Indiana GOP appears ready to shove Dick Lugar overboard

“If Dick Lugar, having served five terms in the U.S. Senate and being the most respected person in the Senate and the leading authority on foreign policy, is seriously challenged by anybody in the Republican Party, we have gone so far overboard that we are beyond redemption.”

– John Danforth, former three-term Republican senator from Missouri and UN ambassador under President George W. Bush, in a November 2010 interview

“Today, with their permission, I present you with the names of the 77 percent of the Republican chairman of Indiana who are willing today to support me in this campaign. What’s important to note also, is that the remaining twenty-three percent are not telling me they’re committed to Mr. Lugar; they simply have a policy of not endorsing in a primary…. Honorable Chairmen, Republican leaders, Tea Party activists and friends, we must begin, because it IS OUR time, and so I’m proud to announce to you my candidacy for the United States Senate on behalf of the Great People of the Great State of Indiana!”

– Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock, announcing his 2012 primary challenge to Lugar

In 2006, Lugar won re-election with 87 percent of the vote; the Democrats didn’t even bother to put a name on the ballot against him. In his previous three Senate elections, Lugar won with at least a 2-to-1 margin of victory.

But if Mourdock really does have the public commitment of three-quarters of Indiana’s GOP chairman — and there’s no evidence on which to question his claim — Lugar is in big trouble in next year’s primary.

PSEU’s gave about 88% of the contributions to Dems.

Which was completely dwarfed by the lopsided amount given to the GOP by corporate interests.

So, that explains it!!!!! Painting Obama as anti-business and anti-capitalist gives the appearance that he’s trying to destroy the GOP’s primary funders. That makes it perfectly ok in a tactical sense to try to destroy the Democratic funding base. I see the whole picture now.

from your link:
Similarly, the legislation would require hospitals, nursing homes and other health care facilities to report how many of their patients are illegal immigrants, what treatment they received, the cost and dates of that treatment and information on if and how they paid for their care. That information would be published annually on the state Department of Community Health’s website.

That would be a clear violation of legislation passed more than 10 years ago called the HIPPA law. Not only that, you’re actively cheering on adding additional regulations and burdens on places that already have enough regulation and paperwork to deal with.

Oh well, I guess burdensome regulations are ok if it’s not a business that pads your campaign coffers.

First, jconservative, the Murkowsky name was well-known throughout the state, and relatively favorably. Next, she almost won the GOP primary in the first place. Third, the Democrat in that race was pathetic, so independent voters had no place to go. Fourth, the Murkowsky was generously assisted by both Miller (in gaffs) and the mainstream media in their attempts to minimize the guy.

I suspect I saw a wider breadth of companies and cases and I know what was discussed behind closed doors on the management side.

It might be a great idea to you, however in the eyes of the law, it’s illegal. Medical providers can not legally provide that kind of information. There’s this think called privacy that people here like. That’s one of those laws to protect privacy.

Dave

I don’t think HIPPA has anything to do with legal status. It’s all about protecting the privacy of patients and medical records. Any attempt to weaken it might lead to people trying to subpoena or open record request other people’s medical records. That’s one slippery slope I don’t want to see get greased up.

10.) You take a week off to protest in Wisconsin and your office runs better.

9.) On a snow day when they say “non-essential” people should stay home you know who they mean.

8.) You get paid twice as much as a private sector person doing the same job but make up the difference by doing half as much work.

7.) It takes longer to fire you than the average killer spends on death row.

6.) The worse you do your job, the more your boss avoids you.

5.) You think the French are working themselves to death.

4.) You know by having a copy of the Holy Koran on your desk your job is 100% safe.

3.) You spend more time at protest marches than at church.

2.) You have a Democratic congressman’s lips permanently attached to your butt.

1.) You pay more in union dues than you do for your healthcare insurance.

If BP had not plugged that Gulf well, we could have all had free oil. Darn those EPA people and Obama for demanding that oil well be plugged.
