I’m afraid so.

I’m not one for sharing pain but I really have no say in this.

He just had to do a backpedal. Was asked about NY’s gay marriage law and he said ‘it’s in NY, fine with me” and con groups went ballistic. He had to repeat about his view of states doing what they want but had to put in some pablum for the con groups. At least he’s consistent on one point.

But I guess if he does run he won’t be able to say a criticism of Romney’s health care in Mass, right?

I was hoping Doomed Janus was on today so that I could heckle him a bit. Since I think I’ve figured out who he is, and where he lives….

Debbiedoright,

I had a couple of appointments this morning but I’m here now. So if heckling is what interests you then be my guest and heckle away. I would prefer discourse rather than degenerating into the gutter but I’ll leave that choice clearly in your court.

So you think you’ve figured out who I am and where I live? Its pretty disturbing that I occupy so much of your mind and thoughts that you are going to lengths to try and figure out who I am and where I live. There are definitely some cyber stalkers on here but you definitely sound like a real life stalker and hence the somewhat veiled threat that you “know where I live…..”. If you have an oconee county address then you’ve got me pegged. Doesn’t bother me though since I’m locked and loaded if a real life stalker shows up at my door.

If I get under your skin so badly in our encounters then you really need to look inward and ask why you allow me to rent space inside of your head. Its just a blog and its not healthy to let someone mentally own you like that to the point of wanting to find their identity and home. Even the liberals on here would agree that that is warped.

Its probably healthier for you that you avoid me completely but if you do choose to engage then do so in a civil manner and I will kindly return the favor. No need for the 2 of us to degenerate into namecallling and gutter blogging. Can we at least agree on that?

Bruno,

BTW I read your 12:04 post regarding the answer and all of those stuff on the axises came back to me. Pretty simply actually but also pretty easy to forget. The explanation in laymen’s terms was really good. I’m surprised you had the restraint you had with mr. fantastical who lobbed more personal assaults on you and Harvey Mudd than Carter has peanuts.

As far as relativity goes I understand that pretty well and saw a good special on it from discovery that explained it well in laymen’s terms. If I’m going 80 and someone is going 83 and passing me then even though they are going 83mph it seems to me they are going at a much slower rate because its all relative as he passes me going only 3 mph faster.

Also I did not know this till a year or so ago but mathemeticians have to calculate time for the satellites orbiting above earth because time up there is different. Its off by a fraction of a second because as Einstein pointed out time and space are warped. This may be simple knowledge to you but to me and others on here its interesting little tidbits like that that make science and math interesting on a conceptual basis.

Anyway did you ever provide the full answer or are you waiting on Mr. Fantastical to solve it?

Here’s what a balanced-budget amendment would mean to the people who live in reality:

Next time a hurricane, earthquake, tsunami, or flood destroy an entire American city and displace tens or hundreds of thousands of citizens, the government has a limited dollar amount with which to help, and cannot borrow another penny to help the survival of people who were paying taxes a week before, but may never be fortunate enough to pay taxes again. Next time some azzwipes attack our citizens and destroy a bunch of office buildings and airplanes in the name of their religion or whatever, the government will have a limited dollar amount with which to respond and fight our enemies, and when it runs out, will either have to equip our soldiers with WHITE SURRENDER FLAGS or just force them to fight without pay and without weapons.

That’s the reality, so it’s completely understandable if y’all want to entertain the fantasy.

Talking Head: Your points are incorrect. Raising minimum wage, extending unemployment benefits during a recession and aftermath, and “universal” health care are all GOOD things. Also, none of those things by themselves cause joblessness or the other negative effects you said they did.

Health care costs, for instance, are going up anyway. The health care insurance companies still, as a free market, can set their prices any way they want. And they can TELL you that it’s all because of a law that hasn’t been fully implemented yet. It’s nonsense.

Unemployment benefits are a reaction to joblessness, not a cause. There is a limit to them, and people in this economy do not immediately get a job once their benefits are over because, as cons seem to think, they aren’t looking because the pay from UI is so good.

Minimum wage is still far below inflation. If companies decide to lay people off because of it, then they are doing themselves a disservice. inflation and prices have risen a lot faster than minimum wage, and nearly every business offering minimum wage for work can afford to keep all those workers as the wage rises.

And with that, I say again, new cons don’t know how to run a business.

Maybe, maybe not…..that is not a broad brush subject. It depends on expenses in relation to profit….if raising the labor expense causes losses, then the option is to lay off…….raising the minimum wage means more for everybody except the one that has to go…..

And like it or not, our minimum wage puts us even further away from those around the globe that have very low labor rates.

Minimum wage laws hurt most the least qualified and, generally, the poorest, most disadvantaged workers. These are the workers who would be ecstatic to get a job at $5 per hr. but are beat out by higher-qualified workers who wouldn’t want a job at $6 per hr. but are fine with the minimum wage at, say, $7 per hr.

To give an unfair advantage to a select few, minimum wage laws violate the right to contract of both employers and the poorest unemployed. Also, they reduce the total number of employed people. A million dollars in wages can pay for 3,571 workers at $7 per hour (for a 40-hr work-week) but 5,000 workers at $5.

“Maybe because it would be about as effective as the debt ceiling is?”

Then what’s the big deal??

Seems they work around whatever they put in place, so go with it and play the end around game later………..

“Then what’s the big deal??”

Since it has no chance of passing anyway, it IS no big deal.

I guess the Mayans were on to something with that date thingie. DC’s going bat shiite crazy, and I expect it to begin spreading throughout the rest of the world. There appears to be evidence of spread already just by reading some of the posts here this afternoon.

md,

Economist Thomas Sowell has cited studies showing that decades ago black employment, especially among younger black males, was substantially higher when there was no minimum wage vs the introduction of the minimum wage and consequent raises in the minumum wage. And what’s amazing is that this holds true regarding black employment from a long time ago when wholesale discrimination against blacks was taking place.

Which is silly…….putting their foot down on issues that don’t much matter……….just part of the theatrics on both sides……..but it is what they live for…….they play the game yet don’t have to really suffer any meaningful consequences……….

Just saw the econmic news stating that for the spring quarter that the nation’s economy grew at a dismal 1.3% rate and that the current qtr we are in could be even worse. The Obama recession is about to be realized.

I see nothing wrong with a BBA

If we have to alter the Constitution just to control spending, we have a much bigger problem that we can solve. Anybody that can’t comprehend spending will increase as long as the population and inflation increases is 11 screws short of a dozen. That doesn’t mean that spending has to take off like John Force on the 1/4 mile either. Trying to cap spending by some arbitrary number will probably do more to harm this country as opposed to simply demanding people pay for what they desire.

If you want the greatest military in the world to protect your ass, then pay for it yourself, and quit letting China pay for it. If you want subsidies to aid companies, then pay for them. It’s very easy to blame the spending you don’t like while ignoring the spending that you ideologically agree with. We see that all the time with the whole welfare argument. How much of the entire budget does welfare spending make up when compared to defense spending?
