Man, I gotta tell ya, the first week back in the harness after a great vacation is a real … pain in the posterior, so to speak. That’s especially true in the blogging world, where you’re expected to be your own one-man band.
In other words, I’m in the mood for some blues tonight. And once I started a-thinkin’ and a-cogitatin’ — you know, the blues, one-man band, and all that — I realized that there was only one place to go to kick off tonight’s episode of Travelin’ Music.
So here’s Benjamin Tehoval, doing it all to bring us the classic, oft-covered “44 Blues.”

Well, thanks SFD, for adding the extra address for Lutheran World Relief. Your agency sounded good too.
And thank you, JOSEF, for your comendation of LWR. I do think they are a well organized, effective group. Hope all agencies are getting a good response to such a desperate situation.
I feel a bit guilty (almost) talking about people in in need when I am STUFFED. Last night we had a double birthday celebration with food galore and it was leftovers tonight.. Just plain ol’ good stuff like ham & pineapple, roast (deli)chicken, green bean casserole, sweet potato’marshmello casserole, fancy macaroni salad, deviled eggs, cake & ice cream of course.
I saw cake mix on sale. In a great surge of economy, I decided to make two lovely 3-layer cakes. So I did. One chocolate, one vanilla with M&M decorations and candles.. I was so proud as I have no culinary skills worth mentioning. Then catastrophe!!
Just as we got ready to sit down, my vanillia cake got a little crack across the top. Then it got bigger & bigger. By the time we started eating it was a real cake quake with sides heading in all directions. Everybody said it would taste just as good!! Yeah!!! Anyway we had a good time, ate a lot, blew out candles (wherever they were), the chocolate cake was more popular, but we could not eat it all. I am now resolved never to make birthday cakes again..

According to the most recent IRS data on actual tax payments, total revenues collected over the period 2003-07 were about $350 billion higher than Joint Tax and the Congressional Budget Office predicted when the 2003 tax cuts were enacted. Moreover, the wealthiest taxpayers paid a larger share of all income taxes from the beginning to the end of this period. The IRS data show that in 2003 those with incomes above $200,000 paid $313 billion in income tax. By 2007 they paid $610 billion.
The facts, plain and simple, something the average dummycrat can’t even comprehend.

I heard a little talk on news shows about the Glen Beck Rally. Seems it went pretty well with one of the KIng family being quite an addtion. The crowd was “good” but there were no estimates by the Park Service since they goofed up the numbers one time before. Sarah Palin made a speech about being strong and brave. Beck, I think, was more inspirational. Sounds like things went along very well.
The other rally around the corner had a smaller crowd but more King family. Sounded a little more political.
I don’t think either rally will be remembered in history.

You’re singing my song, HD. I think the rate of “cheating” would go through the roof. Employers have a lot more incentive to honestly report employee wages. Plus, as conservative as I am, I think a graduated tax rate is the fairest. The Fair tax would shift too much of the burden to the poor.

josef–Per your 8:32, I’m sure you heard the story of how Carly revealed who the song was about to the highest bidder on ebay:
“In August 2003, Dick Ebersol, president of NBC Sports and a friend of Simon, was the highest bidder for a Martha’s Vineyard Possible Dreams charity auction offering in which the prize was the revelation of the person that “You’re So Vain” was about. After making the winning bid of $50,000, Ebersol was given a private performance of the song at Simon’s home and Simon whispered the subject into his ear. A condition of the prize was that Ebersol would not reveal the person to anyone. Ebersol said that Simon allowed him to divulge a clue about the person’s name: “Carly told me that I could offer up to the entire world, a clue as to what she’ll tell me when we have this night in about two weeks. And the clue is: The letter ‘E’ is in the person’s name.”

I also agree with you about it (Fair Tax) shifting the burden down the ladder. Seems to me, high ticket purchases could be moved off-shore. Why vacation on the Gulf Coast and pay a 25-30% sales tax, when you can afford to vacation overseas, someplace where a sales tax is much less or non-existent. That’s not to mention all the under-the-table ways to get around it. I think it’s just a way for Boortz and Linder to cut their taxes and make some bucks selling books.
Coincidently, that’s sort of how the 401k got started. It was never intended as a vehicle to take the place of defined benefit pensions. That was an unintended consequence.

A fire at the future site of a mosque in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is under investigation but “you can reasonably make the assumption” that it was arson, an FBI spokesman told CNN Sunday.
It looks like the Tennessee cousins of James Adkisson are at it again.
And it is no wonder that the right wing fringe is so demented and dangerous, Read what this sleazebag said:
Last month, Tennessee Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey publicly criticized the project. “You could even argue whether being a Muslim is actually a religion, or is it a nationality, way of life, a cult, whatever you want to call it,” Ramsey, then a candidate for Tennessee governor, said at a rally.

Republicans are seeking to wrest control of the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, and their platform consists of a change in the senior staff? Hello…? Anyone home?
Susan Estrich^^, typical mouth breathing dummycrat, our national jackasses-
Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) today released the following weekly column highlighting five steps President Obama should take to help break the economic uncertainty that is hurting small businesses and stifling job growth:
“Growing up working at my dad’s bar in Reading, mopping floors and waiting tables, I watched him and the folks in our neighborhood agonize over the direction of the economy. Later, running my own business in West Chester, I learned firsthand just how difficult these decisions can be not knowing what the next week, or even the next day will bring.
“Today, when I travel around our state, I talk to employers who are facing uncertainty like never before. They are afraid to invest and hire in an economy stalled by ‘stimulus’ spending and hamstrung by uncertainty. They are working hard just to keep the people they have.
“In Ohio and across America, the prospect of higher taxes, stricter rules, and more regulations has these employers sitting on their hands. And after the pummeling they’ve taken from Washington over the last 18 months, who can blame them?
“Earlier this week I proposed five actions President Obama should take immediately to break this economic uncertainty and help put Americans back to work.
“First, stop job-killing tax hikes on families and small businesses. Raising taxes on families and small businesses during a recession is a recipe for disaster – both for our economy and for the deficit. According to an analysis by the non-partisan Joint Tax Committee, Congress’s official tax scorekeeper, half of small business income in America would face higher taxes under the president’s plan.
“Second, veto job-killing ‘Lame Duck’ legislation. Democratic leaders refuse to rule out the possibility of forcing a ‘cap and trade’ national energy tax or ‘card check’ legislation through in a lame-duck session, after the election, after the voters have had their say. This only compounds the ongoing economic uncertainty.
“Third, call on Congressional Democrats to stop obstructing efforts to repeal ObamaCare’s harmful ‘1099 Mandate.’ The president’s government takeover of health care is already wreaking havoc on employers and entrepreneurs. One of the new law’s most controversial mandates requires small businesses to report any total purchases that run more than $600. It is expected to cost employers and entrepreneurs $17 billion over the next ten years. President Obama should call on Democratic leaders to work with me and my Republican colleagues to repeal this mandate without delay, and without strings attached.
“Fourth, cut spending to create jobs. Economists have warned that all this borrowing runs the risk of causing a damaging spike in interest rates, which would cripple job creation. House Republicans have put forward a proposal containing $1.3 trillion in immediate spending cuts, and we stand ready to work with the president to put a stop to Washington’s spending spree.
“And finally, ask for – and accept – the resignations of Secretary Geithner and Larry Summers, the head of the National Economic Council. Virtually no one in the White House has run a small business and created jobs in the private sector. That lack of real-world, hands-on experience shows in the policies coming out of this administration. It’s time for a fresh start.
“Republicans are listening to the American people and working to provide the fresh start our country so desperately needs.
“In May, we launched America Speaking Out, a ground-up initiative to gather ideas from Americans on ways to build a more responsive government and a better country. You too can get involved. All you have to do is log on to AmericaSpeakingOut.com, post an idea of your own, or comment and vote on someone else’s.
“While at AmericaSpeakingOut.com, you’ll find hundreds of ideas focused on putting Americans back to work – like Pat Tiberi’s (R-OH) plan to provide small businesses a tax deduction equal to 20 percent of their income to free up capital for job creation, and Rep. Geoff Davis’ (R-KY) idea to stop federal bureaucrats from imposing costly rules and regulations on employers without congressional approval.
“Combined with the five steps I’ve outlined, these types of common-sense ideas are exactly what is needed to break the uncertainty that is crippling America’s innovation and entrepreneurship.
Just sayin…

What he meant was “I can’t spend all of my time with my CERTIFICATION OF LIVE BIRTH plastered on my forehead” because he has never produced his actual BIRTH CERTIFICATE which is a separate document containing much more information (such as hospital and doctor of record) and from which the much abbreviated information on the CERTIFICATION OF LIVE BIRTH is taken.
Hmmmmmmmm…………. I dont have that on my birth certificate .
And i was born in Marietta Ga. in 1964

We’re not talking about Georgia we’re talking about Hawaii and individuals have come forward (one set of female twins) who were born the day after Obama and they both have the long form birth certificate showing the hospital of record and attending physician.
In addition, if you read “Dreams From My Father” you will find Obama mentions finding his long-form birth certificate in some papers when he was a teenager.
Bottom line: You have identified nothing in my 10:11 post that is inaccurate.
“And so he bowed.” But I won’t

Commie’s shtick is to get under people’s skin and get ‘em riled up. Whether or not he is a true “birther”—I dunno.
He dislikes the President enough to be one, though.

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration plans to set up an emergency loan program for the unemployed and a government refinancing effort in the next few weeks to help homeowners pay their mortgages after home sales dropped in July, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan said. -Urinal

RW- I don’t know why the White Sux think they need a dreadlocked Jim Thome, with the bullpen that they have.
Maybe he can pitch the 7th inning?

REDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A man was hit by a train and killed while looking for a legendary ghost train that is said to haunt the Bostian Bridge, near Buffalo Shoals Road in Iredell County.
A group of about 12 amateur ghost hunters were on the train trestle at about 2:45 a.m. Friday, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. They were there in hopes of seeing a ghost train that crashed on the Bostian Bridge on Aug. 27, 1891. Legend has it that the ghost train returns to haunt the tracks on the anniversary of the crash, which killed 30 people and injured many others.
Sounds like a group of drunken or drug influenced dimwittocrats to me, looking for the “Hope and Change” train, only to get run over this coming election.

Bud…so nice of you to make fun of someone getting killed…and to somehow blame it on dems. Looks like after a wonderful long weekend of hiking part of the AT in NC…I missed very little. Well I mean the dems are still being blamed for EVERYTHING…and according to some…Obama still has not “proven” to be a real US Citizen…and a god (your version) fearing christian…

Now we can get run over SOME MORE by the old “more of the same” train, because the conservitard hate baggers can’t learn from the past… Lookin forward to more wildly succesful programs like “abstinence only”…

Didn’t scout tell us that he used to work for the previous president, Bush. Bush the hugger and kisser and hand holder and bower. I suppose such behavior is acceptable as long as it is from his one true commander in chief. I’ll bet Bush even gave scout his own autographed copy of his birth certificate.
