Well allrighty then. We actually have a respectful dialogue between you and me.
Rush Limbaugh is entertainment and I rarely get to listen to him sometimes I don’t hear his program for several weeks and then sometimes I will listen to it for a half hour or so while driving to an afternoon appt. But while he is entertainment the stats and figures he cites are often from a govt source or a think tank. He has his opinions which don’t mean spit but they do mean something when they are backed up by citable, empirical data from reputable sources.
As for the report that we go back to levels in 1961 that is impossible for one thing. After WW2 we were the world’s lone standing economic superpower. The industrialized western European countries and east Asia- Japan and industrial China(mainly Manchuria) were decimated and we literally had a 20 year advantage over these rebuilding nations in terms of infrastructure and economic performance due to their shattered economics. Different era and time.
Today we are in an ever smaller world and are fighting tooth and nail with nations like Indian and China that have human as well as labor capital vastly cheaper than us. We no longer hold the competitive advantage and multinational corporations are leaving the U.S and going overseas due to increased regulation, obscenely high taxation rates- 2nd highest in the world, and economic uncertainty. Corporations and small businesses are the golden goose and through tax and regulatory policies we are trying to strangle that golden goose.
The richest Americans may be paying their lowest rates but the top 1 % still pay 38% of all taxes and the top 10% pay something like 60% of all taxes. How much is enough Mick? Nearly half of American is no longer paying federal income taxes other than FICA. Is that fair that half the people in the whole country aren’t paying for anything? Everybody should have some skin in the game. Everyone.

Gotta love the lamestream media. How many times have you read or heard “Senate REJECTS Republican plan”?
The Senate hasn’t rejected anything! In fact, they’ve tabled both measures sent to them from the House. Typical gutless Democrat ploy to keep a backup plan in place if other plans fail, but don’t really do anything to further a plan of your own, all the while making it seem like you’ve taken a stand on some legislation, which you haven’t.
And all the myrmidons on the left and in the press can only focus on alleged GOP intransigence, when they’re the only ones fulfilling their Constitutional duty.

Now they will end up handing more power over to the executive branch via the 14th or else Obama can leave the power in the hands of Congress and watch them take the heat as social security benefits and veteran’s benefits go unpaid and thousands and thousands of federal employees get furloughed, etc. Hey! What folks need to understand is that the US is in a stagnant or declining wage base. Asia/India is in a hyper wage inflation era. With quality of service and product as well as time differential (12-14 hours on the service sector) and 2-3 weeks on physical goods in shipping the US should have a re emerging manufacturing base.
As to your last paragraph- it is the tax “abortion” issue. Tax the “rich” 5% more, ensure that all folks employed pay some share of income tax- not just payroll tax that is refunded through refundable credits- and simplify the corporate tax specifically to ensure corporations that are indeed making $ (cash) pay tax.

Obama and Reid have failed to put together any compromise plan over the last several days, so now Harry is discovering that his hastily crafted plan doesn’t have sufficient votes in the Senate. Reid was crying about a Republican filibuster and McConnell called his bluff last night by suggesting that Reid should have a simple majority vote on his bill. Harry backed off like an Iraqi tank because his bill didn’t have the votes. The Democrats are going to have to put their cards face up pretty soon, however, it doesn’t look like they have many to play.

Nope, it’s a consequence. A thermostat reads the outside conditions, THEN it reacts and sends a signal to the heating/cooling equipment. THAT is Paul’s point. A thermometer ONLY reads the outside conditions, it does nothing else.
Personally though, I would amend Paul’s original comparison. I don’t think some people are like thermometers at all. I think we’re all thermostats. Some are set to cool down when outside conditions get “hot”, others are set to get even hotter when outside conditions are “hot”.

You likely remember this example, but for the benefit of those who came after, I’d mentioned an excerpt of a book I’d read. Guy’s at a bar with a friend, another guy becomes quite belligerent, insults the guy, his mother, his conditions of birth, just about everything about him in a quite vile way. Guy doesn’t react, finishes his drink and says to his friend “let’s go.” Friend says “aren’t you going to do anything after all that stuff he said about you?” Guy said “why should I give so much power over me to someone I don’t know whose opinion I don’t value? “

A thermostat isn’t of much use at all without the temperature feedback from the thermometer. You might as well mount an on-off switch and let the occupant use his or her built-in thermometer to decide when to flip the switch. Of course neither device is of much use without a heater or air conditioner, etc., incorporated as part of the system as well as an occupied building and an energy source… such is civilized life in our little part of the world.

I suppose it’s like those who say some expressions or words are so inflammatory that a person is not held liable for how he reacts. I believe that’s even provided for in law. Are we broke yet? I got half a notion to go out and blow every penny I got, seeing as how the whole country will go bust early next week.
I see the librul Democrats are still shucking and jiving for the welfare bums, the lazy, and the geezers, not to mention Those People. We won’t never get a balanced budget if we keep shoveling money to these loosers.
When do we get to vote on the Balanced Budget Amenment? There’s all this talk on Fox News but nobody ever says anything about the important stuff like that. It’s always about how one house passes something and the other votes it down like one of Those People was running for homecoming queen in Forsyth County.
Anyhow, me and my buddy Jim Earl and my other buddy Joe Bill are meeting over at Countryland Golf Club to play a round of golf. Sam the greenskeeper got us free passes so we can load up the cooler and enjoy ourselfs. One of you needs to let me know when we’re suppose to be flat busted. Yes, it was the “Balanced Budget Amendment” that showed me the House Republicans weren’t serious and were only trying to placate the Tea Party who have absolutely no clue about government. The Speaker of the House should be ashamed of himself and his Party…but as Mr. Gump said, “Stupid is as stupid does”.

Does it really matter??
If/when it ever gets voted on, if the folks want it….so be it. I don’t really have a problem with a BBA…..it will have an emergency clause just like Pay-Go…….which hasn’t been used since passage…………..

Making good on our commitment to pay back with interest that which we borrowed is what this stalemate is about. The Republicans continue to try and make it about throwing the sick and elderly under the bus in order to give the hedge fund managers more tax cuts, amongst other equally childish and irresponsible things. It ain’t gonna happen. Regardless, hold that line, Republicans.

From what I’ve read, taking out the war ’savings’ – the Reid plan has about the same cuts. Seems to me the real issue is Dems want a high enough debt ceiling increase to last thru the election while Reps want to go thru this again right before the election.
And as I’ve said before, I do not think either one of them goes far enough with cuts.

If that isn’t a copy and paste talking point……….
With the prospects of a long term deal dead, it is ONLY about a date………..before or after the campaign cycle……….that isn’t too hard to figure out………and both sides are playing the game.

Two more days of political theater until they pass a clean debt limit bill or use the Constitution .
The tea party deserved to be heard by the gop because they showed up, started a movement to cut spending and voted.
They were heard and they did change the spending conversation but was needed when w blew the surplus.
Clinton proved we do not need a balance the budget amendment.
He did it without one and one of our greatest Presidents.

The balanced budget amendment seemed to me one of those things that fits the criteria for Rep criticism of Dem proposals – too iffy, too far out in the future, too uncertain.
Guy named Mark Davis, has the highest rated local talk show in Texas on WBAP, is quite conservative (well, he wouldn’t be a lib in Texas and have the highest rated talk show) who’s discussed at length about reservations conservatives should have with a BBA.

Wars started with Democrat presidents in office, WW1year, WW2, Korea, Viet Nam, Bosnia, and Libya. Worst economy presidents, Roosevelt, Carter, Obama. Highest unemployment rats, Roosevelt, Carter, Obama. Highest gasoine price Obama. Highest deficit borrwing, Democrat Congress starting any year you want. Highest number of home foreclosures, Obama. Highest food prices, Obama. Democrat passing most regulations harming business and creating business failures and unemployment. Name an economic item and the Democrats have messed it up worse than any Republican.

When a President puts two wars and tax cuts for the wealthy on the credit card is when a tea party was needed. They marched lock step with w and did not care until they lost.
We needed a balance the budget amendment before w put us in this position but it probably needs to be done to stop the next w.
