Well, the ability of some poeple who are not from certain parts to pass their judgments on the merits of people they just joined, is somewhat different from Southerners.

Southerners ACCEPT others and watch their foibles with a smile while realizing that said “invaders” cannot do any better.

Southerners, well known for their good manners and hospitality, do not make an issue of a person’s birthplace but are proud and protective of their own. It is the place they love. Their ancestors are buried here. Their personal history is here. They do not think it “seemly” for a visitor to vent their spleen upon locals because they are Southern in a southern place.

In other words, if you are a damn Yankee who is rude, crude and unattactive you may be treated as though you are rude, crude and unattrative. Southerners aim to please. If you act like a small mule, we perceive that is what you are and treat you as one.

As to poppycock about pickups, flags, and other fables, leave that stuff to people like “professional” RedNecks. Entertainers! They make a fool of themselves everyday. So RELAX. BE nice. You will find that works just fine in the south and you’ll think you are in heaven, ’cause that is the real South. .

Jay’s Fair and Balanced blog will undoubtedly tomorrow feature a Photoshop rendition of the POTUS standing at the royal lecturn with the head of Pinnochio. The consensus tonight is that it will be well beyond a couple of days before anything is worked out, passed, and signed.

WHITE HOUSE press secretary Jay Carney: “The president does not support a short-term extension of the debt limit, period. The only exception to that is in the event that both sides reach a deal on a long-term extension of the debt limit plus significant deficit reduction, and we needed a very short-term extension, like a few days, to allow a bit of extra time for a bill to work its way through the legislative process.”

If you recall, President Obama said he would not support a short-term deal.

Here is the capture for Jay’s Photoshop effort:http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2011/07/11/obama_on_deficit_talks_time_to_pull_off_the_band-aid_eat_our_peas.html

(I think Obama has been snookered and that opinion will be borne out in short order)

For me, it’s not about what the government will take. I have myself being taxed hard throughout the year anyway, so taking more won’t bother me at all. I’ll still make more after taxes than what I did before. I just don’t see where more money would make me a better person than I already am. Sometimes, too much of a good thing is just as bad as having enough of a bad thing.

‘He is very good at spotting the weak, cutting him out of the herd and feasting on him. But capitalism REQUIRES, EVEN CELEBRATES, PREDATORS, does it not?’
This is a fundamental fallacy that the far left, yes you jay, perpetuate that is completely at odds with what free-market capitalists aspire to. You try to paint the whole system dysfuntional based on a what a few unscrupulous people have done……the fact is that this system demands a certain standard of person to work most efficiently and the problem is not with the system, it’s with the standards of the people in the system….the capitalist system doesn’t create these things that you suggest it does, the people who are predators create the predators in the free market system……AND if you police the system correctly, you limit the predators…….a free-market capitalist believes that the gov’t has REPEATEDLY failed to police a system and ACTUALLY punish the predators…….and finally a conservative free-market capitalist agrees that a balanced budget amendment will exponentially enhance the free market that has taken our country to heights never seen before it……. please tell all ,jay, what your vision of capitalism is? Be careful……

Bruno,

Love is a funny thing. It comes in several forms. When you grow up in happy surroundings with those you love, then that is your founding place. The South is my founding place. I have lived happily in other places but the love of my founding place remains. It is just there.

My country is another love. I consider that a particular blessing.

To tell the truth, love in many forms is happiness. I first found it in the South. I have found it other places but as I said, the South is my founding place.

So, welcome South, you ol’ damn Yankee. We love you, whether you like it or not.

March 2006

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America ’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure…. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America ’s debt limit.” – Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.

Wal-Mart the Latest Victim of Global Labor Arbitrage

Wal-Mart has endured eight straight quarters of declining sales in stores opened for at least one year.

What Wal-Mart is experiencing is a globalization business model that is beginning to reach its logical conclusion.

The grand irony is that Wal-Mart’s business model has led to the impoverishment of the very customers that used to make it a profitable and growing business. Wal-Mart did more than transplant its product sourcing to third world countries, it transplanted its entire business to a third world country, by bringing third world wages and salaries to its American customer base. Wal-Mart might just as well move its headquarters to Mexico or China and list its stock on a local exchange in a third world country, because those are the conditions it has created for itself.

Wal-Mart is the first major company to experience this because its business model is so lopsided; it buys from China and largely sells to American consumers.

This is a long, drawn-out process, but the road we are on in our well-connected global economy is not one in which third world living standards rise up to meet first world living standards. It is one in which everyone’s living standards meet at some happy middle ground – happy, at least, for those in poor countries that are on their way up.

[Corporations] don’t see they have extracted the maximum amount of benefit out of globalization, and that they are now operating at the peak of the curve, after which revenue and margin growth are going to start reversing, and for some companies wind up negative. Most of them will pity poor Wal-Mart, whose customers are “broke”, never imagining that the same thing is going to happen to them.

This is a great short article — well worth the couple of minutes it will take you to read it.

Let me break out those prophetic words of Krugman from November as I think they remain very current:

Barring a huge upset, Republicans will take control of at least one house of Congress next week. How worried should we be by that prospect?

Not very, say some pundits. After all, the last time Republicans controlled Congress while a Democrat lived in the White House was the period from the beginning of 1995 to the end of 2000. And people remember that era as a good time, a time of rapid job creation and responsible budgets. Can we hope for a similar experience now?

No, we can’t. This is going to be terrible. In fact, future historians will probably look back at the 2010 election as a catastrophe for America, one that condemned the nation to years of political chaos and economic weakness.

Hopefully, I’ll get back to the UK next june for some tea and adventure…

I’m coming over for the Olympics — don’t have any tickets yet, but I do have a flat I’m renting from a friend for 3 weeks. I can’t WAIT to go to Harrod’s and shop until I pass out from lack of money or exhausation, whichever comes first!

Indeed he was right, the 2010 elections can already clearly be seen as marking a decisive and disastrous turn in the political history of the United States, the consolidation of paralysis.

I like Jay’s Age of Illusion yesterday, and another option is that we call the age we’ve now entered The Terrible Age.

I watched Jim DeMint…”On The Record” last night. Simply put, Cut Cap & Balance is the only plan that’s actually on the table and in writing. The dems have offered nothing in writing. Can’t vote on what doesn’t exist or, as he put it…”Can’t vote on a speech.”

Excellent!

Things could be a lot worse, I mean you could’ve been born into the middle ages in a life as a serf. Unfortunately, that is where the republicans would like to take us, we will not let it happen…

Below is a prime example of the insanity that prevails in this administration and one of many reasons why this nation cannot survive six more years of these fools. No thinking person can read this and excuse the stupidity of the very people charged with our safety.

Tom Morrow is always right on target!

I’d like to think he has his fans in the Administration. I like even more to think that Obama reads it, and finds the Middle-Man ‘toons appropriately irritating.

In a just world, T.T. would be a multi-millionaire, invited on all the Sunday morning bobblehead shows, a household name.

He’s as good as Luckovich and maybe even a little bit funnier!

The two men have very different missions. Daily newspaper vs. alternative-weekly, it’s like the difference between a beat reporter and a feature writer.
