I saw a great tweet earlier today:
“i honestly don’t care about a wedding where I wasn’t invited and doesn’t have an open bar.”
My sentiments exactly.
In fact, I got a kick out of the website of the Guardian in the UK. Today’s homepage is of course dominated by news and photos of the royal wedding, but the Guardian offers a convenient button labeled “Republicans click here,” Republicans in the British context meaning those who oppose the monarchy.
Click it, and poof! — you get a homepage with absolutely no mention of the Windsor-Mountbatten/Middleton ceremony. Like it never even happened.
Clearly, though, hundreds of millions if not billions don’t share my attitude. The confluence of princess fantasies, wedding porn, the lingering grip of the British Empire on the public imagination and a celebrity culture ensures it became a much-watched media extravaganza.
Given all that, I sifted through my memory banks for an appropriate song to kick off the evening’s festivities, and only one came to mind.
(Oh, and by the way, I’ve never been able to remember which of the two British princes was which. But after seeing some of today’s photos, I now have a mnemonic device: “One of them’s Harry. The other one isn’t.” Given his growing bald spot, then-King William might be asking President Trump for a few combover tips a few years from now.)
Here’s to you, Will and Kate:

Chuckling at all the people who have accused me of being cynical!!! While I do believe that marriage — in our society — is overrated and entered into frivolously or for selfish reasons more often than not, I have no problem celebrating (a) young people in love, or (b) people who want to celebrate a national symbol that we don’t happen to have. As such, I was up in the middle of the night with friends and mimosas, taking JOY in something that was (gee whiz) not about me!

The good thing is Kate has been in the picture long enough that she should know what she has gotten into, quite unlike Charles and Diane. True enough, the monarchy is an anachronism. Strange, huh? I think it’s because they have something we don’t: a living symbol, a figurehead. While the monarchy possesses no real political power (wisely choosing neutrality in politics), it does provide the people with a sense of history and continuity that we lack. Decades, wars, and leaders come and go, but they have a steady presence, a woman of rank and influence who, as far as they know, is looking out for them in a maternal sort of way. Because they are Brits, there is a sense of identity tied to it. It’s part of who they are.
Contrast that with us: 300 million orphaned half- and step-siblings, screaming “Bast@rd!” beating the *bleep* out of each other, fighting for a seat at the dinner table and whatever biscuits we can get if we kick the others out of the way. The nanosecond we elect a new President, nearly half the country hopes he will drop dead, the sooner the better. Heck, we can’t even agree that old people and helpless children should get medical care for crisesakes. We ARE the motherless, ill-bred bast@rds our forefathers wanted us to be. Sometimes it’s nice to peer into the window of a nice family and watch them be polite to each other….. or… something like that.

Good story.
When we were there, they were having an archeological dig under the cathedral and we talked our way into the catacombs. Really cool stuff.
There was one camera shot from the wedding this morning that a friend told me to watch. It was taken from the very top of the inside of the “cross” of the ceiling, and the shot started askew, but slowly turned to reveal the shape of the building as being a cross. that’s what I like about things like a Royal Wedding. It’s the human ceremony that is cryptic and mysterious. Humans have some very strange customs.

Roughly 3 quarters of this nation DIN”ET ORDER what is served at your pathetic dinner table………..and we don’t WANT it.
AND roughly 3 quaters of our population peer through the windows and LIKE what we see. It DOESNT include a government Beureaucrat.
How sick is an individual to claim that our nation is made up of 300 million orphans?
It is obvious that they are out there……………….Obama is president.

jt,
It was a metaphor for our multi-cultural, independence-minded, “every man for himself” political climate used to describe why some Americans are facinated by the British royals even though the monarchy contradicts our belief system. I’m sorry you are offended by things you don’t understand, like metaphors. Bless your heart.

Debt ceiling: More Democrats threaten to vote against raising borrowing limit
A growing number of Democrats are threatening to defy the White House over the national debt, joining Republican calls for deficit cuts as a requirement for consenting to lift the country’s borrowing limit.
The tension is the latest illustration of how the tea-party-infused GOP is driving the debate in Washington over federal spending. And it shows how the debt issue is testing the Obama administration’s clout as Democrats, particularly those from politically competitive states, resist White House arguments against setting conditions on legislation to raise the debt ceiling.

Well, this wedding was the biggest waste of time anybody could make. First, anybody with one eye could see the girl wasn’t in the Family Way so there was no need for a wedding. Second, there wasn’t a Baptist or Holiness preacher in sight. And third, it wasn’t a legal wedding. They left out the part where she promises to obey her husband. What’s next? Changing the wording to say, “If you get sick or poor, big guy, I’m outta here”?
Anyhow, it looks like another Friday night where the 15 year olds try to prove who knows the most about music. Bookman don’t even allow insults during this lovefest. I guess I’ll head up to Billy Bob’s to see what’ going on.

I agree the Brit. monarch is overrated. However, at they have a sense of community. It unites the people in their heritage (the good, the bad). It was a refreshing pause to see two young people in love and being celebrated as something all could identify. What do we have in this country to unite us? April 15–tax day? Memorial Day–? Well, that’s about it for national holidays and festival. The U.S. is a society too busy working to even notice! Did you see all the Brits allowed time off? Was a great day for them!

Yep. Just more class and wealth envy from the left. The cost of the police protection alone was 33 million to the British Taxpayer. But 2 billion freaking people watched. And the reality is that the monarchy is a huge moneymaker for the Brits. The amount of tourism dollars brought in by the desire to see Britain’s monarchial history such as Buckingham palace vastly exceeds the monarchy’s expense to the public trough. You would know that if you had a clue as to what you are talking about.

To all those who worry about expense, but are blind to the possibility of a profit… The UK government, the London governing council, and the Royal Family footed the bill for the wedding. The whole nation enjoyed the profits from tourism and royalties (no pun intended).
The British are quick to spot the opportunity for a profit by giving people what they want and when they want it. Their primary export is “intangibles”, like the Royal Wedding.

Don’t know what you are talking about in mass. I live in fla. Sorry but I reject the current version of the republican party completely. Does that mean I’m rabidly for the democratic party? Absolutely not. I really don’t have a choice here, the repubs started off this new millenium with a surplus and proceeded to squander it. The world was brought to the brink of collapse in 08. Now all these state governors that are republican want to finish the job and destroy the middle class once and for all. Those remaining will be the new serfs cheering on corporations because they have a job but no standard of living. That will be the result if the repubs get their way. Not to mention a nation of old timers with the worst health care in the world. A bleak future indeed, if the repubs get their way.

OK, Mick, time to put your logic cap on.
Census Bureau says that the percentage of poor people in the U.S. hasn’t changed statistically in the past 30 years (up or down a couple of points all the time).
Most libs claim that the middle class is shrinking. OK, let’s agree that it is.
If the poor haven’t increased and the middle class is shrinking, where did they go?
The only direction is up.
So, why do libs have a problem with people bettering themselves?

Valerie Plame is a liar. Plain and simple. Her own testimony and her own book prove it. End of story.
On March 16, 2007, Valerie Plame addressed this question in sworn testimony to Congress: “I did not recommend him. I did not suggest him. There was no nepotism involved. I did not have the authority…. It’s been borne out in the testimony during the Libby trial, and I can tell you that it just doesn’t square with the facts”. She then explains that while discussing the alleged Niger yellowcake inquiry by Vice President Cheney with an “upset” co-worker, “someone passed by — another officer heard this…And he suggested, ‘Well why don’t we send Joe?’…We went to my branch chief, or supervisor. My colleague suggested this idea…he (supervisor) asked me to draft a quick e-mail to the chief of our Counterproliferation Division, letting him know that this was — might happen.” She claims that she was not involved in recommending or sending him because an unknown Officer who “passed by” had “suggested” her husband to her first. Plame clearly states that recommendations, introductions, e-mails and promotion of this trip she put forth were not from her, they were from “someone” who “passed by”.[41][42][43]
In response to Plame’s testimony, Republican Senators Kit Bond, Orrin Hatch, Richard Burr submitted additional views to the Senate report that stated “Mrs. Wilson told the CIA Inspector General that she suggested her husband for the trip, she told our committee staff that she could not remember whether she did or her boss did, and told the House Committee, emphatically, that she did not suggest him.”[44] Also in the additional views is the full text of an e-mail message sent by Plame on February 12, 2002 to the Directorate of Operations at CPD, in which she writes that Joe Wilson “may be in a position to assist” the CIA’s inquiries into the Niger reports.[45]
In a review of Plame’s memoir, Fair Game: My Life as a Spy, My Betrayal by the White House, Alan Cooperman writes for the Washington Post that “by her own account, Valerie Wilson neither came up with the idea [of sending Joe Wilson to Niger] nor approved it. But she did participate in the process and flogged her husband’s credentials.” Plame writes in her book that Joe Wilson was “too upset to listen” to her explanations after learning years later about the February 12, 2002 email she had sent up the chain of command outlining his credentials.[46]

We do not believe Americans and most of Europe understand the impact of the European banking crisis. The meeting in Athens next week to restructure Greek debt probably will trigger a EU-wide banking crisis, which we have been warning about for the past two years. We do not see Greeks, Irish or Portuguese living in poverty for the next 50 years just to make sure the bankers get their money back, which the bankers created out of thin air. Greek debt to GDP is 150% and no country has ever survived such debt. There has to be default. In the wings Ireland, Portugal and Spain are watching intently to see which way they should fall. On the other side of the debate Germans and Finns do not want to spend one more euro on this problem. Let them default and leave the euro. They should have never been in the euro in the first place. The EU is fighting with Ireland as well over corporate taxation. If Ireland losses that advantage they’ll go back to growing potatoes. Greek Parliament will not accept more austerity, Ireland may walk away from bailing out the banks and Portugal may just give up and default. Next week will be an exciting one that may change Europe forever.
Both the European, eurozone, and US banking systems are insolvent and nothing can be done to save them. Both systems have to default. That is why we say sooner or later a meeting will be held where all currencies will be devalued and revalued and there would be a multilateral default and debt settlement. It would also be an opportune time to implement a new world reserve currency or indexed trading unit, which in order to be acceptable would have to contain a 25% gold backing, which would force other currencies to adopt gold baking as well. The new setting for an official gold price would be at a level 4 to 5 times today’s levels. Incidentally, it has been found historically that a bimetallic standard does not work.
In this process European countries would return to their own central bank structures and the US could eliminate the Fed and return to constitutional money. No more slush funds and TARP for the favorite few elitists corporations. The great orgy of theft from the American people for the past 100 years would be over. Then it would be time for the show trials where the guilty would go to jail and all their family’s wealth confiscated. Those who committed treason would be hung. Corporate welfare for the rich would come to an end and their control of Congress would end as lobbying and campaign contributions would become part of history. Derivatives and other uncollateralized vehicles would be settled and eliminated permanently from the financial scene. The crime syndicate that had controlled our nation would have been destroyed and disbanded.
Worth the read for ambitious individuals — especially if you hold stocks.

Attorney General John Ashcroft referred the matter to the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Special Counsel, directed by Patrick Fitzgerald, who convened a grand jury. The CIA leak grand jury investigation did not result in the indictment or conviction of anyone for any crime in connection with the leak itself. However, Libby was indicted on one count of obstruction of justice, one count of perjury, and three counts making false statements to the grand jury and federal investigators on October 28, 2005. Libby resigned hours after the indictment.
Mick,
Do you understand the above words? Nobody was indicted or convicted for the leak itself. Libby was convicted of obstruction, perjury, etc. but not for the leak itself.
The Wilsons also brought a civil law suit against Libby, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, and Richard Armitage, in Wilson v. Cheney.[26][27] On July 19, 2007, Wilson v. Cheney was dismissed in United States District Court for the District of Columbia.[28] On behalf of the Wilsons, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed an appeal of the U.S. District Court’s decision the following day.[29]
The civil suit was dismissed on July 19, 2007. In dismissing the suit, United States District Judge John D. Bates states: But there can be no serious dispute that the act of rebutting public criticism, such as that levied by Mr. Wilson against the Bush Administration’s handling of prewar foreign intelligence, by speaking with members of the press is within the scope of defendants’ duties as high-level Executive Branch officials. Thus, the alleged tortious conduct, namely the disclosure of Mrs. Wilson’s status as a covert operative, was incidental to the kind of conduct that defendants were employed to perform.[30]

Roughly 2,000 students have to decide by Sunday whether to accept a spot at Harvard. Here’s some advice: Forget Harvard. If you want to earn big bucks and retire young, you’re better off becoming a California prison guard.
The job might not sound glamorous, but a brochure from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitations boasts that it “has been called ‘the greatest entry-level job in California’—and for good reason. Our officers earn a great salary, and a retirement package you just can’t find in private industry. We even pay you to attend our academy.” That’s right—instead of paying more than $200,000 to attend Harvard, you could earn $3,050 a month at cadet academy.
It gets better.

It dawned on me last night that w/o the huge deficit spending we would be in a depression.
Something the GOP doesn’t want you to know: Bush’s stiimulus (deficit) has been 3 times more than Obama’s over the last 2 years.
Maybe it would be best to bite the bullet and NOT raise the debt ceiling. Wouldn’t that force the administration to brng ALL the troops home and get rid of the non-essential federal workforce? Many of them would be eligible for retirement and SS. Obsolete weapons’ systems could also be retired immediately. The tax changes enacted during the Bush administration could be moved back up to expire next year. We smiply must increase revenue or the interest on the debt is going to consume every new tax dollar generated by growth. For it to work corporate America would have to step up to the plate and put us back to work.

Our President Bush’s deficit over the last two-plus years is zip.
Obozo proposes $1.5 trillion deficits every year and added nearly $900 billion to President Bush’s last deficit in the 2009 budget with his slush fund for public employee unions (sometimes laughingly referred to as his “stimulus”). Obozo could have reduced the deficit in 2009 spending if he wanted to, but instead he decided to explode the deficit even though the recession ended in June 2009.

Where is the liberal outrage? I was outraged when Bush created this war. And now, I am especially outraged now that Obama is in control because he promised to bring it all to an end. The numbers of dead American soldiers still continue to stack up yet Obama does nothing. And his liberal base turns its head the other way because god forbid they critisize him in an election year.
In 2008, Obama promised his sycophants everything, but he hasn’t delivered on any of them and yet his base continues to support him. That can only mean that, amongst his base, politics has now surplanted their own personnal integrity. Obama could, right now, declare martial law and an end to free elections in this country and his lunatic base would still support him. That is how far gone they really are. The generation of “me” is upon us and it will destroy us. Liberals espouse to be free thinkers but now they have thrown that aside in order to support “the cause”. There are no free thinkers in the Democratic party anymore. They have become nothing but mindless followers.

Was it the glorifying of the government having control of so much of the lives of the german people and the DNC constant striving to control more of ours?

1. We are borrowing 40 cents of every dollar we are spending. That means, simplified, we need to cut 40% of the fed. govt. just to break even.
2. To pay down the $14.3 T fed. debt, we need to cut another 10% of the fed. govt. That means we need to cut the fed. govt. in ONE HALF.
3. No one is buying our debt any longer. China is selling off our debt. Japan will need to sell off our debt. PIMCO, the largest buyer of our debt, sold off our debt. We have been buying our own debt thru the Federal Reserve. That ends in June. That is why your groceries & part of the reason your gas is inflated. Real investors will be buying our debt in June, which means interest rates will rise, which means our economy is at stake of going into a depression.

The financial crisis commission had until 12/15/10 to report but the legislation to prevent another financial crisis was passed last summer.
Anyway, as usual, the Democrats & Republicans on the commission could not agree as to what caused the financial crisis. Therefore, there are 3, that is THREE, reports.

It’s a weird thing. They only watch the liberal media, so they get a good dose of propaganda to keep them going. They see the jabs at people like Trump and they get to be part of the “cool” people and be a part of the people making fun of someone.
I watched Meet the Press this morning and Gregory interviewed the guy from Sat. night Live who appeared at the press Dinner. Gregory asked him what he thought of the Republicans that have been on the show. He said that they all just seemed to be glad to be invited to the party.
I think that sums it up. Liberals desperately want to be part of the cool kids they want to be part of the “hip” group that get to make fun of everyone else.
When it comes down to it, its kind of pathetic.

I hear ya. So nearly 2 1/2 years into Obama’s reign just as I predicted you want to spend time blaming Bush and not talking about the fact that Obama’s policies have significantly hurt the nation further. Certainly Bush deserves his criticisms. The problem here though is that Obama made things exponentially worse and now we are looking at a possible double dip recession. So instead of talking about what we are doing in the present or in the past year or 2 you want to talk about 2007- 4 freaking years ago? Seriously? 2007-2009? 2 1/2 to 4 years ago is what you want to focus on?

The scary thing about the libsheeple and their “blame America first mentality” is that they think that other countries and peoples such as these thugs in Egypt are morally equivalent to this great nation. They do not believe in American exceptionalism. They do not think that we are any better than these savage men who not only rape women but hang gays for being gay, throw acid in women’s eyes, cut their noses and ears off, etc. And then they talk sometimes about what a sexist, religious driven “theocracy” pushed by the Christian right that we live in here in America all because we can’t buy beer on Sunday in a store. It really is quite remarkable.

The Obama economy- inflation, government dependency, etc.
Wages: Perhaps the most insidious factor of our current inflationary spiral is the fact that while all these other items are costing more, household purchasing power is shrinking because wages and salaries aren’t keeping up. While the consumer price index rose 2.7% in March to clock the fastest 12-month pace since December 2009, a staggering 18.3% of per personal income is now made up of government assistance like unemployment and food stamps while wages account for just 50.5%. That’s the lowest since the government started keeping records in 1929.

I’m out for the evening but I’ll leave the libsheeple with one more byproduct of the community organizer’s economy.
Gasoline: The average U.S. price of a gallon of gasoline has jumped about 12 cents over the last two weeks to $3.88, with the highest average price for gas tallying $4.27 in Chicago. This is with oil at $112 a barrel – if crude prices reach 2008 peak levels of $145, four bucks for gas may seem cheap.

It’s terrifying and depressing. I need to get to work. I have a huge week coming up and last week was huge. Lots of projects and not nearly the time to do them.
No one pays anything for work now days. 5 years ago, last week and this week would have made me 20 grand. Now, I will be lucky to make $1,000 and after buying $200 worth of groceries and $75 for a fill up, inflated healthcare is due this month. We don’t use air conditioning any more and I’m thinking about cutting off the cable.
the thing that gets me is liberals whined for six years about Bush and nothing actually affected their life. Now everyone is having a horrible time. Inflation is exploding and gas prices are going nuts. It began with the 1992 GSE Act & Clinton’s “national homeownership strategy.”

Delaware is one of dozens of universities that have eliminated low-profile men’s teams like wrestling, gymnastics and swimming in an effort, the universities say, to comply with Title IX, the federal law that bans sex discrimination in education.
Now, members of the men’s track team have taken an unusual step of their own: they have filed a complaint with the federal Office for Civil Rights, which oversees Title IX, alleging that Delaware is discriminating against its male athletes. The office decided to look into the complaint, and last week, the university agreed to enter into mediation with the track team to try to resolve the issue.

One man reminded Guinta that he won the congressional seat last year in a contentious battle in which some Democrats were insulted and threatened.
“You didn’t lift a finger” to stop them, the man told Guinta. “It’s a little late for decorum, sir.”
On such notes will Congress regroup this week to confront the nation’s fiscal problems

As I remember, Obama came out with his 10-year budget & what he SAID differed from what was on page 171. Even the alphabet media questioned what he SAID verses what was in his budget. He increased the federal debt by $7.2 T but the CBO said that the revenue figures were overstated & that the debt would increase by $9.5T.
Then Obama came out with his State of the (Labor) Union Speech, where he said that he wanted to invest (translated: spend) in infrastructure (translated: unions) & education (translated: teachers unions).
Then he came out with another something or other to combat Paul Ryan & the GOP, which I have yet to understand.

Good thing Obama stopped all combat in Iraq.
April was the worse month since 2009 for American deaths………………ELEVEN.
What happened to all the REAL patriots?………………….like this man.
Replied Missouri governor Claiborne Fox Jackson when Lincoln asked for troops to invade neighboring states and war against fellow Americans: “Your requisition is illegal, unconstitutional, revolutionary, inhuman, diabolical and cannot be complied with.”
