“President Barack Obama does not deserve a second term, American voters say 49 – 43 percent, and he is in a statistical dead heat with possible Republican challengers Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. President Obama leads Sarah Palin 48-40 percent….
In a mythical Republican primary Ms. Palin gets 19 percent, including 25 percent of GOP women, followed by Romney with 18 percent, Huckabee at 17 percent, Gingrich at 15 percent, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty at 6 percent and Daniels, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour and Sen. John Thune of South Dakota at 2 percent each.”
Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, points out that although Palin is leading the Republican field, “she is very unpopular among independents and although she recently said she thought she could defeat Obama, the data does not now necessarily support that assertion.” Palin is viewed unfavorably by 51 percent of voters overall and 54 percent of independents.
The problem, however, is that 74 percent of Republicans view Palin favorably, the highest favorability of any GOP candidates tested. Only 17 percent of Republicans view her unfavorably, suggesting that the nomination may be within her reach even if the presidency is not.
The details of the poll are also revealing:

Palin outpolls Obama among white voters by 47-41 percent. Among male voters, the two candidates would be tied 44-44. Among voters aged 35-54, Palin would lose by only 1 percentage point, and she would win by 2 percentage points among voters with incomes of more than $100,000.
Really.

i dont think that skin color.. gender.. should be an issue in the election process, but it will always be i am sure. it would be kind of nice if you could keep your candidate sealed in a box with a generic speaker for all.. only to know whom youve elected after you open the box.

A lot can happen in two years. For example, Obama might wake up to the fact that attempting to compromise with Congressional Republicans after the first six months of “NO EFFIN WAY, we want you to FAIL!!!! ” was just plain stupid. If he keeps up this BS corporate-enabling, traitor-appeasing centrist garbage, I won’t vote for him either.

Yes, there are abuses at “for profit” colleges. But there are lots of abuses at “non-profit” colleges also. SCAD being a prominent one among them. Default rates at a lot of non-profit colleges are as high or higher than for “for profit”. So what’s the difference? Well, in Obamaland, profit is bad.
If the rules were applied to both equally, I’d say fine. But not in Obamaland. Profit bad. Losses good.
Jesus he’s dumb. Anyone want to know how SCAD gets their money out of their “non-profit” school?

While I agree that polls this far out mean nothing, the fact that 40% of the electorate would even consider voting for Sarah Palin in a presidential election simply serves to reinforce my belief that as a nation we have lost the ability to make a rational voting decision.

The cost of insuring against losses on Portuguese government bonds climbed the most in almost two months as traders look past the bailout of Ireland to which country will be next to require assistance.
Credit-default swaps tied to Portuguese debt jumped 29.5 basis points to a one-week high of 447 basis points, the biggest increase since Sept. 27, according to data provider CMA. The contracts, which reached a record close of 478 basis points on Nov. 11, have widened about 148 basis points in the past month.

Democrats playing crass politics with Monetary Independence. So are Republicans. Wow, breaking news.
Frank Defends Bernanke, ‘Appalled’ By Republican Criticism
Share Business ExchangeTwitterFacebook| Email | Print | A A A
By Steve Matthews and Margaret Brennan
Nov. 22 (Bloomberg) — Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, said he’s “appalled” by Republicans who he said have sided with foreign central banks in criticizing Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke.
“I was appalled to see a group of Republican economists from the Bush and Reagan administration” arguing against the Fed’s asset-purchase program. “Republicans are joining the central bank of China in attacking Bernanke. This is really distressing to me.”
Frank, who spoke in an interview today on Bloomberg Television’s “In Business with Margaret Brennan,” called the Fed program to purchase $600 billion in assets through June “a very reasonable thing” that isn’t fueling inflation, as Republican critics contend.
A group of 23 people including former Republican government officials and economists published a letter to Bernanke urging him to halt the expansion of monetary stimulus because it risks an inflation surge. Separately, John Boehner, nominated to be the next House speaker, and three other Republicans leaders last week sent Bernanke a letter expressing “deep concerns” about a policy they said risked weakening the dollar and fueling asset bubbles.
“I wish we had some more fiscal stimulus,” Frank, a Massachusetts Democrat, said. “In the absence of that, given unemployment, given the complete absence of inflation, he is doing a very reasonable thing.”
The Fed on Nov. 3 said it was expanding record stimulus to try to reduce 9.6 percent unemployment and keep the inflation rate from dropping further. China, Brazil, South Africa and Germany have said the injection of cash into the system may weaken the U.S. dollar.

I tend to go with the Urban Disctionary’s definition of multi-tasking:
Multitasking: A nice way to say that you’re doing many different things at the same time. And since no one can divide by zero, that means you’re doing many different things half-assed.

Imagine that! Whites would rather vote for inexperienced Alaskan Sarah Palin instead of an intelligent, educated black man? Obviously the intolerance, stupidity and racism of the American voter has been greatly underestimated. We should not really be surprised because these are the same people who believed in the tooth fairy WMDs and voted for Bush TWICE! If you thought Dubya’s ineptitude destroyed our economy and foreign policy quickly, just wait until Palin’s brand of anti-government, pro-business corruption takes control. Here is the breakdown, no Democrat can run against Obama in the primary and be successful in the general election. It is simple, the negro vote is too imprtant for the Democrats and Obama is their man. If someone beats Obama in the primary the negroes won’t urn out in large numbers in the general election and that would seal doom for the Democrat. (Author’s note: I admire the negroes and consider them to be my absolute equal. In fact, I have a very close friends who are negroe women in Brasil.)
Now that said, we must consider the Bloomberg factor. If he runs, that opens the door for Governor Palin. If Bloomberg and and Hillary run Governor, Governor Palin is a shoe-in given her monolithic support within the GOP.
The interesting part is Governor Palin’s shrewd rehabilitation of her image through the books, reality show, and, yes, Bristol successful turn on DWTS. She may well be able to take Obama on head to head in two years, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Personally, I side with th negroes in that it would be unconscionable if the Democrats do not renominate President Obama, even though I believe Governor palin would be a more effective President. Then again, Ol’ Wyld Byll has always had an ample softside for the pretty girls.

sorry bubbo. I’ve read the research and seen the data. I’m not going to pull the data for you. Do it yourself
+++++++++++++++++++
Me too. My families main income comes through Higher Education. We were involved in starting AIU here in Atlanta and got first hand experience of the scam it became.
How are the graduates of Le Cordon Bleu fairing after graduating 80-90,000 in debts? How are they making payments with their $10 an hour kitchen jobs? Those are just 2 examples on an endless list. The “traditional” (lol) non traditional institutes like phoenix and Devry are successful becasue they DON’T perpetuate fraud. They are exceptions though, not the rule.
But you “read research and data.” I’ll continue to live it and experience it first hand.

I’m reminded of a quote by Camus, “Stupidity has a knack of getting its way.”
Instead of going for one of the worst potential candidate b/c they have name recognition, why not go for the best possible candidate who may be less well known. The Republicans seem to think this is 2008 with the same lame candidates that the American public rejected.
They would be better served coming in with new blood.

Deep Throat, please do some research and find the number of bills Mr. Oabama pushed with tax cuts for samall businesses, more lending for small businesses and tax cuts for businesses who hire. You will be amazed that thses bills were passed in one house but died before they could reached the floor of the other house, or they were fillibustered or the threat of a fillibuster was presented by the oposition party. Remember Rush Limbaugh saying he wish the president fails, and the Republicans have been carrying Rush’s water since inauguration day. Contrary to popular belief the president is not a dictator, and ours is a republic with all the trappings of a senate, due to the fillibuster rule, merely requiring only one senator who can derail almost anything if it benefits that senator’s party event to the detriment of the American people and the economy.

Though he’s portrayed as a liberal, it’s not clear what he’ll fight for, and he keeps that deliberately vague, perhaps hoping to deliver on the post-partisan promise his election represented. The fight over whether to extend Bush-era tax cuts is a perfect example. The White House needs to settle on a strategy and then execute it, whatever it is. Hope is not a strategy, and the extent to which Obama seems to weigh the political considerations of whatever decision he makes reinforces the voters’ disillusionment that rather than leading, he has instead become part of the government—an implicit admission of his failure to bring about the change he ran on.

If anyone’s playing the race card, it’s the right. Always claiming people voted for him “just because he’s black,” continuing to bring up fake anti-white scandals, accusing the left of voter tampering, feeling oppressed in any way they possibly can…. all this is a political game and a strategy to get people to vote because they are ANGRY at anyone who is not their race! I guess they figured it wasn’t enough to use the evil L-word, LIBERAL! Now they have to use the R-word, RACIST (especially in cases when it cannot logically apply).

Fine. But judging by that 91% in the ‘Black’ column who are for Obama, he can do anything he wants and he will still have the black vote.
I think you’re forgetting just how much Obama won by in EVERY demographic in the 2008 election. It was practically a landslide. I bet the “black vote” for him is lower in 2012 than in 2008, but I still think he will win by a much larger margin than Palin in such a matchup.

Obama and his far left policies have certainly been frowned upon by most of the informed electorate. He is leading us down a path that the majority of Americans don’t want to go. Excessive spending, more entitlements, higher taxes, weak leadership, and a forced takeover of health care just don’t go over well with the folks. He is certainly on a collision course for defeat no matter who the Republican nominee is. He has certainly proven that on the job training is not a good idea in leading the most powerful country the world has ever known. It could be Palin, Gingrich, Pawlenty, Romney, or Huckabee. They would all defeat him because of his policies and glaring lack of leadership. Gingrich would mop the floor in a debate obviously because he would be the Republicans most cerebral candidate. Obama basically sticks to talking points if he don’t have a teleprompter to tell him what to say and that would hurt him if he went up against someone who would challenge his points with divisiveness.

Please name his “far left policies”. More specifically name policies that he has advocated for as President, that were not part of his campaign, that would now be considered the far left. And please be specific…not generalities like “Excessive spending, more entitlements, higher taxes, weak leadership, and a forced takeover of health care” which are purely subjective.
Actual, independently verifiable policies that differ now than when he was elected.

I call BS and shenanigans on at least half of what you said there. Excessive spending? Higher taxes? Takeover of healthcare? Please do explain, because the facts do not back this up. Of course one poster is right in subjectiveness. Excessive spending could mean beyond a certain amount, but when you compare it to Bush you will not find the same margin. Higher taxes didn’t happen, that’s for sure, unless you’re trying to say he didn’t CUT them as much as his predecessor. And takeover of healthcare… unless you see placing certain regulations as a “takeover” that makes no sense.

Jay, the obvious point of your title is to insinuate that the white people who support Palin are racists. I therefore presume that the title of your next “column” will imply that black voters are racists because 95% of them favor Obama over Palin. Nevermind, I forgot that the only people genetically capable of racism are white.

Is is because black people weren’t CONSIDERED as CITIZENS until 1964 (and still not considered as constituents by Republicans now!!)??

Interesting
Powell, like other commentators, believes the new Republican ascendancy could end in the breaking of political gridlock because it spreads the responsibility to get things done between both parties, giving both a reason to compromise and achieve.
But, Powell said more than once, this is a period of uncertainty in a tempestuous political system. “It’s always been tough in political life,” Powell said. “The founding fathers did not create a system that was supposed to be smooth and easy. It was always supposed to be a clash of ideas — people believing in something and fighting for it.”

Actually, Adam…it’s a bit of both…particularly since 1964!! Prior to then, the black vote primarily went to the GOP because of their being the “party of Lincoln” and the Democrats were the segregationists. When Goldwater’s conservatism merged with the Dixiecrats’ cpnversion to the GOP, the voting patterns changed! The “old Demrcrats” became Republicans….and the “liberal Republicans” became Democrats!! From that point forth, Nixon’s “Southern Strategy” along with Reagan’s support for segregation ensured the voting paradigm would consistently be tinged with racial animus…….

Jewcowboy: Let’s start with healthcare. Health care in and of itself is a policy. Specifics could be forcing people to buy it or face fines imposed by the government. This is certainly a far left policy and gives the government more power over our everyday lives than ever before. When the government creates a law that forces you to do something it infringes on your livelihood. Of course someone who adores policies of government intrusion would look at this and say it is wonderful.
The automotive takeover: Taking over a private industry using tax payer dollars to prop it up is another easy example of a far left policy. It’s not the government’s job to waste tax money for the sole purpose of buying votes in support of unions. Anyone with a brain understands that this was a big payoff to keep those enormous pensions afloat for union members.
Cap & Trade: If you don’t believe this is not far left then you’re not worthy of an honest debate. This would force us all to pay more for energy whether it be heating your home or fueling you car for no apparent payoff. Unless forcing people to scrap up every dime just to be able to go to work would make a liberal feel good about themselves that is…
I could go on and on but arguing with a liberal is like arguing with a stop sign. It’s pointless….

I didn’t see that part in Jay’s column. I’ve seen 95% used most often by conservatives here when they want to point out Obama’s support in the Black community. Hell, Obama could have 100% support in the Black community and it wouldn’t get him elected. We make up 13%-16% of the population of the US. When you take into account the disproportionate amount of that population that has spent time in jail, you may be talking about less than 10% of eligible voters in the US. Obama could flip the Black population the middle finger and get elected. Previous presidents have done as such with no problem. Obama’s only 50% African, and that’s not of the African-American strain, so he only get’s a 50% discount on the “Hood Pass”.

2012 is a long way off. Whatever the polls say today is irrelevant.
If you believe what Bookman and the media have been spouting off the 26% of the Republican Party that DOESN’T like Palin must be the entire Party leadership! Nonsense! Jay or a poll saying independents don’t like Palin is just as much nonsense. This poll is NOT an election.
The Republicans might use Palin like the Democrats did Hillary; i.e., allow her to siphon off all the energy of the opposition and then slip in a charismatic newcomer to the scene. So many potential scenarios could play out, it’s just too soon for this nonsense.

I dunno. In the open primary states, there’d be pockets of crossover dems looking to start up trouble, but I doubt it would be enough to really make much of a difference.

To HDB. Nice try with the blacks vote for 100% white before Obama. Wrong. Whenever you have an available black candidate blacks will vote for that person. Obama received over 90% of the black vote over Hillary Clinton in the primaries. What about Jesse Jackson? In 1984 he received 77% of the black vote and then in 88 he received 92% of the vote and he’s an idiot. Face it your always going to vote black if there is a candidate. Health care – or more specifically making it mandatory for everyone to buy a private insurance companies policy or face a fine….are you sure you want to say that forcing people to participate in capitalism is a left wing policy?
Auto bailouts – http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1208/16740.html Bush was left wing…interesting concept…was Sen. Richard G. Lugar left wing as well when he helped write the legislation that bailed out Chrysler in 1979?
And finally Cap and Trade – you do realize that cap and trade is a market based approach to cutting pollution which, rather than providing penalties, provides economic incentives for cutting emissions? Essentially cap and trade is a capitalistic way of dealing with pollution rather than “command and control” regulation. I thought the “conservatives” were all for capitalism over regulation.

I hope the GOP nominates Sarah Palin and she selects Russ Limbaugh as her running mate and the home grown terrorist group(s) known as the “tea party” whose weapons of choice are hatred, fear and rage/mob mentality against minorities, women, gays & lesbians, Muslims and Jews. The whole world saw their hatred and rage on display during the 2010 midterm election. The whole world saw their lack of respect for President Obama by calling him names (Obozo, Barry, Obamacare, etc. ) and showing up at town hall meetings with loaded guns and wearing stuffed monkeys on their back. The whole world saw a new level of terrorism never before experienced by the American People when the “tea party” inspired many white Americans to vote for the entire republican ticket regardless of the canidates experience across this country. This “fear” tactic used by the “tea party” movement was designed to “take our country back” which was the battle cry used to recruit white Americans who felt disenfranchised due to the economy, lost of jobs and the election of President Obama. The whole world saw America take a giant step backwards regarding civil rights and human rights. Thank God for President Obama.

Forget about healthcare: the statistical illiteracy of Americans is the real threat to National Security:
Here’s a guy who’s a pro:
Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute: Palin is leading the Republican field, “she is very unpopular among independents and although she recently said she thought she could defeat Obama, the data does not now necessarily support that assertion.” Palin is viewed unfavorably by 51 percent of voters overall and 54 percent of independents.”
But lets look inside the numbers: when ALL the demographics are added together, the president gets a thumbs up from 44% of indies and Palin 37%. That’s a difference of less than 1:10.
Sixteen months ago Obama had 56% of independents in his corner and Palin (atfer leaving office in Alaska)–well, actually only two months ago about 30-33%% of Palin as “arrogant” ,”inefficient” or “foolish”.
For those of you keeping score at home and I know you are, Obama has seen a 22% loss in the independent column while Palin has seen a 9% increase in support among independents: that’s a 31% swing in her favor.
The question begs asking “If Palin, while gaining traction with independents, has 37% looking at her favorably, and is considered “very unpopular among independents”, what words would you use to describe the president’s stature among independents who are abandoning him? Is he merely considered “quite unpopular” with the same group or “relatively only marginally less unpopular” since the difference in appeal is now only 1:10 favoring the president over Palin?
Be wary of these guys who tell you what the numbers mean.they’ll also tell you how long you can expect to live with cancer or your odds of having a heart attack because you dormed with a guy in college who smoked a pack a day.
It’s called “Probability Theory” for a reason.

Jewcowboy while the government did bail out Chrysler in the late 70’s, early 80’s, it was a loan guarantee and not an entire takeover of the company. While Chrysler did pay off their loan early and with interest, the taxpayers should not have been put into that much risk. GM got itself into this pickle because its idiot managment negoiated inferior terms and benefits with the UAW over a long period of time coupled with the fact that they were much to top heavy in terms of their corporate structure and could’nt design and produce cars that people wanted. The govt should have let GM go to bankruptcy and work its problems out that way instead of screwing the bondholders & stockholders. Capitalism will work if they just let it.

State and local governments connected to plants provided tax concessions, and Chrysler was required to adhere to tight government supervision after they received the loans. ”

The healthcare law requires large group health plans to allocate at least 85 cents per premium dollar to medical care, not administrative costs or profit. Plans for individuals or small groups must spend 80 cents per dollar.
If plans do not spend that much on care, policyholders get a rebate. HHS said on Monday up to 9 million Americans could be eligible for up to $1.4 billion in rebates starting in 2012.
Wow! No wonder Republicans have vowed to bring down that healthcare legislation that Obama and the Democrats passed into law. I mean, how’s a Republican supposed to make money under those conditions. It’s awful. They may as well just line up the Republicans in front of Democrat death panels and read off the verdict — death to your greed. It’s horrible, I tell you. What’s a health insurance executive to do! How can they possibly return a 25+% yoy return to their investors under such conditions. I see futures in fainting couches going through the roof. I’d take Palin over Obama. But I would take Mitt Romney or Bobby Jindal or just about any other Republican over Palin.
Why the obsession with Sarah Palin, Bookman? Much like the right wanted Pelosi to be minority leader…. the left wants Sarah Palin to be the Presidential nominee. The right realizes that people hate Pelosi so much that they will deliver Republican huge gains in the house to make sure that it doesn’t happen. The election of NP as minority leader guarantees Republican rule until the Dems elect a different leader. Similarly, the left wants Sarah Palin to run, knowing that she is a polarizing figure both for the centrist middle and for the Republican party. Here’s news for you Jay: IT ISN’T GOING TO HAPPEN. The right is far to smart to nominate a non-starter like Sarah Palin. Anyone… such as YOU and Cynthia Tucker and the MSM… who harps on her shows their true colors. It’s your own wishful thinking for her to run. She’s the “Howard Dean” of the right… YEEEEEOOOOWWWWW! She will make headlines, but she is unelectable. The problem with that theory is that the GM that did the IPO owns all the capital assets – plants, dies, etc. Dont get me wrong; we could not let a million workers be unemployed….nor we could allow a heavy machinery industry die that we may need in wartime……..but the Chrysler model didn’t (to the best of my memory) recapitalize by wiping out the old debt and telling the former investors/owners “tough”. And by the way, if old “properties” were a deal (not the capital equipment) everybody would be lining up to buy the old Doraville plant, along with the environmental issues that come with it…

And yes, about 95% of blacks will vote for a black if given the choice unless of course the candidate is one of those “tom” type republicans. You know, the Rice and Thomas “kind” of blacks( neither who were elected but were appointed by Republicans) but you know the “type”. The numbers to prove it are there as revealed in the the 2008 election. 95% of blacks voted for Obama in that election and 95% still support him to this day even though he has proven he is not an effective American leader for anyone of any skin color and blacks aren’t doing any better than anyone else under his leadership. Are blacks racist because they only vote for blacks if given the choice? Does voting for a person only because of their skin color make them racist? If so, then there, we have the answer. If this is the case then blacks are racist or at the very least they are “bigoted” (which in reality is an inter-changeable term for racist). If not, then what can be the explanation? Is it racial pride? I think a few well known dictators and tinpot leaders have used that old one to their advantage quite nicely in the past haven’t they and we know how that turned out. We all know how much white racial pride groups are hated and laughed at (as they should be)don’t we? But shouldn’t black racial pride be just as abhored? If not, then why? Are whites more “mongrel” than blacks therefore they have no right to racial pride? There are no races of people upon this earth that have not endured terrible hardships and downright slavery throughout their histories. At one time or another, every group of people have suffered because of who they were and most importantly what they were. We have a strange way of handling race in this country because in todays world certain groups are singled out as being victims to be coddled meanwhile other groups that have suffered just as much or more have no moral grounds at all for expecting special treatment. The cruel reality of todays and tommorows world is going to change all of that. In American today, the harm that is being done to the black community is being done by the black community itself. Black on black crime is rampant. Most (70%) of the black children are born to one parent households. These things cannot be blamed on white people and these things are terribly destructive.

I have to run, but a last thought. In Chapter 11 procedures stockholders are the last to be paid out, and in the case of GM, with about of $90B of debt more than assets, there is no way they would ever have been paid back.
That is risk in the stock market…and that is capitalism.

Why worry about what 95% of Black voters think or do? What you should be thinking is “How do I reach out to that 95%” instead. It’s not like almost all Blacks agree with Obama simply because of race. That’s just as logical as all people hated the healthcare bill because they thought it was socialist. Neither statement or conclusion is factually correct.
People try to explain things in black and white context that can not be explained that way. It was partially a symbol of pride for American Blacks to finally see one who would be considered us to get elected POTUS. Not because we did it, but because there were Whites who believed in him as well. How do you think the Italians felt when the first Italian-American was elected to a high office? How about the Jewish Americans? People need to quit harping on the Black issue. The Black community has voted 100% in previous elections for White candidates and almost 95% for Democratic candidates. Was that based on race? Did anyone make a racial issue out of that?
At one time or another, every group of people have suffered because of who they were and most importantly what they were. We have a strange way of handling race in this country because in todays world certain groups are singled out as being victims to be coddled meanwhile other groups that have suffered just as much or more have no moral grounds at all for expecting special treatment.
Questions for you… How long were Anglo-Americans prosecuted on this soil? Native Americans? African-Americans? Do you know the origins of the word picnic? When was the last Black person lynched in the US?
If we were living in some racially harmonious society, you might have a damned good point. However, look up the names Michael Donald and James Byrd Jr. Those two were lynched in 1981 and 1998 respectively. If you didn’t already know, I just answered the last question for you. Care to try any of the others?

Ding, ding, ding, ding….. We have a winner!!!
But Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., a longtime critic of the TSA, counts among his campaign contributors some of the companies that might take the TSA’s place. In the past 13 years, he has received almost $81,000 in campaign donations from political action committees and executives connected to some of the private contractors already at 16 U.S. airports.
Mica’s spokesman says those contributions have never influenced his decision-making. As the ranking Republican on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Mica is expected to lead the panel once the new Congress convenes in January.

The number of Americans viewing Sarah Palin unfavorably has hit the highest point since she burst onto the national stage over two years ago, according to a poll out Friday.
The Gallup survey conducted in the days after the Nov. 2 election found more than half of Americans — 52 percent — hold a negative opinion of the former Alaska governor. Only 40 percent viewed her favorably, which ties her lowest score from about a year ago.
Palin, the GOP’s vice presidential candidate in 2008, is among Republican names being floated as a possible presidential pick in two years time. The poll found she might have a good chance of capturing the nomination: fully 80 percent of Republicans have a positive opinion of her.
She might have a harder time in the general election. Gallup found 81 percent of Democrats and 53 percent of independents viewed her unfavorably — while fewer than four in 10 view her favorably.

In relation to casting the vote for “one of ours.” Of course that factors into it. A Jew, Southerner, American Indian, or Gay does get some extra points in my evaluation when considering a candidate. I’d like to say “no” but I would be lying if I did. It’s not my deciding factor, but it’s there. And it’s just as likely to operate the opposite way…I wouldn’t vote for Lieberman for dog catcher because of something he did which, looking at it from the Jewish perspective, I found highly offensive and “not speaking well for our people.”

Just as curious as Session’s non-response to the suit are some of those Republicans who have jumped on board. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) was a co-sponsor of the Wyden-Bennett bill. During a June 2009 appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” moreover, he was asked what, exactly, was wrong with the individual mandate.
“There isn’t anything wrong with it,” he replied, “except some people look at it as an infringement upon individual freedom. But when it comes to states requiring it for automobile insurance, the principle then ought to lie the same way for health insurance, because everybody has some health insurance costs, and if you aren’t insured, there’s no free lunch. Somebody else is paying for it.”

What if he and his family had to pass through this system like the rest of us?

Why does Boehner, who flies commercial, get to skip the BS the rest of us have to deal with?

WASHINGTON — These days, when we think of George W. Bush, we think mostly of what a horrible mess he made of the economy. But his even more tragic legacy is the loss of our moral authority, and the transformation of the United States of America from global champion of human rights into an outlaw nation.
History is likely to judge Bush most harshly for two things in particular: Launching a war against a country that had not attacked us, and approving the use of cruel and inhumane interrogation techniques.
And that’s why the two most essential lies — among the many — in his new memoir are that he had a legitimate reason to invade Iraq, and that he had a legitimate reason to torture detainees.
Ouch! That’s gotta hurt. Then again, some people in these parts are so deep in denial, they’d come closer to seeing light by digging on through to China and popping their little heads out, like a mole. That reminds me. Whack a Mole, every chance you get. It does a body good.

Dusty, calm down. Take a deep breath. Feel better/ Now read the BLACK parts. Those are the ones with the words. The white parts are blank. The black parts of that story said the Ref stood over the girl while waving others away like the RULES OF THE GAME say he should. She was fine. Mom on the other hand is a helicopter parent and has no problem that a good old fashioned ass whooopin’ wouldn’t cure. Had she slapped ME, she would have not left that field under her own power. How do you know whether or not it has happened already? I’m pretty sure if something like that happened, it would be a while before the public finds out the details. If you want to kill the already shaky economy, just break a news story that someone had an actual bomb in the airport. One thing that our screening procedures does is that it acts as a deterrent. Notice that any and all incidents inside the US have been nowhere near any airport? Why try to attack something that’s heavily defended when you can do something in an open place like Times Square where the security is nowhere near as tight?
If you DON’T know what a muslim looks like now, YOU NEVER WILL.
It’s not the Muslims that you see and can easily detect that are the ones you need to worry about. If you go back and watch the video of the two going thru airport security in Maine, they both have on button down shirts and slacks. Mohammed Atta and Abdulaziz Alomari are the two I’m talking about. Atta was the supposed ring leader. I can’t find the video, but anytime they show a video of the 9/11 perpetrators going thru security, it’s always these two.
One shot of them going thru security.
A closeup of them going thru security.
As far as finding any explosives, why would you think a president would try to take advantage of that? There’s been two different presidents since TSA started. How do you know which president was in office if something was found? Sometimes, national security trumps the media’s need to sensationalize for ratings.

And my point to you is how do you determine who’s a Muslim just by looking at them? Islam is the preferred religion of 1/6 of the world’s population. The religion is practiced in countries all around the world by people of all ethnic backgrounds. You need to be at the Pentagon if you can look at someone and determine if they’re Muslim or not. You’re the one that doesn’t seem to get it? Are you trying to say profile the people who look Middle Eastern? As I said, Islam is practiced all around the world by all different ethnic groups, so there is no “Muslim look” that can be defined as one specific look. If you’re trying to say profile everyone who looks Middle Eastern, then that is not the same as saying profile people who look like Muslims. There are Middle Easterners who are practicing Christians, Hindus, and other religions. You should really study up more on the subject if you want to appear knowledgable.

Health care and Cap and Tax: Let me educate you. Neither of these policies have anything to do with capitalism. Capitalism is producing a product that the public needs and making a profit from it. Not forcing people to buy something that many may not need. Not forcing people to pay exorbitant amounts for energy just to make enviro wako’s feel good about themselves. The government forcing anyone to do something that isn’t necessary is a far left policy. Plain and simple. If you don’t think cap and trade for is not a far left policy please say hello to the Wizard for me in the land of OZ….
About the auto bailout: Bush did push for this but in a totally different way than it was implemented. Bush supported regulating salaries but of course the unions who Obama bows down too wouldn’t go along with it. Their two plans were different in many ways. Look for GM and Chrysler to come begging again in a few years.
Honestly all you did was provide an excellent example of how debating a liberal is like arguing with a stop sign.
By the way here’s another little nugget. How can wanting to try terrorists in civilian courts for crimes committed in an act of war not be a far left policy? How are more special privileges for homosexuals through hate crime legislation not a far left policy? How about the stimulus waste that has miserably failed? How about apologizing for America’s greatness continuously even when on foreign soil? Again no one who is an informed voter would not think Obama has even an inkling of moderation in him. He is a far left loon just like all the people he surrounds himself with….

Sarah Palin was mayor of a city of 8000 people. She then parlayed her position into gov. of Alaska – one of the lowest populated states in the country. It is also a state that gets more federal money than almost any other state. She leaves office because alot of people do not like her there and she can make a ton of money in the private sector.
Now if someone in their right mind can explain how by history, by temprement, or by just plain old common sense that this person has any business thinking of hirer office ? She comes off as an ill tempered, know nothing who covers her ignorance by refusing to talk to journalists who had previously asked her “what she read”. She is offended by the question and now refuses to talk to those people. At least we know the new spelling of her first name – COWARDLY Ignorant Palin

Jim and Don’t Forget, you are the reasons this country is in such a mess!! Your special Obama was nothing more than a COMMUNITY ORGANIZER and Chicago politician but he is black and you adore that!!! Sure he speaks well and is apparently intelligent but his common sense is a ZERO!!! He had his chance to lead this country but flopped on his face, maybe we should give someone with more common sense and a little less intellilect their opportunity now. Remember, the conservative and independent voters have just spoken loudly!!!

Tom, the financial system was collapsing and we were losing 600,000 jobs a month. The auto industry was collapsing too and the toxic assets that wall street generated were spread throughout the entire economy. Just how would “common sense” have fixed that? It’s as if you think the problems this country faces just need simple fixes. Are you kidding me?

Reference your BS TOM comment, as Bill O Reilly says, I am a simple man who is one of the folks. Sounds exactly like Sarah Palin to me That is what 95% of this country is, not the fabulous intellect you portray Obama as(mentioned above). All those great accomplishments does not make a great leader for our country, as we have seen for the last two years. Honestly, I would still like her if she was BLACK!!! The smartest and most intelligent is not necessarily the BEST for all situations!!!

My last thought of the day before calling it a night. Please explain to me why white people will generally vote for strong black candidates but black voters will not vote for the white candidate?? The greatest percentage of black voters always vote for their own race, even if he is not the best candidate?? Be honest, don’t want to hear some BS made up response??

Joe: By the way here’s another little nugget. He is a far left loon just like all the people he surrounds himself with.
I can see you just buy into the GOP talking points. Well done on thinking for yourself and being an “informed voter.” Stimulus waste? Special privileges? Apologies? All that is false. Shame on you.
Tom: PS Probably should not say this, but you liberal lefties would probably support her if she was BLACK!!!
No I wouldn’t. If she was the same idiot, and black, she would still not get my vote. Aside from that, your obsession with the false idea that blacks always go for the black candidate is absurd. You have only ONE presidential election to base this on. ONE. In that same election, the greatest percentage of ALL demographics voted for “the black guy.” You cannot even come close to a conclusion of race being a significant factor based on a single presidential election. I would not expect you to understand that already, since you have compared your own intellect to that of Sarah Palin. God help us if that’s really 95% of this country.

For those Obama voters criticizing the legitimacy of a Palin candidacy, at least she has a solid platform to run on (i.e. securing the border, domestic production of oil, national security, etc). Sounds more viable than the Obama “hope and change” platform that he never fully explained as to what that entailed (sadly we are all now paying that price). I would more than likely not vote for her, but she makes a more legitimate candidate than Obama did in 2008. I foresee a Republican taking office in ‘12, perhaps Romney, Gingrich, or Pawlenty. The referendum on Obama doesn’t stop in 2010.

Let’s just pray that everyone can understand that President Obama is the most intelligent president this country has seen in decades and if we listen and stop getting offended by his color you may see that he’s really trying to help most of us (middle class and lower class people). WHY ARE WHITE PEOPLE SO AFRAID OF THIS BLACK AND WHITE MIXED MAN???? All you people see is COLOR no matter how good he’s doing or trying to do. You know God is going to make it to where all you white people who hate Obama will have no other choice but to thank this BLACK/WHITE man for what he has done for this country. It’s true that the majority of black voters (90+%) favor Obama. I am perplexed as to why that is and why more black voters aren’t Independent or Republican voters? The Democratic party has essentially harmed the black voter more than helped him/her over the past 30 yrs. Have they eradicated housing projects and helped advance those people into nicer living conditions? Have they eradicated the issues within inner city schools? Have they eradicated gang-related activities in inner-city neighborhoods? The answer to these questions is a resounding no. If it’s not working then try something else, vote out of your comfort zone for a change.

Given what a milquetoast President Obama has proven to be (I DID vote for him, and still would, given the choices), I think the prospect of Sarah Palin’s becoming president follows H. L. Mencken’s prediction that eventually we will elect a complete moron to lead the country. The trouble with that is, where do you go in a straight-line succession from non-leader to ignoramus? What can follow a complete ignoramus (like Palin)?

No, you just didn’t pay attention to his platform. The reason i voted for the guy had everything to do with his platform from before the primaries even started. I read up on all the candidates and what he wanted to do most closely represented what I wanted. That’s the way it should be. Nevermind the fact that he fulfilled every campaign promise that I paid the most attention to, that had very little to do with the major bill passages. (in other words, I’m not talking about health care or financial reform, even though he fulfilled those promises as well).
Jason: The Democratic party has essentially harmed the black voter more than helped him/her over the past 30 yrs
Jeez talk about delusional. What fantasy do you live in, what are you smoking, and can I have some? DO you really think the GOP can have better results on all those issues you mentioned? They are opposed to doing ANYTHING to help minorities or anyone they consider “lazy.” This is true regardless of what one candidate may say. They vote as a party bloc right now and it’s always about who’s lazy, who’s getting a handout, etc. They are out of touch with the majority of the American public and don’t want to help anyone but those they DO understand (rich people, corporations, etc).

Palin is not the right choice. She has a role, which is to keep the issues in the fore front, to be a lightning rod. The better choice has not become clear yet, but Palin is not the one.
Obama is very disappointing, more than I could have ever imagined. His lack of leadership skills are at the same time amazing and frightening. People need to make wiser choices during the next presidential election. It should not be a popularity contest for who seems the coolest or has the best abs. We need someone with PROVEN leadership skills. Obama is/was not the one.

Jay, this is what happens when people are brainwashed and manipulated by the conservative media (Fox News) that now controls the country. People never hear the good stuff Obama has done with health care or the stimulus or student loans. Because the conservative media has an agenda to destroy Obama and the country in the process. They were cheerleading for Bush for 8 years as he destroyed the country, yet you wouldn’t know it listening to FOX News. Bush could’ve shot someone and FOX News would’ve portrayed that in a positive light. Don’t the American people realize they’re being had by a bunch of billionaires who only want to put a few more bucks in their wallet rather then trying to improve education, roads, health care, pollution, etc?? FOX News and the conservatives have hijacked the agenda for this country. Apparently Americans don’t mind $4.00 gas, a housing meltdown, an economic meltdown, a police state, Hurricane Katrina. Because these things all occured under Bush, the worst 8 years in American history. Why would anyone want conservatives back in office after 8 years of Bush??

Skin color should not be a factor in a presidential election? Well, if you recognize the only black president we have ever had is such a dismal failure, then you have got to think that any black presidential candidate in the future is going to evoke memories of Obama. NO, he ISN’T. I’m not black, but Obama is not giving anyone a bad name. Fox and Beck and Rush are all giving him a bad name and you suckers are BUYING it. This “non-leadership” mantra you have going is evidence of that. It’s a bunch of crap. He is a leader, he is leading, it’s just that there’s a huge backlash against a president who is both Democrat AND black, and btw he is also antiChrist and Muslim (if you believe all the hype). It’s all a bunch of BS. Start actually paying attention to him and what other politicians do without looking through the lens of Fox/Rush/Beck/blog sites and you will begin to see this.

I’d bet big bucks that Obama will win a second term. Palin is not smart enough to be the president of anything. Huckabee and his Fox Friends do not appeal to the general public; and Mitt Romney is the ultimate flip-flopper with little substance to offer. Obama’s programs have saved the auto industry and corporate profits have steadily risen– to it’s highest level– with Obama at the controls. The GOP also has a problem with the Tea Party and that will doom them in ‘12.
