Nikki Haley for governor of South Carolina!
State Sen. Jake Knotts, (R-S.C.)
Nikki Haley, the embattled GOP candidate for governor in South Carolina, is by reputation a very conservative politician. But after all the trash thrown her way, I have to say that at this point I’m rooting for the woman, regardless of any marital infidelity.
Just yesterday, a genius state senator named Jake Knotts, from Haley’s own party, went on a talk show to say he opposes Haley because “We already got one raghead in the White House. We don’t need another in the governor’s mansion.” (Haley is of Sikh heritage).
You know, they just don’t grow Southern gentlemen like they used to.
Today, Knotts was forced to issue an apology to Haley, which states:
“Unfortunately, the show was not recorded as was intended. If it had been recorded, the public would be able to hear firsthand that my “raghead” comments about Obama and Haley were intended in jest. Bear in mind that this is a freewheeling, anything-goes Internet radio show that is broadcast from a pub. It’s like local political version of Saturday Night Live, which is actually where the joke came from.
Since my intended humorous context was lost in translation, I apologize.
I still believe Ms. Haley is pretending to be someone she is not, much as Obama did, but I apologize to both for an unintended slur.”
He was barely doing OK until that last sentence. What is it with these people?

When asteroids killed the dinosaurs, SC state senator Jake Knotts somehow survived. What a moron. The best revenge would be for all SC residents with any sense of decency to vote for Haley in the primary. If you are a Democrat, vote for Haley now and vote Democratic in November. Send a message.

He should be very ashamed. No one knows better than he that the only people you are allowed to offend are white, rural or southern males. If you are black, latino, arab, female, indian, asian or just a little strange, you are protected.

A gentleman wouldn’t even think it, much less let such vulgar language pass his lips even in jest. I doubt very much the broadcast area was empty. This was an insult he fully meant to be heard.

Two things–we already established here that Haley is a Methodist–a Methodist of Sikh heritage…hmmm. I’ve always admited the Methodists for their inclusiveness…but, well, just wondering.
