Maybe it’s just an ugly scam.
Maybe it’s a well-coordinated, fairly sophisticated conspiracy among several young men to shake down Bishop Eddie Long, a successful, revered leader who has built New Birth Missionary Baptist Church into a powerhouse of Christian service.
Sad as that would be, it would certainly be the better outcome. Because if the opposite proves true and the allegations against Long are valid, the tragedy deepens.
Lawsuits filed this week by three young men who entered Long’s orbit as mere boys allege truly troubling predatory behavior on the part not just of Long but of those close to him. In short, they claim that Long prostituted the faith he preached and the resources of the church he led in order to satisfy his sexual urges with those who had almost no defense against him.
The allegations include claims that Long, an outspoken critic of gay rights and gay marriage, participated in “covenant ceremonies” in which he and young male parishioners exchanged vows of commitment.
Through his attorney, the bishop strenuously denies all such charges. However, radio interviews and a news conference scheduled for Thursday were canceled, and Long apparently will not address the issue until Sunday, before his New Birth congregation.
In the meantime, Long’s attorney has described the lawsuits as an attack not just on the pastor but on New Birth and its 25,000-member congregation. Church members no doubt feel that way as well, and most have rallied to defend their leader.
If the charges prove false, New Birth is indeed a victim of injustice almost as great as that perpetrated against Long. But if the charges are correct, then New Birth served as an accomplice, witting or unwitting, in a gross betrayal of faith.
Under the circumstances, it’s possible that the truth about the alleged seductions can be established one way or the other relatively quickly. The lawsuits include multiple details of travel and gifts that can be verified or discredited. They cite witnesses who will be legally obligated to testify honestly in court to what they saw or risk charges of perjury. Photos of Long taken by the bishop in his bathroom mirror and allegedly e-mailed to the young men have already been leaked, and other material might be forthcoming.
If the truth is not established fairly soon, however, church elders should launch an independent probe of the allegations. That would be difficult for an institution such as New Birth, which bears Long’s strong and charismatic imprint. But people should never be afraid to seek the truth, especially in a situation like this.
As we all know — as Long himself has no doubt preached — none of us is immune to temptation. We also know that it is human instinct to look up to leaders, both secular and religious, in the belief that they are less vulnerable to the weaknesses that dog all of us.
The danger is that by elevating leaders in our eyes, we elevate them in their own eyes as well. To satisfy our own need to believe in someone better and stronger than we are, we turn mortals into demi-gods and then marvel when they start to act accordingly. Even on the truly humble and well-intentioned, unquestioned faith and confidence can over time have a corrosive effect.
As a young pastor in the ’60s, the late Earl Paulk had been one of the few Atlanta-area white clergy to support Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in his civil rights struggle. His leadership skills helped build Chapel Hill Harvester Church into an institution with national influence, politically and spiritually.
Then came his fall. Beginning in the ’90s, Paulk was hit by repeated charges of sexual coercion much like those now facing Long, devastating a congregation that believed in him.
Heros often fail us, but betrayal by a religious leader is probably felt more intensely than any other. Yeah, Mel Gibson turned out to be a jerk, but really, who cares? Yes, President Clinton tarnished his office and legacy, but most people didn’t feel that betrayal personally. With a religious leader the betrayal is intimate, in some ways as deeply felt as betrayal by a spouse or parent.
But just a year ago, speaking at Paulk’s funeral, Long himself took the opportunity to remind mourners that even leaders are not granted perfection.
“We did not, in case you didn’t know, fall down out of heaven,” Long said. “We were taken from among men so we could minister to men.”

Hey carla christiano,
You are the “stupid one” to believe that his monies came solely from book sales…do your homework and look at what was set up to pay him. Why would the feds be investigating him for book sales. so many become blinded because the want to believe so bad in their leader that they forget it iswhat he is preaching and teaching and no the person who ois delivering the message.

Fat bigot FALWELL DEAD NO KINGDOM. Thes gangsters use their “sheep”. If u let people call u sheep u will get slaughtered, how much more innocents must be molested before the freeks say enough is enough they are BOYS LONG IS 57. If was a shakedwn why would 2 other guys admit gay acts with one who broke into office. the guy did not deny he broke into office, he did it because he found other other boys were married to long in special sacred “covenant ceremony”. 3 youths ina southern state admitting to gay sex is COURAGE! not a shakedown.

Studies indicate the Southerner in particular is very fearful that ‘his’ white women will be so attracted to the “Cult of the Giant Black Snake” they will abandon his ‘tiny’ self. Something similar is at work with the unnatural obsession with gay sex that pervades Dixie in particular. Secretly the gaybashers are gay themselves and dream of domination/penetration by a powerful male, while the women fear losing their males to the gay lifestyle that said males secretly long for. This is the reason homosexuality is the boogieman of Dicksie; all are scared of their own same-sex attractions, God’s wrath, and ridicule and ostracism by people repressing the same attractions. Like Bishop Long, they think the smokescreen of hate will obscure the truth always.

Well, this is the same kind of thing that happened to our Rev. Jim Bob Buice. He’s walking along one day and hears the voice of a young boy stuck in the bushes. He takes his nice clothes off so they won’t get messed up before he goes in to help the kid. When he gets in there, he finds the boy buck-nekkid! Well, he’s just about ready to get the kid out of there when along comes the cops and they slap handcuffs on the Rev. Jim Bob. Make a long story short, he’s off to prison for a couple years and now he can’t be around any kids anymore. That means giving up his preaching. Could happen to anybody.
Anyhow, this Bishop Long thing is a sad story. People shouldn’t hold it against him just because he has a few fancy cars and a big mansion and lots of money. The Lord rewards His servants. It says so right in the Bible and it never says the Streets of Gold need to be in the next life. And anybody could snap a photo of hisself in tight clothes and send it around. It looks bad, I got to admit that, but it ain’t Sinful.
Anyhow, I wonder what kind of Longfellow that Institute was named after.
Have a good day everybody.

Know nothing about this Man of God, his mission, his flock, or the validity of these charges. But I would like to know how he acquired the title Bishop. Did some ecumenical body bestow the title on him? Did he send $ 5 to a mail order title factory? Or did he just pick it like Lady Gaga? After all these years why hasn’t he made it to Arch Bishop? Was disappointed to see King Roy cancel his fund raising appearance with The Bishop. Always admired that Harry Truman stuck with his friend Tom Pendergast even after he was in prison. But Truman wasn’t a lawyer.

Look we need to be by these young man side because they crying for help. I remember Bishop Eddie Long and Bernice King march against homosexual downtown atlanta. What you do to people comes back to hunt you and I am not to judge Bishop Eddie Long but he is no God. It take 3 young men to come out and let everyone know what kind of person Bishop Eddie Long. I’m no theologian, but the (”mega-church” embraced) “Prosperity Gospel” (espoused by hucksters such as Dollar, Jakes & Long) is Biblically inaccurate & unfounded. The “name & claim it” doctrine is fallacious to say the least. I also believe the teachings of Joel “Oscheme”, Joyce Meyer, Benny Hinn & Rick “CFR” Warren to be (borderline) apostate.

People of God we need to be very careful how we PRECECUTE this Bishop without all the facts, even then we need to no that it’s SIN and until we come against that in all our lives we all are subject to do wrong. Let not any of us think so highly of ourselves that we can CRUSIFY this man. Yes it’s all wrong and the legal system is going through its process and it he is guilty he will be punished. But the body of Christ has suffered another serious blow and what of the congregation of that church? What about his soul and the young men involved? What about his family and the family of the young men? We can all say the pictures were UNGODLY and the text messages and emails even though they haven’t come out to my knowledge. These are just outward actions of an inward struggle of sin. Let’s all remember the bible doesn’t qualify the sins of man, WE DO! All sin is going to send us to the same HELL if we don’t get it straight. So to the Christian LIAR.GOSSIPPER, ADUTERER, FORNICATER, and THEFT! We need to be grateful for what God has done in our individual lives in our ongoing struggles and value our relationship with God. Leaders in the bible had their moments of indignation from Moses to David to Paul and Peter. God is at the door you all and it’s not a lot of time for the Church to get together. Remember Judgment is starting at the house of the Lord and that means the Church Leaders first. So to all the lay people who are jumping on the pointing finger band wagon? He who is without sin cast the first stone. A lot of souls are going to be damaged from this, no matter what the outcome is and they along with the Bishop and the young men involved will need much prayer…..

First giveing praise to Jesus who is my Lord and Savior with out him I’m powerless but with him and only him I can do all things through Christ who strengthen me. This is the problem I have with this we are looking at this pastor as a God he is just a vasel that God used to bring forth the word the Bible said many are called but a few are chosen. Most times we appoint ourselves and then we get power happy and then things like this happen due to greed of self pleasures. 2nd Many young boys want to know God but its thisgs like this that make young people change there minds and go another way. God sad who so ever will let him come young people keep coming to the Lord and try the spirit by the spirit to see if its of God. Only follow man as he follows Christ and swollow no man whole now thats Gods word not mine but I so believe it.Be peaceful and God will reveal everything just set back and watch. And to the three young men if this is true no one can judge you keep telling the truth and this will help prptect the next child out there who might want to come out and is scared. you get by not away///

@@, yes and no. the judicial system is not a waste of time for lawyers, but it most certainly is a waste of time for the rest of us. after my jury experience I thought about the “professional juror” angle. in street crime and he said/she said civil cases, it is probably not a bad idea, but in high stakes civil or high profile criminal cases, do you not think someone can “get to the jury”? here’s my idea; number one, no trials for civil cases (divorce, property disputes, breech of contract). ALL civil matters are to be disposed of via arbitration or mediation. most civil cases are at best a pointless dog and pony show, at worst an unjust version of “Liar’s Poker”. on the criminal side, “profit” from justice. in the absence of pro se defense, ALL defendants have a public defender (court employee) as all prosecutors are court/state employees. is our judicial system the work of the Founding Fathers or Adam Smith? let’s take the “free market” out of it. if justice is a Constitutional right, then defendants (civil or criminal) should have access to the same level of representation. think of it as a “salary cap” for attorneys or better yet, a minimum wage (pay them and the judges what the jurors get paid; $25 per day. rememebr the video they show you when you report for jury duty? it tells you how “important” your role is; yeah, well then why am I getting $25 per day, but the attorneys are getting $400/hour? OR, pay me $400/hour to sit on a jury). so, to answer your question, no, the system doesn’t work. even when it “works” (a verdict is reached), it is more like flipping a coin than “justice”. the idea of vigilante justice is interesting, but still has the same “weak link” (people are dishonest).

It is amazingly ignorant for everyone to allow the main stream media to determine Eddie Long’s guilt based on accusations. How would you all feel if someone slandered your name and the verdict of “Guilty” was your judgement before due process. Get all the evidence before you get emotional and make false accusation when you don’t have all the evidence. The fact that the man is wealthy has no bearing on his guilt or innocence.
Why is okay for the rappers to flash bling and the movie stars to live lavishly, but a preacher cannot have a jet without being called a ‘false prophet.’
Money is not evil people–the love of money is– not having money is evil… and most of the ignorant comments I have read have come for so called Christians–where is the Love people.
The truth will come out and the families and the followers will have to deal with the after-effect be it good or bad.

I am not siding with anyone, as we are still awaiting more evidence. My question is, what if these were pictures that Long took after working out to send to his wife or to monitor his personal progress? What if his phone was stolen, as mentioned in another article, one of the accusers stole from his office. What if his phone was stolen and while gone, this gentleman decided to forward pics he found to his phone to have dirt on Bishop Long, or to frame him. I have no clue, but i have been thinking about the situation both ways, and its hard to form an opinion of what I think is true until its all said and done. I will continue to pray for both parties and that justice will prevail. We know that no evil thing can tarry in the sight of the Lord, and if this is true, this is God’s way of spitting Long out of his mouth and bringing him to a public shame. If it is not true, there is a huge lesson of long suffering that God wants to teach not only Long and New Birth, but the Christian community as a whole.

Every time one of these false prophets screw up (no matter how shameful it is), people want to bring out the “he’s human just like the rest of us” excuse. But most of us humans know how to steer clear of trouble of this nature. Besides, God didn’t mean for his humans to act this way, especially his church leaders. It’s clearly defined in the Bible. I certainly hope the allegations aren’t true, but if so, then “Bishop” (and I use the term loosely) Long has no business trying to lead Christians anywhere.

Doggone/GA- God was not, is not, and will never be a MAN so since GOD is not a MAN it is not necessary for GOD to lay with a MAN or a WOMAN. Is Jesus the man you’re referring to? A very important distinction my friend.
Now in regards to Bishop Long, he is not the first nor will he be the last preacher/leader/pastor whomever, who has fallen short. This is why we are not instructed to put our faith in man. Man has fears, they have weaknesses, they can be selfish and they can be prideful both very dangerous qualities to have. This is why believers are taught to develop their own relationships with God, so that when things like this do happen, our walk with God is not hindered but made stronger. The word said the LORD is my sheperd, the LORD, not Bishop Long, Not Ted Haggard. And if your faith in God is shaken by this incident with this MAN (just like you and me) then you should be reevaluting your relationship with Him. John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Do not let an ordinary man replace Christ role. Stay prayerful, stay faithful.

Everyone with this ‘everyone is a sinner’ bit needs to STOP.
Pastors/preacher/ministers are SUPPOSED to be called by GOD. Being called to ministry is something that God, I’m sure, takes very sersiously. It’s not something that everyone has the spiritual/emotional/mental/physical strength to do….that’s probably why not eveyone is called by Him ot do it. For this fact alone, they should be held to a higher standard.
Yes, we all fall and come short of the glory, but, a Preacher should strive harder than ALL OTHERS to NOT. And, that should mean holding strict to the passage ‘being in the world, but not OF the world’.
To me, preachers use the ‘all men fall short’ as a cop out and excuse..

You’re failing to see that “all men fall short” is more than just an excuse, its a reality my friend. You will notice that I did not comment on his guilt or innocent, as it is not my place. As I previously stated put your trust in GOD not MAN and you will not be burned. It is not our responsibility to judge these MEN. We will ALL have to answer to our sins the final day, and GOD will hold them to a higher standard and GOD will be the one they have to answer to, not us.

But if you believe in the Trinity, Jesus IS God – so to say God is not a man, how do you KNOW? Isn’t HE “God the Father”
Sounds like a man to me.

the truth is known if you using bible standard of “2 or 3 witnesses”. Since all of sudden they are “grown men” the predator defenders are throwing out their testimony is not delusional. The issue is LONG’S self hate like the gay dopehead haggard. dopehead rush alcoholic beck ( we have beck’s beer in holland kind of ironic). some blacks are gay some iraqis are gay some muslims are gay, many republicans are gay, some democrats are gay, many talk show hosts are gay, dr phil is gay. Just put this in the open. But overall the issue of CHILD molestation by protestants, CATHOLICS needs to be addressed, every 2 weeks in the EU there is some pedophile porn ring that is broken up. Some humans are predators, all tv preachers are financial predators. By the way in 1st John the “Antichrist” deny Jesus was HUMAN not taht he was god jesus never said he was god ok. Jesus did not write any SCRIPTURES Mark the 1st gospel accepted in canon by Constantine was written after 70 AD by an author who was NOT a 1st hand witness. Paul never saw Jesus nor claim that a Spirit raped Mary. Human beings have 46 chromosomes Jesus was human he had 46 chromosmes, 23 came from his DAD Joseph.

_______
Never insulted your ignorance merely stated how slow your mind is to comprehend the fact that NO MAN IS ABOVE ANOTHER and in his position he does not need to lavish himself in material goods for mere adornment and self gratification. His salary should not be 28 times his flock. He needs a car, a place to live, food to eat, if he is in fact a man of GOD then why the need for such lavishness? Once again..he is a con nothing more. The last time I look the Nissan Altima has 4 wheels just like his $350k ride and they both use gas so tell me again about your good Bishopcon! The last time I looked a 250k house provided the same shelter as a 1.4 million mansion. So why does these con men think they need to live 28 times above the means of their congregation? That is the problem with most of his followers they are blind by materiality rather than substance. They are lusting flesh rather than spirtuality.
Now you want to tell me to get off this website because I don’t agree with you are call you out for your lack of comprehension now that is laughable. Remember sheep…this is free speech. Eddie LongWind will have to produce the evidence to keep his tail out of the pit!!

I dont recall mentioning the Trinity….
All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit [Matthew 28:19].
So there was the Father, and then we see mention of a son, then the Holy Ghost.
You were thinking of the Son.

This is a tragedy whether the charges against Bishop Long are true or not. Trust is lost. Faith is lost. Hope is lost. Love is lost. A great loss period. I hope this is a wake up call to ministers to stop preaching what you don’t practice. Just leave it alone. And to the followers, careful how you elevate ministers. They are just preachers with a great job. They are not God. Find your God within.

SIN is the issue. Bishop Long is a human being and is subject to the same God as all of us; he will answer to Him on these charges, and will be subject to the consequences of the law if he is found guilty. Believers, please stop confusing normal inquiry into the activities of our religious leaders as ‘judgment’– it’s fruit inspection. The Bible teaches that good trees cannot bear bad fruit, and the reverse. We should examine his activities, but most importantly, examine ourselves and make sure our own lives line up with what we believe.

Stephanie is absolutely right. God is alive in ALL of his children, and the church needs to learn this. I’m not saying that they should allow free reign for any act, but gay couples should be able to attend services without sweat, because the partner is not a cigarette. They can’t just take one and throw the other away. There are circumstances in this life that people are abused, born with hormonal imbalances and even transexuals (people born with both, or have become both already) and we as christians should accomidate these precious people also! I’m so tired of all the pick & choose that still molds around the doorposts of the church. Whatever happens in this case, i have a good feeling that it will cause the church to have a more open-arm outreach, and take their fears away. God will turn it around and make something beautiful come out of all this. Long Live Marilyn Manson.

Mr. Eddie Long, is the conversation of the city and by now the entire nation! I know many members and other are sad and hurt about the charges; youngmen have came forth and voice their rights and given us all what has taken place. We all are lookng at this as if it cannot happen; and perhaps it didn’t but we were not there and if it did, we were not there! I am reading about people sighting all of the bible striptures from different books of the bible and many coming to the defense of Mr. Long. All have every rights to do so and this look’s like a page taken from the deceased “Rev Jim Jones” and his followers. I am not making any judgments nor am I reading every thing that is said by people. The pictures of Mr. Long, his opportunity of 24 hours or less and not immediately coming out defending himself is what many of us would do; by him not doing so has cast a dark shallow upon him. While we are drawn to Mega Churches and the men who preach them; the homes, cars, jewels clothin and other meteral items often make us want them! When Mr. Jakes started wearing taylor-made suits, every preacher and everybody else jump on that train; A church divided in so many parts that has to name itself so many names has a problem within. Just because a minister is known all over the world don’t make him perfect or right. Deligation of leadership is warrant in a church this size and all Mr. Long has to do is read the reports that is submitted from different leaders that he put in charge of them rather than he being the police, judge, jury and prosecution. Parents who permitted their sons to be part of this also are to blame; do you know where your children are and what they are doing and who’s company they are keeping? This Megar-Church with 25,000 members…..don’t tell me that its perfect and nothng wrong is going on there! Some of the news statement Mr. Long made to the press in recent months gone by also made him look bigger because how he addressed different questions. People join church because of those who are leading them and where they located. The bottom line should be, are you following God or are you following names or man. Men and Women in leadership positions has to walk a very fine and thin line. One step out of it and they are doomed. No matter how any of us look at this situation…Mr. Long images, name, career is damaged. We need to try and easy everyone down because the media has camped out in front of New Birth Baptist Church…and as baptist we all know that the real story has not been told! If any party reach a settlement, the guilty will be known and if not, we all need to know just what has and did happen. When a man is called by God to lead and preach the word, the man preach instead of talking. When you see a preacher having all of the meteriallisted things and watching his flock suffer duirng this sad and very angry economy times and do nothing, do your heard really think that a preacher should live the ways they do while you as a member suffer and get no help from the very same church that you have paid your tides year after years? Remember this, Jim Jones was so good and people follow him everywhere he went, behind closed doors, things was going on with men and women, they also called him the (”Father Jones.”) Just like the men are calling Mr. Long “Daddy.” The real story about Jim Jones has not been told and people still suffering from what he did. This story about Mr. Long is not going away no matter what we feel or think about him or the men involved. The devil dwells in so many places and faces!

2 Samuel 11:
“In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king’s men and the whole Israelite army. But David remained in Jerusalem.
One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, 3 and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, “Isn’t this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite?” 4 Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her.”

I completely agree, but that standard will be accounted for in heaven. However, the word says in Micah 7:19 He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. So who is to say BL will be exempt from this?
Remember Proverbs 24
Do not lie in wait like an outlaw against a righteous man’s house,
do not raid his dwelling place;
16 for though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again,
but the wicked are brought down by calamity.
17 Do not gloat when your enemy falls;
when he stumbles, do not let your heart rejoice,
18 or the LORD will see and disapprove
and turn his wrath away from him.

I know this thread is dead, but this?
if justice is a Constitutional right, then defendants (civil or criminal) should have access to the same level of representation. think of it as a “salary cap” for attorneys or better yet, a minimum wage (pay them and the judges what the jurors get paid; $25 per day. rememebr the video they show you when you report for jury duty? it tells you how “important” your role is; yeah, well then why am I getting $25 per day, but the attorneys are getting $400/hour? OR, pay me $400/hour to sit on a jury).
Interesting! Definitely a deterrent.
I can’t imagine anyone wanting to commit a crime only to be prosecuted or defended by someone receiving standardized pay. If it’s $400 a day for jurors, more people would report for their civic duty, but motivated by what. Justice or money.
Like I said…interesting to say the least.

The key to faith is knowing where to put it. God is not a man that he should lie. People sin. ALL people sin. Yours may not look like mine but you do it. YES, you super saints too. That is why it is insane to worship people instead of worshipping GOD. I do not know if the story is true or not and I will not put judgement out there before anything has been proven or disproved. Bottom line is, if all it takes is a person’s scandal to shake your belief in God, then you never believed in the first place. When people put you on a pedastal, there will always be something or someone waiting to knock you off.
People go to church because they recognize just how messed up they are and want GOD to fix them. Preachers usually are the most messed up of the bunch, I mean, how can you testify if you’ve never been tested. The key is, they generally are supposed to have turned from a wicked past and are striving to be spiritually improved by God to a higher standard than the people they lead to God. Bishop Long cannot save one soul. God can. He uses whom he chooses to do so, but don’t get it twisted. People will fail you everytime. God never fails.
While it is not wrong to hold spiritual leaders to a higher standard, remember that they are just as human as anyone else…. not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. And when God elevates you, the attacks on your spirit and character become more intense. We all have pasts to live down, but in Christ, we strive daily for better futures. I cannot say that all of my actions are correct and biblical, but I can try daily to get it right and not make excuses.
And for all the perfect Christians, if you are so saintly, why do you need a God in the first place. If you’ve got it all together, stop going to church, you’re done. But in reality, we know that’s not ture… we all need God because we are all still messed up… so I won’t look at this situation with any type of opinion one way or the other until the full story comes out and I can be objective about it. Until then, understand… everybody sins… Christians are simply remorseful, repentant, and trying not to keep making the same mistakes by faith in God through Christ Jesus. Human nonetheless

Cariller…. I completely agree with you. (on to another idea) Pastors, their children, choir members, ushers are people. As leaders of the church, they are always put on the forefront for attacks. Satan knows that people are watching them, waiting to see if God will fail them. Some are watching for inspiration, they may be going through the same thing and just want to know that trouble doesnt last always, others have negative motives. They want to gossip and speak against the glory of God. I beg of you not to be one of the latter. I want to help you, what if this man is innocent and you have spoken so harshly of him?
Please review Matthew 12:36
But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.
and a favorite…
Isaiah 40:6
“All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever.” And this is the word that was preached to you. Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.

Parris was a member of Long’s youth fellowship, which “purports to train young men to love, live and lead as they proceed on their ‘masculine journey,’” the complaint reads. As in the other suits, Parris charges that Long used his role as a “spiritual mentor” to establish a unequal sexual relationship, which began with a “Covenant Ceremony” in which Parris was made into one of Long’s “Spiritual Sons.” It’s as if Long was building a cult around the pantomimed power and masculinity in which he had already trapped himself; he plotted to pull those he believed to be weak into that abyss with him.
Parris and his mom joined the church in 2001, and Long immediately stepped into a role as Parris’ missing father figure, the complaint says. He got the kid a job at the church, put him in the youth choir and, after a few years, started asking Parris to hang around for one-on-one time and call him “Daddy” (so much for “bishop”). The groping and oral sex started soon thereafter, the complaint says, accompanied by scripture lessons on why it was okay.”

What is this world coming to? I pray this is not true about Bishop Eddie Long but if so, people please DO NOT say everyone falls into temptation and compare this man sleeping with teenage boys as someone falling into temptation. If this is true, please understand this man we will a fake, liar and the biggest untrustworthy snake ever. If someone is gay we as people need to accept them for who they are, I used to ask myself why would someone want to be gay but as I got older I’ve realized just b/c I’m not doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing and I will accept anyone for who they are but however in this case people this man certainly have major issues, he is living a big lie and he likes young teenage boys, oh my lets really think about this. But I pray this is one big lie or if it’s true then if anyone attends this church and brainwash themselves in believing, oh he just got caught up in liking teenage boys and being a liar, I’m sorry to say and this may make some people mad but u have issues. You can’t just turn gay off, if you’re gay, you’re gay, accept who u are and live your life for who u really are.

Everyone is entitled to his/her opinions, while I do not share most, I respect them. We can sit here and judge or not judge, but at the end of the day, THERE IS A GOD. HE sees and knows everything, and has reserved a day for judgement. When that FINAL JUDGEMENT DAY comes EACH AND EVERY ONE of us will have to give an account for our actions- Bishop Long aside. So let us not get caught up in other peoples affairs, no, we are not oblivious to what is happening around us, but let us pay more atttention to our lives and how we live it

I have never bought into the money theology. What happens when you get the money and you still feel empty inside? Spirituality is about feelings and emotions. It is not about linear thinking, however, most churches of today attempt to be so specific to basically demonize people outside of their religion and control their congregations. I am African American and I have found most ministers to be manipulative at best. I have walked into very few churches and felt at home. I have listened to thousands of sermons and found the message so limiting that I actually laughed when I walked out of the church. I have watched churches claim to be agents of change while the situation continues to get worst in the Black community. And, I have found most churches to be hypocritcal as it relates to various social and culture issues happening today. It is no shock to here Bishop Long’s story. This is a common story that happen far too often in Black churches. Sadly, trustees and congregations have held these stories very secretly. For so long, the Black church has acted and behaved so horribly as it relates to LBGT community. They have disrepected and created major harm to young people as it relates to their growth and development. Bishop Long is not the first and will not be the last. I have encountered and slept with a few ministers in the last two decades. I have known of other ministers keeping a man on the side. This is not new. What I am worried about is the other young men in this school. It is clear this church and school has some major issues. I would hope the children’s parents would immediately pull their child from the school until this is resolved. I can imagine they are convening and pressuing the other young men to stay quiet.

I have read alot of the commints on this blog and disagree with things while agree with another. Many of you stated that Bishop Long help you get throught somethings or was you “favorite”. I will caution you to not give man so much credit. Bishop Long is simply a influentional speaker. If you are filled with the spirit of God, or you hear from God, simply by listing to what is suppose to be a man of God, then believe God has been there all along and that it only means you should work on relationship with God, who is always with, and stop putting so much confiedence in man. Bishop Long has done a lot of great things and he should be commended. He has brought alot of souls to Christ and that is wonderful, but let not forget, he is a servant and it is his job. His reward, if not ruined through sin, will be provided for in heaven. While we cant judge, because that is reserved for the Almighty, I just pray that these are alligation and that he has not used God’s name to gain fame and fillfil is sexual fantasies. God Bless everyone.

“As leaders of the church, they are always put on the forefront for attacks. Satan knows that people are watching them, waiting to see if God will fail them.”
Or they will fail God? God fails no one. Learn the lesson of Samsom. Samson ran around in a muscle shirt tempting the Phillistines and laying with the harlots. He thought because he was a nazarite God would always be with him. He didn’t know when the Lord departed him.
Video is a wonderful thing. Go back and look at how some of these preachers started, how their humility turned to pride right before our eyes.
Jeremiah said it well “A horrible and shocking thing has happened in the land: The prophets prophesy lies, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way.” (Jeremiah 5:30-31)

Deloris stated that blurp stated, ” I was driving home early Sunday morning through Bakersfield
Listening to gospel music on the colored radio station And the preacher said,…”
I am curious as to what color was that radio station? How was it colored?
Deloris, blurp reprinted the lyrics from the “Far Away Eyes”, the sixth song on the Rolling Stones 1978 album “Some Girls”. As per Wikipedia, this is the context to which the word “colored” was used:
In a 1978 interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Jagger said, “You know, when you drive through Bakersfield on a Sunday morning or Sunday evening – I did that about six months ago – all the country music radio stations start broadcasting black gospel services live from L.A. And that’s what the song refers to. But the song’s really about driving alone, listening to the radio.” On influences, Jagger stated “I wouldn’t say this song was influenced specifically by Gram (Parsons). Please re read the post caring christian… I said that people are watching looking for God to fail them. Never did I say that God would fail them. Then I went on to break that down into people who watch those leaders for guidance/inspiration and those who watch to negate the glory of God.
