A terrified Gingrich urges America to abandon its principles

So Newt Gingrich thinks that we — the United States of America, champion of religious freedom — should reduce ourselves to the level of Saudi Arabia. The former speaker of the House believes that the American people must abandon the standards of freedom championed by Thomas Jefferson and our other Founding Fathers — “American elites,” he would sneeringly call them — to instead mirror the intolerance of Wahhabi extremists on the Arabian peninsula.

s-NEWT-large

“There should be no mosque near Ground Zero in New York so long as there are no churches or synagogues in Saudi Arabia,” Gingrich writes in a new blog post. “The time for double standards that allow Islamists to behave aggressively toward us while they demand our weakness and submission is over.”

So let’s toss the First Amendment overboard, huh Newt? To defeat Islamic extremists, we must become like Islamic extremists, because apparently their way leads to strength and ours to weakness. With arguments such as this, Gingrich betrays an utter lack of confidence in the founding principles of this nation:

“America is experiencing an Islamist cultural-political offensive designed to undermine and destroy our civilization. Sadly, too many of our elites are the willing apologists for those who would destroy them if they could.

“No mosque.

No self deception.

No surrender.

The time to take a stand is now – at this site on this issue.”

It really doesn’t bother me much when people such as Sarah Palin spout this nonsense. She doesn’t know much, she hasn’t been exposed to much, and in the absence of knowledge she falls back upon instinct. I think that instinct often leads her astray, but at least she’s being fundamentally honest about her beliefs.

Gingrich, on the other hand, has a Phd in history from Tulane. He is driven not by ignorance but by a vile and knowing cynicism.

Gingrich may rail against submission and surrender, but submission and surrender is precisely what he counsels. We cannot fight Islamist extremism by becoming like them. From the very beginning, Osama bin Laden has tried to frame this conflict as a war between the West and Islam, because that’s how he attracts volunteers willing to die for his lunatic cause. With statements endorsing this as a war with Islam, Gingrich enlists himself in bin Laden’s unholy cause.

And what drives this craven, cowardly abandonment of the concepts that have long made the United States so admired? Because, in the grasping mind of Gingrich, we are threatened by an “Islamist cultural-political offensive designed to undermine and destroy our civilization”? Seriously?

America’s military dominance is dwarfed only by its global dominance in the political and cultural spheres, yet Gingrich believes that to avoid defeat at Islamic hands we must abandon our fundamental principles and behave as they do?

No. We are a far stronger, and far better, nation than he believes us to be.

We cannot fight Islamist extremism by becoming like them.

And that is why I have written ion this very forum, that the neo-con chickenhawks, in their rush to be as similar to their Islamic cousins as they can and to meet them at the lowest common denominator, i.e., sanctioned torture, Gitmo, the fascistic suspension of habeus corpus, using their American corporate paymasters to illegally spy on Americans, etc, long ago lost their idiotically named War on Terror.

And what drives this craven, cowardly abandonment of the concepts that have long made the United States so admired?

Simply put, Newt the Nut and his fake conservative pals represent the very worst of modern day America, who put their demented ideology of hatred and incompetence above what is best for the United States of America and her people.

And virtually everybody outside of that willfully blind, derided base knows it…

Not to claim newt is right about this because it is unthinkabe for me to ever undermind or undercut anothers rights… I feel they do have the right for the mosque….

But maybe this was more in tune with the actual point newt was making…. it is how I interpreted this…. he used bad phrasing to get across his point….

“Those Islamists and their apologists who argue for “religious toleration” are arrogantly dishonest. They ignore the fact that more than 100 mosques already exist in New York City. Meanwhile, there are no churches or synagogues in all of Saudi Arabia. In fact no Christian or Jew can even enter Mecca.

And they lecture us about tolerance.

If the people behind the Cordoba House were serious about religious toleration, they would be imploring the Saudis, as fellow Muslims, to immediately open up Mecca to all and immediately announce their intention to allow non-Muslim houses of worship in the Kingdom. They should be asked by the news media if they would be willing to lead such a campaign. “

2) Any “religion”, group, club, organization, etc. whose goal is the domination of the world be force is to be FOUGHT.

3) I must run for the day but close as usual with these thoughts ……… ignore them at your peril :

“In the seventh century of the Christian era a wandering Arab, of the lineage of Hagar, the Egyptian, combing the powers of transcendent genius with the preternatural energy of a fanatic and the fraudulent spirit of an imposter, proclaimed himself as a messenger from heaven, and spread desolation and delusion over an extensive portion of the earth.”

“Adopting, from the sublime conception of the Mosaic law, the doctrine of one omnipotent God, he connected indissolubly with it the audacious falsehood, that he was himself his prophet and apostle. Adopting from the new revelation of Jesus, the faith and hope of immortal life, and of future retribution, he humbled it to the dust by adapting all the rewards and sanctions of his religion to the gratification of the sexual passion.”

“He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy; and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war as part of his religion against all the rest of mankind. The essence of his doctrine was violence and lust; to exalt the brutal over the spiritual part of human nature.”

“Between these two religions, thus contrasted in the characters, a war of more than twelve hundred years has already raged. That war is yet flagrant; nor can it cease but by the extincture of that imposture, which has been permitted by Providence to prolong the degeneracy of man. While the merciless and dissolute are encouraged to furnish motives to human action, there never can be peace on earth and good will toward men. The hand of Ishmael will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him.”

How can anyone use the nouns “Gingrich” and “principles” in the same sentence?

We’d like to set the record straight by singing of the newt
For newts are open-minded; they are flexible and cute
A newt can breathe in water and a newt can breathe on land
And if you are a different critter newts will understand
Newts are not mean-spirited; they never are unfair
Newts are not underhanded and are not afraid to share
Newts do not have bad haircuts because newts are lacking hair
But the newt called Gingrich drives all true newts to despair
Gingrich the Newt’s a disgrace to the name
When true newts see him they feel so ashamed
He’s the black sheep of the newt family
The one rotten fruit on the newt family tree
Newts don’t prey on other newts; in that they don’t believe
And you will never catch a newt with something up his sleeve
They’re tolerant to different environments and so
They don’t sen little newties to the orphanage to grow
What kind of newt wears a suit and a tie
And frightens small children as he rushes by?
But we admit that his suit suits him good
Much more discreet than a sheet and a hood
A newt may be cold-blooded but he won’t go to extremes
And you can trust a newt to be exactly what he seems
Newts are sorry if you’re sad; they’re happy if you’re gay
But Gingrich is perverse, and worse
He’s proud to be that way
Gingrich the Newt is puffed up like a toad
So full of himself that he’s bound to explode
And then we’ll raise up our tails in salute
A fitting tribute
To that horse’s patoot
Gingrich the Newt

As I said the other day, if the Imam Abdul Rauf were truly a “moderate” he’s look elsewhere as a gesture of “good faith”, but that aside, the First Amendment is like the Second Amendment to Gingerich; no (sacrosanct)?

What is it about you Christians that have this thing against Gays in Church? If Gay’s are really the sinners you make them out to be, don’t they belong in church? Church is for the sinner, not the saved…just sayin’

We have become extremely paranoid. The terrorists are winning.

Also, I thought “conservatives” were against fashioning our ideas from those of other countries. So, then, why should it matter if there are churches in Saudi Arabia or not? We go OUR way, and let them go theirs. No need to emulate them, right?

The Republican Party — the party of Newt — thrives on fear mongering and hate mongering and basically any emotion, less love or anything comparable, that they can stir within the depths of the ignorant. No matter where you turn within their party, they preach the same message — “We Holy / You Evil.” Ooh, lookie! I made a new Newt Bumper Sticker or just plain Newt’s BS.

Normal – 10:00 – and THAT was my point with my 9:50.

(and why limit it to now? look at what the Christian missionaries did to the Australian aborigines, what the Spanish missionaries did to the South American tribes, etc …)

please excuse the typo – Saudi Arabia is our ally, not our alley, although there is probably a joke in there somewhere.

A Muslim can call for Death to America , or the Black Panther party can call for Death to Crackers. What is the difference between that and what the Nazis and skinheads espouse?

Jay, why limit it to just Keith? Seems to me he’s not the only one here with that opinion.

If you can’t understand that the Muslims wanting to build a mosque right at ground zero is a statement of victory by Islam over the US then you are either willfully blind in the name of political correctness or just plain stupid. Which is it?

Truly amazing. These religionist zealots in America assert that theirs is a religion of love and others are religions of hatred. Is this not something right out of the mouth of Torquemada?

I ask you, is this warped worldview not virtually identical to the Islamic nut jobs and their Abrahamic religion that they claim is best served by a total intolerance and hatred for everybody not exactly like themselves?

Everyday that I partake of the oxygen habit, I feel so amazingly happy to have, of my own free volition, chosen NOT be one of these bigoted Malices in Wonderland (hat tip, JB!) who hide behind their Jesus.

And everyday there is yet more proof why I would never be one.
