A little holiday travelin’ music, to say thanks

It’s getting time to slide into the Thanksgiving holiday, so I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to all those partake in our sometimes vigorous discussions here, as well as to those who merely lurk in the shadows, agog and perhaps a little intimidated at the extreme erudition and beautifully crafted prose displayed by our regulars.

Or something like that.

Anyway, in the immortal words of Sam and Dave, “I thank you,” and have a great holiday. Catch you on the flip side.

“Cuse me but. is Fred still here?

About that OYSTER DRESSING recipe, I don’t cook by recipes . That’s why my family likes to “eat out”. But I do make dressing sometimes. Just throw together a bunch of cornbread, saltine crackera and hard bread all in little pieces. Soak ‘em with chicken broth. Add lotsa celery& onions & sage & poultry seasoning and a couple of eggs. and S & P. Then add oysters (Lots of them if cheap. Just a few if high $$) Stir together until it looks like mush. Dump in greased pan. Bake at 350 degrees until brown and a little bubbly. ( Black is not good .)

If you prefer the elite, Paula Dean has recipes on google I am told. GOOD LUCK!
———————————-
To Mr. BOOKMAN….Thank you for the kind words. At least you did not call us conservatives “dittoheads”. I appreciate your restraint. And….Have a lucious Thanksgiving with all the turkey you can eat. You are welcomed to use my oyster dressing recipe. Save some for Josef. It brings back such good memories for him.

Than ks Dusty. I cook most of my stuff by “feel” as well, but when I try something new, I use a recipe the first time and then make it “mine” after that.

I’ll try that some time. It’s too late now. I’ve already been to the store (and didn’t get oysters) and I ain’ta going back now. Not on the night before Thanksgiving……………… I forgot the vegetable stock, but by the time I could get back through the line I can make my own faster.

During today’s Glenn Beck radio show Sarah had to be corrected by the host on the current hostilities between the two Koreas.

CO-HOST: How would you handle a situation like the one that just developed in North Korea? [...]

PALIN: But obviously, we’ve got to stand with our North Korean allies. We’re bound to by treaty –

CO-HOST: South Korean.

PALIN: Eh, Yeah. And we’re also bound by prudence to stand with our South Korean allies, yes.

But here is the GAME CHANGER.

A slip of the tongue? Maybe, maybe not. But in John Heilemann & Mark Halperin’s Game Change there was this telling point which suggests otherwise.

She knew nothing. She had to be taken through World War I, World War II, the Cold War, and Palin was not aware there was a difference between North and South Korea. She continued to insist that Iraq was behind 9/11; and when her son was being sent off to Iraq, she couldn’t describe who we were fighting.

You’ve been reading the latest edition of Liberals Believe It or Not publications. They are so far left their reporters are all left handed people. Yep!

Women have long known the subtle act of not letting everybody know how smart they are. They let the little gentlemen proudly correct the slightest error while they smile gently. So it is with Palin.

While our well versed president stacks up hair-raising debt by the trillions, she rises in the polls with a smile and family values. She came out of a tough environment and the piping little pipsqueaks just entertain her.

So smile, babeee… Sarah is out there and coming like an Alaskan avalanche. ..

Breaking news out of DC…

(AN) A DC airport was closed and put on high security alert. Authorities at first believed the airport had been infiltrated by an “undi-Bomber”. A US Senator is said to have been caught up in the commotion and brief panic.

Senator Vitter (REPUBLICAN) was chosen by TSA agents for an enhanced security screening after his body scan indicted a possible breach. Shouting “Do you know who I am?” Sen Vitter was forcibly patted down. During the search of Vitter’s groin area agents discovered they were dealing with the poopi-Bomber, not the undi-Bomber. “The smell is something I’ll never forget,” said a stunned TSA agent. “He was wearing a full diaper.”

Because he broke no laws Sen Vitter was allowed to board the plane.

Yes, a federal jury has convicted Tom DeLay of money laundering and conspiracy to launder money. He can get up to 99 years on the first charge and up to 20 years on the second.

Yet another Republican crook. So much for his claim that the charges were “politically motivated.” An impartial Austin jury didn’t think so.

And yet more sweet revenge for the havoc that Newt and DeLay’s Contract on America wreaked on this country.

Disgusted/Rightwing Troll:

About Delay’s conviction.

I read 2 to 20 and 5 to 99 years with probation a possibility. A lot of circumstantial evidence according to the NYT.

Prosecutors presented a mountain of circumstantial evidence – emails, telephone records, calendars, brochures and other documents – trying to persuade jurors that Mr. DeLay played a leading role in the plan and intended to break the Texas election law from the moment his political operatives solicited the donations.

Circumstantial Evidence defined is also known as indirect evidence. It is distinguished from direct evidence, which, if believed, proves the existence of a particular fact without any inference or presumption required. Circumstantial evidence relates to a series of facts other than the particular fact sought to be proved.

The jury struggled with the conviction. Only after hearing a tape conversation between Delay and the prosecutors from 2005, did they conclude he was guilty.

“Jim Ellis told me he was going to do it before he did it,” Mr. DeLay said in the interview.

The problem?

He also presented evidence to distance Mr. DeLay from the actions of his political operatives, arguing that while Mr. Ellis told Mr. DeLay about the transaction, Mr. DeLay never gave his approval.

DeLay’s attorney plans to appeal. He says the conviction will never stand up under an appeal.

We shall see.

well, there was a reason, and i think that’s pretty obvious… not to count the tax increase i guess i’ll be getting in the next month and a half…seeing as 255,550/yr is being “rich” and all…oh yeah, and when my power bill doubles after the cap and tax bill, that’ll be nice too.. it’s funny, i was born and raised here, a southern Democrat, and that party left me a long time ago..and when Dr Hardmann and President Carter called a few weeks ago and asked if i was going to donate my customary 15,000 dollars, as i have for the last 12 years, i told them both, “you’ll have to get it from Obama, i’m going to be sending it to him from now on, he evidently knows how to spend my money better than i do myself”.

HD, if you ever have a chance to see Ricky Van Shelton do it. I always kind of liked his stuff, but never saw him in concert. But then once I did. As someone who has seen over 1000 concerts and played in professional bands roughly for 5 years, I can honestly say that he ( Ricky Van Shelton) is one of the best live acts I have ever seen. He’s amazing. He’s like the Grateful Dead were (whom I’ve seen live), his studio albums are a poor representation of what he does live.

I’m sad to say that I never saw Merle, or Waylon or Twitty. Jones has always been one of my fav’s but I only saw a bad show from him. He was a bit drunk (a BIT?).

George Jones is a great singer, when he’s on (or was, been several years since I saw him). Merle is no-nonsense. Comes out, says good evening, sings his songs, says goodnight and leaves. He has so much stage presence, that every eye in the house is on him, the whole time. And I saw Conway when this song was skyrocketing up the charts. It’s not even my favorite song of his, but I’ve never heard an audience explode at the opening line of a song, like they did that night.

Thanksgiving, probably one of the greatest of American holidays. When you are with your family, take in the moment and squeeze out every millisecond of being with the ones you love.
My parents, god bless them, grew up during the great depression. Now as they approach the twilight of their lives, they must struggle again through this great recession. In my family we all have our health, which is really the true wealth.
Tonite, I raise a toast to Mr. Bookman and his family, both his personal and the other family that is this universe, a seventh dimension opinion portal which you may come and go, but leave your thoughts within.
Remember those who have passed and the millions of poor souls in this country who are suffering, may god have mercy…amen

If it walks like a duck… Once again not a single solitary “conservative” refudiates the appearance of impropriety…

just to be fair, I am equally disgusted that the “leftists” have decided to reaffirm Pelosi’s “leadership” and haven’t really refudiated Rangels improprieties… Washington is a corrupt pile of poo, and it’s not just because of the “leftists”… Delay was amongst the worst of the career politicians, and while he may have stopped just short of crossing that line into criminal enterprise, his methods and actions must be refudiated by those who would “take our country back” or they lose what little credibility they had. Folks like Pelosi, Rangel, Newt, and Delay are all part of the root causes that plague Washington.

The social net has become a bit more frayed. Soon extended unemployment benefits will cease and 2 million Americans will have to dip into their savings, if they have any. This is an outgrowth of the effects of free trade, globalization, offshoring and outsourcing. We have lost 8.5 million jobs over the last ten years to this destructive process. We have seen more than 42,000 manufacturing plants leave the country as well.

There are now more than 17 million Americans unemployed and the U6 official government unemployment figures 17%. If you remove the bogus birth/death ratio, the real figure is 22-5/8%. Over that ten-year period we have lost about 5.5 million manufacturing jobs or about 1/3rd of that labor force. As recent as 1985, 25% of output was in manufacturing, now it is close to 11%. America’s physical infrastructure is in a shambles, so that transnational conglomerates can bring us cheap goods to suppress inflation and bring these companies mega-profits, which they keep stored offshore to bypass taxation. They presently have $1.7 trillion in such profits.

Remember those less fortunate who are suffering.
—————————————————

That is so true.

Also everyone please remember the corporate victims of outsourcing/offshoring.

The many people in the call centers, IT staffs, etc. and the other members of the middleclass that have worked for years for the corporations loyally only to see their jobs disappear. AND remember all those companies that have engaged in these processes this holiday season and BUY AMERICAN MADE PRODUCTS.

Then when I pulled the turkey out I found that it had no innards. I always use the liver and gizzards in my gravy. Not today I’m not lol. At least the neck was there to make the broth to make the gravy. Dang turkey still needs to soak for 2 more hours………. So instead of Thanksgiving lunch (or late lunch) we are having supper lol.

He weren’t too skittish HD. He would let us get surprisingly close to him. I’m thinking someone had been feeding him. In the woods you can’t hardly get anywhere near a turkey but he came walking up the middle of the street towards us like he owned the joint…………..

@Nerds: LOL that’s my favorite kind of Turkey…….. the liquid kind………

Too bad I missed the music throwdown last night. HD came up with some good ones. “Celebrate Me Home” and “Sea of Joy” stand out. I heard this Joe Walsh song on the radio yesterday and it brought back memories:

Interesting happenings in S.Korea. The defense minister resigned per requested. US asked China to tell N. Korea to ‘lighen up Frances’. I wonder if this will impact any offshoring done there. Probably not as the workers there are considered expendable just like us. SIGH

We had a wild turkey cruising through our cul-de-sac a couple of weeks ago HD. I started to try to noose it for today but my 8 year old daughter wouldn’t let me. I wonder where it came from? I mean we live ITP and there ain’t exactly open fields or woods anywhere around………….

Don’t let Matti know. She says she can shoot a turkey’s nuts off and not mess up the meat (or did she mean a republicans lol). That is a woman after my own heart.

Hey y’all,
The dinner is over and blessedly, so is the clean up. I had told USinUK yesterday morning that we would have four generations together, but as I stood at the head of the table, we actually had five generations at the table. 1. My Mom, 2. My wife and me, 3. my daughter and her husband, 4. my grand kids, 5. my two great grand kids. Ain’t life grand?

Oh yes, and we are all or will be born again liberals… :D

Have a great evening and from my heart, may all the good spirits smile down on you.

Just got back from a great feast with the in-law outlaw Indians…got a big ole platter of scrumptious leftovers…all the kids and the grandkids were there…perfect weather for sitting on the deck, sipping wine, watching the little ones rolling about in the raked leaves with the dogs, football shouts from the den, musicians playing…fun watching the new members of the family trying to figure out what they had gotten into…juicy gossip…a lot to be thankful for,,,

Life indeed is good . Returned from daughter’s after trying to keep up with 7yr old grand baby’s energy playing a ball game with me! It was wonderful to sit around and just exchange info about families.

It sounds as though everyone had a great day. We returned awhile ago from a great get together and for a change I didn’t have to cook Thanksgiving dinner. Us guy’s watched football and drank a little too much beer and bourbon ( mine as always was on the rocks). Just finished my holiday cigar and off to zulu land in awhile. Once again Happy Thanksgiving, remember those less fortunate and those who serve our wonderful country as I know y’all do.

Happy Black Friday, all.

It sounds as though everyone had a great day.

Aye, Del. Five over for T-day dinner at our place. More dishes than I necessarily recall at the moment.

Extremely thankful for so much that is still so right about life in these days, for all the complaining and criticism I may offer when vexed by current events.

At best, it would have been a far, far better Thanksgiving had I not prepared the driest turkey that I had ever overdone. At worst, A stick-to-the-throat course of cous-cous and polenta stuffing cursed our Horn of Plenty. I think that I shall never see a blander pie than my apple-cranberry. Of course, I know now what came first: the egg nog and rum. My guests rummed and rummed until not a creature was stiriing, not even their spouses. And as I pondered weak and weary, the beds they’d need this midnight so dreary, a craven thought came to me from over the river and through the woods: shall I volunteer to host the feast ever again?

Nevermore.

Enjoy Black Friday and all the shopping that comes with it.

Here is how I am enjoying Black Friday.

I am taking my 10-year-old and her friend to go rip-sticking at a local park.

If “rip-stick” is an unfamiliar term, see also:

I am thankful for public parks. I think it is fair to say that if it weren’t for liberals like Frederick Law Olmstead, such things would not be available to us.

(And life would suck mightily, as it did in the Middle Ages, by all accounts.)

Those friggin’ Liberals… Always spending money on useful crap that conservatives use too!!! That ride looks wicked too. If I tried that, I could see a need for healthcare reform since I’d have a few broken bones, sprains, and/or contusions. :)

Have fun dB!!

I grew up in Mayretta within walking distance of a public park, way back when kids could go unescorted by an armed guard.

It was a great place for the parents to send their kids when we became annoying, I just couldn’t understand why they always gave me a sleeping bag LOL

I have a streak of over 50 years, of never going near a store on “Black Friday”. I see no need to break it today.
