Wisconsin anti-union law blocked by court challenge

Oh really now?

From the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel:

Madison — Dane County Circuit Judge Maryann Sumi issued a temporary restraining order Friday, barring the publication of a controversial new law that would sharply curtail collective bargaining for public employees.

Sumi’s order will prevent Secretary of State Doug La Follette from publishing the law until she can rule on the merits of the case. Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne is seeking to block the law because he says a legislative committee violated the state’s open meetings law.

Sumi said Ozanne was likely to succeed on the merits.

“It seems to me the public policy behind effective enforcement of the open meeting law is so strong that it does outweigh the interest, at least at this time, which may exist in favor of sustaining the validity of the (law),” she said.

The judge’s finding – at least for now – is a setback to Republican Gov. Scott Walker and a victory for opponents, who have spent weeks in the Capitol to protest the bill.

So, it’s not about whether the law is legal. It’s about whether the process by which it became law was legal.

If you take a job away from someone who is paid a reasonable wage because they enjoy the protections and prosperity of democratic government, move it across a border, and give it to someone living under a thugocracy, forced to work for pennies with no protections whatsoever, it should be just plain obvious that the worker on our side of the border and the worker on the other side of the border are not going to be better off. And when you do this on a massive scale it just stands to reason that most people on both sides of the border are going to be worse off.

Everytime you see an action that restricts the actions or options of the working and middle class, you are seeing a nail driven into the coffin for the concepts of pensions, benefits, healthcare coverage, living wage, paid vacation, 40-hour work week, etc.

So what I’m reading is, plaintiff asserts every operation of the state legislature must comply with the open meeting law? I’m not sure he wants to go there, nor am I convinced that’s the intent of the law.

BTW – before we go off on what the law obviously means, here’s the compliance guide:

Talk about a major attempt to disconnect, divide, or anything else along that line. Public sector union members are public sector employees. Public sector employees generally hold government jobs. Most government jobs are limited to citizens or residents only. That would lead one to think that it’s more of a battle of Americans versus Americans. But then again, there’s a lot of bat shiite crazy thought going on in this country nowadays.

Obama’s Poll Numbers Plunge as Revolt Against Unions Spreads

President Barack Obama’s numbers have plunged in all 50 states, according to a Gallup poll released Wednesday — overall, the president’s average approval rating fell from 58 percent in 2009 to 47 percent in 2010.

The news came as the revolt against public unions started by Gov. Scott Walker in Wisconsin showed signs of moving to more states, according to Time magazine. Time pointed out that while anti-union legislation differs in states across the country, the conflicts in places like Ohio, Indiana and Florida all pit GOP governors or their statehouse allies against entrenched labor movements.
