No circumstance to circumscribe the circumcised

The political quirks of San Francisco have made it a favorite target of conservatives, but I’ve never been tempted to join in the sport. I mean, sure, the folks in Baghdad by the Bay can be a little out there at times, but if you don’t like it, you don’t have to move there, right?

It’s still a great city to visit, and if fate dictated that I had to live the rest of my days looking out over Fisherman’s Wharf and the Golden Gate Bridge, I guess I could probably live with that.

But still:

“Will a circumcision ban in San Francisco make, um, the final cut and appear before voters this November?

Proponents of the ban took 12,265 signatures to the Department of Elections today and should learn within a month whether 7,168 of them indeed came from registered city voters. If so, the city will have another one of its classic only-in-San Francisco measures to debate.

Wearing pins reading “May the foreskin be with you,” the backers of the ban gathered at City Hall to turn in their signatures. Then they told reporters more than anybody ever wanted to know about the increasingly controversial procedure….

The ban would outlaw circumcision in the city on any male under 18 years old – even for religious reasons. Breaking the law would count as a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 and jail time for up to a year. Opponents say the ballot measure would never stand up in court because it violates the freedom of religion clause of the U.S. Constitution.”

Or as Rod Stewart would put it:

Why can’t we just let the kid grow up and decide for himself if he would like a chunk of his penis cut off? Most of the men in Europe aren’t cut and they seem to be getting along just fine. Sure there are rare infections, but we can deal with those on a case by case basis. There is no other body part that can be legally removed without the person’s consent and without pressing medical need.

Pro-choice means it’s ok with you for a woman to have an abortion, correct? If I’m wrong let me know. So to the politically-correct-pansies out there it’s just called pro-choice. For those who couldn’t give a fat baby’s d*k about being politically correct, it’s called pro-abortion. What’s that saying…you can put lipstick on a pig and it’s still a pig?

Are these worries justified? On the plus side, it is hard to think of any large country with as many inherent long-term advantages as America: what would China give to have a Silicon Valley? Or Germany an Ivy League? But it is also plain that the United States does indeed have long-term economic weaknesses—and ones that will take time to fix. The real worry for Americans should be that their politicians, not least their president, are doing so little to tackle these underlying problems. Three failings stand out.

What’s wrong with America’s economy?
Its politicians are failing to tackle the country’s real problems. Believe it or not, they could learn from Europe

The first failing, of which Mr Obama in particular is guilty, is misstating the problem. He likes to frame America’s challenges in terms of “competitiveness”, particularly versus China. America’s prosperity, he argues, depends on “out-innovating, out-educating and out-building” China. This is mostly nonsense. America’s prosperity depends not on other countries’ productivity growth, but on its own (actually pretty fast) pace. Ideas spill over from one economy to another: when China innovates Americans benefit.

Of course, plenty more could be done to spur innovation. The system of corporate taxation is a mess and deters domestic investment. Mr Obama is right that America’s infrastructure is creaking (see article). But the solution there has as much to do with reforming Neanderthal funding systems as it does with the greater public spending he advocates. Too much of the “competitiveness” talk is a canard—one that justifies misguided policies, such as subsidies for green technology, and diverts attention from the country’s real to-do list.

“And the procedure is not without risks.”
————————————————————–

I remember reading, about 20 years ago, that an Atlanta doctor had botched the procedure with a heated instrument (please no play on these words :- ) ) and the choice had to be made as to whether to turn the little fellow into a girl or not. The damage was so severe that the choice was made to turn the baby’s genitals into those of a female, but of course that could not change the basic DNA of the child, which was male. Sad, sad, sad.

Actually, another male baby, about the same time, had a similar misfortune, but enough remained that he was left male.

I don’t have an opinion on what is happening in S.F. – just thought I should share those true stories.

She posted it without one iota of politics being involved. We are in a worldwide cycle of destruction which is created both by man and his politics, his arrogance and his stupidity and by mother nature. Mother nature does what it wants regardless of what man does even though man is naieve enough to think that he can control it through his politics, his planning and his brilliance. It’s a funny story, until you start to consider why it is a story at all. I have recently said several times that JFK would now days be considered far right with his speeches urging citizens to depend less on the government and his policies to lower taxes to promote growth.

The policies that most liberals on here openly promote would have been ” funny stories” during the 60s. Marriage between two men? Now that’s a knee slapper, or at least it was. Now it’s a cause celeb that inspires riots. The government dictating the diets of our children?

I’m reading 1984. It’s boring. It was written to shock. It’s nothing. It’s everyday life in the US. Sure many parts are exaggerated, at least for now, but like this silly little story, it is all about control.

The health bill is all about the government having the right to control every aspect of our lives and the excuse is that since the government is now responsible for our health, they are responsible for the way we live our lives.

Liberalism doesn’t stop. Think up a bunch of crazy ideas, They are pushed, politicians see a way to gain power and control and they are passed. So do liberals stop? No. So the ideas get crazier and crazier.

And it is all hidden under the guise of justice or doing what is right.

Doesn’t it occur to anyone that the more these crazy ideas are accepted, the more we see the demise of our country and our own well being?

The point is that ideas that were considered crazy a few years ago are now worth fighting for. Since birth, have you always thought that gay marriage was an idea worth fighting for?

I don’t know how old you are, but I would guess that you grew up in the 60s, maybe 70s. BAck then, when you saw two gay men together, was your first thought: wouldn’t it be great of those two guys could be married?

Maybe it’s a little deep, but reading 1984 tends to make one question a lot of things. I suppose that is why it is no more required reading.
