GOP: The birther craze was Obama’s fault

You know, the shamelessness required to utter things like this is just mind-boggling.

“We’re borrowing four and a half billion dollars a day and this president is more worried about birth certificates, Oprah Winfrey and fundraisers at the Waldorf Astoria,” (RNC Chairman Reince) Priebus complained on “CNN Newsroom” Thursday, a day after the president released his long-form Hawaii birth certificate and then jetted to Chicago for a long-scheduled interview with the daytime queen of talk.

“It’s maddening and I just wish the president would engage in the real issues that are affecting America.”

After years in which members of Preibus’ party and its right-wing media remora complain bitterly that Obama has refused to release his “long-form” birth certificate, spinning absurd fantasies in which a large portion of the GOP base eagerly swallows, the president finally relents and forces release of documents that any rational person already knew existed.

And suddenly it’s the president who is making this an issue and a distraction?

It’s pitiful. Just pitiful. Do they actually expect people to believe such nonsense? Unbelievable.

Then again, given that so many were willing to believe the birther craziness in the first place, it’s not too far-fetched to believe they’ll buy this too.

I respectfully believe the thesis errs. I am on a lot of conservative mailing lists, and only one ever magnified the “birther” stuff before The Donald decided to ride that horse. So far as I can tell, it was only leftists who kept the issue alive – witness the numerous essays on that topic by our host and his fellow traveler Ms. Tucker. I believe the leftist motivation to keep “birtherism” alive is the same Alinsky-ite strategy that caused them to wallow in the disparagement of the “tea baggers.” It is all a distraction, to avoid discussing the abject and foreseeable failure of “the stimulus” and to avoid discussing the horrific consequences looming from ObamaCare.

“Obama’s birth certificate proves Americans are powerless”–April 27, 2011

That’s the heading over at PUMAS Unleashed…you know…the Draft Hillary group? Hillary’s a Democrat as are her supporters. No?

http://pumasunleashed.wordpress.com/2011/04/28/obama%E2%80%99s-birth-certificate-proves-americans-are-powerless/

Our government and Fourth Estate failed America in this case. We, the people of the United States, had a right to resolution on this crucial issue, but no one did anything about it. In the end, the White House only relented because the administration knew it could cost votes and a much more expensive 2012 presidential run for Mr. Obama.
Money, not democracy was the currency that brought this issue to a final resolution.

The Fourth Estate? It’s the media they’re blaming.

“Considering the history of the constitutional qualifications provision, the common use and meaning of the phrase “natural-born subject” in England and in the Colonies in the 1700s, the clause’s apparent intent, the subsequent action of the first Congress in enacting the Naturalization Act of 1790 (expressly defining the term “natural born citizen” to include a person born abroad to parents who are United States citizens), as well as subsequent Supreme Court dicta, it appears that the most logical inferences would indicate that the phrase “natural born Citizen” would mean a person who is entitled to U.S. citizenship “at birth” or “by birth”.[17]”

Since mama was a US citizen, Obama is a US citizen.

Currently, Title 8 of the U.S. Code fills in the gaps left by the Constitution. Section 1401 defines the following as people who are “citizens of the United States at birth:”

Anyone born inside the United States *
Any Indian or Eskimo born in the United States, provided being a citizen of the U.S. does not impair the person’s status as a citizen of the tribe
Any one born outside the United States, both of whose parents are citizens of the U.S., as long as one parent has lived in the U.S.
Any one born outside the United States, if one parent is a citizen and lived in the U.S. for at least one year and the other parent is a U.S. national
*******Any one born in a U.S. possession, if one parent is a citizen and lived in the U.S. for at least one year*********
Any one found in the U.S. under the age of five, whose parentage cannot be determined, as long as proof of non-citizenship is not provided by age 21
******* Any one born outside the United States, if one parent is an alien and as long as the other parent is a citizen of the U.S. who lived in the U.S. for at least five years (with military and diplomatic service included in this time)*******

That’s the million dollar question that will be argued in court endlessly. The argument is that according to the precedent set, a person born in the US of a non US citizen is a US citizen, but not a natural born citizen and does not qualify to be president. It appears Obama’s father was not a US Citizen which would make Obama a citizen, but not a natural born citizen.

Whether he’s voted out in 2012 or leaves in 2016, I think either event will occur before the rest of that debate is settled in the courts. However, I do think it needs to be settled so we don’t have to repeat this discussion in the future.

Mick,

Are you denying that Obama has added nearly 5 trillion in new debt? Are you also denying that his fiscal deficit for FY 2011 is 1.65 trillion and that is own administration forecasts deficits through the year 2020.

As for oil big oil does not set the prices- OPEC does. And for the cost and inflation regarding oil you are incorrect the president does in fact bare a great deal of responsibility. We purchase oil in dollar denominations. With the vast amount of money printing and the ever worsening debt crisis our dollar becomes weaker and weaker and thus oil becomes more and more expensive when bought in weaker and weaker denominated U.S. dollars. This money printing and excessive debt accumulation in 2 1/2 years very squarely falls on Obama’s head.

He is directly responsible for it. And the fact that the Saudis flat out ignored his plea to pump more oil and instead cut production shows you that world’s leaders do not fear the U.S. and absolutely do not respect us with this weakling in the oval office.

Of course they do, Jay. For some time now, the Republicans have been using the brainwashing and propaganda methods taught to them by their supporters in the advertising industry. I had a nice bowl of leftover gumbo with some sausage cut up in it. You must have missed my “political correctness” rant from Jay’s circumcision blog yesterday….go take a look at page 3(3:36 and 3:43). :)

Never said they were but during the previous administration they were kept off the books. If we don’t get out of these wars, yes they will contribute mightily to our undoing….

Larry and other wingnuts,

Don’t you realize that just because YOU think he’s doing a poor job of running the country, it does not mean that everyone does? If YOU want to write a column about specifics of what he’s done to ruin the country, why don’t you? While I won’t speak for Jay, I do not feel that Obama is doing a bad job as POTUS, and maybe, just maybe, the person who runs this blog feels the same way and that is why he does not write about it.

And Peadawg,

A few Hilary supporters may have started this, but it certainly wasn’t them that has kept this alive for two years. Or even two weeks.

My name’s not Fred, I’m perfectly happy to engage you and *you* should talk, drive-by.

“There’s nothing calm, cool and collected about Trump, but he has been talking about things other than Obama’s birth certificate…”

If there’s a clip in there, I can’t see it. Got another link, please?

“But isn’t being born from an American mother qualify you as “natural born”?”

Not if you’re too dark.

Besides, we don’t need some liberal-activist judge with their fancypants talk, WhirledNutDaily should decide the meaning of “natural born.”

“A few Hilary supporters may have started this” – That’s the point I’ve tried to make to Jay all day but he just won’t believe it.

Normal — “Joe, I was stationed in Hawaii (Navy) for over five years. When were you there?”

I was at Schofield Barracks from ‘88-’92. We deployed a lot, but it was a pretty sweet place to be stationed, even when you only had a day or two off.

I do think it is disingenuous of you to keep harping on Hillary supporters as being the chief architects of this ridiculous conspiracy theory. You know that’s not true.

Bosch – what is his plan for reducing the deficit and don’t tell me just raise taxes because there aren’t enough rich people to bail us out.

What is his plan for Syria

What is his plan for Libya

What is his plan for reducing our dependance on foriegn oil other than keeping our tires inflated

What is his plan for funding his health care initiative

Keep drinking that leftwing kool aid

Yeap. It’s always amazing to me to see the people whine about why Jay doesn’t write about something he probably doesn’t believe — it’s the epitome of arrogance and well, just plain stupid.

Fred:

frankly think that they were a GOP front group that wanted Hillary nominated so that she’d help Republican turnout in the polls in November 2008.

Into conspiracy theories are ‘ya?

jay:

Yeah, sounds like Democrats to me all right.

Granted, Democrats have gone “all right” when it comes to Obama’s emulation of Bush 43.

Strange, that.
