Newt Gingrich has become, frankly, a hate-mongering bigot

Newt Gingrich went on Fox last night to peddle more of his hateful, vile garbage regarding the so-called “Ground Zero Mosque,” which is not at ground zero and is not a major mosque, but an Islamic community center.

“The idea of a 13-story building set up by a group many of whom, frankly, are very hostile to our civilization — and I’m talking now about the people who organized this, many of whom are apologists for sharia, which is a form of law that I think we cannot allow in this country, period,” Gingrich said.

Once again, my longstanding Gingrich Rule proves valid. Whenever the man utters the word “frankly,” what follows is almost always the opposite of frank speech. It is instead absolute baloney. In this case, he alleges that many of the people involved in the proposal to build the Islamic center “frankly, are very hostile to our civilization.”

That’s a serious charge, and neither Gingrich nor anyone else has provided any evidence whatsoever that it is true. With inflammatory remarks of this sort, Gingrich makes Joe McCarthy look measured and responsible.

Any grudging respect I once held for the man is now gone.

There is no such thing as grudging respect. You respect something or you do not. And I guess I missed it but where is the bigotry. To say many muslims want to harm us? To say that many Arabs want to harm us?

Tell you what. Lets build a Jewish synagogue in Iran, and see how that works. I remember during the flag debate, liberals were all over symbolism. Any evidence of life before the Civil War had to be erased, and one was the devil himself if he dared say he was proud of his heritage. This is all about symbolim, not about bigotry.

Jay – two words Thank You. Its way past time to quit catering to this and other nonsense Gringrich has spouted over the years. Even the Republicans in the House decided he had to go as Speaker. As to building a synagogue in Iran and seeing how that works, does anyone really want to point to Iran as a model for our behaviour?

1. McCarthy was always more measured and responsible than the left gave him credit. He was a zealot and was often out of line, but his accusations were based on credible FBI intelligence.

2. I call a 13 story community center 2 blocks from ground zero a major mosque at ground zero.

3. Newt should have backed up his accusations with facts as the accusations were being made.

Don’t like the Iran comparison? Lets build a Southern Heritage museum next door to the MLK center. Personaly I think this would be insensative and wrong because of the sybolism, but would this make me bigoted?

I guess the theme here is that anyone who opposes this mosque is a bigot. This would mean the majority of New Yorkers are bigots as well.

Seems to me it’s not much different compared to us “yankees” moving down south..most of all when the majority of us had no ancestors here in the USA during the Civil War… last I recall…this was ALL the USA…and even there near ground zero…there’s a little thing provided to us all called “Freedom of Religion”….

What’s the problem? Are the very one’s who keep shouting: “let’s take back our country” and “we need to get back to our Constitution” refusing to uphold that very same document?

McCarty was an alcoholic who hated liberals period, and did all he could to ruin them. The people he went after mostly were idealists believing in the dream of Communism, and not the fact of the USSR.
Communism was supposed to be a workers paradise, all equal, all sharing, all giving union of people. The young are naive sometimes and he took advantage of it for political purposes. The FBI used inuindo
and blackmail to get their “facts”. Nothing would have stood up in court today. Read your history, it was an era of hate and fear.

The unbecoming Newt is becoming difficult to differentiate from Rush. With his inability to answer any questions regarding proof that the center is to be funded by those “hostile to our civilization”, without any explanation as to why Mayor Bloomberg and New York Attorney General Cuomo support the building of the center, I surmise that this a Newt knee jerk reaction. Given an association test with the words ground zero and mosque, Newt responds with “terrorist”. So much for the Newter Gender.

You’re more tolerant than I am. I’ve never had any respect for him, and as I’ve said before…one of the most frightening things I’ve ever heard a politician say was when he said, on an interview on NPR that “More people should be like me”
