Herman Cain: Muslims have no place in US government

So we’ve got two probable candidates for the GOP presidential nominees who claim Georgia as their base. One is Newt Gingrich.

This is the other one.

For those who can’t view the video, Herman Cain is asked whether he would be willing to appoint a Muslim as a Cabinet officer or judge.

“No. I will not,” he said. “And here’s why: There’s this creeping attempt — there’s this attempt to gradually ease Sharia law and the Muslim faith into our government.” According to Cain, many American Muslims “are trying to force their Sharia law onto the rest of us.”

That’s just stupid. As in not very bright. By comparison, the Sharia conspiracy crowd makes the birthers look downright sane and reasonable. It will be interesting to see who, if anyone, among the GOP mainstream steps up to repudiate such nonsense. After all, the Constitution explicitly rules out such nonsense, stating point blank that “no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.”

I guess Herman Cain doesn’t believe in the Constitution.

Oh, and by the way?

In a speech to Texas evangelicals, Gingrich also took up the theme over the weekend, warning that unless America is saved, his grandchildren “will live in a secular atheist country, potentially one dominated by radical Islamists and with no understanding of what it once meant to be an American.”

“a secular atheist country … dominated by radical Islamists?” Wow. That would be some trick.

It’s the kind of rhetorical collision that happens when you’re merely listing scare words needed to scare your audience and not even attempting to communicate cogent thought.

It’s both funny and sad that the party that preaches their love of the Constitution continue to show a complete lack of what it says. Sharia Law can not and will not supercede the Constitution because of Article 6:

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

ajc dumpster dive: FOUND, 1 PERSONAL LETTER

Dear Mrs. T at the ajc,

It was good to see you in S. America last week. thanks for making the secret trip down in the Sierra Club’s gulfstream jet.

I’m sorry the weather was so cold. Al Gore, who came on his own plane said it was because of global warming, and I’m starting to believe him. Do you know how many planes there are in the air at any given time? I mean we have to order them away from us, just so we can get our entorage off the ground, and it takes a LONG time! The air’s so cold up where they fly, they’ve got to be bringing it down to the ground, you know? Kind of like they’re sinking that island.

I’m sorry I couldn’t please you this time. I had some bad fish or whatever, and I couldn’t stand the bloating and the gas that night I heard Hillary talking about all those poor Libyans. I figured–hell–if she’s got a case for helping poor people in the Middle East, then hey, I’m not going to stop her.

You know we both hate the military, but I couldn’t have it be said (and you know this) that the President sat idly by while people were hurt, intimidated or pushed around, especially those poor non-white muslims. I mean we’ve got a whole program to make them feel better about themselves. Who am I to put a stop to that? Khadafi is a bad guy, right? I mean, CAIR says he’s not even a true muslim.

So, I called Robert and told him to send some ships and planes–or whatever else you’ve got–over there to “take out” stuff. I want to be seen like I’m doing something about it, you know. I mean, the American people really like that, don’t they? History will look more kindly on me, you know, as the guy who would do anything for peace, and that includes pissing off the peace lovers throwing all those rocks in San Francisco. Anyway, always great to know your opinion, even though I know your column will always defend me. Thanks for that by the way XOXO!

Try and remember how hard this is going to be for me. We might actually be there for years. Years! What are they going to think of me at the Code Pink winter holiday party? How can I make an another appearance at the al-Jazeera’s correspondence dinner?

It was great to see you and feel your healing hands. You give great neck rubs. And I liked your wisecrack about the prize I should get for my distinguished “noble piece.” –you ATL girls… (sigh!)

Love,

Barry

This is exactly why the left wing media is failing miserably. You guys don’t even know what you’re talking about. In case you haven’t noticed, Sharia Law is what owns Iran and other Moooslem nations in the Middle East. But, since you’re not concerned about it I guess you are fine with Mooslem men raping their wives, daughters etc and also stoning them to death.

He’s absolutely right, Bookman.

Gingrich: will live in a secular atheist country

This has also been a secular, atheist country.

Maybe the history professor should have taken some more courses in theory and philosophy, then maybe he would have learned to actually think.

But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg. – Thomas Jefferson

The moment that a state is not founded on a religion, as this one is not, it thereby essentially becomes atheistic, that is, god-less, without a founding god. Statements by our founders that seem to go to the contrary amount to so much 18th C deist window dressing hiding the fact that we are a non-religious nation, which is to say godless and atheist.

As I said, it’s funny and sad. The GOP and conservatives alike profess their love of the US and the US Constitution. If you love the Constitution so much, learn what it says. Sharia Law can not supercede US law under the Constitution. Many parts of Sharia would not be constitutional if you applied it to the Constitution, so there’s no way Sharia Law will rule the US. I find it funny that conservatives try to stir up drama over Sharia, when all it takes is a reading of the Constitution to render those false assumptions as moot.

Since the people gave a clear message during the last congressional election and since you GOP folks predict more of the same for 2012, what is this fear you are spouting concerning muslims and minorities both legal and illegal? Last I saw the major majority of congressional reps for both houses were white males of the Christian persuasion and the heads of 99%(+) corporations are the same. I really don’t get the fear you are promoting.

Southern……I do not think that Sharia Law will ever be instituted in America. However that doesnt mean that most Muslims do not want to see it happen.

And, yes, I know you’ll want to laugh that off as paranoid, but what is actually happening in countries where sharia law reigns? You think non muslims are welcome there? Fact: whether the US is an atheistic country or not has nothing whatsoever to do with the prevalence of actual belief among its populace. 99.99 % of the population could be devout Christians or Muslims or Buddhists and it would make no difference because what counts is what the nation is founded on, which is the Enlightenment principle of reason which is atheistic root and branch, no matter how much Deistic God-talk is tossed out to soften that fact.
