Well, so much for that ‘New South’ talk, I guess

Two quick points:

1.) Yeah it’s funny, kind of, in a creepy sort of way. For those who may not already know, Dale Peterson is not an actor; he put together similar ads in his bid for the GOP nomination as Alabama’s agriculture commissioner.  Alabama Republicans were perhaps amused, but not impressed; he finished a distant third.

2.) This particular ad was put together by the Republican Governors’ Association, which apparently believes it’s the kind of thing that will be effective in swaying Georgia voters.

Who knows, maybe they’re right. Nick Ayers, the RGA’s executive director, is a Georgian. He ran Sonny Perdue’s 2006 re-election campaign. Paul Bennecke, the RGA’s deputy executive director, used to be executive director of the Georgia Republican Party. So you can’t say they don’t know Georgia, and I’m sure the last thing they want to see come November is their home state governed by a Democrat.

On the other hand, I also remember how insulted Zell Miller used to get over stereotyped depictions of Southerners as unsophisticated rubes. With this ad, the RGA is telling us what it thinks of Georgia voters, and it’s not all that flattering.

The Boner loves this guy Dale! He don’t care much for that accent, though. The Boner’s way too refined for that.

The Boner and Chrissy wants old Dale to come visit. They’ll fix him up with Chrissy’s friend Sarah. Sarah’s CRAZY about her some guns so they should get along just fine.

The Boner says he’ll invite Dale and Sarah to join him and Chrissy on the satanic altar for a foursome.

Pictures, anyone? You betcha!

My husband’s cousin is a Marine. He has several close friends who are Marines. The reason I say “is” and “are” is because they will very quickly tell you there is no such thing as an ex-Marine. Once a Marine, always a Marine.

September 7th was the last day a candidate could file as a write in candidate in Georgia and votes for anyone that hasn’t filed for that status won’t have votes for them counted.

If you write in Karen Handel you are literally throwing your vote away. I’ve seen dozens of suggestions for doing just that and I suspect the vast majority of those suggestions are coming from Barnes supporters. Jay B would be well advised to remove comments suggesting that option and to alert his readers to the ramifications of such a write in vote.

That is because one IS a Marine. One is IN the Army/Navy/Air Force/Coast Guard. Once a Marine, always a Marine. You do not serve in the United States Marine Corps without the Espirit de Corps becoming part of who and what you are, mind, body and soul. The embodiment of what it means to be a Marine does not stop when you reach the end of your service. The Few, the Proud, the Marines is much more than a recruiting slogan.

Army Vet – Maj. Wood :

Depends on the assignment.

Take it up with some of your former Generals:

“The safest place in Korea was right behind a platoon of Marines. Lord, how they could fight!” MGen. Frank E. Lowe, USA; Korea, 26 January 1952

“Why in hell can’t the Army do it if the Marines can. They are the same kind of men; why can’t they be like Marines.”
Gen. John J. “Black Jack” Pershing, USA; 12 February 1918

“I have just returned from visiting the Marines at the front, and there is not a finer fighting organization in the world! ”
General of the Armies Douglas MacArthur; Korea, 21 September 1950

“Lying offshore, ready to act, the presence of ships and Marines sometimes means much more than just having air power or ship’s fire, when it comes to deterring a crisis. And the ships and Marines may not have to do anything but lie offshore. It is hard to lie offshore with a C-141 or C-130 full of airborne troops.”
Gen. Colin Powell, U. S. Army
Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff
During Operation Desert Storm

“The deadliest weapon in the world is a Marine and his rifle.”
Gen. John “Black Jack” Pershing, U.S. Army
Commander of American Forces in World War I

“Do not attack the First Marine Division. Leave the yellowlegs alone. Strike the American Army.”
Orders given to Communist troops in the Korean War;
shortly afterward, the Marines were ordered to not wear their khaki leggings.

” If I had one more division like this First Marine Division I could win this war.”
General of the Armies Douglas McArthur in Korea

P.S. Have you ever read a book about the 7th Infantry Division (Army) and the U.S. Marine Corps (1st Division) at the “Frozen Chosin” and what happened to each? I highly recomment it.

Scout, we go back to the Vietnam era but you mentioned Korea and the Chosin Reservoir. The real turning point in the early months of Korea was when the Fifth Marine Regiment was called upon to stop the N.K.’s at the Pusan Perimeter. Our Army forces at the time we’re just about to be pushed off the Peninsula after suffering several key defeats. After gaining the offensive and pushing the North Korean Army back the Fifth Marines went on to participate in the Inchon landing and in the Chosin.

Dog – “Rudeness is rudeness. I call it as I see it. As I said, there’s no law in changing lanes on the interstate.”

I think your problem was that you didn’t have the brass to get over in to the other lane….that comes from not knowing how to drive on the interstate.

From the latest Monds Email 9/24/10:

By now, you might have heard the great news: we’re continuing to climb in the latest poll with young, independent and dissatisfied voters!

Many people have yet to hear my message of liberty. But when people do hear, they respond with a loud YES!

Every time we reach out to new people, we’re getting a positive response. People want an alternative. You are making it happen!

At the bottom of this message is 11 Alive News’ coverage of my recent numbers in the SurveyUSA poll. Every time these numbers keep growing, the media gets more interested.

Here’s a great example of how you’re getting the word out:

“I heard you for the first time on Herman Caine’s show the other night, and absolutely agree with your platform. I will be voting early today, and I just wanted to let you know that you have my vote!” DeAnna – Snellville, GA

The word is getting out despite the AJC doing it’s best to suppress it.

@RW

Here is one of MANY news stories about insurance companies planning to stop writing policies for children. News reports indicates that many will drop coverage by the first of the year.

You did notice that many insurance companies have applied for rate increases of up to 39% because they wanted to “dig a little deeper” into our pockets before the new rules take effect.

Um. Obviously this ad is dumb and lacking any substance or content. But you gotta love Dale. Entertaining….

I personally like the smart good ole boys that are always underestimated by yanks the best. But I don’t think Dale or Deal fit in that category. DEAL IS DUMB.

Monds has 0 ZERO chance of winning. Deal is a crook and a bad money manager and decision maker. Barnes did fine before. The state could use some balance.

How dumb is Deal? The guy’s in the hole millions of dollars and wants to run GA?

Oh, and by the way, the values in the latest financial release are highly subjective. At today’s values, the guy is insolvent. And splitting his debt obligations is complete hocus pocus if he is “joint and severally liable”.

Oh, so I guess Bush did fine before as well.

@Jefferson.

If Monds does not win,

then Georgia has a 100% chance of a loser as governor.

No Bush did not do fine.

You can remove the if — Monds will not win. Call the Gov what you want.

Agreed. I’ve never seen a high profile election in Georgia where the choice between the two “main party” candidates was so lousy. Shame on the left for giving us Barnes and shame on the right for giving us Deal. At least Handel made it interesting, but the right has handed us a raw ‘deal’.

jm, sounds to me like someone who is “millions in the hole” might have some insight as far as running GA goes. just kidding. maybe we should just leave the position vacant and see if we can’t recruit (I know a good headhunter) the #2 from some other state with a better candidate pool.
