Some travelin’ music on the road to Splitsville

It has been barely two months since a federal judge in California overturned that state’s ban on same-sex marriage, a ruling that inspired dark warnings about the impact it was going to have on traditional marriage.

And sure enough:

christina-jordan-split

Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman ... splitsville

Ben Harper and Laura Dern ... splitsville

Ben Harper and Laura Dern ... splitsville

Cox_Arquette_Separation.JPE

David Arquette and Courtney Cox ... splitsville.

It’s all the fault of teh gays. It has to be, right? I mean, what else could possibly account for it?

Unless of course it was the “lying, cheating, cold-deadbeating, two-timing, double-dealing, mean-mistreating” kind of thing that people sing all the songs about.

(Happy Friday, everyone!)

Probably not your style, but I will go with “The Bleeding” by Five Finger Death Punch….ahhh, memories of my ex.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BAiDKOqfvc

I remember when all the games began
Remember every little lie and every last goodbye
Promises you broke, words you choked on
and I never walked away,
it’s still a mystery to me

Well I’m so empty
I’m better off without you and you’re better off without me
Well you’re so unclean
I’m better off without you and you’re better off without me

The lying, the bleeding, the screaming
Was tearing me apart
The hatred (deceiving), the beatings; it’s over

Paint the mirrors black to forget you
I still picture your face and the way you used to taste
Roses in a glass, dead and wilted
To you this all was nothing
Everything to you is nothing

Well you’re so filthy
I’m better off without you and you’re better off without me
Well I’m so ugly
You’re better off without me and I’m better off alone

The lying, the bleeding, the screaming
Was tearing me apart
The hatred, the beatings (disaster); it’s over

As wicked as you are, you’re beautiful to me
You’re the darkest burning star, you’re my perfect disease

The lying, the bleeding, the screaming
Was tearing me apart
The hatred, the beatings; it’s over
Disaster
The lying, the bleeding, the screaming
Was tearing me apart
The hatred, the beatings; it’s over
Disaster

It’s over now…

And though it is damn near impossible for me to do – and it could change on any given day I suppose – on a lark I decided to try and actually list my 10 favorite rock records of all time:

10 The Beatles (The White Album) (1967) – The Beatles
9 Led Zeppelin (1969) – Led Zeppelin
8 Second Helping (1974) – Lynyrd Skynyrd
7 After the Gold Rush (1970) – Neil Young
6 Tapestry (1971)- Carole King
5 They Only Come Out at Night (1972) – Edgar Winter Group
4 Who’s Next (1971) – The Who
3 Crime of the Century (1974) – Supertramp
2 Dark Side of the Moon (1973) – Pink Floyd
1 Liars (2004) – Todd Rundgren

Anyone else want to give it a try?

For josef and the rest of the gang who are interested in such arcane matters…

On this day in 1844, Friedrich Nietzsche was born.

He has always fascinated me. Particularly his concept of the Übermensch.

From his book book Thus Spoke Zarathustra (German: Also Sprach Zarathustra), the book’s protagonist, Zarathustra, contends that “man is something which ought to be overcome:”

“All beings so far have created something beyond themselves; and do you want to be the ebb of this great flood and even go back to the beasts rather than overcome man? What is the ape to man? A laughingstock or a painful embarrassment. And man shall be just that for the overman: a laughingstock or a painful embarrassment…”

(I’ll not even go into his theories on how this connects to the death of God!)

Way, way, way ahead of his time…
