The REAL Jay Bookman, the first and the best Jay Bookman, happens to be my father, who’s been dealing with some medical issues this week. So, by the time this shows up on the innertubes, I hope to be driving down the interstate to spend some time with him and his lovely bride of some 55 years and counting.
So tonight’s travelin’ music goes out to my pops, and to my father-in-law Larry, out in California, who’s dealing with his own medical challenges this week. They taught us the way, and they teach us still, and I hope they’ll keep doing so for many years to come, because Lord knows we could still use the help.

Headline (CNN) : “LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) – She’s been called “the female Obama” by some media, and the president even paid her a visit this week to help her political fortunes. Like Barack Obama, she aspires to a lot of firsts.
Kamala Harris is the daughter of a father from Jamaica and a mother from India, and she’s seeking to be the first black woman attorney general of California.”
Two questions and one comment:

I’ve got a feeling about these Texas Rangers. They play good, aggressive, fundamental baseball. They’re an AL team but they basically play NL baseball. It’s been said, and I agree, that any organization takes on the personality of its leader, be it a sports team, a church, business, or whatever. This team has Nolan Ryan written all over it. No pitch counts (Nolan threw 200 pitches in a game several times), starting pitchers who want the ball and go deep in the game, without looking for bullpen help, at the first sign of trouble, and guys who can lay down a bunt, make a productive out, or take that extra base. It’s good to see the influence of the steroid era decling and a return to playing real baseball.
It was fitting that A Rod made the last out. Past history and all.

Juan Williams needs to sue that liberal NPR wretch who fired him for slander when she accused him of needing a psychiatrist for speaking his mind. And Republicans need to de-fund NPR and force those liberals to fend for themselves if they want to silence voices they don’t agree with – like Air America – let the market decide their fate. But here’s a little side note to ponder: NPR’s Tavis Smiley has said that Christians are the most murderous religious populate on the planet. He still has his job the last time I checked.
Government Motors (or UAW Motors) and its minder, Obama, has touted the Chevrolet Volt as an ALL-electric car. But like so many things out of that incompetent administration, it’s just not true. When the car’s lithium-ion battery pack runs down and at speeds near at or above 70 mph, the Volt’s gasoline engine will directly drive the front wheels along with the electric motors. That’s not charging the battery. That’s driving the car. So it’s not an all-electric car, but rather a $40k+ hybrid that requires a taxpayer-funded $7,500 subsidy to get car shoppers behind the wheel.
There are now 10 days to the mid term elections. Democrats are out in full fraud force. Over 6,000 students at Winston-Salem University received e-mails Monday to take advantage of early voting and help the Democrat Party. After complaints, the university officials acknowledged that the e-mail — sent from the student-affairs division — was improper. Did anyone see CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, or NPR report this? Thought not.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has recently stated “lmmigrants should learn to speak German.” This is after attempts to build a multicultural society – the so-called “multikulti” concept – in Germany have “utterly failed”, as Chancellor Angela Merkel said. Another liberal social Utopian experiment goes down in flames. When will Europe learn? Check out France these days and how great socialism is working. The French workers are rioting in the streets because they might have to work another two years before getting their retirement pension. Oh the humanity. Spoiled-assed frogs.
The Blago trial has been delayed until after next year’s Chicago mayor “election.” And I do use quotes there because everyone knows Chicago’s elections are rigged and corrupt. When Rahmbo gets “elected” we’ll see what happens. Yeah he was subpoenaed as a defense witness in the first trial but never called to testify (hmmmmm).

1) Shouldn’t she be called “Obamette” ?
No, she should be called Kamala Harris, Mrs. Harris, or Ms. Harris depending on whether she’s married or not.
2) Why is she black instead of Indian ?
That goes back to the old “one drop of blood” mentality. One drop of negro blood meant that you were black no matter what your parents were. Old habits die hard. Also, maybe she identifies with being Black more than Indian. Or maybe she does not appear Indian when you see her. Why does it matter?
3) My father was Irish and my mother was German. Does that make me special ?

Oh so, we can sue our employer because they fired us for speaking our mind. That’s hilarous. You can be fired for anything and the courts will back them up, even badmouthing the boss on your own time and your own computer. NPR was right to fire him. CNN was right to fire Rick Sanchez. Enough said. End of story.

I found this artice to be a good read.
What Could Cause the Next Recession
A “policy mistake.” If Republicans take over one or both houses of Congress in the midterm elections, as expected, it will probably spell an end to President Obama’s reformist agenda. The conventional wisdom is that such a change would be good for businesses because they’d have less reason to worry about higher taxes or new regulations. But there are also many unknowns that would come with a split government and the gridlock it’s likely to entail.
If a new regime in Washington were to impose some kind of austerity program in order to tackle the national debt, it could shock markets that aren’t expecting that to happen for a couple of years, at least. It would also shock investors if Congress were to let all the Bush tax cuts expire on schedule at the end of 2010, effectively raising everybody’s taxes, since it’s widely expected that a lame-duck Congress will temporarily extend those measure for most taxpayers, if not all. In fact, any kind of move that disrupted government spending, added unexpectedly to the debt or changed much at all could rattle investor confidence. The irony for Republicans who want to rewrite Washington’s agenda is that a continuation of the status quo—including the full spendout of the 2009 stimulus funds—might be what the economy needs most.
Just a little something to think about when casting that vote. If the country’s interest is at heart, who will do what’s best for the country as opposed for the party???

My view on the Constitutional Amendments is this, always beware. I’ve voted under this Constitution and the previous one. The Amendments are almost always worded obtusely and the ones that are ratified, usually have lots of unintended consequences. So if you feel you should vote for one, then that’s what you should do, but if you have any doubt in your mind that it’s a wise thing to do, I’d recommend voting against it. That’s what I do and I normally wind up voting against the overwhelming majority of them.

It looks like a big red muffin….when I plug it in, it growls then stops. How do I know the things not gonna blow up?
There’s a little metal…sticky-out thing with a red rubber sleeve on it, kinda like a lever that can be switched back and forth. I’ve watched my husband flip it after he plugs in it. Is that a safety valve somethin’ or other?
How do I know when it’s in the right position? It doesn’t say on or off.
Is it supposed to growl consistently or intermittently?

When you plug it in, it growls because it’s running; it stops because it’s gotten to the tank shutoff pressure. That’s normal.
The little sticky out thing with the red rubber sleeve, is the on/off switch. Evidently, you have it in the on position. If you change it to off, it won’t run, no matter how low your tank pressure gets.
When your pressure reaches a certain preset level, the compressor will kick back on and run until it reaches shut-off pressure again.
Your compressor should/most likely does have a pop-off valve. In the event that the shutoff doesn’t work and the compressor keeps running, this valve will release pressure to keep the tank from being over-pressurized, ie: keep it from blowing up.
Most of the time, this valve has a little metal ring on it. To test it, just pull the metal ring and it should release pressure from the tank. It’ll be sorta like letting air out of your tire, only with more force. That valve is most likely screwed into the top of the tank somewhere. Sounds to me like your compressor is working fine, from your description.

The little sticky out thing with the red rubber sleeve, is the on/off switch.
The on/off switch is there to protect the motor from the initial power surge that happens when the compressor is first plugged in, so make sure you turn it off when you are done. More than likely it will depressurize while not in use, so when you plug it back in the next time you use it, remember to turn the switch to the “on” position.
If you are using a pneumatic nail gun—I know this is a self-evident kinda thing but, always make sure that your finger(s) are as far away from the nozzle of the nail gun as the length of the nail you are shooting. And Another one…..
Just when you think this president can’t get any more stupid, he goes and re-words our countries founding document so as not to offend atheists. Twice! So you know it is on purpose
And finally……
if Obama uses the name of the Lord, or any title that we have for Him in English, he would have to recite the Arabic blessing that they say after it. This would show the world that he is a muslim. He wouldn’t want to prove to the millions of American Patriots, who’ve been claiming this all along, that they are right, would he? Obamma is a MUSLIM, that’s why he doesn’t utter the name of the Lord in public, and it’s why he doesn’t even place his hand over his heart during the Pledge of Allegiance. It would be honoring and acknowledging the U.S. as a Christian Nation.

About nail guns,
It’s pretty common practice amongst “pros” to disable part of the safety features on nail guns in order to speed up their nailing. One thing I see folks do is disable the safety trigger that is released when you press the nailer against the surface where you plan to drive the nail. Further, I have to disagree with Kamchak’s safety advice in that his advice does not go far enough. Never, ever point that thing at any part of your body. I’ve seen nails do damage from much farther than a few inches away.

Seen many a nail in many a body part – thy shall respect thy equipment.
Had one of my teen apprentices years ago play with the tip safety shooting a nail straight through the finger nail out the other side. Came up to me with zero emotion whatsoever and showed me the nail sticking through his finger. Never said much of anything through the whole trip to the hospital etc. Tough little fella he was.

Hillbilly Deluxe,
People are capable of some of the darndest things. I’ve never shot nails at anyone before but your comments do make me recall one battle we had many moons back. We were under seige by others with some big water guns and were defenseless until I got the bright idea to turn up the air pressure on an air powered grease gun. That thing surprised me when I pulled the trigger and a stream of grease shot out and went a good fifty feet. It made quite a mess.

I saw a guy shoot a potato gun at a moving car, when he was standing almost directly behind it. The potato went over the car but it was traveling much faster than the car. I’d guess the car was going about 30mph, or so.

Back in my really stupid younger days, we would have fire extinguisher battles – the ones with water vs chemicals. Those suckers would go a long way. “Maintenance” finally put out the cease and desist order to fire anyone caught with one as they got a bit tired of refilling them. Great fun while it lasted – so stupid looking back.

TOO LATE, KAMCHAK!!!!
Just kidding. That little rule, I know.
It’s quarter round so I don’t have to hold it, but thanks.
Two weeks ago my neighbor shot a nail thru the meaty part of his hand. Just last week, the guy helping my husband renovate the duplexes, shot a 2 1/2 incher thru his bicep. They just pulled ‘em out and never bothered with a doctor.
Fascinating! They didn’t even cry.

I’m always impressed by the ingenuity of men and little boys. It’s like they’re born with this gift. I went to pick my daughter up after cheerleading practice one day. Paved parking lot…it was a very windy day. A bunch boys had commandeered big industrial mop buckets from the janitor’s supply. They were sitting in the buckets…had tied two corners of big white sheets to the handle and were holding the other two corners in their hands. They were flying all over that parking lot. Zero control over where they were going though.
I…..was…..impressed.
Finished with the molding….now it’s on to sewing trim on a bedskirt.

I’m no expert by any means on nail guns. I finished my basement a few years back and my neighbor let me borrow his nail gun. It worked great for me and like gun weapons you need to respect them and take precaution. Respect is the key operative word, you forget respect and you’re asking for trouble.

Because of the huge surge in expected voting this year, states have determined that Republicans / conservatives will vote on Nov. 2nd only, while Democrats / liberals / progressives may only vote on Nov. 3rd.
Don’t forget which day you’re supposed to vote, everybody!

Headline: “Street Signs Changing Across The Country”
“The Federal Highway Administration is also requiring all street signs across the country to be reflective by 2018.”
1) What a pathetic waste of money.
2) What an unconstutional interference (inspite of what SCOTUS may rule) by the Federal Government in State and Local business. If states choose not to even have street sign that’s no business of the Federal Government.

I can assure you taxpayer that 1/3 to 1/2 of the “straphangers” on this trip do not need to be going.

Headline (NBC) : “Neighbors Wake to Headless Animals Mystery”
“A gruesome mystery came to a Miami neighborhood Thursday morning when residents awoke to find dozens of dead, headless animals dumped down their street. About a dozen goats, cats and different types of birds were laid out on nearly two blocks between 16th Terrace and 15th Terrace on 34th Avenue in Miami. “We all love animals here (one resident stated). This is very, very depressing.”
Hummmm ………….. but I guess the thousands of corpses of aborted unborn children (or pieces thereof) thrown into dimpsty dumpers all over the country doesn’t seem to bother anyone.
