ADL abandons its principles, surrenders its cause

The Anti-Defamation League calls itself “the nation’s premier civil rights/human relations agency,” proclaiming in its mission statement that “its ultimate purpose is to secure justice and fair treatment to all citizens alike and to put an end forever to unjust and unfair discrimination against and ridicule of any sect or body of citizens.”

A group deserving of such a description could never have put out a statement like this:

We regard freedom of religion as a cornerstone of the American democracy, and that freedom must include the right of all Americans – Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and other faiths – to build community centers and houses of worship.

We categorically reject appeals to bigotry on the basis of religion, and condemn those whose opposition to this proposed Islamic Center is a manifestation of such bigotry.

However, there are understandably strong passions and keen sensitivities surrounding the World Trade Center site. We are ever mindful of the tragedy which befell our nation there, the pain we all still feel – and especially the anguish of the families and friends of those who were killed on September 11, 2001.

The controversy which has emerged regarding the building of an Islamic Center at this location is counterproductive to the healing process. Therefore, under these unique circumstances, we believe the City of New York would be better served if an alternative location could be found.

In recommending that a different location be found for the Islamic Center, we are mindful that some legitimate questions have been raised about who is providing the funding to build it, and what connections, if any, its leaders might have with groups whose ideologies stand in contradiction to our shared values. These questions deserve a response, and we hope those backing the project will be transparent and forthcoming. But regardless of how they respond, the issue at stake is a broader one.

Proponents of the Islamic Center may have every right to build at this site, and may even have chosen the site to send a positive message about Islam. The bigotry some have expressed in attacking them is unfair, and wrong. But ultimately this is not a question of rights, but a question of what is right. In our judgment, building an Islamic Center in the shadow of the World Trade Center will cause some victims more pain – unnecessarily – and that is not right.

Such a statement contradicts everything the ADL has claimed to defend, as those who drafted it know all too well. In one sentence they explain and defend their principles; in the next, they abandon those principles. They condemn bigotry, then surrender to it. It’s a deeply disappointing display of moral cowardice, a surrender to the very forces in human nature that the ADL exists to combat.

“so, while I considered myself a believer, I really didn’t understand why and therefore didn’t really practice what I professed to believe in.”

I went through something similar. I am now at the point where I try (maybe not hard enough) to stay out of the “bible is the unerring word of God” discussions…because it doesn’t matter to me. One day, literally one day, I asked myself: “What if it wasn’t true?” What if the Bible is NOT the unerring word of God. What if Jesus WASN’T resurrected? Would it change my attitude towards his teachings? And I realized it wouldn’t make any difference, I would still believe in his message…so what’s the point of arguing about it?

Del,

Here is a dog and cat story for you. One year, my wife and I were planning a trip to Cancun, so we had to take our believed Tabby cat to a vet that room and board facilities. I placed Tabby’s carrier down on the floor in front of the check-in counter. Shortly after that, a police officer came in with his injured (or ill) German Shepherd. Wary of the dog’s proximity to our Tabby, I asked, “does your dog like cats?” Said the officer in response, “In the worst way.” I moved Tabby’s carrier to the other side of the room.

Eyes, I can’t answer that, the butterflies won’t let me…Oh, look…another one!

Now in the other news…

We did it. We beat FOX!

You stood up, they backed down.

Because of your pressure, the White House Correspondents Association denied FOX the coveted front row center seat in the White House press briefing room recently vacated by Helen Thomas.

Dear Friend,

On Wednesday we asked: Should the White House Correspondents Association let FOX News have the best seat in the White House press briefing room and the legitimacy that it confers?

Your answer was a resounding “Hell no!”

In just four days, over 311,000 CREDO Action members and 180,000 MoveOn members — over 491,000 people — petitioned the board of the White House Correspondents Association and asked them not to give the best seat in the White House press briefing room to the rightwing noise machine’s key propaganda outlet.

Just hours ago the board of the White House Correspondents Association met and decided not to give the seat to FOX.

There was clearly strong internal bias towards giving the seat to FOX. CNN reporter and WHCA board member Ed Henry publicly pledged to cast his vote for FOX before our campaign launched. And after we delivered the first 150,000 petition signatures, board member Julie Mason complained to an insider DC blog that “the reporters, producers and photographers from Fox News assigned to the White House are some of the best and well respected in the business” and furthermore accused us of “smearing” her “colleagues.”1

While we’re disappointed that the seat did not go to NPR, we’re delighted the board found a way to avoid giving the coveted front row center seat to FOX. No doubt our pressure made a huge difference.

We need the country’s most influential reporters to put journalistic principles before any kind of loyalty they feel to fellow members of the elite club which is the White House press corps.

Your participation in this campaign helped expose that choice. Every member of the WHCA board received updates every day on the growing numbers who were joining our campaign. When they cast their votes today, they were well aware of how it would be perceived by the public — and by the nearly half million people who spoke out during our campaign — if they chose to legitimate FOX.

That’s exactly why we work to bring your voices and your pressure to bear on the decision makers at key moments. And today that outside pressure helped change the terms of the debate, and forced the White House Correspondents Association to confront the real issue: FOX News is a right-wing propaganda outlet not a legitimate news agency.

We don’t win if we don’t fight. You fought back and we won. By signing the petition, sharing the campaign on Facebook and email, and organizing your friends and family to join the fight, you made a difference. Thank you for making this campaign a success.

We realize this is a symbolic victory over who occupies a chair, but symbols matter. Fox plays to win — so must we. This is just one among many battles to lessen the massive power of Fox. We will celebrate briefly and then ask you to join together to fight again.

Our Tabby was one very smart cat. I used to have a screen saver that featured a virtual aquarium. Tabby loved to stare for hours at the fish swimming by. One day, it occurred to him that the fish all swam from right to left and seemed go around the monitor and then come back again. So, of course, Tabby started looking behind my monitor to see what the fish were doing on the other side. It did not work out like Tabby expected, but I cannot fault his logic. ;-)

Certainly, because that is a survival instinct. Baby animals have to be GOOD at “pulling their parent’s string” so the parents will continue to feed them Most animals used, in one way or another, by mankind are “neotenized” – which means they retain a good deal of the looks and behaviors of young animals, so they are VERY good at manipulating their people!

“Dogs like me better than the cats do…go figure…”

That might be because dogs have a stronger inborn desire to attract the attention of people than cats do. Dogs are wired to need cooperation, because they are pack animals…so the work hard to get whatever “pack” is around to have good vibes. They sense your vibes are not good, so they try to change them.

Cats don’t care…and actually, wild wolves don’t care either. They have a VERY hard time accepting a new member to their packs, if that member was not born into the pack. That’s one of the strongest examples of the difference between dogs and wolves, even though, genetically, they are nearly indistinguishable.

Doggone/GA:

I’m not asking you to brag. I am simply asking you what is your mission field. There is nothing in scriptures to say that is wrong. There are no “undercover/Secret Agent Christians” .

theyeshavit :

I did not you please give this guy a listen;

Jesus to the relgious leaders of his day …………..

John 8:42 “Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me. 43Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? 47He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”

Matthew 23: ”

13″Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to.[c]

15″Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.

16″Woe to you, blind guides! You say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’ 17You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred? 18You also say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gift on it, he is bound by his oath.’ 19You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred? 20Therefore, he who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. 21And he who swears by the temple swears by it and by the one who dwells in it. 22And he who swears by heaven swears by God’s throne and by the one who sits on it.

23″Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. 24You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.

25″Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. 26Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.

27″Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and everything unclean. 28In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.

29″Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous. 30And you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our forefathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ 31So you testify against yourselves that you are the descendants of those who murdered the prophets. 32Fill up, then, the measure of the sin of your forefathers!

33″You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell? 34Therefore I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify; others you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town. 35And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. 36I tell you the truth, all this will come upon this generation.”

PRETTY HEAVY STUFF ………. HE PULLED NO PUNCHES …….. TODAY AS THEN HE WOULD BE LABELED NARROW MINDED, EXCLUSIVE AND MEAN SPIRITED.

Just look at Sen. John Kerry’s recent yacht brouhaha if you don’t believe me. He bought and housed his $7 million yacht in Rhode Island instead of Massachusetts, where he is the senior senator and champion of higher taxes on the rich, avoiding some $437,500 in state sales tax and an annual excise tax of about $70,000.

Howard Metzenbaum, the former Ohio senator and liberal supporter of the death tax, chose to change his official residence to Florida just before he died because Florida does not have an estate tax while Ohio does. Goodness knows what creative devices former House Ways and Means Chairman Charlie Rangel has used to avoid paying taxes.-WSJ

What is “good” for us is not good for them, just sayin…

Normal: Putting the same blanket of guilt on all Muslims for 911, is like putting a blanket of guilt on all White Christians for Timothy McVeigh’s bombing in Oklahoma City.

Why should we tax rich people?

In the words of Willie Sutton, when asked why he robbed banks, he famously said “That’s where the money is.” …

Doggone/GA:

That’s not what the scriptures say ……….. Christians are to “not forsake the assembling of themselves toghether” and are to offer mutual support, assistance, counseling, teaching, prayer and brotherly love. If you do that you will know what a fellow Christian is doing or not. It’s not being nosey, we are to be more effective that way. There is strength in numbers.

Romans 1
“That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.”

Hebrews 10:25
“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

KInd of hard to do that if you are a lone wold Secret Service Christian ……………

6 cities to train mail carriers to dispense anti-terror drugs

WASHINGTON — The Postal Service is ready to deliver lifesaving drugs to about a quarter of the residents of Minneapolis-St. Paul, the only metropolitan area in the nation where letter carriers have been trained to dispense medication after a large-scale terrorist attack involving biological weapons.

Six years after the government began exploring the idea of using postal workers as rapid-response medicine dispensers and eight months after President Obama ordered government agencies to develop a plan to do so, efforts are underway in six cities to train workers to deliver the drugs needed to counter anthrax or other potentially deadly agents, the White House says.

[snip]

The need to get drugs or other antidotes to people fast is a “unique situation,” Wittenburg says, “and the postal service is really the only organization with the capability to pull it off.”

Well……….I GUESS it’s a plan…

Scout:

I couldn’t help but laugh when I read your 9:16. We took a class at my church, to help each of us determine wherein our talents lay. Mine….and everyone knew it before me, was exhortation.

Sure ’nuff, with all my selections, it came up that my gift was exhortation. We had to read the results out loud. Everybody said “See…..we told you so!”

I looked at them and said…..”Fine! When I offer my counsel are you gonna resist my advice? When it comes to dealing with adults, I’m short on patience, ‘ya know.”

You, my friend, have the patience of Job.

So in a terrorist Biological attack, we are depending on the POST OFFICE? those lazy obese aholes who shuffle thru the day at government speed when you are trying to mail something ? It’s like they have a deliberate super slow motion government worker speed setting. Field carriers may or may not be as horribly lazy and slow as the office workers, but I would venture to guess the office workers come from the carrier ranks.
