Obama almost 2-1 favorite to win re-election
Will President Obama win re-election in 2012?
Karl Rove concedes that his chances are pretty good. “I consider him a favorite, albeit a slight favorite,” Rove told Politico. “Republicans underestimate President Obama at their own peril.”
Mike Huckabee, a potential challenger, isn’t among those making that mistake.
“The people that are sitting around saying, ‘He’s definitely going to be a one-term president. It’s going to be easy to take him out,’ they’re obviously political illiterates – political idiots, let me be blunt,” he said.
That may explain why Huckabee and others haven’t been eager to jump into the race. I suspect they’re waiting to see how the coming budget confrontation plays out between Obama and Washington Republicans before making their final “go/no go” decision
At Intrade, “investors” can “invest” in markets trying to determine the chances that Arctic ice in 2011 will be greater than that in 2007 (43 percent), whether physicists will observe the elusive Higgs Boson particle by 2012 (12 percent) or whether the U.S. will adopt a VAT or sales tax this year (25 percent). The people willing to put their money on the line have made Obama almost a two-to-one favorite to win re-election.
(BTW, Sarah Palin is given a 7.4 percent chance of winning the GOP nomination, down from a peak of 28 percent; Herman Cain has a paltry 0.3 percent chance. But as the famous political prognosticator Lloyd Christmas would point out, Cain does have a chance.)

“Pregnant women should be told that having an abortion is safer than continuing a pregnancy, health experts have said.
Guidelines drawn up by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) for doctors, nurses and counsellors involved in terminations, state that “women should be advised that abortion is generally safer than continuing a pregnancy to term.”
Perhaps controversially, the draft guidelines also say that women should also be informed that “most women who have abortions do not experience adverse psychological sequelae” as a result of the procedure itself, but are related to pre-existing mental health conditions.
The guidelines have been drawn up by a working group made up of members from the RCOG, the Royal College of General Practitioners, the British Pregnancy Advisory Service and Marie Stopes International.”

Obama will win re-election in a cakewalk. The economy has stabilized, his approval ratings are edging back over 50%, and -most important- the GOP is held hostage to a right-wing fring that only about 20% of voters can actually get behind. Whoever runs against Obama next year will be a sacrificial lamb, much as Dole was vs Clinton in 1996.

Today’s Tucker and Bookman are perfect bookends on a season of Republican euphoria giving way to gradual misery.
Yet frankly the fact that prospects look so good for Obama in 2012 is hardly a good sign for our future. Some of the most craven and calculating Realpolitik will be rewarded and many of the most desperately needed structural changes will remain unaddressed.

He’s is one of the best according to historical research….Woodrow Wilson was also a great president, Nixon and Reagan were no where near the best presidents in recent times…that title goes to B. That may well be the case, but polls, and the American public, are very fickle. I researched Harry Truman and his name was mud when he left office. Now he has a very favorable approval. And without a college degree (especially the Ivy league variety) to boot. JFK was one who was revered, but a more objective look shows flaws like any other President. The Bay of Pigs was a disgrace. Also, imagine if a POTUS nowadays appointed his brother Attorney General.
A better view of Bush will some in about 20 years. He may still be in the bottom 10 like you say, but revisionist historians and a fickle public have done strange things.

Actually I believe you’re missing the point about Obama just a little.
Far from allowing him to run amok, four more years will in fact give him ample time to implement his left-right fusion agenda, the results of which will be incalculable. Perhaps inertia will be permanently enshrined as our government’s modus operandi. Or, to envision what this future might look like, perhaps we ought to turn to science fiction. Maybe Obama will be the Jeff Goldblum and the country will be his fly, destined for monstrous deformation in a fusion project of radically opposed species.

Well, if this Obama gets elected to a second term I’m going to volunteer jm and Big D and RW and a whole bunch of people to leave this country for good.
Anyhow, I don’t have time to do all this fancy research on the odds. I got a real job. I don’t get to go to the airport to feel women up or look thru a microscope all day and set behind a desk and act like a big-shot. This is quite depressing but most likely true unless something significant happens between now and the election. The only really bright light is that Republicans will win additional senate seats so Harry “Get a Clue” Reid can go silently (almost anyway) into the night.
With Republicans having majorities in both Houses the potential damage of an Obama second term is greatly reduced…

Just because our beloved Tom Price had three or four or maybe more little malpractice problems and wants a little help from us to limit his and his fellow doctor’s liabilities for causing miscarriages and such things is no reason what so evah to be mislabeling him as a witch doctor. Incompetent perhaps but certainly not a witch. Why I doubt he has evah even held a broom.
