Obama odds in 2012 look better and better

U.S. Rep. John Boehner

U.S. Rep. John Boehner

John Boehner, who is likely to become the next speaker of the House, went on Sean Hannity’s radio show Wednesday to offer a preview of what to expect:

“This is not a time for compromise, and I can tell you that we will not compromise on our principles,” Boehner said….

As for Obama’s own agenda, Boehner promised, “We’re going to do everything – and I mean everything we can do – to kill it, stop it, slow it down, whatever we can.”

Meanwhile, according to a newly released Bloomberg poll:

bloomberg

Four out of five Americans want compromise. The Republicans don’t dare even entertain compromise. This is playing right to Obama’s strength. He will come across as calm, rational and reasonable. The Republicans will either come across as angry and aggressive, or they will deeply disappoint their own base.

Obama will also have history on his side. As National Journal points out, presidents who lose control of Congress in their first midterms tend to gain a political advantage:

“It’s occurred three times in the past 100 years, and in each case the minority party that took control watched the supposedly vanquished president win reelection just two years later. First, Harry Truman in 1948 (after losing 55 House and 13 Senate seats in 1946); second, Dwight Eisenhower in 1956 (after losing 18 House and two Senate seats in 1954, creating Democratic majorities that would last in the Senate until 1980 and in the House until 1994); and finally, Bill Clinton in 1996 (after losing 54 House and eight Senate seats in 1994).”

I do have to wonder if any of the guys shouting “OMG your Messiah HUSSEIN Obama is finished! Peeps HATE him!” have bothered to look at historical presidential approval polling.

I posted a handy, user-friendly Gallup link. Here, I’ll do it again…

That bit about Reagan hitting as low as 35% approval midway in his first term… I dunno, it’s like the shouters just don’t want to hear, or something.

well sure if you’re going to be strict about it, but in j-nix’s context, I think it’d be “the little buggers.”

I don’t think anyone thinks of, or really wishes to think of, elementary age schoolkids as, well, you know, literal, um… you know.

Sir Walter Raleigh lost his head for conspiring against James I

“I’m so tired, I’m feeling so upset
Although I’m so tired, I’ll have another cigarette
And curse Sir Walter Raleigh
He was such a stupid git”

the point is that it’s always referred to by loyal members of Gooperland as “the failed stimulus”, and they won’t be swayed by your silly facts and figures.

from the wiki…

Between 1579 and 1583, Raleigh took part in the suppression of the Desmond Rebellions. He was present at the siege of Smerwick, where he oversaw the slaughter of Italian and Spanish soldiers after they had surrendered.

I’m not generally a supporter of the death penalty, but it’s kinda hard to get worked up when it winds up taking an upper-class twit like Sir Walter.

Maybe TP and sfd need to learn to read,

What part of this is so hard to understand??

“That means that any stimulus money used to cover payroll will be included in the jobs credited to the program, including pay raises for existing employees and pay for people who never were in jeopardy of losing their positions.”

Any idea what the word “never” means???????

Smoke and mirrors for the gullible.

Boehner? This is the man we are willing to put our trust in? Has any truly of you listened to this man (at least trying to act like man and not doing well at all). I am sorry, but in case no one has noted since Obama was elected, Boehner has shown himself to be the bully and nautzi he truly is. He feels the republicans should run government and that the democrates should be done away with totally, who ever made him feel he was the person to make these decisions. He has been the worst in causing the tension between the parties with his demands and threats to the republicans. A republican would not even think of stepping out on the man who for some reason feels he owns the republicans and if they step out of line according to Boehner, they may as well as quit the republican party. I am not aware of a single politician that has been the dictator this man is. He make me sick. I do not claim any party, and I vote for who it is that I feel will do the best job, not just the republicans, democrats, or independents. ,we need a combo of these people to keep our checks and balances in place, there is a novel idea. I would hate to see how negative our country would be and the criminal things McCain would have done with his out of control temper. Just some things that I hope will make others thing who can’t stand up and take a break from their families party, or that of their. It is plain to see that not one group of these people in charge would do any good for our country. Come on, be brave, elect the best officials across the lines that WILL complement those who are in different races, we are not in need of one political party, which anyone knows, but wants to throw their fits to get their own way.
