They granted that exception in part because of the tremendous volume of requests they had been getting.”
Or as Obama himself put it this morning:
“We don’t have time for this kind of silliness. We’ve got better stuff to do.”
This changes nothing, of course. The birther nonsense was born out of a deep conviction in some quarters that Barack Obama “ain’t one of us,” that he is not merely unAmerican but anti-American, and that his presence in the White House is an insult to this nation’s heritage.
The birth-certificate controversy was merely that sentiment given literal form. Even after this, the sentiment will remain; the cynics who preached it and profited by it, and the fools who believed it, remain with us as well.

As I said yesterday, the PAPER is EVERYTHING. If you don’t accept the validity of the OFFICIAL DOCUMENT, as the dangerous buffoon Mr. Trump is doing, then you’re accusing the system of LYING and therefore all the documents issued by the government of the state of Hawaii, and by extension, the federal government, are invalid.
So the issue has nothing to do with Mr. Obama’s citizenship, but with the ability of a jurisdiction and a legal system to speak on a matter and thereby close a debate, which relies on the FAITH of a group of people in an AUTHORITY that can speak that word.
It’s no more and no less simple than that. Mr. Trump is hollowing out the marrow of the symbolic authority of this nation, and that’s why he’s paving the way for the dictatorships of the future.

• What is the significance of the smudges in the box containing the name of the reported attendant?
• In the “This Birth” box there are two mysterious Xs above “Twin” and “Triplet.” Is there a sibling or two unaccounted for?

To think that someone could be vetted by numerous governmental agencies and get away without showing concrete evidence of being a citizen is absurd. The man has the ultimate security clearance, and you can’t just go to the DMV and get that.

Joseph Farah, editor and chief executive officer of WND, the only news agency that has waged a relentless investigative campaign on questions swirling around the Obama’s eligibility for nearly three years, was elated at the turn of events.
“We’re gratified that our work has begun to pay off,” he said. “The certificate of live birth is an absolutely vital foundation for determining constitutional eligibility of any president. We look forward to reviewing it like so many other Americans do at this late date. But it is important to remember there are still dozens of other questions concerning this question of eligibility that need to be resolved to assure what has become a very skeptical public concerning Barack Obama’s parentage, his adoption, his citizenship status throughout his life and why he continues to cultivate a culture of secrecy around his life.”

You’re buying into the SPECTACLE that has been created by the loons and encouraged by Mr. Trump, but I’m talking about the larger issue at stake, which is the symbolic authority of our system to issue documents that are authoritative, which means they have the capacity prima facie to CLOSE a DEBATE. In other words, failure to recognize a debate as being closed instantly certifies you as certified loon. That tautological loop is the loop of symbolic authority and it’s being undermined with the help of opportunists like Mr. Trump, who’s doing incalculable damage to the nation with his campaign of demagoguery. What is your response to this material issue ( not to the question of some short-term PR horse-race ) ?- Left wing management

Seriously, of course it was a sideshow by Trump but for some people was a legitimate question. If anybody was keeping the sideshow going it was Obama by refusing to release his birth certificate. He could have shut down this nonsensical question a long time ago. It took Mr. Trump intimidating Obama to get it done. No doubt about it. Obama is a weak man.

Question. Keep in mind that I don’t align either Left or Right, but I’m curious about the 2012 Presidntial race. Am I to assume now that EVERY candidate that plans to run in 2012 and beyond will first need to show their Birth Certificate, College Transcripts and a complete record of their travels between the age of 1 and 40?
