s car and carefully strapped into their seat belts, and off they went.
Five hours later, the truck driver was driving through the heart of San Diego when suddenly he was horrified! There was the blonde walking down the street, holding hands with the two chimps, much to the amusement of a big crowd. With a screech of brakes he pulled off the road and ran over to the blond. “What the hell are you doing here?” he demanded, “I gave you $100 to take these chimpanzees to the zoo.”
“Yes, I know you did,” said the blonde. “But we had money left over so now we’re going to Sea World.”

Well, this is the second poll which shows disapproval ratings for the the tea tards at 40+. I believe in the long run they are going to regret running their mouth stating they would love to see the U.S. default on its debt. People are getting tired of the tea party and it shows. And it also shows the tea tards are dragging the POG right down with them.
And while Rick Perry may show strong support early , i think his association with the tea tards will make that support unsustainable. I mean, we are still cleaning up the mess the last Gov. from Texas made.

The clerk told me they (Fulton County) are having something of a crisis. After 2008, the voter registration rolls swelled, but evidently quite a lot of them turned out to just vote for Obama, and are lower income and more transient. Either they don;t update their addresses when they move or they aren’t responding to summons. Either way, the majority of people that show up are middle to upper-middle class white people. Lawyers are starting to use this as an excuse for a mistrial as an all white jury is not a jury of their peers.

Jay, denial is un-becoming of you. While you repeatedly try to tell yourself (and everyone else with your un-ending fascination with this poll or that poll) that Obama and the Democrats and the progressive agenda are not in trouble, the truth remains; they are and it is. The story today about the Obama’s campaigns planned scorched earth tactic against Romney proves that Obama has nothing else to offer the American people in an election and that they are willing to resort to anything to try to keep “Obama the Incompetent” in power. I mean at this point what else have they got? It certainly his (or Pelosi or Reids) sterling record of achievements, is it? Demonization is now the last resort of a dying progressive movement in this country. People are just plain tired of the president and his cronies and want change. Real change, not the kind made for TV.
Obama is a loser. Many a liberal is now wishing that Hillary Clinton would have been the 08 nominee and the eventual president. And I have to say, I agree with them. She would have a been a stronger leader. I could almost have supported Hillary against McCain.

Trying to take a poll and a special election result and use it as a trend is not very bright. They are both single points in time, and largely manufactured by media hype.
Since special elections are done to satisfy special interests and not the interests of the electorate at large, I suspect that 4 or more seats will revert to Democrat control in Wisconsin, especially given it’s historically Democrat leanings. I doubt that there will be sufficient energy to recall Scott Walker if that happens, however.
As to the polls, they’ll fluctuate as they always do, depending on what Washington does in the next 6-9 months. Right now, though, this poll without any details behind it merely reflects the negative reporting of the Republicans and Tea Party-ers by the main stream media over the past few weeks in an attempt to prop up Hope & Downgrade’s ™ dismal performance.

Actually the subject was S&P credibility. They missed the mortgage based securities fraud and made a 2 trillion dollar error in the debt analysis. Their political conclusions may have been correct but political punditry is inappropriate in financial analysis, IMO.

And Merry Ole England is now burning because of its populations addiction to its socialistic and progressive social and economic policies. Once the bill came due for all their spending and there was no money left to pay for it, the spoiled populace turned violent. It is also happening here, although in a much more brutal fashion, in Wisconsin, Philadelphia and Chicago. The thugs here did it because they wanted violence and retribution against “the enemy”, as it were. They aren’t sophisticated enough (yet) to know that the milk cow is now officially dry. Yes, it is under-reported because of the American media’s wish that it will all just go away. “Flash Mob” is the moniker they currently go under here and what that particular term has come to mean is that it gives thugs cart-blanche to go out and and pillage, inflict personnal injury and to destroy. I congratulate the Mayor of Philadelphia for calling it like it is and taking action against these thugs. We need more men like him. The Mayor of Chicago, the illustrious Rham Emmanuel (Obama’s main man) did no such thing. The police in Great Britain can’t even carry firearms and the law abiding citizens certainly can’t. Now the law abiding citizens over there are blaming the police for not being able to protect them as they are not capable of protecting themselves. Over here, I wouldn’t suggest that the “Flash Mobbers” carry their corruption to the more, how should I say it, “well prepared” states in this country. They may be in for quite the surprise.

I know, right? Like, what do they think, the poor people take their food stamps & gubmint checks and stash them in secret interest-bearing accounts in the Caymans where they’ll forget to report the income? Hide it in the name of their third wife (a real beauty from Brazil)? Or take a “risk” and invest in high-margin endeavors that employ citizens of India to make things the rest of the world consumes, or in a derivative ponzi scheme that will benefit no one in the end except the crooks who stack the pyramid? Please…. even those committing fraud and abuse of the entitlement system are still spreading most of that money around in their communities, into the cash registers of businesses that hire people who consume and pay taxes.

“Do not confuse the political with the ability……….they are different. Moody’s and Fitch seem to agree….”
Excellent point. Since so many seem to want to compare the US economy with a personal economy (incorrectly)…it seems apt to point out a couple may disagree which bills to concentrate on, but that does not mean they cannot or will not meet their financial obligations.

I think what Jay’s alluding to is the bizarre popularity in religious America of Ayn Rand, an atheist whose entire system of thought flows from her atheism. What Jay may be getting at is that Rand based her philosophy of leaving individuals to the stern destiny of fending for themselves, with no sympathy for those who fail, on atheism while many Americans who warm to her ideas do so coming from a deeply religious place. It’s strange bedfellows, to say the least.

“Take those God-darn hoodies down, especially in the summer,” Mr. Nutter, the city’s third black mayor, said in an angry lecture aimed at black teens. “Pull your pants up and buy a belt ‘cause no one wants to see your underwear or the crack of your butt.”
“If you walk into somebody’s office with your hair uncombed and a pick in the back, and your shoes untied, and your pants half down, tattoos up and down your arms and on your neck, and you wonder why somebody won’t hire you? They don’t hire you ‘cause you look like you’re crazy,” the mayor said. “You have damaged your own race.”

If it were that damned important, Republicans could have organized recall elections for Democratic Senators as well. The mere fact that they failed miserably in that endeavor, along with the fact that they tried to run roadblock candidates in earlier elections really show that they don’t have a leg to stand on in the recall stuff. As it has been said, if the people of Wisconsin appreciates what they did for Walker, they don’t have to worry about losing their jobs, even if the Democrats ran Jesus himself against them.

What colour is Mark Duggan? Mark Duggan is the man who was shot dead by the police on Thursday in Tottenham. The Tottenham riots last night were sparked when people protested his death. This morning, I first heard of the riots on the radio, then on the television. I read articles on the internet. But oddly, no one would say what colour Mark Duggan was. No one would say the unsayable, that the rioters were, I suspect on the whole, black. Then, finally, Toby Young’s Telegraph blog post on the riots was published. Is Toby Young the only journalist out there who will dare say that these riots are about race?

Bosch, josef, Matti, etc–I think you guys might be missing the point. No one denies that money given to non-workers ends up recirculating through the system. No problem there. The problem is that these folks are not contributing any labor back into the system in exchange for the money they receive. Putting any moral or ethical arguments aside, the end result is less production in the system. As such, the system suffers by giving people money without demanding anything in return.
My personal opinion is that anyone receiving unemployment monies or welfare monies should be required to work for their stipends, even if it means picking up trash from along the highway. As a great man once said “Work will set you free.” (j/k josef)

In the grand scheme of things, the Wisconsin vote doesn’t mean much to the GOP. Even if they lost every election, that would not keep them from continuing their march to the right. In the end, we’re all the losers. This country can not and will not function as a far right paradise. Nor will it function as a far left paradise. Anybody who thinks otherwise would be much better off using their time to joust with windmills.

Bruno, if you’re doing it right, searching for a job IS a job.
Obviously I’m going with anecdotal experience, but I grew up seeing a lot of welfare/govt. assistance fraud. Not my family, of course, but many families around me. One of the most fraud-laden programs I remember was a jobs training program called CETA in the 1970s. As long as you could “prove” that you were training for some kind of job, you got a check. Immediately, a host of shady “trade schools” popped up which trained people for everything from HVAC work to body drumming. And lest you think I’m making up the body drumming part, a man actually sued the State when they threatened to cut off his funds for training for exactly that.
I still think requiring something back would be a win-win situation. It would definitely raise the motivation level of the job seekers.

Wisconsin’s Walker marches to the beat of the Koch brothers. He wants to widen the gap between the rich and the poor. Actually, when he ran for office he said nothing about dismantling organized labor. He is a puppet for the rich. But he has underestimated the Wisconsin motto of being for the working man. Indeed, Wisconsin is the birthplace of organized labor. He has overplayed his hand and his dreams of being Ronald Reagan II will begin evaporating today as all six Republican senators are washed away in the recall. Walker himself will vanish early next year when he himself is recalled. Let this be a lesson to the rich and powerful — you may have all the money, but average Joes still control the ballot box when you get them pissed off!

I won’t argue that that’s not the case. Or, at least smell like it’s official fragrance, “Patton” by Parfumologie.
The Military Times reports that the Army decided to make money off of its brand because a portion of proceeds will benefit the Veterans Administration and its services.
“Patton” is a woodsy blend of lavender, citrus, coconut, cedar, sage, tonka bean, bergamot, lime, and the ad copy says it will “elicit feelings of majestic woodlands and endless horizons.”
“Patton” the cologne joins the ranks of the Coast Guard’s “Riptide,” the Air Force’s “Stealth” and the Marines’ “Devil Dog” fragrances.

Obamacare is an upfront way to control costs of medical care that we currently give away anyway.
RT–I’ve discussed this issue in great depth, but the bottom line is that most of the high costs of health care are directly and indirectly due to an over-reliance on the third-party payment system. Insurance is supposed to be a hedge against catastrophic loss, not a clearinghouse for any and all payments into and out of the system. By increasing the participation of the insurance companies, costs are going up, not down.
If you want costs to go down, either institute full-blown socialistic medicine, or make changes to allow more free-market competition. ObamaCare does neither, and thus gives us the worst of both worlds.

I’ve used property rental companies. They want on the order of 50% of gross rentals. The owner is left with expenses, repairs, and the remaining 50%. The only way you break even is through depreciation and appreciation of the asset. Unless you’re a masochist, you’re better off to sell the damned place before you move.

I think the biggest advantage of using a management company is that you avoid the frustration of having to deal directly with the liars. I let my tenant stay probably 1 1/2 months longer than I should have, hoping beyond hope that some of his lies might be true. In your case, considering the bucks you’re pulling down, I would definitely go with a management company. I’m too cheap

You’ll see real price competition when pigs fly and float over your yard. The only ones big enough to confront the deliverers of medical services are the health insurance companies, which themselves are parasites.

Other than ERs, I think most doctors are open to price negotiation for cash-paying patients. I ran a cash practice for almost 20 years, and beat everyone in town with my fees. One thing hurting competition is the fact that the various state associations limit the number of med school graduates by design to keep their monopoly strong. Toss in the silent collusion on fee-setting, and there’s a lot of your problem.

The corporate takeover of the planet is not restricted to just terra firma..
Water has been privatized like other commodities. Huge companies like GE, Nestle, and Bechtel are buying. Several US cities that have sold their water rights including NYC (Suez), Chicago (Veolia), Pittsburgh (RWE/Thanes), Las Vegas (Suez), New Orleans (Veolia), Seattle (RWE/Thames), Riverside,CA (Veolia), Grand Canyon (RWE/Thames), Buffalo (RWE/Thames), Houston (Suez), Tampa (Veolia), Atlanta (Suez). As has Puerto Rico (Veolia).
Bill Campbell granted a 20 year contract to United Water (which is owned by Suez whose parent company is GE!) to handle the Atlanta water system in exchange for $6,900 and a nice vacation in Paris with his lover.

In this market, you have a choice between bleeding to death slowly via rental management companies or else selling the property and taking your bath now. The longer you hold onto a property, the more expensive it will become for you, and there’s no middle ground. For instance, you haven’t lived until you’ve been “assessed” $20,000 for repair of a property due to a hurricane or a tornado. And if you think that over time plumbing, a roof, or other fixtures won’t need to be replaced at your expense, you obviously know nothing about real property. Believe me, rental management companies won’t come up with the cash for such expenses. My advice is just to remove your pants and bend over.

black youths once again have set London alight.
Milwaukee has recently fallen victim to multiple race riots involving black youths brutally attacking white people at random. Opening day at the Wisconsin State Fair ended with nearly 300 black youths randomly attacking and robbing white people as they exited the fair. These attacks are clearly race related thus making it a hate crime, but prosecutorsare hesitant to label it as such for fear of backlash from the black community.

BTW, DIsgusted, your claim that management companies keep 50% of the rent collected simply isn’t true. That is unless someone took you for a ride. Some charge the first month’s rent to get a tenant in, then somewhere around 10% per month after that. despite my recent bad luck, I’ve done pretty well over the years. In my other rental house, I’ve only had 4 tenants in 16 years. losing only 4 months rent total. It can be done on your own.

Doesn’t make them irresponsible, transient or whatever else you can come up with. Why sit there when they can pay and leave?( parole officer in Cobb Co.) 2) I haven’t seen an intelligent president before this one, he is doing the same as all of the others. Nothing different. Dusty–Consider the source. This is the same man who denied that playing the race card is a staple of those on the Left. Direct quotes from Obama campaign workers, well-known liberal commentators, and liberal ex-Presidents did little to sway his foregone conclusions. Are there “some” racists on the Right?? Philadelphia mayor talks tough to black teenagers after ‘flash mobs’</b.
PHILADELPHIA — Mayor Michael A. Nutter, telling marauding black youths “you have damaged your own race,” imposed a tougher curfew Monday in response to the latest “flash mob” — spontaneous groups of teens who attack people at random on the streets of the city’s tourist and fashionable shopping districts.

As for the general question of which races perpetuate the most violence, it’s no secret that blacks commit a disproportionate share if one is to base that on crime statistics. Selective enforcement?? I can’t answer that, but murder statistics are definitely skewed in one direction. I would like to believe that prosecution for murder is unbiased, whereas prosecution for assault might be. The bottom line is that every stereotype has a kernel of truth to it. I know that this touches a deep nerve in Brother Brosephus, since the actions of a few cast aspersions on the many unfairly. But, in the end, facts are facts.

Who said anything about a “majority,” Dusty asks?
Well, Dusty did, for one. I quote: “One “civilized” does not a majority make nor a genre.”
And here we have Scout trying to claim comparisons between Wisconsin and London. Tell us, Scout: What conclusions do you wish us to draw from these alleged comparisons? Is there some theme you claim to see here? Please, come out and state it explicitly.
We also have Glenn Beck, telling President Obama “You encouraged what happened in Wisconsin, you encouraged the Arab Spring. Why aren’t you talking about the great energy-saving programs that are going on now at, like, furniture stores in London?”
Really, the president encouraged what happened in Wisconsin? Do tell, sir, do tell.
At conunderground.com, we have a headline reading “Organized Black Mobs Burn London and Rob White Londoners.”
At redrobinchronicles.com, we have this lovely little bit of verbiage:
“Is this what you want for your children, White man? Your western nations, built with so much sacrifice and toil, to be put to the torch by hordes of savage, sociopathic simians and defective dune-coons? Do you honestly think your Rush Limpdickian propositional nationhood nonsense will turn these beasts into anything remotely civilized and human?
It’s time a fire begins burning in our hearts instead of our cities. A raging weltanschaung of White racialism.”
At conservativetimes.org we have this:
“Violent black flash mobs have become endemic to the United States in the past year. Starting with the “Beat Whitey Night” at the Iowa State Fair, there have been hundreds of violent black flash mobs across the United States, which have shut down parts of Chicago and Philadelphia. Most recently, at the Wisconsin State Fair, large groups of blacks viciously targeted whites. In most cases, the US media have suppressed information on the mobs, refusing to report that they’re black mobs (often violently targeting whites), and misleadingly have reported that the mobs are “youth mobs.”
As many of America’s worst tendencies have been exported to Europe and the UK, so too has the black mob organized by social media, as evidenced by the race riot in London last night.”
At incogman.net, out of Southern California, we have this:
“AFRO-CARRIBEANS,” OR what I sometimes call Afreakin’ Apes, have been looting and burning London for 4 consecutive days and nights now. They are even reported to be going into restaurants and homes to violently snatch off the rings and watches off decent, law-abiding White people, now sick and tired of all the Jew multicult crap.

(Reuters) – Arkansans shopped until they dropped on Saturday, braving temperatures deep into the triple-digits to take advantage of the state’s first sales tax holiday weekend.
“I have never seen anything like this,” said Clancy Graham, a manager at Little Rock’s RK Collections Boutique, an independently owned store. “If we could do this three times a year, it would be amazing. It has done crazy good stuff for our business.”

Hmmm. The State (and feds) will still collect taxes from the businesses profits and the employees payroll and the trucking companies, and on and on. Hmmm. Putting more money in the pockets of consumers may not be a bad idea. They might actually spend it on goods and services. Hmmm.

Bruno, I have noted correctly that liberals have been at the forefront of civil rights. From the very beginning to this day.
I have noted correctly that arch conservatives fought viciously to preclude them. Even murdering those said liberals.
Those are the facts and they are incontrovertible.
I also believe that virtually none of today’s arch-conservatives would no more get on that bus with the Freedom Riders today than they did then.
What next?
Those racist signs at tea party gatherings were liberal plants?

Whoops–Gotta stop and throw the BS flag on AmVet. Do a little reading on the Civil Rights Movement of the late 1950s and early 1960s when most of the significant legislation was passed, and you’ll find Republicans at every turn passing, implementing, and enforcing civil rights, with Democrats (ok, Southern Democrats) doing most of the resisting. I hope I don’t have to back up this well-known fact with links, because I’m tired and have to go. I’ll leave that for your homework assignment, Brother Am.
And BTW, I’ll take your word for it when you say you purposefully put your poll up to support a position that there are likely an equal number of racists in both the liberal and conservative camps, even though that belies every statement you have made here on the blog that the conservatives are the racists. Jay,
I saw your 11:03 post and was dismayed at your posting of the website incogman.net as a “conservative” site. Balogney! This was nothing short of a hate site that few if any of the cons on here have ever heard of. And you try to pass off this hate site as a conservative site? Shameful and blatantly misleading on your part.
Now about all these charges of racism and black racial attacks. Some of it is true, some isn’t. In regards to England from what I can tell it started in the black neighborhoods but then it spread and there are certainly a lot of white as well as black faces that I see in all that looting. In those riots it seems we have a bunch of worthless thugs of both races.
Now about the Wisconsin state fair, the Iowa state fair last year, NY city, and especially Philly and Chicago, and other cities to a lesser extent like Greensboro, NC and the flash mob here in Atlanta that attacked 2 Delta employees on the marta. Its somewhat disturbing that there is virtually no national media coverage of the what is a documented and growing trend of mobs of black youth singling out and attacking individual whites. Why? Why are we not having a national dialogue on this subject.
You can darn well bet that if it was white gangs singling out and attacking and beating individual blacks that it would be plastered all over the tv and all we would hear is how racist and evil white America is. I want to know why there is virtually no coverage of this phenomenon and why black leaders except for the Philly mayor are largely silent on this issue.
And I’ld like to know why neither Cynthia nor yourself nor anybody else to my knowledge at the AJC is writing about a disturbing trend that apparently the liberal national media wants to sweep under the rug.
I suspect part of the reason liberals don’t want a dialogue on what can only be classified as hate crimes is that liberals, in their benign racism, do not want to hold people equally accountable for crime. In your own peculiar brand of paternalistic racism you don’t think we should hold minorities equally responsible for hate crimes or for violent crime period regardless of intent.
Secondly I think you guys are scared of the topic because of the obvious question about 2nd amendment rights. I notice that these flash mob attacks are taking place in cities which unless I’m incorrect tend to have tough anti gun local ordinances- NY, Chicago, Philly, and perhaps Milwaukee although I really don’t know. I suspect that if people could arm themselves with concealed weapons in these cities that perhaps these mobs wouldn’t be so brazenly attacking their victims. But I doubt you guys want to go into the 2nd amendment debate. One thing is for sure. I’ll bet there are a lot of shop owners in England right about now that wish they had the same 2nd amendment rights that we do.

And now to the health care debate and some comments Bruno made.
“Insurance is supposed to be a hedge against catastrophic loss, not a clearinghouse for any and all payments into and out of the system. By increasing the participation of the insurance companies, costs are going up, not down.”- Bruno
Absolutely. As an insurance agent I’m saying get the insurance companies the hell out of the everyday health care business. Health insurance should go back to what it used to be- insurance against unexpected and catastrophic events like cancer, heart attack, etc. The entire idea of insurance is to pay for unexpected and catastrophic events- not everyday health manintenance. It shouldn’t be in the business of paying for everyday crap like doc visits, small lab and diagnostics tests, etc. You don’t ask your car insurance to pay for new tires, oil changes, etc or for your homeowners insurance to pay for pressure washing or replacing an old roof or painting or a new air conditioner. So why do you expect your health insurance to pay for routine medical checkups and bills?
2 other things that Bruno also echoed. First of all a lot of docs have taken and will take cash and there is a growing trend locally where docs now will charge a family rate of $50 a month and unlimited $15 copay visits for a family plan and $25 a month and unlimited $15 copays for individuals- much cheaper than a health insurance plan that includes doc visits. My girlfriend pays her doc $50 cash for visits since she is not covered for regular doc visits. If people would get off their lazy arses and shop for medical services the same way they clip coupons for a box of macaroni or shop for deals on tires or big screens or laptops or anything else then they would be surprised how much money they could save.
And yes. The docs limit the numbers of docs admitted to medical school and yes. They absolutely do collude on price fixing. My dad is in the orthodontistry business in Alabama and he has firsthand knowledge from an orthodontist that in a conference of local orthodontists they started openly discussing what they charge for services which is blatantly against the law and nothing more than price collusion.
And in regards to govt getting its hands all over Obamacare didn’t the CBO just come out a couple of times and say Obamacare is going to cost billion dollars more than originally forecasted?
And I saw in the news today a new mandate that now health insurance must pay for birth control and other things for women. Why not just let the women who want birth control for themselves pay for it? So now everybody is going to have to pay higher insurance premiums to pay for something that the users of the service themselves should be paying for. What a dang mess. What kind of a fool actually thinks the govt will make health insurance cheaper for everyone?

Maybe he’ll take a look at the survey that AmVet put up showing that racial attitudes among libs/cons, Dems/Repubs are virtually identical across the board. In Wisconsin, Kathy Nicholas, the county court clerk in the District 8 – Waukeshaw County – has said that election results will be held up for “at least an hour”, between Sandy Pasch (D) and Alberta Darling (R), who supports ending Medicare and who is close to governor Scott Walker. Pasch has been ahead. If Pasch were to win, Democrats would have their needed 3 Democrats needed to overturn some of the newly established laws by Republicans against workers’ bargaining rights.
This type of hold up of vote results has happened before by Kathy Nicholas in District 8 and each time – doing so – has helped Republicans. The validity of this process in District 8 needs to be looked into seriously. Something seems unusual, to say the least. That district has had the same voting machines as all the other districts in the state, according to commentators.
————————————-
About racism and conservatives. From my personal experience growing up in Georgia, most white people did not want to integrate the society before the Civil Rights legislation. Most who did not want to integrate the society would never have self-professed to being racists, but they had “elements” of racism in their psyches that were obvious to me because they did not want to swim in the same pools with black people, or share the same bathrooms or water fountains with them, among many other views they expressed which, to me, showed elements of racism.
The majority of Georgians for at least a century have been conservatives whether they called themselves Democrats or Republicans. I can understand, Jay’s comment that most racists are conservative (in answering a blogger’s question), although – as he also said – the majority of conservatives are not racists. He further said that those African-Americans who are racists are not conservatives. His comments were balanced, in my opinion, and consistent with what I have experienced.

Don’t forget,
I understand that orthodontists aren’t exactly medical doctors. My point though is that similar to medical doctors the schools to train them keep the numbers artificially low in order to keep out competition and limit the number of doctors to keep salaries high. And I do know that these orthodontists were openly discussing what fees they charge. The orthodontist who was telling my dad the story chimed in and said what they were doing was illegal. They ignored him and he simply got up and left. I seriously doubt the man was lying. What purpose would he have in lying. And I seriously doubt that medical doctors regularly collude but it wouldn’t surprise me if they occasionally just kinda mentioned what they charged in casual conversations and get togethers. I would think its unrealistic to say that this never, ever happens.

The bottom line, DF, is that what passes for “health care” in our country is pretty much a crock of $hit. We’re pretty much a nation of drug addicts, all at a huge price to both our pocketbooks and our well-being. Something like every 1 in 5 commercials on TV are pushing drugs. Got a headache?? take a pill. Stomach ache?? Take a pill. Depressed?? Take a pill. ED?? Take a pill. Too many side effects from taking all these pills?? Take even more pills to counteract the side effects. Actually get off you fat, lazy ass and get healthy so that you don’t “need” all these pills?? Not a chance in hell. And don’t even get me started about all the unnecessary surgeries.
And you wonder why I want no part of it all?? But Obama and the Dems, in their infinite wisdom, decided that a condition for living in this country is now to force people like myself to subsidize the BS. So, excuse me for being a little grouchy when the topic comes up.

To the left it’s about breaking unions. I’ve heard they spent as much on these recalls as they spent on the governor’s race. I haven’t been this embarrassed for Winebago County since Kerry beat Bush 51-49. The demographics are interesting as it’s a red town with a giant blue bullseye surrounding the college.

Sadly, most people don’t have either the courage or the raw intelligence to be their own doctors. Though I occasionally use MDs as a resource for knowledge, I make all my own health care decisions. So far, I’m doing well. 3 sick days in nearly 40 years in the workforce, less than $1000 dollars in lifetime medical expenses.

Bingo, TD. But, unfortunately, the pill-pushers and drug companies don’t make any money when people decide to get healthy on their own. Sadly, few people seem to have the willpower to take matters into their own hands, however. We’ve become a notion of obese lamers. MDs certainly have their place, but not the place that they’ve claimed in most people’s lives.

Thulsa, I’d imagine some docs do “collude” but I don’t believe it’s rampant. The AMA does make recommendations/lobby for the number of medical school positions but they don’t decide. But the real point I’d like to make is that doc pay, at least for primary care and I think in general has not risen more than the inflation rate for something like 23 of the last 25 years. I’m not complaining but doc pay is not the source of the high inflation in healthcare. Docs who do procedures have done the best and the number of procedures has risen as well. Probably the lowest paying field is pediatrics because their patients usually don’t have a lot of health problems and bear in mind that most docs finish med school with 100 to 150 thousand in debt, have no income for those four years and will spend at least 3 years in residency at a pay rate in the 40+ thousand range. It’s a pretty sizeable investment/risk.

Bruno, you’re totally right about the drug commercials. They try to put pressure on docs to prescribe their meds by marketing to their patient. There’s one med that markets to a certain patient population even though studies have shown a higer mortality in that type of patient on that type of med. There are a few instances where you would use it but only where the alternative is worse. And some docs don’t keep up with the literature and may not know there’s a danger. They should but don’t.
But the one that really gets me is the pain meds. I read in JAMA a couple months ago that accidental pain med overdose is now the second highest cause of death behind only auto accidents.
Can’t say I see many unnecessary surgeries but I’m only in the hospital and don’t see the outpatient surgeries.

Firing the tax cheat Geithner should be worth another, say, 200 point jump on the Dow.
Appoint someone that can figure out Turbo Tax should be pretty much neutral, since even the average democrat (that actually pays taxes, that is) can pretty much figure it out.
Now for a real hope and change maneuver, Obama could announce he is in favor of scrapping the current tax code completely, going to a flat tax, plus as a concession, the Repugs could go along with a “tax the rich” luxury tax on all items purchased that value over $250K, except for homes, boats, and those evil corporate jets.
Let’s be fair…. let’s be inclusive… let’s include that @50% of all working Americans that currently pay no income taxes into paying ‘their fair share’ (as opposed to NO share at all).
AND (drum roll please), let us tell Congress to pass a balanced budget amendment; that should be worth more than what the Dow has lost in the last two weeks.

Oh, and another reason people despise Congress (from 2009) for making the kind of arrogant and reckless decisions that they do:
WASHINGTON — Congress plans to spend $550 million to buy eight jets, a substantial upgrade to the fleet used by federal officials at a time when lawmakers have criticized the use of corporate jets by companies receiving taxpayer funds.
The purchases will help accommodate growing travel demand by congressional officials. The planes augment a fleet of about two dozen passenger jets maintained by the Air Force for lawmakers, administration officials and military chiefs to fly on government trips in the U.S. and abroad.
The congressional shopping list goes beyond what the Air Force had initially requested as part of its annual appropriations.
Somebody ought to have told Obozo’s teleprompter to keep his yap shut before railing against the ‘evil corporate jet owners’, don’t you think? What an ignorant sap. This is what you get when you scrape the bottom of the jet fuel barrel, I suppose.

A month before retiring as Atlanta’s schools superintendent, Beverly Hall finally acknowledged this week that educators cheated to help students pass state-mandated achievement tests. And, she said, the findings of a criminal investigation into the matter will be “alarming.”
Special Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Beverly Hall shown in a videotaped farewell address where she acknowledges for the first time that school employees cheated on the CRCT in 2009.
In a videotaped farewell address to district employees, Hall abandoned her long-standing denial of significant cheating on the Criterion-Referenced Competency Test in 2009.
“It’s become increasingly clear over the last year that a segment of our staff chose to violate the trust that was placed in them,” Hall said on the video.
One can only presume that the ‘trust’ she refers to is the trust that no one would out them for cheating. Honor, trust, and hope and change are terms that are unrecognized by cheaters, liars and thieves.

everything you posted is accurate, but you forgot to add that there will always be that 10-20 percent or so of voters we politely lump in with and call “independents” but who more accurately are low-information types who find politics either icky and gross, or just too much work to follow, but who feel they ought to go vote every now and then–kinda like eating your vegetables even though you hate eating vegetables.
Those people are fairly bipolar in their ideologies. Like it or not, people no candidate can ignore that group in a general election; it’s why so much time is spent honing an image and marketing that image, rather than focusing (as people claim to want) on issues and policies.

wishing random parents were “better” is like wishing the sky was a more appealing shade of pink. If poor parenting is the issue for whatever reason (including, of course, the difficulties of good parenting under poverty conditions), the appropriate response is…what? Yell at the parents? Lament that they’re bad? Kids aren’t responsible for their parents, and there aren’t obvious policy mechanisms for ensuring good parenting. Though there are some obvious ones for making it easier to be a good parent.

Congratulations Wisconsin!
Way to go!
The great orange satan points out that:
“But let me just say, if tonight was a loss, I hope we have many more such “losses” in 2012.
We took the fight into red territory, and took two seats. What was a safe 19-14 GOP advantage is now a narrow 17-16. If we had those numbers going into 2011, the anti-labor bill would never have passed—one GOPer voted with the Democrats (and hey, Sen. Dale Schultz, the water is mighty fine on our side of the aisle!)……..
Beyond Wisconsin, if we can enjoy a similar “loss rate” in Republican-held districts (picking up 33 percent of them), Speaker Nancy Pelosi will have a huge majority in 2013. We had a message that resonated with large numbers of working people in overwhelmingly white working-class districts that shifted hard against Democrats in 2010. GOP overreach is winning them back for us. Just think, before today, only 13 state legislators had been recalled in the entire history of this nation.”

I’m not sure what Max is trying to say about polls.
I wasn’t either.
Jay, on a broader note, you seem to enrage conservatives whenever you cite polls; there had to have been at least a dozen variations of “this poll is bogus!!!” — which I found curious since, for whatever reason, you’d neglected to provide a link to the CNN cross-tabs and such, so presumably nobody complaining about the poll in your post knew what its MoE was, what the sample demographics were, etc., unless they’d bothered to google them themselves.

As long as people like the Kochs end up paying more to buy those seats than it would have cost them to pay their taxes, it’s a good start. Perhaps recall elections will become part of the norm. It might be just the sort of economic boost we need. There’s lots of money flowing during elections.

Jay, on a broader note, you seem to enrage conservatives whenever you cite polls
Well, stands, here’s one poll that you might want to take a look at. It involves racial attitudes among liberals/conservatives and Democrats/Republicans. The popular myth over on the Left has been that most racists are conservatives or Republicans, as reflected by the constant playing of the race card, as Taxpayer did right out of the gate this morning . Jay came right out last night and said it plain as day. Unfortunately, the poll, put up by AmVet, didn’t support the claim.

In the last district to report in Wisconsin last evening, District 8, in which hold ups have occurred before (to Republican advantage), Republican Alberta Darling won over Democrat Sandy Pasch, who had been leading, until the end of the count. (I am not accusing, just reporting here.)
A couple of facts I would like to tell readers:
(1) Incumbent Alberta Darling, a friend of Gov. Scott Walker, in campaigning, said that there had been no cuts to education in Wisconsin, whereas – in fact – 1 billion dollars have been cut to public education. (time line not given) (MSNBC, Ed Schultz)
(2) Eight millions dollars was poured into Darling’s District 8, alone, in this election to re-elect her.(MSNBC)
In my opinion, to cut a billion from education is an example of extreme, ideology based politics.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/how-rep-austin-scott-betrayed-his-tea-party-roots/2011/08/09/gIQAoKnQ5I_story.html?hpid=z2
Rep. Austin Scott of Georgia, a Tea Party favorite and president of the House Republicans’ freshman class, got off to a slow start as a legislator but finally introduced his first bill last week.
His draftsmanship should please the people who chant “read the bill” at political rallies, because H.R. 2774 is only one sentence long. In its entirety: “Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Legal Services Corporation Act is repealed.”
[...]
H.R. 2774 would end the government practice, dating to the Nixon administration, of providing legal assistance to low-income people pursuing equal justice under the law: women seeking protective orders against abusive partners, homeowners fighting foreclosure or predatory lending, and similar civil actions.
“We are at a point where Congress must look at programs and ask, ‘Is this absolutely necessary?’ ” Austin said in a statement when I asked for elaboration. Noting that state and local governments, bar associations and pro bono lawyers help to subsidize legal aid, he argued that “eliminating federal funding for the LSC will not eliminate free legal aid for the poor. This bill simply takes this duplicative and unnecessary program off the federal taxpayers’ dole.”
Still, even a number of Republicans see value in Legal Services. Though House Republicans have proposed a 26 percent cut in Legal Services’ current budget of $379 million, 68 of them joined Democrats in defeating an attempt this year to defund Legal Services.

I see that David Scott – D, Ga, has an early start on the field in playing the race card, for not only the recent debt debate, but also hearkening back to the 2008 presidential election, and just against any Obama thought whatsoever.
To say he leaps out of the pack and is ahead by a nose might be construed the wrong way, so I will not say it. Instead, I will resort to the time-proven adage (proven by the LEFT, that is) that when logic, reasoning and facts fail to win a discussion, just toss your head back self righteously and call your opposition racists.

Brosephus, here’s the gist of Kyle’s column:
The most striking thing about the rioters is how little they care for their own communities. You don’t have to be a right-winger with helmet hair and a niggling discomfort with black or chavvy yoof (I am the opposite of that) to recognise that this violence is not political, just criminal. It is entertaining to watch the political contortions of commentators who claim the riots are an uprising against the evils of capitalism, as they struggle to explain why the targets have been Foot Locker sports shops and why the only “gains” made by the rioters have been to get a new pair of trainers [tennis shoes] or an Apple laptop.
I can’t find much fault with that analysis, can you?? Ditto for the Rodney King riots so many moons ago. I don’t think that stealing a TV is a valid form of protest. But what would I, a racist conservative, know??

Those are not Kyle’s words… I was referring to his headline. Those riots have nothing to do with welfare. As y’all say Bookman should know better, so should Kyle.

Brosephus–I’m sorry if I didn’t acknowledge your post last night, but your point was well-taken. As far as “fellow conservatives” here pinning the whole London riot on black kids, I’ve only seen it referenced a few times. There’s one particular poster, a “conservative” who can’t seem to mention London riots without throwing Blacks in there somewhere. It’s wrong to try to pin something on an entire group when there’s no proof. It’s completely wrong to continue to do so after video proof disproving it has been shown to the world.
You know I’m not one to take sides in most cases, but when you’re gonna try to push stereotypes just to further your agenda, I have no problem taking a side opposite that view. There’s the mobs in Wisconsin which I’m guessing you’re referring to. It could have been racial, or it could have been that the group of Blacks were jumping on Whites because they appeared the most afraid of them. You didn’t mention the White kids in MS who ran over the Black guy after stomping the crap out of him. In that instance, they were looking to mess with somebody Black.
All that stuff’s wrong, regardless of what group instigates it. This country was founded on violence, and it appears to only respond to and act out in violence. Until we change that part of us, things will never change.

Kind of curious to see Bruno citing my friend Kyle this morning, given that last night he was tooting his own horn so hard at Kyle’s expense:
“I think the AJC made a big mistake by hiring Kyle Wingfield as its conservative mouthpiece when ol’ Bruno was available. I’m guessing the Bruno Blog would put up numbers far in excess of Jay’s Blog, even if primarily consisting of hot-air liberals whose deep, malicious, non-factually based biases were exposed at every turn by little old moi. I notice that our high-school debate champ, Joe Mama, high-tailed it out of here after he got a taste of Bruno. Granny Godzilla, like so many hot air Libs, was reduced to cheap insults after she got her dentures handed to her tonight. As for Jay, I guess he can’t leave since it’s his blog, but I think he’s going to have a hard time living this night down now that his own ugly prejudices have bubbled to the surface.”
Much as I hate diverting Bruno from his self-love and adoration as he stares into the mirror at the handsomest, smartest, most bestest arguer on the planet, let’s address the poll that he cites, because it tells us nothing about the question at issue.
As I stated repeatedly last night, I do not believe most conservatives are racist. I do, however, believe that most racists are conservative. To be useful in addressing that question, we would need a poll of acknowledged racists, asking them whether they thought of themselves as conservative or liberal, and how they voted. To my knowledge, no such poll exists.
A poll of racial attitudes among liberals and conservatives tells us about liberals and conservatives. It tells us nothing about racists.
