Protester stomped in Ky. Senate race

Since this is pretty clearly going to dominate the innertubes today:

I have no doubt whatsoever that Rand Paul and most of his supporters are appalled by what happened last night. However, I also have no doubt that in this incident and others yet to come, we are reaping the harvest of hatred sown by overheated rhetoric that treats political disagreement as betrayal and political opponents as a dire threat to America’s existence.

And on that point, it’s good to get at least SOME bipartisan agreement, notably here and here.

On the other hand, there have also been attempts to justify it and to excuse it or even celebrate it.

Howdy do, Jay. You are sounding very much like Tucker in her bipartisan appeal on the eve of victory for the common sense Republican/Tea Party coalition. You people have had your chance running on the two failed years of Hope & Change, but the proof is in the pudding. Unemployment still at 10%, forced socialized medicine, out of control spending, crushing national debt, higher taxes, and inept leadership. It is a no-brainer with the American electorate. November 2 is trash take out day. Liberalism in this country is scary notion and we aren’t having it. Your kind of thinking is a European exercise in futility. Now be nice and accept reason once again.

this may sound strange, but didn’t you want just pummel that dude in the blue shirt (or was it brown?) and baseball cap? I mean, he literally kicked a woman when she was down. in the absence of any action on the part of local (Kentucky) law enforcement; I would have liked to see that a**hole’s skull split from forehead to the nape of his neck with a baseball bat or maybe a nice 2′ length of re-bar. has Paul condemned this yet?

The guy wearing the white tennis shoes with his foot on her head should be arrested for felony assault and hopefully she the victim will press charges. Beyond that observed opinion it appeared that others in the crowd were attempting to assist her and she didn’t look to be particularly injured when she made her comments. We certainly have seen a lot worse over many years that technology has allowed for these incidents to be documented live, so I don’t see how this particular one could be a harbinger of growing violence over political disagreement.

4. The “stimulus” failed (No: the CBO estimates it created 1-3 million jobs)
5. Businesses will hire if they get tax cuts (No: They will hire when they sell more products)
6. Health-insurance reform will cost $1 trillion (No: the CBO says it will save $138 billion)
7. Social security is a Ponzi scheme (No: it will continue to be solvent for 25 years)
8. Government spending takes money out of the economy (No: govt buys stuff and hires people)

Just scream lies all day long to One Nation Under educated and filibuster govt to dysfunctionality. At some point the “one side did it before” defense has to stop. True, everyone should have denounced the incident you posted. However, here’s a chance to make up for that miscue. There will be a day when we have to quit thinking of ourselves as Left/Right, Liberal/Conservative, or whatever division that’s used and think of ourselves as Americans.

If you travel overseas and hand a foreign immigration officer your passport, they could care less if you’re Black, White, Liberal, or Conservative. They will call you an American. It’s time we think of ourselves that way.

I’m not justifying it. I am condemning it completely in every way, it’s bad, and I thank God that, despite all the rhetoric, the Tea Party stuff has been non-violent with the exception of this unfortunate episode.

However, I am waiting for Bookman to come down on violence from the left, as there has been far more of it than from the Tea Party. Actual violence, not rhetoric, not opinion columnists talking about how violent the Tea Party is, but actual incidents of violence. There have been several incidents involving SEIU thugs, among others. But Bookman finds one example of some piece of scum calling himself a Rand Paul fan, and expands it to the entire right wing, while ignoring more numerous acts of violence from his own side. And that’s wrong, too.

I hope they get the guy that did this and he spends a long time in jail.

I never knew————————-

Was this fellow, standing in Dealey Plaza with an open umbrella and no rain in sight part of some conspiracy? The House Select Committee on Assassinations located the Umbrella Man — a fellow named Louis Witt who was engaged in a somewhat obscure form of political protest. Here are two graphics, one showing Louis Witt’s umbrella being opened before the House Select Committee on Assassinations, to the general merriment of all assembled. The second shows the Umbrella Man’s umbrella in the Zapruder film in Dealey Plaza. Both of these images are video captures from the NOVA documentary. Here is the first one, and here is the second. Some conspiratorialists claim that the umbrellas are different, having a different number of spokes. Decide for yourself.

What was the point of the umbrella in Dealey Plaza? Apparently it was an attempt to heckle Kennedy with a reminder of the appeasement policies of British Prime Minister Nevill Chamberlain, whose weak posture toward Hitler was supported by Kennedy’s father. Sounds pretty obscure to us today. But this 1930s British cartoon links the umbrella (Chamberlain’s trademark) with weakness toward Nazism.

One of the more bizarre theories about The Umbrella man comes from Robert Cutler. Cutler claimed that the umbrella was a weapon firing a flechette (poisoned dart) that hit Kennedy in the throat, paralyzing Kennedy to set him up for the head shot. Here is Cutler’s drawing of this concept.

Anyhow ,,,,,,,,,,,,,this is much ado about nothing.

One Nation: A lot of your list is BS. For one thing, SS, whether it’s solvent or not, is still a Ponzi scheme by definition. Bernie Madoff was completely solvent- until he wasn’t. And that happens when you run out of suckers to pay for the next round. In the case of SS, we have an aging population with fewer and fewer suckers (young people) to pay for the old folks. And since the old folks won’t let us raise the retirement age, there is a mathematical endpoint, just as there is in an Ponzi scheme.

Please, feel free to demonstrate how social security does not meet the definition of a Ponzi scheme. I’d love to see it, but you can’t demonstrate such, because it IS a Ponzi scheme.

1. Obama tripled the deficit (No: it is lower than in Bush’s last budget)
What planet are you on? The deficit is over a trillion dollars? The last Bush deficit was nowhere near that. Just lie all day why don’t you? (figures, since you’re a leftist and truth means nothing to your kind)

2. Obama raised taxes (No: the “stimulus” contained a big tax cut)
January 1, 2011 would like to have a word with you.

3. Obama bailed out the banks (No: the bailout happened before Obama took office)
Obama voted for it.

4. The “stimulus” failed (No: the CBO estimates it created 1-3 million jobs)
It wasted close to a trillion dollars on leftist pork projects, and our unemployment numbers are higher now than when it was passed. Verdict: utter failure.

5. Businesses will hire if they get tax cuts (No: They will hire when they sell more products)
Our corporate tax rate is the 2nd-highest in the world, after Japan (another nation with current economic problems). That and the massive regulatory bureaucracy in this country are holding businesses back. If you don’t think so, then you have no idea how business works.

6. Health-insurance reform will cost $1 trillion (No: the CBO says it will save $138 billion)
The initial CBO estimates have been proven false, and even the CBO acknowledged that they had no idea how much it would cost once the bureaucrats started writing their regulartions for Obamacare. Insurance companies have already started dropping coverage because of the massive cost of the new entitlements in the bill. Verdict: expensive, wasteful failure that most Americans want to repeal.

7. Social security is a Ponzi scheme (No: it will continue to be solvent for 25 years)
Bernie Madoff’s scheme was “solvent” for awhile too. We started (this year) paying out more in benefits than we have coming in through SS taxes.

8. Government spending takes money out of the economy (No: govt buys stuff and hires people)
Apparently you (like all leftists) think money grows on trees in D.C., or floats down from the sky at Obama’s command. Where do you think the money comes from to “buy stuff and hire people”? From tax payers or by borrowing the money. That either A.) takes money out of the economy (since the taxpayers can no longer spend it themselves) or B.) takes money out of the economy through future interest payments and the need to pay back the borrowed money.

Hey guy’s the Democrats aren’t running against George Bush, they’re just running. Obama has pretty much given up on the blame Bush mantra because it hasn’t worked, now it’s secret donations to the Republican party. Y’all need to get in step.

Did I mention selective poutrage?

The second fight occurred after a Conway supporter stepped on the foot of a female Rand supporter, who recently had foot surgery.

The woman was wearing a surgical boot, but after the injury, her incision was cut open. Police say she refused medical treatment and also filed an assault report.

Del, unless I am reading a differnt ajc.com, here is what JB “said”:
“I also have no doubt that in this incident and others yet to come, we are reaping the harvest of hatred sown by overheated rhetoric that treats political disagreement as betrayal and political opponents as a dire threat to America’s existence.”

to which you responded: ” she didn’t look to be particularly injured when she made her comments. We certainly have seen a lot worse over many years that technology has allowed for these incidents to be documented live, so I don’t see how this particular one could be a harbinger of growing violence over political disagreement.”

1 – you are not qualified to diagnose or comment on the severity or lackthereof, of the woman’s injuries. to do so ignores the true nature of the incident.
2 – at no point did JB use the word harbinger or violence. what he did note was we appear to be reaping the infusion of “hatred” presented as patriotism or love of country into our political process.
3 – enough with the New Black Panther nonsense. you sound like some parent complaining about “bullying” on an elementary school playground. wait, scratch that; two wrongs don’t make a right, or is this like the Braves; you hit our guy, so we plunk your guy next inning?

jm – nice try – if you actually read what the director said, you’d see that rates have DROPPED to be about average with Clinton and Bush – but that they had been running substantially higher when he took office and his first months.

RW 10:51 – One sided story for the media. The recent NY Times articles are way out left too. Maybe they always were, or it is just becoming more apparent to me. Not sure which.

Time for a democratic revolution. Yipee.

USinUK – if you won’t acknowledge facts, I have nothing to discuss with you. The average counts, not a 1 day or 1 week or 1 month blip. You’re probably not aware that our President serves for four years.

You’ve been in the UK too long. Please stay there.

4. The “stimulus” failed (No: the CBO estimates it created 1-3 million jobs)

Ok, divide $787 billion dollars by your “high” esimate of 3 million “jobs created” and see what that number is. Wonder if any of those 3 million jobs pays anything close to the dollars spent per job created. While I’m not a math professor, I’m guessing not.

COLOSSAL FAIL.

So, what percentage of the cost of a highway project or any other project is labor. Simply dividing the cost of the stimulus by the jobs created is sheer lunacy. I guess the highway workers should have brought their own asphalt to work.

Yes, Paul has condemned it.

Well, in the most wussified manner imaginable, yeah.

Here’s what Rand Paul’s press ‘ho had to say, actually:

“We understand that there was an altercation outside of the debate between supporters of both sides and that is incredibly unfortunate. Violence of any kind has no place in our civil discourse and we urge supporters on all sides to be civil to one another as tensions rise heading toward this very important election.”

Between supporters of both sides.

Right.
