‘American Jews aren’t as pro-Israel as they should be’

U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh, R-Ill.

U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh, R-Ill.

This rant from U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh, Republican from Illinois, cracks me up in a sad, melancholy kind of way:

” … where is the outrage from the American Jewish community? Don’t they understand that the president is not pro-Israel? Aren’t they troubled by his history of pro-Palestinian writings, speeches, and actions? The short answer is that most American Jews are liberal, and most American liberals side with the Palestinians and vague notions of “peace” instead of with Israel’s well-being and security. Like the president, the U.N., and most of Europe, too many American Jews aren’t as pro-Israel as they should be…”

It’s just delicious: A Catholic politician from Illinois, berating and lecturing Jews because they aren’t as pro-Israel as he thinks they ought to be, being Jews and all. And of course, he gets to define what being “pro-Israel” means.

It’s similar in subtext to conservatives who lecture black Americans about “staying on the Democratic plantation,” thus implying that black voters who vote Democratic are just too stupid to know what is really good for them. Those who issue such lectures have no idea how the condescension just drips from their lips as they utter such remarks.

If Jews and liberals are pro palistinian it’s okay with me. The Jews that I know are not pro palistinian. If the Bamster continues his anti Jewish policies he and you will find out their support is not blind.

‘American Jews aren’t as pro-Israel as they should be’

Actually BiBi Netanyahu isn’t as pro-Israel as he should be

A Joint Statement From Clinton And Netanyahu
From last November 11. Money quote:

The Prime Minister and the Secretary agreed on the importance of continuing direct negotiations to achieve our goals. The Secretary reiterated that “the United States believes that through good-faith negotiations, the parties can mutually agree on an outcome which ends the conflict and reconciles the Palestinian goal of an independent and viable state, based on the 1967 lines, with agreed swaps, and the Israeli goal of a Jewish state with secure and recognized borders that reflect subsequent developments and meet Israeli security requirements.”

Great find from Andrew Sullivan….

he added the comment ( and I heartily agree)

“What a bald-faced liar Bibi is; and how pathetic that so many fell for his hissy fit yet again”

Liars and knuckleheads….

Well, it looks like this moron just shot himself in the foot — so in other words he’s yelling at the Jews for not getting poutraged enough and then calls them all liberals — OH! So! You don’t agree with ME! Therefore you must be liberal!!

It’s like men who are over-testosteroned who are shocked when women don’t want to sleep with them and assume there’s only ONE explanation — they must be a lesbian.

Talk about a twister and a contortionist, Jay takes one remark from one Republican and then takes a generalized supposition about the attitude of conservatives toward black Americans and tries to create an illusion that paints all Republican conservatives as anti Jewish American as well as thinking that Black’s are stupid. I’ll bet Jay believes that he actually fools people into not seeing through it.

You mean kinda like those liberals who say poor rednecks are just too dumb to vote in their economic interest (ie, they should join us in stealing wealth from the wealthy so that our economy slowly goes in the toilet)?

Freud would have a field day. But since he’s not here, I’m going to have one in his stead.

What it is is a textbook case of REPRESSED bigotry. Which is not to say that the Rep. from Illinois is himself a bigot, but just that the discourse in which he’s participating and propagating is a vehicle for bigotry.

Ten years ago any politician beginning a statement with the word “Jews” in it and a claim as categorical as this would in 99 of 100 cases have automatically checked himself from making such ridiculous statements. (And the poor sap who was 1 of 100 would have been sanctioned appropriately.) But nowadays, with this mysterious radicalization that’s occurred in the tectonic plates of our political discourse, these types of statements seem to just have free rein. The fact that they strike us as so brazen is an index of a repressed energy that’s been freed up from the strictures of a fallen taboo.

Perhaps American Jews are aware of something in their perceptions that Walsh and his kind are simply missing in theirs. The sad part is that Walsh, and conservative Republicans who think as he does, are not even aware of the limitations of their thinking. Instead of exploring why Americans Jews may be responding as they do, they choose, instead, to tell others how to think. When those who are similar to Walsh in worldview are in power, the world is truly in danger.

The thinking of the world must move past seeing in terms of limited definitions of who we are and in seeing only in terms of “you vs. me.” A leader of vision, like President Obama, can show the world how to break through those old ways of seeing others – which creates conflict, in itself, simply by its limited and narrowly defined vision of what and who people are. People throughout the world have more in common than they have differences, simply because all are human. It is wiser to emphasize those commonalities rather than to seek to polarize the differences.

“I think you need to look into why you are constantly so antagonistic to my points of view.”

Hon, that’s not unique to you. Pay attention a bit and you’ll see that he doesn’t really discuss, or even WANT to discuss, anything. He’s just waiting around for a chance to slip in any little old insult that he can. He appears to think it’s clever.

Mary: I cannot change my perceptions, nor should I, simply to please others who may have dissimilar views.

Hitman @ 4:14

” ‘The sad part is that Walsh, and conservative Republicans who think as he does, are not even aware of the limitations of their thinking’- JB”

Those are my words you quoted, Hitman, not the words of Jay Bookman, as he stated.

And, yes, I do think that it is a “limitation” to think of others in simply defined “boxes” of categories, from which they cannot be excised, such as, their place of birth or their exterior appearances. It should be is up to us to see all others with a broader more humane vision, rather than narrower one, in order create harmony among all on our planet, in my opinion. That statement is not meant to offend anyone.
