In an interview with Christianity Today, GOP presidential candidate and metro Atlanta resident Herman Cain was asked about race and discrimination:
“Do people still discriminate in some small ways against certain people because of their color or their religion? Yes. But it is nowhere near where it was 235 years ago.
Whether we will ever reach that utopian level of all men created equal and all men being treated equal, I don’t know. You know, the journey in life is to strive to be better and better every day, to strive to be more Christ-like. Whether or not any of us get to the level of Christ himself, I doubt it, because we are human. You have secret thoughts, and only God and Christ knows those secret thoughts. And they may not be Christ-like.”
That’s well put. Later, however, the interviewer asks Cain about a speech he gave last month at a church in Milner, Ga., in which Cain recounted his successful battle against cancer. (A video of the speech is below; the section in question begins at the 5:00 minute mark). When he learned that his surgeon would be a Dr. Abdallah, Cain said, he initially balked. But when the physician’s assistant reassured him that “Don’t worry, he’s a (Lebanese) Christian,” Cain reports that he “felt a whole lot better.”
The interviewer uses that incident to inquire about the appropriate role for Muslims in this country:
“The role of Muslims in American society is for them to be allowed to practice their religion freely, which is part of our First Amendment. The role of Muslims in America is not to convert the rest of us to the Muslim religion. That I resent. Because we are a Judeo-Christian nation, from the fact that 85 percent of us are self-described Christians, or evangelicals, or practicing the Jewish faith. Eighty-five percent. One percent of the practicing religious believers in this country are Muslim.
And so I push back and reject them trying to convert the rest of us. And based upon the little knowledge that I have of the Muslim religion, you know, they have an objective to convert all infidels or kill them. Now, I know that there are some peaceful Muslims who don’t go around preaching or practicing that. Well, unfortunately, we can’t sit back and tolerate the radical ones simply because we know that there are some of them who don’t believe in that aspect of the Muslim religion. So their role is to be allowed to practice their religion freely, just like we should be allowed to practice our religion freely, and not try to convert the rest of us.”
“Their role is to be allowed to practice their religion freely … and not try to convert the rest of us.”
In other words, they better not get too pushy, right Mr. Cain? They better recognize their place. They can be equal, but … not THAT equal.
The remarks are particularly interesting in the context of the rest of the interview, in which Cain makes a pitch for political support from the Christian evangelical community. (Cain himself is an associate pastor at Antioch Baptist Church North in Atlanta). One of the defining characteristics of the evangelical movement is the importance it places on, well, evangelizing. You know, trying to convert the non-believing and thus save their souls. Like many in the Muslim faith, they see it as part of their religious duty.
Apparently that’s OK for Christians in this country, but not for others.

josef, I don’t think Jay is anti-Christian. I just think him and his ideological brethren just think that it is the most vulnerable and the most acceptable religion to attack without any potential political fallout for themselves from their editors or their peers. White Christians in this country have become the “enemy” to be conquered by the left. Nevermind that there are millions of black christians. To the left, the Christianity that is practiced in the black church is much different than the “hateful” Christianity that whites practice. And why is that? Because black christians blindly support the demoractic party. It is just that simple.
The left can’t attack Jews or Muslims or Hindus because it would be not politically correct to do so as those religions don’t represent the largest majority of religious people in this country. The progressive movement is all about attacking the white majority of anything and furthering the cause of the minority because if they (the left) can get enough groups that they deem as “minorities” on their side, they think that they can control things. And to the left, this whole thing is about control and eliminating anyone and anything that stands in their way of achieving their goal. The only types of people in our society that are allowed to be attacked and made fun of anymore are obese people, people from the South (because of their supposed stereotypical “ignorance” and “bigot” label), black people that stray from the democratic fold and certain conservative women. There is nothing more that liberals hate than members of their ordained “minorities” that “defect” from their liberal cause. I means Jays piece here is meant to do exactly what I am saying and look at Palin. I don’t like Palin at all but it is totally OK with NOW for Bill Maher to call her a “cu#@” on national TV. Is Jay OK with this? Is anyone OK with calling a woman this? The silence from the media on this arrogant clown calling Palin this most derogratory term is because their ideology means more than common decency and if that is what our society has come to, I want no part of it. And make no mistake, I am not a died in the wool Christrian. I do believe in a higher power but my belief is my own business as is everyone elses. I hate hypocrisy and I see more and more of it everyday here and everywhere else.

There is a great deal of truth to what you say there. It is not my religion, but it particularly galls me when somebody comes in attacking Christianity and Christians (or any faith for that matter) with a broad brush. And you are right, there is this list that many liberals and no small few conservatives have of those it is okay to malign out of hand…

In my opinion Jay and millions of others are mistaken to think that all “religions” are equal and should be tolerated equally and treated equally. That is pure nonsense !
There are some religions in this country that like polygamy. We don’t allow that. It’s against the law. We don’t treat that religion equally.
It is my understanding that the British fear there are still some tribes in Uganda who sacrifice children to the “Crocadile God”. Guess what ………. that “religion” should disappear from the face of the earth.
If Jim Jones had not sipped the Kool-Aid and was still operating here in this country and immigrants by the hundreds of thousands were coming here to join his “cult”, change our laws and many were even violent about it what should our reaction be?

scout, your question is infantile. If we stay with your 3 muslim categories; chances are that classical muslims from the middle east come to the US. If they have children here they will be in category 1 whether their parents like it or not…this same analogy can be used for those of us (americans who have been here for generations) who grew up in christian, conservative households where the children don’t follow the parents. Over time you will lose both groups of muslim and christian radicals just like today. You can’t stand gay people but your typical high school student doesn’t see it your way anymore and within time they will be able to marry and in another closer to home example; we will hopefully have alcohol sales on sunday.

No, all you have to have is a soul.
Religion is a political organization.
Not just electoral “politics”, but “politics” in the sense that when more than two people get together and have to make decisions, then a certain amount of “lobbying” goes on to arrive at a consensus.
Some of the worst politicking that I have witnessed involves pulpit and/or building committees in 3 SBC churches.

Well, I got curious and looked up “religion” in the dictionary and what came up actually makes no refererence to a god at all:
re·li·gion /rɪˈlɪdʒən/ Show Spelled
[ri-lij-uhn] Show IPA
–noun
1. a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
2. a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion.
3. the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices: a world council of religions.
4. the life or state of a monk, nun, etc.: to enter religion.
5. the practice of religious beliefs; ritual observance of faith.
6. something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience: to make a religion of fighting prejudice.

This isn’t intended as a Muslim bash, it’s directed at Qaddafi, who, inconveniently is Muslim.
The Gaddafi regime continues to deny any massacre took place in the Libyan town of Zawiyah.
Instead the government spokesman in Tripoli has asked Britain to produce “evidence” of any civilians dying at the hands of Gaddafi forces there.
Well, Dr Moussa Ibrahim, Sky News has that evidence. A Sky News team of three was trapped in Zawiyah as Gaddafi unleashed the might of his toughest brigade on the town – for days and days.

What he really was down there for was to talk Brazil into buying up some of our national debt because now that Japan is unable to do it, he had to find another convenient “partner” to do it (or monetary patsy, if you will). He has no intention of curtailing our spending. He only wants another international “enabler” to continue it.
And what about those beloved American corn ethanol tarriffs? Obama is more than willing to throw them (and the heavily subsidized farmers in the Midwest) away for Brazil and their sugar cane produced ethanol market just to buy our debt. I don’t believe in the anti-christ thing but the thinking behind it is pretty much sound. If you have someone that promises you everything, whether they can deliver or not, then most likely the uninformed/biased will follow them and Obama is, if nothing more, a promiser. For those that believe in the anti-christ, rest assured, Obama is most certainly not that. He is not that smart. Obama has no real substance at all and his only real belief is in himself. It really is surprising that so many intelligent people are willing to continue to support Obama even though they must know in their heart of hearts, they have elected a loser. I can now understand how Hitler and Mussolini and any number of unsavory political characters in world history have come to power. They just promised to solve all of societies problems in a very convincing way, just as Obama did but unfortunately, our children are going to pay the price for this fools dreams of self-grandeur.

“We will continue to support the actions against Libya but we will not be in the lead.” – President Obama from El Salvador.
Who’s gonna lead and why the hell did we move our fleet, shoot off a couple hundred million dollars worth of Tomahawks, lose an F-15 and god only knows what else?
Our POTUS is a complete buffoon.

@Kamchak: I have wondered for a while what a Kamchak was lol, so I finally did a google. Is your handle in fact from the books about the world of Gor? If so, (I know a REALLY stupid question) are they any good? I love science fiction/fantasy and need some good books to read. I see they are up to 26. It’s not a Robert Jordon type thing where the author got fond of his own voice and died before he could finish the series is it?

Here’s one thing Obama did well. He needs to stick with this and live in Vegas.
Feel terrible about the state of your bracket after the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament? Don’t worry, we all do. But one person that doesn’t is President Barack Obama, leader of the free world and, apparently, bracket expert. Obama’s bracket is one of the nation’s best ahead of the Sweet Sixteen, in the 99.9th percentile in ESPN’s bracket challenge. For a man many say is too busy to enjoy as much college basketball as the rest of us, it’s an impressive feat, to say the least.
Obama nailed the West region in his bracket, correctly picking Duke, Arizona, Connecticut and San Diego State to make it to the Sweet Sixteen. In the Southeast, he lost one of his Final Four teams as Pittsburgh fell to Butler while also missing on Wisconsin. The Southwest region is a mess, just like the rest of the nation’s — even Obama couldn’t predict Richmond, VCU and Florida State making the Sweet Sixteen. Finally, the East region was near-perfect, with only Marquette spoiling Obama’s chance at perfection in the region.
In total, Obama has 490 points in the ESPN bracket challenge thus far, earning him bragging rights in the college basketball world. Meanwhile, my own bracket is on fire and a heaping mess after the first two rounds. You can check out our Sweet Sixteen predictions to get a handle on the next two rounds, or it may be safer to just follow Obama’s at this point.

Soothsayer:
You’re not paying attention. I told you yesterday you had that “tree thing” backwards. Right josef?
“Among the signs of the approach of Day of Judgment is what the messenger of Allah PBUH said: “The hour of judgment shall not happen until the Muslims fight the Jews. The Muslims shall kill the Jews to the point that the Jew shall hide behind a big rock or a tree and the rock or tree shall call on the Muslim saying: hey, O Muslim there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him ….”

President Moron
As a presidential candidate, Sen. Barack Obama (D.-Ill.) emphatically stated that the Constitution does not give the president the authority to unilaterally authorize a military attack unless it is needed to stop an actual or imminent attack on the United States.
Obama made the assertion in a Dec. 20, 2007 interview with the Boston Globe when reporter Charlie Savage asked him under what circumstances the president would have the constitutional authority to bomb Iran without first seeking authorization from Congress.
“The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation,” Obama responded.
