From the official White House statement:
“The President believed the distraction over his birth certificate wasn’t good for the country. It may have been good politics and good TV, but it was bad for the American people and distracting from the many challenges we face as a country. Therefore, the President directed his counsel to review the legal authority for seeking access to the long form certificate and to request on that basis that the Hawaii State Department of Health make an exception to release a copy of his long form birth certificate. They granted that exception in part because of the tremendous volume of requests they had been getting.”
Or as Obama himself put it this morning:
“We don’t have time for this kind of silliness. We’ve got better stuff to do.”
This changes nothing, of course. The birther nonsense was born out of a deep conviction in some quarters that Barack Obama “ain’t one of us,” that he is not merely unAmerican but anti-American, and that his presence in the White House is an insult to this nation’s heritage.
The birth-certificate controversy was merely that sentiment given literal form. Even after this, the sentiment will remain; the cynics who preached it and profited by it, and the fools who believed it, remain with us as well.
Donald Trump, for example, just took credit for forcing the release — “I’m very proud of myself,” he said — but he then doubled down on his foolishness, refusing point blank to acknowledge that this ends the controversy and instead demanding to see Obama’s academic records.
Birtherism was, and is, a symptom of something fundamentally gone awry in the national psyche. And this doesn’t fix it, not by a long shot.

Funny how the President took time from his oh so busy schedule not to talk about our sky rocketing debt, or about 15 million people unemployed, or about double digit inflation, or about $5.00 gasoline, or about the third war, or about the value of our plunging currency, but to answer charges made by Donald Trump. The President is admitting he has more concern about what Donald Trump thinks than any of the very serious problems facing this nation. Conclusion: He has no solution to real problems but Trump scares him.

Two Points:
1) It was “AL”L about votes. As long as Obama thought the issue would gain him votes he kept it Hidden. Once his stafff started advising him this was getting out of control and could cost him votes he relented. It’s just that simple and could/should have been ended months ago..
2) The origiinial “birther” was Hillary Clinton during the primaries. He should have ended it back then.
One Counter Point:
As a person who’s worked with the agency that’s assigned to protect the POTUS, you, above all others, should know that anyone who would potentially have the ability to lay eyes upon some of the most classified of classified documents would be thoroughly vetted before being able to accept the nomination from a major party. Why you’ve continued to stir the birther pot for so long, I’ll never begin to understand.

Why appologize to me about what Daniels did? It appears that he’s just another GOP leader with minimal to no bargaining skills. Rather than try to sit at the bargaining table and deal man to man, he’d rather blow up the table. It really doesn’t matter what the current GOP does, because all those laws limiting collective bargaining can be overturned in the same manner that the GOP has tried to gut collective bargaining. Once the blinders come off and everyone realizes that the common people benefit more from being able to negotiate, the GOP will rue the day they all tried to do away with CB.

Scott: in case no one answered your question, the surplus was because for each fiscal year, revenue intake was higher than spending. The interest on the existing debt is the reason for the national debt number rising. What you really should look at though us by HOW MUCH the deficit rose each year. It was less and less each year until Bush took over, taxes were cut and spending went out of control.

USMC: he presented the “simple” birth certificate way back in 2007. The one any normal citizen can request and acquire for themselves. The one he just released was much harder to get, and I fully expect someone to start complaining about how he abused his office to get a form that almost no citizen has access to, even if it is their own long form!

No, Obama is spending 2-4 million in lawyers fees trying to hide the sources of his 2008 campaign funds. This is something that is simmering on the back burner right but will soon be right out front of all us. Judging from what he is spending on it, he must be extremely worried.

Just read about a friendly Afgan pilot killing 8 American soldiers before they got him, this occured in a friendly meeting site. This type of incident seems to be occuring too many times. To me as a former military person, no Muslim life(man, woman, or child) is worth the life of a young American soldier to be sacrificed for them to survive! Obama does not understand this, nor did Bush! Either crush the Taliban or just get the hell out!!!!! Get out of all the Muslim foreign countries, we are not going to change their destiny, no matter what we do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
