Since this is pretty clearly going to dominate the innertubes today:
I have no doubt whatsoever that Rand Paul and most of his supporters are appalled by what happened last night. However, I also have no doubt that in this incident and others yet to come, we are reaping the harvest of hatred sown by overheated rhetoric that treats political disagreement as betrayal and political opponents as a dire threat to America’s existence.
And on that point, it’s good to get at least SOME bipartisan agreement, notably here and here.
On the other hand, there have also been attempts to justify it and to excuse it or even celebrate it.

“Reading these comments show how stupid liberals are, if a person ask Obozo why he does not keep his campaign promises at a town hall meeting the first thing out of your hateful mouths is he or she was a plant, now I do not condone physical abuse by anyone, but without seeing the full scene not just a short script I do question the legitimacy, not that I am saying it was staged but I know how you liberals twist and turn the truth, in other words I have come to doubt every word you speak.”
Do you have any doubt that “Deep Throat” is as convinced that his rhetoric is justified as you are?

RB 12:27 – yes. me. It’s ridiculous to assume it was staged.
The guy should go to jail (for whatever the normal punishment is). People should move on.
Jay is highlighting a divisive issue, the reference to violence in politics. Both sides are guilty of violence and intimidation. It shouldn’t be tolerated on either side.
But highlighting it doesn’t serve to fix it. It only further divides people. Of course, sweeping it under the carpet isn’t a good idea either. Oh well.

Typical of Republicans to justify this stomping of a woman by saying it’s “staged.” They have a cynical excuse for everything people “on their side” do. I guess they think the murder of Dr. Tillman in Kansas last year was also “staged” by pro-choice supporters. And, the man on his way to the Tides Foundation with guns and explosives off to kill “liberals” was a Move-on member, staging everything. And, I guess the explosives mailed to the Democratic house member in Arizona, painted with swastikas, that was staged, too. Every violent act by conservatives, explained.

It doesn’t matter is it was staged or not – this stuff does happen and will continue. The question is – how often does it happen? Is it newsworthy? Yes. Does Jay paint an accurate picture. No. Sensational items sell newpapers and now gather hits. This is what Jay is paid to do. People need to do their own homework and not blindly follow their fearless bloggers.

For Rand Paul, his supporters and the rest of the conservative movement this is an opportunity for a very small history lesson. Many of you have no historical backround concerning the Chinese Cultural Revolution or the Red Guards. That being said, I would throw out just one slogan that fits the ideology of Rand Paul and his followers… “Waving the Red Flag (the Chinese flag) to HIDE behind it”. Speaks to the heart of the matter now doesn’t it? I want to thank Paul, his supporters and all who claim to be patriotic Americans for this small graphic lesson in politics.

One thing bothered me about the Cracker Barrel thing…. the woman was a reservist, did she not get the self defense training? Please don’t anyone mention the size or gender difference. You don’t get to fight in your weight division on the battlefield, you have to defend yourself against everything that comes at you. Women cops can control larger people than themselves, was she not trained at all? Just curious, not judging.

But I do have one concern and that is what will the Tea Party people do once they realize that they really don’t have any power to change things? How long will it take them to ‘turn to the dark side’ and jump in the money pit with everyone else?
How long will it take them to realize how difficult it really is to legislate? We all seem to want the career politican to go away but yet we somehow also want experience as well. What will their response be?

RB, “Is there anybody here who doesn’t think that whole video was staged?”
The way our political climate has devolved, it’s always a possibility. Asking the question in cases like this is not absurd. What is absurd is the assertion by either “camp” that only the other side would pull nasty, dirty tricks, and no one on their side would ever stoop to such a thing. Remember the girl who carved ‘B’ into her forehead and claimed the Obama supporters did it? Had she not carved it backwards in the mirror, she might have gotten away with it. D’OH!
The ugliness and willingness to be violent is real, though. And to the sane among us, disturbing. When *I* say “second ammendment light,” I am referring only to self-defense. For political change, I’ll stick to words and common sense, and hope that it catches on.

Now the demagogues who enabled this will wring their hands and decry violence. Just look at some of the comments above. Now, these demagogues really think they can control the rabble. But KKK, Timothy McVeigh and disenfranchisement are the future. This is all well documented by organizations that monitor violent hate groups. And we will be good Germans, looking the other way as our body politic is cleansed of those who are different.

But of course, as you and I know, none of that was true. You had not been banned at all, as your postings here today demonstrate. You are posting today from the identical IP address that you had been posting from for more than a year.

For me, mainly, it’s because there are real-life victims of the real-life Hitler who are still with us, and they and their families deserve to have proper respect afforded to what actually happened during the Third Reich.
But then, I wince when I hear people casually use the term “drink the Kool Aid,” as if the reference to horrific mass murder was something that happened on some TV series, and not in real life.

Hey, the President just sent me an email from the Oval Office. I know how busy he is. That was real thoughtful of him.
James –
“We all have a choice to make in the next seven days.
It’s not just a choice to vote, or a choice to knock on one more door, make one more call, talk to one more voter.
Together, the choice we must make is to continue what we started.
The outcome of this election will determine not just who holds power in the halls of Congress. The decision we make in this election is going to set the direction of this country for years to come.
I need you fired up in Alpharetta.
James, I need you to give it everything you got. And I need your help to power our work until we reach that finish line.
Democrats are running the most ambitious get-out-the-vote program ever attempted in an election like this. Every dollar you can give today will be put right to work to get our message out, to provide the tools our volunteers need.
And every donation will be doubled because it will be matched by another supporter who is giving what he or she can afford.
Will you donate $3 today — and fund the final push?
I know this is a difficult election. It’s because we have been through an incredibly difficult time as a nation, and many are still hurting.
But our opponents in this election are some of the very people who got us into this mess — some of the very people who stood on the sidelines while we worked to clean it up. Now they are promising to pursue the exact same agenda that led us into this crisis.
It’s an agenda that was written by and for the special interests that have fought this movement at every turn. Worse, these groups that stand to profit from the Republican agenda are spending hundreds of millions of dollars to influence this election — flooding the airwaves with misleading ads to attack our best allies.
It’s up to each of us to raise our voices to beat them back.
So if you care about the critical reforms we made to a broken health care system, I need your voice.
If you care about fighting for middle class families, and building a country where opportunity is shared by everyone — I need your voice.
If you care about climate change — and a future where clean-energy technology is built right here in America — I need your voice.
If you share a vision of America that says I am my brother’s keeper, I am my sister’s keeper — I need your voice.
I did not run for this office for the sake of winning an election. And you did not join me in this fight two years ago to quit now.
I know we’ve asked a lot of you in the last few months. You have come through time after time. But I can promise you this: There is one week to go — what all of you do right now will decide this election.
So, if you believe in the change we have made together, I need you to stand behind it. If you believe we are not finished seeking that change, I need you to choose to fight for it.
Please donate $3 or more — and let’s finish strong in the last seven days:
http://my.democrats.org/FiredUp

sfd, excuse my attempt at humor, but effective humor usually has some link to reality, and often a link to a painful experience. ever heard the quip’ “that aside Mrs. Lincoln, did you enjoy the play?” Mel Brooks carved a career out of “Hitler” jokes, and I say bully for him. we need to get passed the indignation and outrage, which I have to say, is usually expressed on the part of liberals who want to “save the whales” “protect women’s reproductive rights”, etc., etc. Hitler was who he was and the Holocaust happened; how Mel Brooks, paleo-neo-Carlinists, or any Holocaust survivors choose to deal with it, is as individual as the experiences themselves. I suspect Derek Dooley is going to get some flack, and be asked to “apologize” to all those who he may have “offended”. and if he is well-coached – pun intended – he will be sure to note “my comments were taken out of context”.

That would have been an embarrassing Kodak moment for the tea partying bully. I wonder if that guy is married and if so, I wonder what his wife thought about that move. Did it bring back memories.

But I imagine she got some high-fives from her friends at Moveon.
As did the repugnant miscreants from their violence-loving pals, as evidenced by the links provided…

Doggone 1:17 – that was interesting. However, see this:
“The list is subjective and imprecise, since frequently individuals or offices might be referred to by the nickname “czar” by some publication or a political opponent, yet the actual governmental official, a majority of publications and others do not use the term.”
I don’t know whether Bush did or didn’t call various people “czar’s”. But I know Obama did. And it was stupid to do so.

Yup, the same bogus intell they told all of us.

@Fang1944: So do we also have a lot of the “N” word goobers?
The contempt for Pres Obama has nothing to do with his skin color just because you are insecure about being your skin color.

and it wasn’t when Bush did it? As far as I know, it’s REALLY more of a “reporter” thing that an administration thing. *I* first heard the term during the Bush admin…and I didn’t like it either. What the hell is wrong with just plain calling them ADVISORS?

Don’t Forget 1:24 – perhaps so. But at minimum, it was stupid Obama PR. I mean, doesn’t a Dem know he has to tiptoe around this kind of issue and nomenclature. Kind of like Republicans can’t go out and say: “I want to sc##w the little people” or “I can’t wait to help big business”. Because there’s already the pre-existing perception they have to avoid.

Thanks for the clarification and example….
You forgot to explain how your speech differs from his.
I do find it kinda odd that you chose to use that particular example.
you don’t see anything overheated about claiming and stating it as fact that Gingrich is more dangerous and less responsible than McCarthy? Wow thats quite a statement!
Tell me again which muslims Gingrich brought before congress on pure speculation and allegations as McCarthy did to those he suspected of Communism.
Nah nothing overheated or overblown about that…
Why Mr. bookman you are the picture of honesty!

@Don’t Forget: The intel was not just from George W. Bush. The Brits had intel as well as other countries. And intel is not an EXACT science, never has been and never will be.
We just have to agree to disagree. I don’t think one man can take the US to war. First of all it is committing political suidie to do so among other things.

Doggone 1:25 – well, I think they’re trying to convey the roles power and authority, even though legally its more difficult since they’re not confirmed by congress. So “czar” helps do that in theory. But surely someone can come up with something better.

How so? It was an accepted term going all the way back to Reagan. How could they have known it would be distorted by Fox. Most people realize that now but Fox got what it wanted, higher ratings and a riled up audience.
