Soros is a predator, pogo. He is very good at spotting the weak, cutting him out of the herd and feasting on him. But capitalism requires, even celebrates, predators, does it not? Mitt Romney was a predator at Bain. Donald Trump, the GOP flavor of the month a while back, is a predator. The Koch brothers are predators.
I do find it fascinating to see the right celebrate when corporations evade taxes, yet somehow become outraged when a corporation such as GE, linked to Obama, evades taxes.
Likewise, Soros is an international financier, a supposed master of the universe and the type of self-made figure the right tends to idolize. But again, because he supports the left, the very traits that would otherwise get him lionized become reasons to hate him.

pogo, nice off-topic blowhard hyperbole and false equivocation. why not just say the soros is the architect of the european debt crisis. soros ran a hedge fund that returned over 30% annually over 30 years. he never didn’t built a morally bankrupt propaganda empire.
but thanks for the predictable and pathetically inaccurate comparison.

Seems you may be projecting your own personality traits onto entire groups of people?
You are guilty as can be of every single thing you claim the “right” ( is that every right leaning person or just a few?) is guilty of doing in your 4:33?
Yet you fail to mention that your entire financial life is a result of you doing the exact same things. If a person does something and happen to be a democrat, you usually remain silent about it… However if the same exact action is done by a republican we get an article complete with graphs as to why it is the republicans and them alone who are destroying our country.
The only difference between YOU and those you blast at 4:33 is that you think you are better an more wise than them because you refuse to admit that you foster quite a bit of hypocricy and one sided visons yourself.
Oh but you are simply an opinion columnist…. but why do you basically make fun of others who may have opinions, many who may share the same baisc view as you only they favor republicans and you democrats?
Is it because you are somehow better than them and your opinion must be correct?
Why the arrogance?

As well as making fun of posters or others for doing the very same thing as he does himself. As his main source of income!
If you want to bring up strawmen go ask Jay the same as I hadn’t noticed any mention of GE or Obama in this post, but Jay brings that up and poof you have no question!!! I question Jay about his post and you question me!

On the other, does News Corps’ stockholders really want a fuzzy-headed board chairman and company owner responsible for their investments who apparently can’t remember what he had for breakfast? What is really laughable is watching Fox News U.S.A. left out of the fun because the boss is watching. You gotta love it when the rich and powerful are the targets of hoist with one’s petard! Ewww. How the liberal nasties come out when their benefactor Soros is mentioned (no matter how dispiccable he is). Jay, at least you acknowledge some of his loathsomeness even though you try to excuse it using “Capitalism” as the culprit. No, with Soros it isn’t capitalism and it isn’t money. It is the greed for power. Read about Soros. The drive behind the man is to make the world into a place where the lucky few control everything we the “prolitariat” do. Money isn’t the driver for Soros, ultimate power is.
And Jay, are you actually saying you don’t like capitalism and that all those that take part in it are “predators”? I am very interested to know. It would be very interesting to know your take on exactly what kind of economic system (if not capitalism) we should be adhering to.

There was this quaint time a few decades back in this country when the GOP touted itself as “Tough on Crime.”
No more.
In fact, quite the opposite scenario now exists. They absolutely adore, enable and protect criminals.
BUT…only the white collar kind. You know, the new American sovereigns – the uber-wealthy hedge fund managers, banksters and casino capitalists who unleashed the Great Recession. And in their shockingly repulsive orgy of avarice and irresponsibility caused untold suffering for millions of innocent American families.
Yet, they still refuse to hold them accountable in any way at all.

One more comment on Soros – don’t ever doubt it, he wants to turn the USA into a European style socialist state and become richer in the process. If you have any wealth, not only would it be transferred to predators in the USA, but throughout the World. Any sign of American uniqueness would be only in history books. Wrong Jay. Are you so dense that you missed the point entirely? The right hates him because he took his money and THEN tries to use that money to change the rules (by influencing politics) so that nobody else could do the same. The point is not that Soros supports the left…the point is that he is attempting to create a failed welfare state in the U.S.
Warren Buffet also supports the left. But he is not hated the way Soros is. Here is your lesson plan for today, Jay. Study the political actions of both men… who support the left… and then report why Soros is hated and Buffet is not. I think that you will find your “support of the left” argument doesn’t make the cut for a passing grade.
Hint: While very rich, WB realizes that a strong U.S. economy and a strong middle class is what makes the business environment ripe for making money. He would rather see a nation of producers and consumers. So while the right may disagree with WB, (fundamentally) we are after the same result. Contrast that to Soros, and you see why we hate Soros but not Buffet.

“Left Wing” brings Soros being Jewish into the conversation. This is typical, sad but oh so very predicitable from the left. If nothing else works, then play the race or religion card. Most of the left have been reduced to nothing more than a shrill bunch of name-calling whiners who, when cornered, can only offer childish retorts in response to facts. To prove this just look at this blog for a few minutes.

There is absolutely no proof to date that the Murdoch US backed news outlets, ie The Wall Street Journal or Fox news has been complicit in any kind of chicanery that the English based News International has done. Fox has carried the hearings daily and has always stated that they are owned by Murdoch. I wonder how something that happens in a foreign country could gain so much liberal condemnation when no US laws have been broken and no US new outlet has been charged with wrongdoing of any kind. It seems to be a Brit problem. Why all the dustup? Maybe all of you libs are just intent on seeing Mr. Murdoch swinging in the wind, n’est-ce-pas?

As for reporting…REPORT: How Facts And Pressure Forced Fox News To Cover News Corp. Hacking Scandal
In the days after News Corp.’s long-simmering phone-hacking scandal reignited, a great disparity emerged in the amount of coverage given to the saga, with Fox News giving significantly less coverage to the story than CNN and MSNBC. But as other news organizations began to highlight Fox News’ relative silence on the scandal, as calls for investigations into the corporation mounted, and as resignations and arrests of top News Corp. officials mushroomed, it became impossible for Fox News to ignore the crumbling of a global media empire

Keep,
Sort of like the John Edwards fiasco or numerous other things that the liberal press has chosen to ignore until the evidence became so obvious that to continue to ignore it would be tantamount to a cover up. “Fact and Pressure Forced Fox News to Cover News Corp Hacking Scandal”? What a bunch of crap. They are no more guilty of a cover up than any other news outlet under the same moniker. Once more Keep, for emphasis…… No laws have broken, no indictments have been rendered and before you put Fox news and the Wall Street Journal in the grave, think carefully. I don’t like what he did in the UK either but until some kind of proof of a cover up, evidence of wrongdoing by either Murdoch owned news outlet is found, you are just pissing into the wind. BTW, facts are my long suit. I tend to believe them much more than conjecture.

Funny watching the left defend Soros, the hedge fund KING. I thought they hated hedgehogs. Hypocrisy rules when their ideology can be financed by one.
George Soros is known as the wealthiest speculator of all time. His trading all took place in the Netherlands Antilles, where his earnings compounded tax free.
The left’s Paul Krugman: “Nobody who has read a business magazine in the last few years can be unaware that these days there really are investors who not only move money in anticipation of a currency crisis, but actually do their best to trigger that crisis for fun and profit. These new actors on the scene do not yet have a standard name; my proposed term is ‘Soroi.’”
And THIS is a sick obsession.
In an interview with The Washington Post on November 11, 2003, Soros said that removing President George W. Bush from office was the “central focus of my life” and “a matter of life and death.” He said he would sacrifice his entire fortune to defeat President Bush, “if someone guaranteed it
Asked in 2006 about his statement in The Age of Fallibility that “the main obstacle to a stable and just world order is the United States”, Soros responded that “it happens to coincide with the prevailing opinion in the world.

The idea is that YOU are one of the main people who ask for “proof” or a link.
However it seems you only ask those things of right leaning posters, while you seem to never ask for proof about any of the ramblings or accusations labeled at fox by many posters here.
My question is are you honestly concerned about the accuracy of things written here or are you only concerned about accuracy involving things and ideas YOU support.
Unless you have some proof of you standing up and demanding sources of any of the things said about Fox on this blog, I mean they should be right there in the archives.

Perhaps the usefulness is over now, but the cons will never, ever, ever even acknowledge the historic need for affirmative action or any other single policy to assist in the remediation of wholesale torture, subjugation and murder of the black people.
As evidenced by the fact that their entire political party will not elect people of color. Much less give them a handup?

I said you are a fruitcake.” He referred to Rep. Nancy Johnson (R-Conn.) as a “whore” for the insurance industry and said her knowledge of healthcare came from “pillow talk” with her physician husband. He told former Health and Human Services Secretary Louis Sullivan, who is black, that he is “a disgrace to his race and his profession” because he opposes Stark’s liberal positions on healthcare. He falsely said that former Rep. J.C. Watts’ (R-Okla.) children were born out of wedlock. Nothing has happened to Stark and he continues to get reelected to Congress.

You keep close tabs on Nader. Do you have any knowledge of this taking place:
CBC to Lean on Nader
By Erin P. Billings
Roll Call Staff
June 21, 2004
Members of the Congressional Black Caucus will meet privately with independent presidential hopeful Ralph Nader on Tuesday afternoon to tell him in no uncertain terms that they want him out of the race. The CBC asked for the sit-down with Nader in April at the urging of Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.). The 39-member group wants to personally urge Nader — widely blamed for Democrat Al Gore’s narrow defeat in the 2000 presidential race — to abandon his White House bid.
CBC lawmakers, on the verge of formally endorsing Democratic Sen. John Kerry (Mass.) for president, said they fear a repeat of 2000 this fall. Members said by staying in the race, Nader will hurt Kerry’s chances and secure a second term for President Bush. The CBC chairman, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), said the group is committed to electing a Democrat to the White House and feels to that end it is critical to reach out to anyone who might be “blocking those efforts.”
Cummings said the CBC will try to impress upon Nader on Tuesday that while the independent candidate and Kerry have differences, they are minor when compared to the differences between Nader and Bush. “Hopefully, Mr. Nader will look at the big picture — that being he wants the country going in a much different direction than the country is going in now. We will ask that he not be an aider and abettor to anything that might be harmful to the Kerry campaign.”
One CBC member said the meeting with Nader will likely be a “very direct and blunt conversation.” Others said they expected the session to be “hard hitting” and that the group will not approach Nader with kid gloves.

Midori; I remembered my “story” about JC Watts incorrectly. He left Congress AFTER my dad was dead. he told my uncle, the quote he used in an interview, “I’m never going to be a 9-to-5 dad, but I’ve got an 11-year-old son. And we know the statistics about young black males.”
I had never read having heard it from a relative in OK who talked to him. I just took it as truth and lamented his loss to our Government. Just as I lamented Sam Nunn and Zell Miller, two other moderate voices…….

k71…. again, despite your non-factual denial, News Corp admitted NOTW bribed officials. That is a violation of US, UK and Austrailian law. You may continue your pout but the admissions are evidence of violation of US law. However, News Corp has not been charged YET in the US pending investigation. Investigation by the FBI and others is in progress and US officers of News Corp have resigned. More arrests may follow.
As for the whine about Edwards, why I am sure the Natl Inquirer is a reliable source. I do find it very ironic that when Fox covers a made up or exaggerated poutrage it says “why are we the only ones covering this [even when not true]” but now it wants to claim that it should not be covering a major invasion of privacy rights and admitted bribery of police officals by a newspaper controlled by a mega-media corporation.

Jay @4:33 pm
See, Jay, I could have written the same paragraph with the other slant, that being that George Soros represents everything that is considered evil by the left: he’s a billionaire (circa 14.5B, who *needs* that much money?), he’s a hedge-fund manager, he spends millions of dollars to support his political party taking full advantage of Citizen’s United ruling to use his mouthpiece website to promote his agenda, a self-made “master of the universe” who once cleared $1B *profit* in *one day* by manipulating currencies, was convicted of insider trading (in France) etc. And I bet he uses a small army of tax accountants and attorneys to avoid paying his “fair share” of taxes.
But none of that matters to anyone on the left, because he’s on their team. Although Paul Krugman is not exactly a Soros cheerleader: “[N]obody who has read a business magazine in the last few years can be unaware that these days there really are investors who not only move money in anticipation of a currency crisis, but actually do their best to trigger that crisis for fun and profit. These new actors on the scene do not yet have a standard name; my proposed term is ‘Soroi.’”
Personally, I have nothing against Mr. Soros, for all the reasons you listed. The only problem I have is that he exemplifies the hypocrisy of the left when they revile just about everything about Mr. Soros except for the fact that he funds their causes and not the other sides. I suspect that similarly, if the Koch brothers were donating to the Democratic party, no one on the left would be spitting on them as if they were the devil’s minions.

When will Blacks in history books include people other than Harriet Tubman, Fred Douglass, GW Carver, and MLK? When will kids learn about the Blacks who fought on both sides of the Civil War? Because those are the only three noteworthy folks in ALL history, well if we go worldwide MAYBE we could add Shaka Zulu. I mean they made a movie about HIM didn’t they?
WE will continue to march until we are one America, “E Pluribus Unum” and ALL Americans have the same opportunities to participate in social and economic America. Speaking of Citizens United (I did, right there a few postings ago!)…
I subscribe to some liberal sites, and as a result get regular emails from them and their affiliates. I recently received an email from PublicCitizen.org. Now, PublicCitizen.org is a 501(c)(4), who’s primary purpose seems to be opposing the ruling handed down in the Citizens United case.
Recall that the Citizens United case hinged on the fact that a 501(c)(4) corporation produced a movie that had a political purpose, in this case a documentary “Hillary: The Movie” that was intended to highlight Mrs. Clinton’s shortcomings at a time when she was running for president. Initially, this movie was the subject of an injunction as a prohibited expenditure of corporate monies for political purposes, which the Supreme Court rules was a violation of the First Amendment saying in effect that corporations, unions (this often is left out) and other organizations have a free speech right to promote their political opinions.
The email from Public Citizen was urging me to donate money to support their production of a documentary highlighting how bad the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United was, in their opinion.
That’s right: a 501(c)(4) corporation made a movie with the express political purpose of protesting the Supreme Court decision that said that a 501(c)(4) corporation could make a movie with an express political purpose!
Quote from the email “Support Public Citizen’s fight against runaway corporate power with a contribution of $40 or more today and get your own copy of “The Story of Citizens United” on DVD.”
As for the notion of “runaway corporate power” it doesn’t exist (yet?). We’ve seen that in the spending profiles from opensecrets.org that corporate spending comes in *way* behind unions in that regard.

If blacks were not committing so much crime, they wouldn’t have to worry about how much time they spent in prison. The GOP has nothing to do with prison sentences of convicted black criminals anymore than the Democrats do.
Unemployment figures?…. Without an education, it is hard to find a job. That’s not the GOP’s fault, my friend. Has more to do with bad choices. One in three potential HS graduates nationwide drop out, regardless of ethnic group. Many are black, where the rate is much higher.
“We will continue to march over Selma bridge until we are one America” I am not sure how to interpret that but we have the chance to be “one America” most of the time without calling attention to the fact that we are not “one America” but indeed, two Americas, one black and one white.
What is is going to take, Brocephus, for us to get on the same page? It is the biggest single problem that this nation faces, hidden just below the surface, where hate, victim hood and resentment linger. Bozo had a great chance to begin to heal this racial divide but he chose to try to make this a socialist country instead. Can you imagine what he could have accomplished attempting to bring us together? We need someone or something to bridge this gap. We’ve needed that for a very long time.

I’m forced to agree about the Prez. He is monkeying with racism all the time, never addressing it directly like his supposed stature and background promised. Much of Eric Holder’s rhetoric off-camera (and some on) seems to linger around the “my people” branch of history and logic.
As far as so many black Americans not finishing high school, I find that simply pathetic. High school isn’t even a worthwhile credential anymore. Here in the construction field, if you’re a college grad, you might be able to get a job doing something more than digging ditches–maybe. The fact that anyone is lamenting that many people not passing high school is lamentable in and of itself.

However, Watts’s tenure in the leadership proved difficult. Despite his elevated post, Watts often felt alienated by GOP decision makers.44 He also found himself at odds with powerful Republican Whip Tom DeLay of Texas. Watts disagreed with DeLay’s often forceful leadership. As a result, the GOP Whip’s hands-on approach to gathering votes and maintaining party unity often overstepped Watts’s role as the hub for communication within the GOP Conference. In July 1999, Watts threatened to resign from his leadership position to protest DeLay’s alleged encroachment on his duties, but he stopped short of doing so. When Majority Leader Dick Armey of Texas announced his retirement in 2002, Watts considered running to replace him and he quietly solicited the aid of congressional allies; however, DeLay nailed down enough votes to secure the position before Watts made an open bid for Majority Leader.45
Watts also felt ignored by Republican President George W. Bush’s administration. In 2002, the Pentagon considered eliminating funding for an $11 billion weapons system that would be partially assembled in Watts’s district in Elgin, Oklahoma. Watts later claimed that President Bush refused to return his phone calls after targeting the project for spending cuts. When Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld announced the program’s demise on May 8, Watts was only given two hours’ notice from the Pentagon. An early and avid supporter of the Bush administration, Watts was furious. When the President addressed the Republican Conference on Capitol Hill the next week, Watts was conspicuously absent.
In 2002, Watts declined to run for re-election to the 108th Congress (2003–2005), citing a desire to spend more time with his family.
but Stark wasn’t nowhere near a bigger jerk than Delay.
It was during that time that one of Delay’s henchmen attacked Watts about his illegitimate children.

Care to expound why college grad Blacks are the last hired and first fired? or did they make the bad choice to further their education? Interesting percentage there with the 1 in 3…
The national dropout rate is notoriously hard to pin down, and the latest effort to do so – showing alarmingly low graduation rates in some parts of America – is likely to intensify the statistics wars.
Nearly 1 in 3 high school students in the Class of 2006 will not graduate this year, the Editorial Projects in Education (EDE) Research Center reported Tuesday.
[...]
“Our research paints a much starker picture of the challenges we face in high school graduation. When 30 percent of our ninth-graders [ultimately] fail to finish high school with a diploma, we are dealing with a crisis that has frightening implications for our … future,” says Christopher Swanson, director of the EDE Research Center.
The trouble is, it may not be accurate.
[...]
Others, who see such studies as overblown, were as quick to denounce it. “Swanson’s measure is seriously inaccurate,” says Larry Mishel of the Economic Policy Institute and author of another study on dropout rates. “It’s … inappropriate for comparisons across states and school districts, the reason being that his formula is very much affected by how much grade retention there is in ninth and 10th grade. Any school that retains students in ninth grade is automatically going to look worse, whether graduation rates really are lower [there] or not,” he said of the new report.
His own report, based on the US Education Department’s National Educational Longitudinal Study, suggests that in 1992, 78 percent of students received a regular diploma, rising to 83 percent by 1994. For African-American students, whose graduation rates lag behind the US average, the figure rose from 63 percent to 74 percent over that period.
In fact, education experts say, none of the existing dropout-rate data gives a full picture. Governors are making changes that will yield better counts within a few years, they add.
Very dated material from 2006…
If you wanna know what it’s gonna take, it’s gonna take effort from EVERYBODY to quit trying to boil things down to a Black/White issue. Sad thing is, for many older people, I think it’s so ingrained into the everyday actions that we will have to have a few more generations die off before things really change and we truly become one as a nation.
Kids that are born now do not automatically have that fear of other races or people who don’t look like them. They learn those behaviors from older people like us. People see me in regular street clothes and think nothing but the worst possible thing. When they see me in uniform, it’s a 180 degree different reaction. Obama never had a snowball’s chance in hell at bridging the racial divide in this country. In another 60 years or so, things would probably be different, but you still have people alive who lived Jim Crow.

One of the GA cases studied involved a black accused of a white person before an all white jury where the public defender stood up and talked to the jury about his N…. client.

President Obama would consider a short-term measure aimed at raising the nation’s debt ceiling and avoiding a default by Aug. 2 if Congress agrees to a larger, long-term deficit-reduction and debt-ceiling deal and needs “a few days” to finalize the legislation, his spokesman said Wednesday.
With time running out for reaching such a deal, Obama called House and Senate Democratic leaders to a White House meeting Wednesday as he sought to shore up his party’s support for a compromise deficit-reduction plan that could help break a political impasse over the debt limit and avert a U.S. default.

One aspect of the Fed’s contingency planning is purely operational: the Fed is developing procedures about how the Treasury will let it know which checks will get cleared and which won’t, Plosser said.
The Fed effectively acts as the Treasury’s bank — it clears the government’s checks to everyone from social security recipients to government workers.
“We are developing processes and procedures by which the Treasury communicates to us what we are going to do,” Plosser said, adding that the task was manageable. “How the Fed is going to go about clearing government checks. Which ones are going to be good? Which ones are not going to be good?”
What’s that saying. Oh Yes. Tick Tock, or something like that.

The point is that for some unknown reason, a Redneck is SUPPOSED to be Southern. It’s code word for white, rural Southern. Fine, but if that’s what you are shticking, then do it right. Otherwise, it’s pandering to prejudice, bigotry and bias. Nothing that jackass ever posts even attempts to present the Redneck in any form other than negative. I find that offensive. That he’s not very good at the dialect he’s attempting to burlesque (or satirize) only adds to the offense. He ain’t no Larry the Cable Guy and he certainly ain’t no Lewis Grizzard.

The meme appears to be that corporations “own” the Republican Party, which is no more true than saying corporations “own” the Democratic Party. But that money seems to be swamped by the incredible one-sidedness of union “donations” favoring the Democratic party.

There’s a misconception on your part that we cannot track it. It can and should be tracked, however, our esteemed leaders refuse to legislate that into being. Do you think all these Super PAC’s are raising money by hitting grandma and grandpa up for $10 each? That’s the money I’m talking about. It flows to both parties, further enabled by the SCOTUS due to Citizen’s United.
Did you see the arrest on Tuesday near DC? A naturalized American of Pakistani descent was arrested for being a Pakistani Intelligence Agent. He estimated to have funneled up to $100k a year in political contributions.
In total, the FBI estimates that the group received up to $700,000 per year from Pakistani government sources, according to the complaint. The nonprofit group reported much smaller budgets in its annual reports to the Internal Revenue Service.
Prosecutors also allege that the group served as a conduit for political contributions, both secret and public, that may have reached $100,000 per year. The biggest single recipient of disclosed contributions was Rep. Dan Burton (R-Ind.), a longtime pro-Pakistani advocate on Kashmir, who expressed shock Tuesday at Fai’s arrest.

Brosephus “There’s a misconception on your part that we cannot track it. It can and should be tracked, however, our esteemed leaders refuse to legislate that into being. ”
Sorry, I was unclear. I didn’t mean it is impossible to track, but rather that since it is *not* currently tracked, one cannot currently say too much about it that is anything more than a guess. So saying it flows to Ds or Rs or comes from this corporation or that union is just so much supposition. The numbers that opensecrets publish come from tracked monies and currently show a picture of union’s spending being way out in front of corporations, for tracked monies.
On this I agree, though, political donations should be disclosed. I don’t have a real problem with Citizen’s allowing unions and corporations to spend their money like individuals, but I do think the public has a right to know how much money candidates, parties, and the PACs took from which unions and corporations and individuals. A reasonable threshold would limit reporting only to donors (of all stripes) whose contributions could be construed to rise to the level of corruption/bribes.

One thing though, corporations don’t vote. All politician are still, ostensibly, elected by the people. It’s more accurate to say, then, that unions and corporations (and rich individuals) use their money to help convince people to elect politicians who are beholden to the unions and corporations (and rich individuals). Ok, I misread that statement. In all honesty though, I don’t think we should be contributing anything to political campaigns. If it were up to me to design campaign reform, elections would take 6 months tops, including runoffs. There would be no outside money involved at all with all campaigns being 100% public funded with a set limit per office.
If a candidate can not run a campaign with a set budget and manage his funds well, I don’t want him in office messing with my tax dollars. If he/she doesn’t receive money from any outside source, there’s no urge to repay the donation with some type of shenanigans. Also, keeping the election period to a set beginning and end, would keep us from this whole silly crap of “is he running or not?” and incumbents could actually do their damned jobs instead of worrying about re-election stuff.

Funny thing is, I’m comfortable where I am now. I guess that growing up with little to nothing has kinda kept me grounded in adulthood. I don’t want the fancy clothes, expensive jewelry, and exotic cars. I’ve got a decent house that I can afford and grow into if we add more to the family. We have dependable vehicles, and we’re not struggling to pay all our bills. We cut back a bit when my wife changed jobs, but it wasn’t something that made me cry or even wince. It was stuff that could have been cut regardless, and those things would not have been missed anyway.
I’m a bit of an old soul, so the whole youthful get out and do everything doesn’t really appeal to me. My gratification comes from seeing my ladies enjoying themselves doing something they want to do. I think if I did earn more, it would probably end up being more of a burden than something I’d enjoy.

Well, the ability of some poeple who are not from certain parts to pass their judgments on the merits of people they just joined, is somewhat different from Southerners.
Southerners ACCEPT others and watch their foibles with a smile while realizing that said “invaders” cannot do any better.
Southerners, well known for their good manners and hospitality, do not make an issue of a person’s birthplace but are proud and protective of their own. It is the place they love. Their ancestors are buried here. Their personal history is here. They do not think it “seemly” for a visitor to vent their spleen upon locals because they are Southern in a southern place.
In other words, if you are a damn Yankee who is rude, crude and unattactive you may be treated as though you are rude, crude and unattrative. Southerners aim to please. If you act like a small mule, we perceive that is what you are and treat you as one.
As to poppycock about pickups, flags, and other fables, leave that stuff to people like “professional” RedNecks. Entertainers! They make a fool of themselves everyday. So RELAX. BE nice. You will find that works just fine in the south and you’ll think you are in heaven, ’cause that is the real South. .

Jay’s Fair and Balanced blog will undoubtedly tomorrow feature a Photoshop rendition of the POTUS standing at the royal lecturn with the head of Pinnochio. The consensus tonight is that it will be well beyond a couple of days before anything is worked out, passed, and signed.
WHITE HOUSE press secretary Jay Carney: “The president does not support a short-term extension of the debt limit, period. The only exception to that is in the event that both sides reach a deal on a long-term extension of the debt limit plus significant deficit reduction, and we needed a very short-term extension, like a few days, to allow a bit of extra time for a bill to work its way through the legislative process.”
If you recall, President Obama said he would not support a short-term deal.
Here is the capture for Jay’s Photoshop effort:http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2011/07/11/obama_on_deficit_talks_time_to_pull_off_the_band-aid_eat_our_peas.html

For me, it’s not about what the government will take. I have myself being taxed hard throughout the year anyway, so taking more won’t bother me at all. ‘He is very good at spotting the weak, cutting him out of the herd and feasting on him. But capitalism REQUIRES, EVEN CELEBRATES, PREDATORS, does it not?’
This is a fundamental fallacy that the far left, yes you jay, perpetuate that is completely at odds with what free-market capitalists aspire to. You try to paint the whole system dysfuntional based on a what a few unscrupulous people have done……the fact is that this system demands a certain standard of person to work most efficiently and the problem is not with the system, it’s with the standards of the people in the system….the capitalist system doesn’t create these things that you suggest it does, the people who are predators create the predators in the free market system……AND if you police the system correctly, you limit the predators…….a free-market capitalist believes that the gov’t has REPEATEDLY failed to police a system and ACTUALLY punish the predators…….and finally a conservative free-market capitalist agrees that a balanced budget amendment will exponentially enhance the free market that has taken our country to heights never seen before it……. please tell all ,jay, what your vision of capitalism is? Be careful……

Love is a funny thing. It comes in several forms. When you grow up in happy surroundings with those you love, then that is your founding place. The South is my founding place. I have lived happily in other places but the love of my founding place remains. It is just there.
My country is another love. I consider that a particular blessing.
To tell the truth, love in many forms is happiness. I first found it in the South. I have found it other places but as I said, the South is my founding place.
So, welcome South, you ol’ damn Yankee. We love you, whether you like it or not.

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America ’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure…. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America ’s debt limit.” – Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.

Wal-Mart the Latest Victim of Global Labor Arbitrage
Wal-Mart has endured eight straight quarters of declining sales in stores opened for at least one year.
What Wal-Mart is experiencing is a globalization business model that is beginning to reach its logical conclusion.
The grand irony is that Wal-Mart’s business model has led to the impoverishment of the very customers that used to make it a profitable and growing business. Wal-Mart did more than transplant its product sourcing to third world countries, it transplanted its entire business to a third world country, by bringing third world wages and salaries to its American customer base. Wal-Mart might just as well move its headquarters to Mexico or China and list its stock on a local exchange in a third world country, because those are the conditions it has created for itself.
Wal-Mart is the first major company to experience this because its business model is so lopsided; it buys from China and largely sells to American consumers.
This is a long, drawn-out process, but the road we are on in our well-connected global economy is not one in which third world living standards rise up to meet first world living standards. It is one in which everyone’s living standards meet at some happy middle ground – happy, at least, for those in poor countries that are on their way up.
[Corporations] don’t see they have extracted the maximum amount of benefit out of globalization, and that they are now operating at the peak of the curve, after which revenue and margin growth are going to start reversing, and for some companies wind up negative. Most of them will pity poor Wal-Mart, whose customers are “broke”, never imagining that the same thing is going to happen to them.
This is a great short article — well worth the couple of minutes it will take you to read it.

Let me break out those prophetic words of Krugman from November as I think they remain very current:
Barring a huge upset, Republicans will take control of at least one house of Congress next week. How worried should we be by that prospect?
Not very, say some pundits. After all, the last time Republicans controlled Congress while a Democrat lived in the White House was the period from the beginning of 1995 to the end of 2000. And people remember that era as a good time, a time of rapid job creation and responsible budgets. Can we hope for a similar experience now?
No, we can’t. This is going to be terrible. In fact, future historians will probably look back at the 2010 election as a catastrophe for America, one that condemned the nation to years of political chaos and economic weakness.

Mick : “Things could be a lot worse, I mean you could’ve been born into the middle ages in a life as a serf. Unfortunately, that is where the republicans would like to take us, we will not let it happen…”
In the Middle Ages of course the exploitation and domination of the people — the serfs, the peasants — was complete and absolute. By the church, by the land owners. But now we live in the age of the capitalists, half way between the domination of the middle ages and something we know not what. We’re stuck. Property is no longer dominated by the nobles and the church, but now it’s dominated by the capitalists and the wealthy. This is all just Marx 101.
But the new ruse, the one that the politicians — of both political parties in the US — want us to swallow is just a new superstition, which amounts to: get down on your knees and offer up your tribute to the new god: the logic of the market. And it will be our new god.
Sounds great, no?

Your analogy is interesting but I have a different and opposite conclusion. I believe an independent analysis of communism as it was applied in Russia, China, and Cuba would deterimine the standard of living in those societies was much closer to that of the middle ages than Capitalism during the same period. Two of those countries abandoned Communism in favor of Capitalism. Words and excuses will not overcome examples and facts. The U.S. is the richest country in the world.

Mighty Righty: I have read the article, and links, and I do not find a particular problem with the DHS’s classifications. I do think it is important to make sure threats are identified. Please try to remember the DHS is a Bush initiative. If they are focused on things you think they should not be focused on, tough. They aren’t created for your amusement or demagoguery. They are there to identify threats and help protect the general US public from those threats.
I think it speaks to how successful we are at combating terrorism that our most terrible threats are from nutjobs in our own country. So cheer up, dude.

Hi Mighty, I think you’re right to bring up the examples of Russia, China, etc. And we could also include Singapore, Brazil, and others, in that group, too. Part of what we’re seeing right now is the adoption of capitalism by formerly absolutist cultures and civilizations, but without adopting the cultural norms of liberal democracy, which is a very serious development.
Historical development seems to show that capitalism needed the virtues of Western civilization to emerge in full form, but now what we’re seeing is that cultures from outside that sphere are taking it up but without adopting the cultural norms that went with it and seemed to be necessary for it. The only question is, can these cultures do capitalism EVEN BETTER than the West by marrying it to their historically absolutist traditions. And the early evidence is not encouraging, as there’s every reason to think that with this move these cultures have hit on a new formula that could end up being extremely dominant in the world for a very long time, and not with outcomes that we would find desirable. In other words what we’ll end up with then is something far different that the capitalism that its defenders in America have traditionally envisioned.

For your reading enjoyment:
Despite encouraging viewers not to pay attention to a person’s race in determining whether or not they may be a terrorist, almost all of the scenarios in the clip proceed to portray white people as the most likely terrorists. Bizarrely, nearly every single one of the “patriotic” Americans who reports on their fellow citizen is either black, Asian or Arab. Imagine if the video had portrayed every terrorist as an Arab and every patriotic snoop as white, there’d be an outcry and rightly so, but this strange reversal must have been deliberate on the part of the DHS, but why? Is this merely political correctness taken to the extreme or is something deeper at work?
Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the DHS’ own internal documents list predominantly white conservative groups as the most likely terrorists, such as Ron Paul supporters, gun owners, gold bullion enthusiasts, and a myriad of other comparatively banal political interests that are largely the domain of white middle class Americans.
This has little to do with the color of a person’s skin, and everything to do with the fact that white, middle class Americans are the biggest roadblock when it comes to Big Sis expanding its control over every facet of American society.

C’mon, Mighty, this is silly. Do you really think that?
Surely you realize that it’s not really possible to speak of a political orientation in the normal sense in the case of a paranoid schizophrenic who’s completely gone into a psychotic episode.
If we wanted to try to translate his bizarre fantasies into some kind of political language that’s familiar to us, we’d probably end up with some type of radical libertarianism (concern about devaluing currency, law, etc.). But this is a vain attempt and very misleading. So you really should desist from repeating nonsense about Jared Loughner.

It is misleading and simplistic to say that capitalism requires or celebrates predators.
One thing capitalism does require is a willingness to let businesses fail.
Capitalism works best when there are enough competent people assertively, proactively, and energetically pursuing their own interests. Ideally, these should be traders who seek to exchange value for value, not predators or power seekers. Under mixed-economy statism such as we have now, predators and power seekers can use government to help them get what they want, and this can be very destructive. Under true laissez-faire capitalism, even predators and power seekers have to act like traders if they are to profit or to gain or hold positions of strength, and this limits their destructive potential.
