The Atlantic’s Marc Ambinder (frank language warning!) looks into the info nugget that General McChrystal voted for Obama. Citing several McChyrstal staff members, he reports that the general “was a hard core operator, aggressive as hell, a JSOC ninja — but he was also a social liberal who tolerated, nay, welcomed gay people into his inner circle, who disdained Fox News, and who grew increasingly frustrated with his reputation as Dick Cheney’s hired assassin.”
Ambinder says he’s not surprised. Within the special forces community, he says, people don’t seem to care much about sexual orientation:
“As one former member of a special missions unit put it to me recently, “It’s really about competence. If you’re competent, it doesn’t matter who you are.” And then, switching instantly from an analytical posture to a machismo mode, he said, “If a guy saves my ass, he sure as hell can look at it.”
That’s the bottom line.
So to speak.

That the American military thinks the Obama team is not up to the job of defeating Al Qaeda and winning a war which it is even terrified of calling by name. That those on the front line in a life-and-death struggle with a serious enemy think the President a wimp, the Vice President a blowhard, the national security adviser a “clown,” Ambassador Richard Holbrooke a man consumed by the need for relevance, and that the French act like…well…the French.

Well, I got nothing against gays. Except when they try and get in the military. I mean, suppose you’re in the barracks and you drop off to sleep. Some gay comes along. Next thing you know, you wake up gay! We can’t have that.
No offense to josef or anybody like that. As long as they don’t try to get in the military or get married, I got nothing against them. Provided they keep to theirself. I mean, you wouldn’t want somebody like that to show up at church or your trailer.

It’s not the McCrystals or others like him I’m concerned about. It’s those old-line enlisted people and some older officers who’ve devoted a military career to instilling anti-gay sentiment in recruits and new people. Any Marine veteran can tell you about the stern lectures about the consequences of gay behavior and the anti-gay jokes and quips. I doubt that younger people care much, one way or the other. It’s those older veterans people need to talk to and watch out for about DADT. eliminating DADT

What a revolting thought. Anybody, much less a career military man being DickHead’s b!tch.
Too bad there was always so much Secret Service around that slimy POS.
Given the chance, I would presume McChrystal and a bunch of other guys would have loved to have backhanded that smirk off of that little coward’s face. Then waterboarded that “I had priorities other than military service” screw up.
The only assassinations those useless neo-cons were good at were the verbal, Swift Boating kind.
The service-averse con chickenhawks were and are wrong about virtually everything military. Including DADT. Why would anybody possibly believe they have a clue now?

If Obama’s goal is to confuse the hell out of everybody, he’s doing a heckuva job.
Leading Republican politicians and the former American secretary of state Henry Kissinger have called on the president to drop a July 2011 deadline to begin withdrawing US troops, saying that it undermines the effort to defeat the Taliban.
Voices on the Democratic party’s left want withdrawal to begin immediately, saying the war cannot be won.
But today, Obama said he intended to stick with the strategy and timetable agreed last year, while indicating that US troops could remain in Afghanistan in significant numbers well after the withdrawal is due to start next summer.
“We did not say, starting in July 2011, suddenly there will be no troops from the United States or allied countries in Afghanistan,” Obama said at a press conference with the Russian president, Dmitry Medvedev, who sidestepped a question about whether, in light of the Soviet Union’s defeat in Afghanistan, a foreign army can expect to win a war in Afghanistan.

Two more: Insurance money. God has been eyeing the new Cadillac CTS Coupe. In this economy? You do what need to do.

Blast at Greek police ministry kills top aide
“It was a wrapped package that exploded in the aide’s hands after he apparently picked it up and tried to open it,” police spokesman Thanassis Kokkalakis told Reuters. “We heard a big bang, there was a lot of smoke and damage.”
There was no warning and no reports of other injuries.
Since suffering its worst riots in decades in 2008, Greece has been rocked by a series of bomb attacks for which leftist militants have claimed responsibility. Earlier this year, police arrested six suspected members of the country’s most violent militant group, Revolutionary Struggle.
The victim of Thursday’s blast, George Vassilakis, was adjutant to the minister and the father to two children.
“I lost a valuable and dear colleague,” an emotional Chrysohoidis told reporters outside the ministry. He was in the building at the time of the explosion at 8.15 p.m. (1715 GMT), but escaped injury.
In early May, three people including a pregnant woman were killed when people marching in an anti-austerity protest fire-bombed an Athens bank. In March, a 15-year old boy was killed and his mother and sister injured after a bomb exploded outside a building in the capital.

And another WHOOAAAA!!!
Both Washington and Jerusalem withheld public exposure of this US-Israeli aerial exercise, dubbed Juniper Stallion 2010. President Barack Obama ordered all US missile interceptors in the Middle East to go on war alert in the second week of June, including batteries aboard US Sixth Fleet vessels on the Mediterranean and the US Fifth Fleet in the Persian Gulf.
It was decided at the White House to stage the Juniper Stallion exercise only eight months after Juniper Cobra 10, the biggest joint war maneuver the US and Israel had ever conducted against missile attack, after receiving new intelligence that Iran, Syria and Hizballah had almost doubled their operational armory of medium-range missiles.
Switching over to a tough line, US defense secretary Robert Gates warned a Senate panel on June 18 that Iran could fire “scores or hundreds” of short- and medium-range missiles against Europe – in salvoes rather than one or two at a time.
Four days later, Gates told a Fox interviewer: “I don’t think we’re prepared to even talk about containing a nuclear Iran. I think… our view still is we do not accept the idea of Iran having nuclear weapons.” Asked whether a military strike was preferable, he said all options remain on the table although some time is left for working on problem.”

The General probably had to be dismissed, if for no other reason than as example to his subordinates. He probably wouldn’t tolerate his behavior and poor judgement in one of his ncos or junior officers. Having said that, if he really is as described he has a bright future in politics where he would have more freedom to express himself and perhaps do some good, especially if he is socially liberal. His opinion of Cheney is probably shared by other military personnel. Mr. “4 deferrments” wouldn’t serve, but hasn’t met a war he doesn’t like, that is, as long as it’s someone else doing the fighting.

Unless I missed something terrible, when did our unemployment shoot to 50%? Talk about getting your talking points crossed. If we had 50% unemployment, there would probably be mass riots and looting going on. I enjoy a good debate between liberal and conservative thinking people, but when one side is represented by something like this, it’s the old proverbial one-legged man in an a$$-kicking contest.

I mentioned this in BB’s blog earlier today. consider this: it was recently reported that Afghanistan and Central Asia holds one of the world’s largest caches of lithium and other precious metals. we have a president who is urging us to become independent of foreign oil and committed to alternative energy sources and green stuff. anyone who has a laptop, Blackberry, cell phone or hybrid car knows these things use LITHIUM batteries. so, this POTUS runs on a “out of Iraq” platform and ramps up (surge and Predator strikes) the war in Central Asia. is it me? Lithium is the new pertroleum, folks. and Obama is the new Bush. I’ll stop there, Biden is not the new Cheney… he’s the same old Biden.

“You can’t have it both ways, Bookman.”
What is he doing to have it both ways? McChrystal committed a breech of command. He was cashiered for that. He also has been a proponent of gays serving openly in the military and has welcomed them into his inner circle. The one does not exclude the other. Jay could have ignored this aspect of who the man is. He chose not to and I applaud him for that.

“OFF TOPIC #1″
From a blogger on a site I was reading:
“The Portland Oregonian is a far-left radical liberal newspaper that’s in the tank with the Democrat Party, and that’s why they killed the story (sexual accusation against Al Gore). Had this been G.W. Bush or any Republican, this same newspaper would have gone balistics with a daily “report”. It’s the same with Obama. There’s no way on the planet that this newspaper, or any Main Stream Media news organization in America, would criticize Obama for anything.”

I don’t think you should be offended, I think as long as the field commanders feel it won’t be an issue, gays and lesbians should be allowed to serve equally, I’m also pro gay marriage as WTF business does government have licensing and taxing any union..but everything i say about Hugo Lula Jong Ill hussein obama and his plagiaristic sidekick, Bite me, (I got an F in 8th grade for not properly citing, he got elected..more proof americans are dumb) is TRUE.

Actually the newspaper was the Portland Tribune…Not the Oregonian, and they actually provide
a reason for their decision. Perhaps you should read it!

Some consumer wins in the new finance reform legislation:
1)Mortgage brokers and bank employees will no longer be able to earn bonuses based on the type of loan they put you in. That will presumably eliminate any incentive to push high-interest loans on borrowers (who might otherwise qualify for a better deal) to inflate bank profits.

1) if he doesn’t, all we’re going to hear for the next week is the Fool’s Chorus of “but, but, but, Jaaaaayyyyyyy … why don’t you talk about that rapist, Al Gore” (we’ve already been hearing the overture yesterday and this morning)
and
2) I would hope he would frame it with a discussion about journalism / running a story when there is no evidence to support it / convictions in the courtroom of public opinion based on rumor

French implosion regarding their world cup team: No wonder President Nicolas Sarkozy has called crisis ministerial meetings on the French World Cup debacle. The daily Le Monde went further, drawing parallels between this “strange defeat” and another, on the front lines of 1940.

Jay sure seems obsessed with this gays in the military thingy. Something you been wanting to tell us, bookboy?
The “Mad Max” character on the John Boy and Billy radio show had a good skit about this. Among the zingers:
“Gays in the military. Yeah, great idea. Let’s put the defense of America in the hands of the guys who got beat up all through high school.”
“What’s up with all these gay boys wanting in the military anyway. Some redneck calls them a name and they go running to the cops wanting to charge them with a hate crime. Now, they all ready to go rumble with [taliban].”
Good stuff. See if you can find it on you tube.

Get to try new recipes out. Before that, though, we are going to finish the bedroom my Mama will use if she has to come here to stay for awhile. Have a great day, and I’ll try to check in for the music.

Torture is bad….we can’t stack up naked terrorists like folding chairs…not allowed to pee on Koran’s (Qouran whatever)..
Personally, I’m tired of hearing about Dick Cheney….there were some clowns blaming the oil spill on him the other day. The oil spill is the fault of the crew working on the rig and the management team that was in charge of overseeing them. Just like Obama couldn’t don a wet suit and plug the leaking pipe, Cheney wasn’t on the rig and didn’t cause the accident.
The real question is, can we stomach a confrontation with Iran and North Korea, possibly simultaneously? What are we doing in Afghanistan and why can’t everyone see that this is an un-winable battle that will not yield the pseudo-democracy that our leaders are hoping for? No one will be able to talk Iran down from the nuclear cliff so we best get prepared for the inevitable.
Bring the kids home…this is ridiculous.

From my experience, if an operator came out gay, he’d be out. I have personally seen that scenario play out. The guy wasn’t even allowed in the locker room or shower. The “competent” line is a bunch of BS. Might be so for an interpeter, not for an operator. We’re talking about the Atlantic Monthly here, right? Not exactly a quality source for inside military issues.
