It may have been good politics and good TV, but it was bad for the American people and distracting from the many challenges we face as a country. Therefore, the President directed his counsel to review the legal authority for seeking access to the long form certificate and to request on that basis that the Hawaii State Department of Health make an exception to release a copy of his long form birth certificate. They granted that exception in part because of the tremendous volume of requests they had been getting.”
Or as Obama himself put it this morning:
“We don’t have time for this kind of silliness. We’ve got better stuff to do.”
This changes nothing, of course. The birther nonsense was born out of a deep conviction in some quarters that Barack Obama “ain’t one of us,” that he is not merely unAmerican but anti-American, and that his presence in the White House is an insult to this nation’s heritage.
The birth-certificate controversy was merely that sentiment given literal form. Even after this, the sentiment will remain; the cynics who preached it and profited by it, and the fools who believed it, remain with us as well.
Donald Trump, for example, just took credit for forcing the release — “I’m very proud of myself,” he said — but he then doubled down on his foolishness, refusing point blank to acknowledge that this ends the controversy and instead demanding to see Obama’s academic records.
Birtherism was, and is, a symptom of something fundamentally gone awry in the national psyche. And this doesn’t fix it, not by a long shot.

Prior to today there were three reasons (in no particular order or believeability) for not releasing the document
1. It was lost/destroyed/misplaced by the state at some point 2.He wasn’t born in the US 3. It was political gamesmanship or “silliness” in O’s own words.
I can’t think of any other possible reason (unless you add a conspiracy to the lost bucket) So now we know why it took so long to be released and some of the folks here think the birthers showed their butt? Not a very cogent opinion, true birthers were proved wrong but it was O who showed his butt. This could have been a moot point years ago.

The issue never was about facts. It has always been about the panic an evidently considerable portion of the population felt upon seeing a black man elected President. Ironically some folks here are gloating about the birthers being played and they are correct, however that is precisely what O is being criticized for by the more logical among us. First of all birthers are/were a fringe. (and does anyone think for a second there wouldn’t be a fringe at least as big if the parties were reversed) In any case the point is for a man with a foreign born parent who spent much a good amount of time overseas, proof of birth is a legitimate question by any estimation, an honorable response to that question would be to provide that proof, neglecting to do so in a timely manner is a perfect example of the political shenanigans O professed to despise and should be far below the office of the president, anyone who can’t see O’s complicity here is truly not looking at it logically. A couple of points, school boy…
1) Interest payments count as a current expense. It would make just as much sense to subtract welfare payments and claim a surplus…i.e. make NO SENSE AT ALL
2) You could also argue that the deficit was shrinking when the reoublicans had the House under Clinton, and began rising agains when the democrats took over the House. Correlation does not necessarily equal causation
3) Tax receipts didn’t fall when the Bush tax cuts kicked in. But spending grew even faster.
4) If the tax cuts are so bad, why do Obozo extend them?
5) If spending “went out of control” under Bush, how would you characterize spending under Obaama?

If it hasn’t been posted already, go to the copy of the BC on the AJC’s home page, zoom the view to 1,800%, and look only at the number “10641″ in the upper right hand corner. At that zoom level, it should pretty much fill your screen.
Notice the difference in the last “1″. It was obviously not created in the same manner the rest of the characters were.

His passport records.
His parents’ marriage license and divorce decree.
