Oh, and you’re going to need a helicopter or a whitewater raft to get there.

carlosgvv: I know. But at least I can say I tried. And at least my rep was Republican so I’m sending the message to someone who doesn’t already agree. If lots of people do the same, maybe they’ll realize just how stupid they are being. Not that it will stop them necessarily, but even if it just startles them for a second that may help.

In my post at 8:43 a.m., I gave citizens the website for the numbers of all of the U.S. Representatives and Senators. I have now called all of Georgia’s Representatives. I was able to get through to all but three Representatives. You cannot reach the following Representatives via their phone lines in D.C., but you can reach them through their local offices in Georgia. Here is that information for callers:
Rep. Tom Price – Marietta, GA phone line 770-565-4990
FAX 770-565-7570
Rep. John Barrow – Augusta, GA phone line 706-722-4494
FAX 706-722-4496
Rep. Sanford Bishop – Albany, GA phone line 229-439-8067
FAX 229-436-2099
I urged these Representatives to vote for the Reid plan. It is not a perfect plan, I said, but hopefully it will keep our nation from having a credit lowering which will hurt all; compromise is needed.
I was able to reach all in Georgia but Representatives Tom Graves, David Scott, and Paul Broun because their D.C. phone lines were busy and their servers were down on their webpages, so that I could not get their local numbers and local fax numbers. Keep trying.

Oh, ffs. I wrote my congressman because I know that if only one person or a few people do it, it won’t mean anything. But if so many people want to contact their reps that the SITE goes down, then that means I better jump in there and express my desire for the “balanced approach” you seem to hate too, so that I can add my voice to the larger crowd that might actually affect something.
Until I heard the site went down, I wasn’t going to write. Congressmen have been ignoring the sentiments of the public for years. I don’t really EXPECT this time to be different, but I do think it will penetrate in some small way.

Below if from the NY Times. Bringing out a Moody’s and S&P downgrade is akin to being threatened by the Black Knight on Monty Python. They lost all credibility in 2008. This is Y2k all over again. Folks know that DC will eventually get over itself and anger both the tea party and the far left. Raise taxes, cut spending, fade Limbaugh, Matthews, and Hannity and provide a structure for the great American worker.
As Washington continues to debate a debt deal, the Obama administration has been preparing the country for the worst, with officials essentially saying the sky is about to fall.
But so far, oddly enough, nothing has happened. Despite warnings that a deal would need to be brokered by Sunday night before the Asian markets opened, stocks merely stumbled on Monday — the type of weakness usually associated with soft corporate earnings instead of an economic apocalypse.

1. Keep your communication short and to the point – always. Adam’s correspondence will never be read by his rep, and may just be skimmed by a staffer who will attempt to put it into one vote for a particular plan. This rule is especially true when there are likely to be hundreds, if not thousands of constituent calls and letters.
2. Always tell them where you live and stress that you live in their district, because
3. They don’t care about your opinion if you can’t vote for them. Mary Elizabeth may get some vicarious thrill by calling everybody in Georgia, but there are only three elected officials that will take her input seriously; her House rep and both Senators.
4. Did I mention keeping your responses short? There are, after all, elected politicians. By default they have short attention spans and almost non-existent thought processes. “I support the Reid plan”, or “Step on the Dems necks until they squeal like a pig” work much better than a well thought out letter of three paragraphs or more.
5. Remember that at the end of the day, they are counting votes. Your comments don’t matter except to identify you in one camp or another – are you for or against a particular bill?

“and ludicrous amounts of money will always be required unless we take the money out of politics”
Never going to happen. And, really, it isn’t the MONEY that’s the heart of the problem…it’s the knowing who contributed it.

Why then is the GOP fighting additional regulations on the ratings agencies in the financial reform bill
Granny- you got me. I would assume to make it look like they were doing something.

“I mean your post starting this discussion began rather insultingly.”
An observation of folks being partisan with their interpretation of a political speech is insulting??
I see that as an opinion on their observation, not attacking them personally as to who they need to think for them…………..
In your case, stating your opinion on how you view NBC would be the equivalent………..or not. That is your call………………

md: I just figured a Republican would respond well, or very very poorly, to me “knowing” and “believing” things. Strong language was intentional to convey seriousness.
