Did I hear something about a wedding?
I saw a great tweet earlier today:
“i honestly don’t care about a wedding where I wasn’t invited and doesn’t have an open bar.”
My sentiments exactly.
In fact, I got a kick out of the website of the Guardian in the UK. Today’s homepage is of course dominated by news and photos of the royal wedding, but the Guardian offers a convenient button labeled “Republicans click here,” Republicans in the British context meaning those who oppose the monarchy.
Click it, and poof! — you get a homepage with absolutely no mention of the Windsor-Mountbatten/Middleton ceremony. Like it never even happened.
Clearly, though, hundreds of millions if not billions don’t share my attitude. The confluence of princess fantasies, wedding porn, the lingering grip of the British Empire on the public imagination and a celebrity culture ensures it became a much-watched media extravaganza.
Given all that, I sifted through my memory banks for an appropriate song to kick off the evening’s festivities, and only one came to mind.
(Oh, and by the way, I’ve never been able to remember which of the two British princes was which. But after seeing some of today’s photos, I now have a mnemonic device: “One of them’s Harry. The other one isn’t.” Given his growing bald spot, then-King William might be asking President Trump for a few combover tips a few years from now.)

Chuckling at all the people who have accused me of being cynical!!! While I do believe that marriage — in our society — is overrated and entered into frivolously or for selfish reasons more often than not, I have no problem celebrating (a) young people in love, or (b) people who want to celebrate a national symbol that we don’t happen to have. As such, I was up in the middle of the night with friends and mimosas, taking JOY in something that was (gee whiz) not about me!

William does have a job. Royal Air Force, if I remember right. The good thing is Kate has been in the picture long enough that she should know what she has gotten into, quite unlike Charles and Diane. True enough, the monarchy is an anachronism. But American, with our short history, should not be so quick to sneer. It seems like a good thing to have an institution that reaches back centuries.

While the monarchy possesses no real political power (wisely choosing neutrality in politics), it does provide the people with a sense of history and continuity that we lack. Decades, wars, and leaders come and go, but they have a steady presence, a woman of rank and influence who, as far as they know, is looking out for them in a maternal sort of way. Because they are Brits, there is a sense of identity tied to it. It’s part of who they are.
Contrast that with us: 300 million orphaned half- and step-siblings, screaming “Bast@rd!” beating the *bleep* out of each other, fighting for a seat at the dinner table and whatever biscuits we can get if we kick the others out of the way. The nanosecond we elect a new President, nearly half the country hopes he will drop dead, the sooner the better. Heck, we can’t even agree that old people and helpless children should get medical care for crisesakes. We ARE the motherless, ill-bred bast@rds our forefathers wanted us to be. Sometimes it’s nice to peer into the window of a nice family and watch them be polite to each other….. or… something like that.

Matti, well put. I’ll have to remember that. I’ve always thought the royal family was kind of cool, for some reason, and your right, that’s it — I never thought it would fly over here, but that’s because we are who we are.

Good story.
When we were there, they were having an archeological dig under the cathedral and we talked our way into the catacombs. Really cool stuff.
There was one camera shot from the wedding this morning that a friend told me to watch. It was taken from the very top of the inside of the “cross” of the ceiling, and the shot started askew, but slowly turned to reveal the shape of the building as being a cross. that’s what I like about things like a Royal Wedding. It’s the human ceremony that is cryptic and mysterious. Humans have some very strange customs.

Well, this wedding was the biggest waste of time anybody could make. First, anybody with one eye could see the girl wasn’t in the Family Way so there was no need for a wedding. Second, there wasn’t a Baptist or Holiness preacher in sight. And third, it wasn’t a legal wedding. They left out the part where she promises to obey her husband. What’s next? Changing the wording to say, “If you get sick or poor, big guy, I’m outta here”?
Anyhow, it looks like another Friday night where the 15 year olds try to prove who knows the most about music. Bookman don’t even allow insults during this lovefest. I guess I’ll head up to Billy Bob’s to see what’ going on.

Valerie Plame is a liar. Plain and simple. Her own testimony and her own book prove it. End of story.
On March 16, 2007, Valerie Plame addressed this question in sworn testimony to Congress: “I did not recommend him. I did not suggest him. There was no nepotism involved. I did not have the authority…. It’s been borne out in the testimony during the Libby trial, and I can tell you that it just doesn’t square with the facts”. She then explains that while discussing the alleged Niger yellowcake inquiry by Vice President Cheney with an “upset” co-worker, “someone passed by — another officer heard this…And he suggested, ‘Well why don’t we send Joe?’…We went to my branch chief, or supervisor. My colleague suggested this idea…he (supervisor) asked me to draft a quick e-mail to the chief of our Counterproliferation Division, letting him know that this was — might happen.” She claims that she was not involved in recommending or sending him because an unknown Officer who “passed by” had “suggested” her husband to her first. Plame clearly states that recommendations, introductions, e-mails and promotion of this trip she put forth were not from her, they were from “someone” who “passed by”.[41][42][43]
In response to Plame’s testimony, Republican Senators Kit Bond, Orrin Hatch, Richard Burr submitted additional views to the Senate report that stated “Mrs. Wilson told the CIA Inspector General that she suggested her husband for the trip, she told our committee staff that she could not remember whether she did or her boss did, and told the House Committee, emphatically, that she did not suggest him.”[44] Also in the additional views is the full text of an e-mail message sent by Plame on February 12, 2002 to the Directorate of Operations at CPD, in which she writes that Joe Wilson “may be in a position to assist” the CIA’s inquiries into the Niger reports.[45]
In a review of Plame’s memoir, Fair Game: My Life as a Spy, My Betrayal by the White House, Alan Cooperman writes for the Washington Post that “by her own account, Valerie Wilson neither came up with the idea [of sending Joe Wilson to Niger] nor approved it. But she did participate in the process and flogged her husband’s credentials.” Plame writes in her book that Joe Wilson was “too upset to listen” to her explanations after learning years later about the February 12, 2002 email she had sent up the chain of command outlining his credentials.[46]

We do not believe Americans and most of Europe understand the impact of the European banking crisis. The meeting in Athens next week to restructure Greek debt probably will trigger a EU-wide banking crisis, which we have been warning about for the past two years. We do not see Greeks, Irish or Portuguese living in poverty for the next 50 years just to make sure the bankers get their money back, which the bankers created out of thin air. Greek debt to GDP is 150% and no country has ever survived such debt. There has to be default. In the wings Ireland, Portugal and Spain are watching intently to see which way they should fall. On the other side of the debate Germans and Finns do not want to spend one more euro on this problem. Let them default and leave the euro. They should have never been in the euro in the first place. The EU is fighting with Ireland as well over corporate taxation. If Ireland losses that advantage they’ll go back to growing potatoes. Greek Parliament will not accept more austerity, Ireland may walk away from bailing out the banks and Portugal may just give up and default. Next week will be an exciting one that may change Europe forever.
Both the European, eurozone, and US banking systems are insolvent and nothing can be done to save them. Both systems have to default. That is why we say sooner or later a meeting will be held where all currencies will be devalued and revalued and there would be a multilateral default and debt settlement. It would also be an opportune time to implement a new world reserve currency or indexed trading unit, which in order to be acceptable would have to contain a 25% gold backing, which would force other currencies to adopt gold baking as well. The new setting for an official gold price would be at a level 4 to 5 times today’s levels. Incidentally, it has been found historically that a bimetallic standard does not work.
In this process European countries would return to their own central bank structures and the US could eliminate the Fed and return to constitutional money. No more slush funds and TARP for the favorite few elitists corporations. The great orgy of theft from the American people for the past 100 years would be over. Then it would be time for the show trials where the guilty would go to jail and all their family’s wealth confiscated. Those who committed treason would be hung. Corporate welfare for the rich would come to an end and their control of Congress would end as lobbying and campaign contributions would become part of history. Derivatives and other uncollateralized vehicles would be settled and eliminated permanently from the financial scene. The crime syndicate that had controlled our nation would have been destroyed and disbanded.
Worth the read for ambitious individuals — especially if you hold stocks.

It dawned on me last night that w/o the huge deficit spending we would be in a depression.
Something the GOP doesn’t want you to know: Bush’s stiimulus (deficit) has been 3 times more than Obama’s over the last 2 years.
Maybe it would be best to bite the bullet and NOT raise the debt ceiling. Wouldn’t that force the administration to brng ALL the troops home and get rid of the non-essential federal workforce? Many of them would be eligible for retirement and SS. Obsolete weapons’ systems could also be retired immediately. The tax changes enacted during the Bush administration could be moved back up to expire next year. We smiply must increase revenue or the interest on the debt is going to consume every new tax dollar generated by growth. For it to work corporate America would have to step up to the plate and put us back to work.

Where is the liberal outrage? I was outraged when Bush created this war. And now, I am especially outraged now that Obama is in control because he promised to bring it all to an end. The numbers of dead American soldiers still continue to stack up yet Obama does nothing. And his liberal base turns its head the other way because god forbid they critisize him in an election year.
In 2008, Obama promised his sycophants everything, but he hasn’t delivered on any of them and yet his base continues to support him. That can only mean that, amongst his base, politics has now surplanted their own personnal integrity. Obama could, right now, declare martial law and an end to free elections in this country and his lunatic base would still support him. That is how far gone they really are. The generation of “me” is upon us and it will destroy us. Liberals espouse to be free thinkers but now they have thrown that aside in order to support “the cause”. Let me explain to you liberal thinkers what is happening in America today:
1. We are borrowing 40 cents of every dollar we are spending. That means, simplified, we need to cut 40% of the fed. govt. just to break even.
2. To pay down the $14.3 T fed. debt, we need to cut another 10% of the fed. govt. That means we need to cut the fed. govt. in ONE HALF.
3. No one is buying our debt any longer. China is selling off our debt. Japan will need to sell off our debt. PIMCO, the largest buyer of our debt, sold off our debt. We have been buying our own debt thru the Federal Reserve. That ends in June. That is why your groceries & part of the reason your gas is inflated. Real investors will be buying our debt in June, which means interest rates will rise, which means our economy is at stake of going into a depression.

Anyway, as usual, the Democrats & Republicans on the commission could not agree as to what caused the financial crisis. Therefore, there are 3, that is THREE, reports.

I watched Meet the Press this morning and Gregory interviewed the guy from Sat. night Live who appeared at the press Dinner. Gregory asked him what he thought of the Republicans that have been on the show. He said that they all just seemed to be glad to be invited to the party.

It’s terrifying and depressing. I need to get to work. I have a huge week coming up and last week was huge. Lots of projects and not nearly the time to do them.
No one pays anything for work now days. 5 years ago, last week and this week would have made me 20 grand. Now, I will be lucky to make $1,000 and after buying $200 worth of groceries and $75 for a fill up, inflated healthcare is due this month. We don’t use air conditioning any more and I’m thinking about cutting off the cable.
the thing that gets me is liberals whined for six years about Bush and nothing actually affected their life. Now everyone is having a horrible time. Inflation is exploding and gas prices are going nuts. We are watching the Middle east being taken over by the thugs of the Muslim Brotherhood while we are entering yet another war and Obama’s approval numbers are still in the 40s. The propaganda arm of the DNC is very, very good.

Well, I just checked in here and sure enough, the libruls are blasting My President and godly Republicans. All I know is, I was just a sheetrock hanger and mortar mixer before My President took over in 2001. Just a couple months after that I got a great job as a beer truck driver. If this Obama keeps driving us into a depression I guess they’ll take my beer truck away and make me drive a forklift in the warehouse.
We need another Tax Cut real bad. But we won’t get one unless we beat Obama next year. Just mark my words, the minute us Republicans take over everything will be great. Oh, we’ll still be in the hole by $12 trillion and there won’t be any jobs, but everything will be great and our troubles won’t seem to be near as bad. At least they won’t when we put our spin on them.

It began with the 1992 GSE Act & Clinton’s “national homeownership strategy.”
There’s much blame to go around. Bush advanced the program although Reps. tried to rein in the GSEs in ‘03 & ‘05.
The initiative in the ’90s was the catalyst that led to the disaster.

Then Obama came out with his State of the (Labor) Union Speech, where he said that he wanted to invest (translated: spend) in infrastructure (translated: unions) & education (translated: teachers unions).
Then he came out with another something or other to combat Paul Ryan & the GOP, which I have yet to understand.

So gas prices continue to soar, food prices are skyrocketing, the US dollar continues to plummet (which is tied for the two aforementioned), Obama has no domestic energy policy, Gitmo is still open, we are now in a third conflict in the Middle East, Boeing wanted to move to South Carolina but Obama’s union henchmen mandated they stay in Washington, and jobs continue to go overseas.
