A presidential debate, with a twist to the right

The first presidential debate of the 2012 campaign — among hopefuls seeking the GOP nomination — has been scheduled for sometime this spring at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California. It will be co-sponsored by NBC News and Politico, which will provide journalists to act as questioners.

Hugh Hewitt, the right-wing talk radio host, is outraged. (I know, I know, saying a talk radio host is outraged is like saying an NBA player is tall. Bear with me here.)

Says Hewitt:

“Not one of the questioners that could or would be proposed by Politico or NBC would be remotely in touch with the cares, concerns, and passions of the GOP’s primary electorate. The process of choosing a GOP nominee should not be mediated by the left-wing media — again.”

You know, I can see his point, especially in the increasingly closed universe of GOP politics and media. As an alternative, Hewitt proposes a panel of right-wing agenda setters — he specifically suggests Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Michael Medved — to pose the questions.

He continues:

“Beltway liberals asking MSM questions would indeed be different than opinion journalists of the center-right, and I suspect far less intelligent and challenging as the questions posed by my panel, which would probe things like the constitutionality of the individual mandate while avoiding questions from plants in the audience, Santa Claus, and the endless abortion questions which marked 2008’s “debates” and which the liberal MSM “journalists” manufactures to advance the left’s agenda on a four-year interval.”

Again, I think that’s a great idea. Add Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin to Limbaugh and Hannity, and pass me some popcorn! As Alex Massie of the Spectator put it:

“Who doesn’t look forward to the spectacle of Mitt Romney sucking up to talk radio hosts while simultaneously trying to appear loftily Presidential and above the fray? It could be delicious. Indeed, this kind of debate might be much more illuminating than most ‘debates’. Which candidate, if any, will dare to suggest, even mildly, that the Great Limbaugh might be mistaken about anything? More probably, which candidate would most thoroughly abase themselves before their inquisitors?

…. I’d also like to see a Democratic equivalent. Perhaps with a panel of moderators including Keith Olbermann, Katrina Vanden Heuvel and Michael Moore. And then they could swap debates: Republicans grilled by lefties; Democrats by the talk radio boys.

Somebody needs to arrange this! Fox News, I’m looking at YOU!!!

The idea is for right wingers to interview liberals and liberals to interview right-wingers.

Well White man, you didn’t ask me but I’ll give you my take on the Presidency of George Walker Bush.

I cannot think of one single thing he did that was beneficial to this Country, but I can think of many things he did that HURT us.

He ignored an overt act of war committed by the Chinese when they forcibly captured one of our aircraft, yet he invaded another nation for no reason that I have ever been able to figure out. He allowed Bin Laden to escape from Bora Bora. He trashed my constitutional rights with his so called “Patriots Act.” When Turkey refused to let us invade Iraq from the north through their country he went in from the south only which totally negated the “hammer and anvil” plan. This allowed copious amounts of arms and war materials to be evacuated prolonging a war that should never have happened in the first place. He ignored every adviser his father listened to and followed the bad advise of those his father ignored. He made bad decisions based on bad advise over and over and over again.

Do I wish Gore had been elected instead of him? No. but I do wish the Democrats had run a candidate more credible than John Kerry the second time. I mean the Democrats had to really try HARD to find a candidate that could lose the President Bush. But they (the Democrats) can be very determined so they put sKerry up there dooming us to 4 more years of poor decisions.

In a way I I blame this current mess we find ourselves in on the Democrats. Had they nominated a decent candidate to run against President bush he would not have had 4 extra years to screw us up worse.

BTW I saw where the triple-chinned King of Faux News apologized for calling the people at NPR Nazis. In the most timid way possible, of course.

He further went on to say that the boys at the Republican News Network would remain strong allies for the Jewish people.

Maybe he should have asked for a few of their votes, huh? (Since they get such a tiny percentage of them…)
++++++++++
Exit polls indicate that the Jewish voters were 2% of the vote.78% percent of the vote is Catholic or protestant which the Republicans won 54 to 44 and 59 to 38 respectively. Maybe the Dems need to focus on the protestant and the Catholic vote.

“If the Dems have to move to continuously appease the Blue Dogs, then they are moving to the right. However, all it takes is the GOP to shift to the right, and the Blue Dogs have to do likewise to keep their office. Lather, rinse, repeat…”

Not too sure about that one………bluedogs come from moderate districts, and both “sides” know that. So both would have to remain in the “middle” to stay in contention…….if the R moves too far right, the L wins big by staying put.

carlosgvv,

If liberals interviewed right-wingers, I think that interview would be kind of easy. It would go something like this (which I’ve actually seen on the TV of late)

Interviewer: So, Mr./Ms. So and So Conservative (they’d actually say their real name), what specific programs would you like to see cut?

Mr./Mrs. Right Wing: We need to go through all of them and cut wasteful spending, and did I mention that Obama is spending 200 million a day on his trip to India? Well that kind of wasteful spending.

Interviewer: Well, that bit about Obama isn’t true, but could you please answer the question? Which specific programs would you cut?

Mr. or Mrs. Conservative: Well, we need to cut wasteful spending.

Interviewer: Like what?

Mr. or Mrs. Conservative: All of them.

Interviewer: Could you name specifics, which programs or which departments

Mr. or Mrs. Conservative: Well, we need to cut all wasteful spending which is damaging our economy.

Interviewer: Could you just answer the question?

Mr. or Mrs. Conservative: Did I mention that Obama is spending 200 million a day in India?

You get the picture…….

A classic example of Blue Dogs is John Barrow, who proudly stated in his adds that he voted against the TARP, health care, etc. Thus, attempting to gain favor from the GOP back home. These Dems, predominately from the Red States, sucked the life out of the Healthcare bill and to what benefit.
He will never get a vote from the GOP as long as that “D” is beside his name. All he is doing is eroding his party base. He needs to change parties.

I think we ought to let the liberals ask the questions. After all, we saw the uproar of ignorant laughter when Senate Candidate O’Donnell correctly stated that “separation of church and state” is not in the constitution. The sight of the liberals squealing as if someone had thrown an open bag iodf m&ms into the chimp was was too rich.

In exchange, howzabout the intellectual heavyweight, President Obama, sit down for an hour to discuss policy matters with and informed and erudite gentleman such as Bill Bennett. I think America could learn so much more from seeing Obama queried by one who has no tingle in his leg and a logical mind in head than having liberals moderate a conservative debate.

At least I don’t elevate people beyond the status they deserve just because they happen to be on my “side.” It’s absurdly partisan to continously defend and forgive the sins of someone because they have the correct letter beside their name, while vilifying everyone on the other side for all their sins. Kind of like the beatification of Saint Ronnie. He had his good qualities, sure, but despite his speeches to the contrary, he implemented our government’s “borrow and spend” policy, expanded the federal government, ballooned the deficit, moved to limit the freedoms of individuals, and shrugged it off as insignificant when we, for the first time since the depression, saw hard-working families living out of their cars and in public parks.

It sure is boring when the liberals are not trying to change American values and traditions. But that is good! I saw Soros on TV last night but I did not get to hear what he had to say. Do any of you liberals know what your purse had to say?

“You obviously hate the man for some reason, but at least pick out a fault that has some merit, like the color of his skin….or the color of his skin….or the color of his skin…He is the best orator on or off script on this planet.”
