Herman Cain: Mosque infringes on his religious liberty

From the Daily News Journal in Murfreesboro, Tenn.:

MURFREESBORO — Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Thursday an effort by local Muslims to build a large mosque here is an attempt to “sneak” Shariah law into the fabric of the U.S. legal system.

“I think it is an infringement and abuse of our freedom of religion, and I don’t agree with what’s happening here because this isn’t an innocent mosque,” Cain told reporters after speaking to a crowd of hundreds on the Murfreesboro Public Square.

“This is another way to sneak Shariah law into our laws, and I absolutely object to that,” Cain said.

Imagine that: Building a mosque in Tennessee infringes on Cain’s freedom of religion and is an attempt to sneak Sharia law into American law.

What mind-numbing, head-shaking stupidity.

More importantly, it’s dangerous, because it legitimizes anti-Islamic bigotry in a community that is already struggling to find room in its conscience to allow Muslim neighbors the freedom to worship as their faith demands.

Cain is no better than a David Duke or Lester Maddox.

I thought those of the Orange Pekoe Brigade pledged to focus only on economic issues and to protect state rights…whatever happened to that?

Well no one said Cain was SMART — just that he was the “token” for the republican party.

Herman Cain is as moronic as Bachmann and wouldn’t have even been given the mention of his name until the social conservatives rose up in the anti-Obama movement. We’ve been inundated by anti-muslim, anti-gay, anti-everything types who use fear to get people stirred up. It’s sad that a community has embraced the rights of their citizens and outsiders have to try to dictate their values.

Political Correction: Let me ask you, the Obama administration, Eric Holder’s DOJ, is going after public schools – he’s suing public schools, for – there was a case where he’s suing a public school for releasing a Muslim woman, letting her go because she wanted to go on a pilgrimage. Do you think that’s political, what they’re doing, or do you think that’s the job of the federal DOJ?

Herman Cain: That’s political…purely political is what that is. I would rather the DOJ enforce the Defense Of Marriage Act than worry about whether a lady was let go because she wanted to take off an inordinate amount of time. Rules are rules in the workplace. The last time I checked, if you work for somebody, you work for an institution, and they’ve got work rules, you don’t go take the job and then you want to change the rules later because of your religion. Go work somewhere else.

http://politicalcorrection.org/blog/201103280005

Now, I wonder how he would feel if that was a Baptist woman who wanted to go on a mission? Does his pursuit of the almighty dollar trump his passion for the Almighty? And if that is the case, doesn’t that de-legitimize (as if they were legitimate to begin with) his anti-gay bigotry based on his religious beliefs?

Let me turn down the volume a moment…..

I won’t worry about this, he’ll get hammer justifiably for this incredibly stupid comment and sooner or later deny ever having said it.

(see previous remarks re:muslims and subsequent walk backs)

Now crank up the volume, his version of “This is the Day” makes me wanna shake my tambourine.

So Straw Man, your implication is that anti-Muslim bigotry is justified?

You think they should not be allowed to build a mosque because it might infringe on YOUR religious liberty to co-exist only with those religions of which you approve?

Since you are far more politically astute than I am, Dave, is there ANYONE left on the Republican bench who might have a legitimate shot to replace Romney as the front runner?? For both political and persoanl reasons, I am more than underwhelmed by Romney’s candidacy. You either misremember or mislead, Cat.

I made it quite clear that the people putting together that rally had every right to do so, and I wished them good luck in their endeavor. Just because I disagree with their theology doesn’t give me the right to try to stop them from worshipping as they wish.

Would you care to disagree?

Funny, just passed Murfreesboro today on the way here from Nashville, where this morning there were morning talkers discussing how it was a toss up between supporting Cain or Bachmann. Amazing what a sneering lot these right wingers are. But they did manage to carry the entire Obama press conference live this morning and refrained from snide commentary, so I’ll credit them for that at least.

In general though, being back here for the first time in a while I’m always amazed again at the almost complete stranglehold that the right wing propaganda has on the airwaves in this area.

Herman Cain: Mosque infringes on his religious liberty

Maybe he’s getting desperate, feeling dissed by the Koch bros. He did so well at their auditions, but
now I heard they’re supporting Dumber (Bachmann) over Dumb.

Few of his supporters know of his association with Aquila corp (board member) . An Enron-like trading company that shafted thousands of workers out of their pension investments.

The problem is that crazy left and crazy right have the same moniker, which makes it hard to tell the difference.
