So we’ve got two probable candidates for the GOP presidential nominees who claim Georgia as their base. One is Newt Gingrich.
This is the other one.
For those who can’t view the video, Herman Cain is asked whether he would be willing to appoint a Muslim as a Cabinet officer or judge.
“No. I will not,” he said. “And here’s why: There’s this creeping attempt — there’s this attempt to gradually ease Sharia law and the Muslim faith into our government.” According to Cain, many American Muslims “are trying to force their Sharia law onto the rest of us.”
That’s just stupid. As in not very bright. By comparison, the Sharia conspiracy crowd makes the birthers look downright sane and reasonable. It will be interesting to see who, if anyone, among the GOP mainstream steps up to repudiate such nonsense. After all, the Constitution explicitly rules out such nonsense, stating point blank that “no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.”
I guess Herman Cain doesn’t believe in the Constitution.
Oh, and by the way?
In a speech to Texas evangelicals, Gingrich also took up the theme over the weekend, warning that unless America is saved, his grandchildren “will live in a secular atheist country, potentially one dominated by radical Islamists and with no understanding of what it once meant to be an American.”
“a secular atheist country … dominated by radical Islamists?” Wow. That would be some trick.
It’s the kind of rhetorical collision that happens when you’re merely listing scare words needed to scare your audience and not even attempting to communicate cogent thought.

Let’s review….
1) “MLK was a registered Republican.” MLK was transitioning into the Democratic Party when he was assassinated. Don’t forget..it was Democrats that integrated the Armed Forces (HST)…led the push for integration (FDR)…signed the Civil Rights Act (LBJ)…and freed MLK from the Birmingham Jail (JFK/RFK) with the Midwestern and Northern GOP! Southern and Western GOP’ers along invited Southern Democrats to joing the party…and they brought their racist platform with them. Note the Southern Strategy, “states’ rights”…..
2) “Please explain why black people vote Democrat…’
Prior to 1964, the GOP would garner the preponderance of the Republican vote due to the loyalty generated by being the
party of Lincoln”; since 1964, when the Sourthern Democrats migrated to the GOP and formed a coalition with Southern and Western Republicans, they pushed forth a racist agenda that still permeates the party! Note Barry Goldwater, Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms, Ronald Reagan…”Southern Strategy”, SB 1070, lack of enforcement of discrimination statutes……
Republicans have done everything to alienate black people from voting for them…note how Colin Powell was treated at the GOP convention; he was literallt BOOED off the stage! Anyone who doesn’t kowtow to GOP orthodoxy, i.e., conservative, discriminatory practices, gets shunned by the party! Note how Michael Steele was treated as Chairman…..
The evidence speaks volumes……..

This thread’s tired Jay. How about something on Obama kicking off his campaign with the unveiling of the MLK statue, fanning the flames of racism into a cause celebre and exploiting it for a second term attempt. My guess is 3 day love fest on the mall, Al, Jesse, Maya, and the gang, Bruce, Bob D, Little Stevie Wonder, all stern faced in mock righteous indignation, 24 hour news coverage, some DNC paid actors to portray skinheads trying to crash the party but thwarted by a human chain of mixed races singing We shall overcome. Then the Obama speech, not just a speech but the zenith of humankind and the spoken word, a moment that will be portrayed that the earth stood still, crime stopped, rust slept, and the angels sighed. Unemployement be damned.

____
Sorry, Ragnar, thought I’d jump in on this one.
No, it does not legitimize Sharia as a legal system in our country. The judge is merely enforcing the dictates of the contract, which required an Imam and Sharia Law in mediation. It would be like a contract requiring Levitical law during mediation. If the contract was legally established, then the judge would have to uphold it. It’s not asking for anything outrageous, like the sacrifice of heifers or anything. The mosque members in Florida are trying to settle a debate over funds from an eminent domain settlement.

“but doesn’t that Tampa ruling set precedent that legitimizes Sharia law into our legal system?”
It appears Ragnar has left so please let me attempt an answer.
Both parties in the case drew up a contract that said if there was a dispute a Muslim authority would settle the dispute according to Muslim principles. This is no different that a Christian church and a person signing a contract that says if there’s a problem they’d arbitrate before a Christian council using New Testament principles.
There was a dispute, one of the parties filed for a hearing in US court. The judge said “hold on, there. You guys signed a contract that said if you have a problem, you’re going to take it to a certain Muslim guy who’s going to use Sharia, which you both agreed to. Now get this out of my court and go back and settle it as you’d previously agreed.”
Does not at all bring Sharia into our legal system. If anything, it makes the separation stronger because the case was tossed from the court back to their own system.

Other than for legal matters in whcih Sharia law may be appropriate (such as perhaps a Terry Schivo type case involving someone of the islamic faith or a matter involving death), Sharia law cannot and will not replace the US Constitution, federal law or state law. A couple of points:
1) I would disagree with Mr. Cain that “Muslims” have no place in U.S. government. However, it depends on “what kind of Muslim” just as it would depend on “what type of Christian”.
A “Christian” who is a member of a ‘white supremist group’ or believes as they do has no place in U.S. government.
A ” Mulsim” who is a member of a ‘Sharia law for our country group’ or believes as they do has no place in U.S. goverment.
I think MUSLIM (emphasis added) Dr. Zuhdi Jasser (who leads the American Islamic Forum for Democracy) expresses it best when he calls on American Muslims to aggressively oppose a “culture of separatism, to disavaow scripture that belittles non-Muslims and women and to renounce a role for ISLAM IN GOVERNMENT” (emphasis added).
2) This is an apt description of the type of Muslim we “don’t” want in our government:
“Islamist is the most apt descriptor for the belief system which holds that Islam is the complete, obligatory guide to human existance, governing all matters political, social, cultural, and religious, from cradle to grave (and of course, beyond).
For the Islamist, democracy is a tool for acquiring power, not a culture of governance.
It is delusional to regard as ‘moderate’ people whose designs are radical. If the threat to freedom is geometrically broader than the threat of mass-murder attacks, it is national suicide for a free, self-determining people to pretend that our problems are limited to Muslim terrorists.”

Not so much nowadays, as we’ve pretty much shut the last of those aholes down:
Beginning after the Civil War, the Protestant-led, white supremacist Ku Klux Klan members in the Southern United States engaged in arson, beatings, cross burning, destruction of property, lynching, murder, rape, tar-and-feathering, and whipping against African Americans, Jews, Catholics and other social or ethnic minorities. The goals of the KKK included from an early time on, an intent to, “reestablish Protestant Christian values in America by any means possible,” and believe that, “Jesus was the first Klansman.” Many modern Klan organizations, such as the Knights Party, USA, continue to focus on the Christian supremacist message, asserting that there is a “war” on to destroy “western Christian civilization.”

Doggone, as I stated, I won’t do your homework. If you want to see the facts just Google it, that way you will see the facts and you won’t have to believe me, but to answer someone without checking it out first is …well is kinda dumb.

“so that Sharia can be impossed on the unsuspecting signatories of the contract”
If the signatories sign a contract without vetting it completely and understanding it…they have no one to thank but THEMSELVES if they are subsequently held to the provisions of that contract.

Police Now Enforcing Sharia Law in Michigan
As the video at the link shows, the “disorderly conduct” consisted of the Christians handing out free copies of the Gospel of John to individuals outside of the festival. They were arrested, and at one point were ordered to stop filming the detention.

For as many conservatives bring forth Robert Byrd and state that they believe in redemption…..it appears that redemption only serves a conservative IF they convert to THEIR orthodoxy!!
Byrd said that he regretted filibustering and voting against the Civil Rights Act of 1964[50] and would change it if he had the opportunity. He said joining the KKK was, “the greatest mistake I ever made.”
For the 2003-2004 session, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People(NAACP)[55] rated Byrd 100 percent compliant with the NAACP’s position on the 33 Senate bills they evaluated. 16 other senators received that rating. In June 2005, Byrd proposed an additional $10 million in federal funding for the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial in Washington, D.C., remarking that, “With the passage of time, we have come to learn that his Dream was the American Dream, and few ever expressed it more eloquently.”
Byrd stated that he was offended by Thomas’ use of the phrase “high-tech lynching of uppity blacks” in his defense and that he was “offended by the injection of racism” into the hearing. He called Thomas’s comments a “diversionary tactic”, and said “I thought we were past that stage.”
Counter that with Ronald Reagan’s support for segregation in Philadelphia, Mississippi: “I believe in states’ rights…. ”
Given the history of Philadelphia, and Reagan’s use of the words “states’ rights,” often interpreted as a desire to return to pre-Civil Rights laws regarding segregation, many of Reagan’s critics felt that he was at least insensitive to the concerns of blacks, or that he even was using this location and these words as a cynical, coded appeal to the white racist vote. Columnist Bob Herbert of The New York Times wrote, “Everybody watching the 1980 campaign knew what Reagan was signaling at the fair,” and that it “was understood that when politicians started chirping about “states’ rights” to white people in places like Neshoba County they were saying that when it comes down to you and the blacks, we’re with you”.[3] Paul Krugman, also of the Times, noted that a Republican national committee member from Mississippi had urged Reagan to speak at the county fair, as it would help win over “George Wallace inclined voters”, and wrote that this was just one of many examples of “Reagan’s tacit race-baiting in the historical record.”
Jesse Helms: He moved to the Republican party in the 1970s. Helms was the most stridently conservative politician of the post 1960 era, especially in opposition to integration, the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act. Helms tried, with a 16-day filibuster, to stop the Senate from approving a federal holiday to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.
When the Voting Rights Act came up for amendment in 1982, Helms and Thurmond criticised it; writing in the Washington Post several years later, David Broder attributed Helms opposition to the MLK holiday to racism on Helms’s part. In a widely publicized incident, Carol Moseley Braun, the first black woman in the Senate and the only black Senator at the time, alleged that Helms offended her by whistling the tune to a racist song.[225][225][226][227] Soon after the Senate vote on the Confederate flag insignia, which opponents saw as an overt symbol of racism, Helms ran into Moseley Braun in an elevator.[225] Helms turned to Senator Orrin Hatch and said, “Watch me make her cry. I’m going to make her cry. I’m going to sing Dixie until she cries.” He then proceeded to sing the song about ‘the good life’ during slavery to Moseley Braun. In 1999, Helms attempted to block Moseley Braun’s nomination to be United States Ambassador to New Zealand.

I wish Herman, who I normally like, would try to find moderate muslims to work on his team. The ones who hate the extremists and just want to live in a capitalist and safe country. I know several, actually. Lead by example, Herman. That’d be like me saying I’d never hire a catholic to work for me – because of all the horrible things that the Catholic church has done for centuries and because of the child molesting priests. Herman should be trying to reach out to the muslim community and get them on his side – not turn them off from capitalist based policies.

You know, Jay, if you ever bothered to point out the ridiculous things left wing politicians do and say, then people might not look at you as a partisan hack. You might even get respect from someone other than far left wingers.
Where’s your columns on how evil Obama is for invading Libya? Or are you somehow convinced that it’s more justified than Bush going to Iraq, even though Bush had 18 UN statements and the support of both Congress, the citizens of the US in polls, and a coalition of countries twice the size of Obama’s?
Cain made a silly statement, but Obama is out there actually murdering Muslims. I’ll take Cain and his talk over Obama and his three wars, none of which he is executing competently. But, being a partisan hack, you just keep attacking the right. We all see the very thin intellectual veneer you cover your extreme partisanship with, and only a very few, very left wing, readers are fooled.

Southern Comfort 12:15 “Last Tuesday, Florida Circuit Judge Richard Nielsen defended his decision to uphold a binding arbitration agreement, based upon Sharia Law, between ex-trustees of a local Mosque who claim to have been unfairly removed by the current leadership of that Mosque. The Islamic arbitration ruled in favor of the ex-trustees. The current leadership appealed, which is why the matter ended up before Judge Neilson:

“Beginning after the Civil War, the Protestant-led, white supremacist Ku Klux Klan”
Ever notice how AmVet NEVER posts links to his “evidence?” Vet’s plagiarizing.
Klan groups spread throughout the South as an insurgent movement during the Reconstruction era in the United States. As a secret vigilante group, the Klan focused its anger reacted against Radical Republicans and sought to restore white supremacy by threats and violence, including murder, against black and white Republicans.

embrace facts all the time whether you have the character to admit it or not. Embraced a conservative every know again, but since the GOP fell apart into a few real conservatives and allowing themselves to be pushed around by the radical fringe – can’t be done
with out protection – that kind of evil, selfish, fearful behavior
