No circumstance to circumscribe the circumcised

The political quirks of San Francisco have made it a favorite target of conservatives, but I’ve never been tempted to join in the sport. I mean, sure, the folks in Baghdad by the Bay can be a little out there at times, but if you don’t like it, you don’t have to move there, right?

It’s still a great city to visit, and if fate dictated that I had to live the rest of my days looking out over Fisherman’s Wharf and the Golden Gate Bridge, I guess I could probably live with that.

But still:

“Will a circumcision ban in San Francisco make, um, the final cut and appear before voters this November?

Proponents of the ban took 12,265 signatures to the Department of Elections today and should learn within a month whether 7,168 of them indeed came from registered city voters. If so, the city will have another one of its classic only-in-San Francisco measures to debate.

Wearing pins reading “May the foreskin be with you,” the backers of the ban gathered at City Hall to turn in their signatures. Then they told reporters more than anybody ever wanted to know about the increasingly controversial procedure….

The ban would outlaw circumcision in the city on any male under 18 years old – even for religious reasons. Breaking the law would count as a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 and jail time for up to a year. Opponents say the ballot measure would never stand up in court because it violates the freedom of religion clause of the U.S. Constitution.”

Or as Rod Stewart would put it:

More on JFK:

In his 1963 State of the Union, he proposed substantial tax reform and reduction, in income tax rates, from the current range of 20-90% to a range of 14-65%; he proposed a reduction in the corporate tax rates from 52 to 47%

And the results of his policies on taxes:

The economy turned around and prospered during the Kennedy administration. GDP expanded by an average of 5.5% from early 1961 to late 1963,[141] while inflation remained steady at around 1% and unemployment eased;[142][143] industrial production rose by 15% and motor vehicle sales leapt by 40%.[144] This rate of growth in GDP and industry continued until around 1966, and has yet to be repeated for such a sustained period of time

Good little liberal : “Liberalism doesn’t stop. Think up a bunch of crazy ideas, They are pushed, politicians see a way to gain power and control and they are passed. So do liberals stop? No. So the ideas get crazier and crazier. ”

What’s a liberal GLL? Do you realize that you yourself are a liberal? And that being the case, you’d do well to show some respect towards the intellectual tradition from which you come. If you wish to critique it, that’s fine. But when to attempt to do so without showing respect to that tradition, you make a fool of yourself.

Intellectual curiosity has little to do with political liberalism. Doesn’t it bother you that the vast majority of the stances of modern liberals are Orwellian in nature? They run away from individualism and run toward dependence on a more and more controlling government. Is that what you want?

GOP pivots on ‘birther’ questions, blames Obama for media attention

Republican leaders on Thursday slammed President Obama’s release of his detailed birth certificate as a distraction from the nation’s real concerns and attempted to point the finger at him for bringing heightened media attention to it.

Lemme get this straight. For 2-3 years, fringe elements of your party drum up this crap day in and day out. Instead of putting your foot down, you parse words to allow the controversy to fester. Once the low din becomes an Cat 5 Hurricane, Obama shows his birth certificate to shut the conversation down. Once he proves people to be the jackasses everyone else already knew, you now come out and try to blame Obama for sh*t your fringe wouldn’t let die?????

Ok, GLL, suit yourself. Delude yourself if you want, but you’d do well to pay more attention to the words you use. For example, when you suggest that you care about your family, but not the lazy sods who sponge, what good is that if my family can’t find housing or live safely? Even if your family is fortunate and can afford to buy your own protection, what good does it do you to have to live behind an armed fortress because the community around you (the “collective”) that you’ve abandoned has gone to seed. So to handle this problem, what normally happens is my family and your family come together and recognize how they mutually benefit from safety, so they start community institutions that make life civilized.

My guess is if you really lived in a society where those things were lacking, you would not welcome it.

It’s not my job to be responsible for people who won’t be responsible for themselves. I don’t live in a gated community, but I live in a community where people live that i trust. People of all races and of many nations. I contribute through my church for the well being of others. But that’s my choice, not yours.

Why would you trust politicians to take care of the unfortunate when it is to their advantage to keep those people down? Look at the Great Society. It is not life long poverty. It is generational poverty.

Your ideas are heart felt. Of that I am sure. But they simply don’t work because you are leaving the emplimentation to people who profit from your money and not from the advancement of the people that you want to help. Look at the RESULTS. Not the PROMISES.

Think!! It’s like the drilling thing in the US. Liberals want to stop drilling because of environmental concerns. But we need the oil so other countries are assigned the dirty work of drilling, but they don’t have the strict standards that we have so what happens? They drill the way we did in 1900. They pollute like crazy, so what was the result of the liberals that stomped their feet and insisted that we didn’t drill here? It caused MUCH MORE POLLUTION.
