At the end of a crazy week, a little travelin’ music to see y’all back home

Here’s a very nice version of a very nice song to kick off the latest chapter of Friday Night Travelin’ Music. (And while Willie wrote it, Miss Patsy owns it and always will. I don’t know if Willie wrote it specifically for her, but it was a perfect fit to that voice).

We haven’t done a night of dedications here before, probably because it might inject a taint of politics into the affair. But you sho’ could dedicate this one to any number of folks in the news in recent days. Enjoy the evening, and the weekend.

(Reuters) – The number of mass layoffs by U.S. employers rose in April led by manufacturers who shed workers even as the economy began to recover.

The Labor Department said the number of mass layoff events — defined as job cuts involving at least 50 people from a single employer — increased by 228 to 1,856 as employers shed 200,870 jobs on a seasonally adjusted basis.

The dummycrats aren’t shipping jobs overseas, they’re sending them to the ash heap of history, just sayin…

AmVet: Debbie, those icks in Port Arthur just now even allowed a marker of her. (Oops, is that political?)

Well everything is slow in Texas…….it’s sad that they didn’t recognize the treasure they had in her until it was monetarily beneficial for them to do so. Janis, even though she was a rocker, could sing the blues just as good as any black chick from Mississippi. I love the way she redid Big Mama’s Thornton’s “Ball & Chain” (although I’m crazy for Big Mama’s version), she song the song so well, that people believe that Janis was the one who originated it!! Between her, Billie Holiday and Big Mama, i LOVE the blues!!

Oh yea, and my grand dad used to play in a blues band and every year (except this year cause he’s been really sick) we go to the Memphis Blues Festival, The St. Louis Blues Festival and the BAr B Que and the blues festival they have in this little small town in Florida & Georgia. The small ones are always the BEST. Lots of local talent (on and off the grills), and lots of fun.

Been kinda busy lately – I’ve started going to this Brazilian church in Cobb County to try and spruce up my Portuguese, which really suxs! My sister and my aunt are coming to visit this summer and I want to be able to translate for them, (although my sister speaks pretty good english, or rather her english is better than my Portuguese – but I am getting better and I’m picking a lot of regional slang and regional nuances). I’m hoping my sister stays here and doesn’t go back to Brazil – Brazil is SCARY. Or rather where she lives is scary. And before anyone asks, YES she is an American citizen. My father adopted her when he married my mother and she has dual citizenship.

She’s single and 40!! She never married – she was the one living in Brazil taking care of my gran and my tia all these years. Now that gran has died, (Jan ‘10); she’s free to mingle again. She’s still hot and very pretty, but she’s short, (like 5 feet flat). I like the fact that she’s my older sister, but I’m a whole foot taller than her! It really revs up my “baby sister” ego!

I’ve dreamed of visiting Rio for many years, but keep hearing mixed reports about safety, etc. Quiero visitar la playa.

Rio is a tourist town – very safe. Or let’s say as safe as New York City…take your pick. Where my family comes from is not safe at all. Lots of barrios (ghettos) and poverty is rampant. LOTS of prostitution and where there’s prostitution there’s crime, drugs, and guns.

South America is not like N. America. — not saying that there’s no prejudices or anything like that, it’s just not as “protestant” and “hypocritical” as the US is. Latin Americans take life as it comes, and they enjoy it while they can. She won’t see you, or anyone, as “white” or “black” she’ll see you as “friend” or “foe”. She can’t even fathom someone not liking her because of what color her skin is, or vice versa.

Bruno: I have to put this guy near the top of that list as well (Bobby Caldwell). Back at ya, DDR:

Caldwell is a jazz singer and a dog gone good one too, my mother has all his stuff!

josef: You don’t have to convince me about Simon & Garfunkel, I fell in love with them when I discovered that Simon used to be married to Princess Leia — that’s when I discovered his music, and then S&G’s music.

Eyes: I’m REAL scared about what’s going to happen to this country’s youth. Texas has now officially proclaimed it’s going to “dumb down” a whole generation. Start saving your money in jars under your front porch, I can just picture the dumb azzes that will be running the banks, etc, in the future.

Also thanks for more Linda!! Where have all the great singers gone? Is everything now just synthesizers and computer generated music? In a few more years, people are gonna think YANNI is real music!!
