Here’s a very nice version of a very nice song to kick off the latest chapter of Friday Night Travelin’ Music. (And while Willie wrote it, Miss Patsy owns it and always will. I don’t know if Willie wrote it specifically for her, but it was a perfect fit to that voice).
We haven’t done a night of dedications here before, probably because it might inject a taint of politics into the affair. But you sho’ could dedicate this one to any number of folks in the news in recent days. Enjoy the evening, and the weekend.

HAVANA (AP) – Cuban lawmakers have passed a resolution denouncing Arizona’s new immigration law as “racist and xenophobic,” recalling an old dispute in the process: the argument that the United States’ purchase of Arizona from Mexico in the 19th century was tantamount to theft.

Man, I hate it when politicians go looking for a scapegoat.
But Blair was most out of step with the White House when he told Congress that an inter-agency high value interrogation group that hadn’t been stood up yet should have been called in to interrogate Farouk Abdulmutallab, the Nigerian suspect in the attempted Christmas Day blowing up of a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit. The administration said Abdulmutallab should be treated like a criminal and Blair later revealed that Abdulmutallab was giving information to the FBI.
In other Congressional testimony this year, Blair revealed the controversial information that an American-born Yemeni cleric, Anwar al-Awlaki, linked to Abdulmutallab and the suspect in the November Ft. Hood shootings has been placed on the list of terrorism suspects targeted for assassination by the CIA.
Some intelligence community veterans argue the DNI position was itself a poorly thought-out and ill-defined post-Sept. 11 reform that Congress never gave the authority to be effective, and that the person who took the job was set up to fail.
The DNI position “never had the full authority to move personnel around” or budgetary authority over the 16 intelligence agencies the DNI nominally oversees, former senior intelligence official Paul Pillar told POLITICO.
They were short-changed on technology.
Enjoy the music, guys.

Homer said it best, “Beer, the cause of and solution to all of our problems.”
Or was it this one, “Alright brain, you don’t like me, and I don’t like you. But lets just do this, and I can get back to killing you with beer.”
Then again, “Son, when you participate in sporting events, it’s not whether you win or lose; it’s how drunk you get.”
So much wisdom from one person…

Short covering at the bell on wall street. It seems that we’ve entered a sweet spot for day trading, because even I can read the moves that seem to be telegraphed in plenty of time to buy and then sell. Today I got lucky with WIN. Yesterday, INTC. I know I’m doomed to lose big real soon, but so far this year I’m only down two percent. Oh, baby, I’m rolling in dough!!!! That’s the new millionaire. Hey, How’d I get so rich!!!
BTW: My nephew told me today something about a legal bag of a substance called “Serenity” that’s supposed to feel like pot feels when it’s smoked and is available at smoke shops and head shops. Anybody have any experience with “Serenity”?

Okay, that commercial for ALLY, where an obnoxious jerk give a real pony to the one girl and a toy pony to the other, or the same jerk holding a doll which asks the little girl, For broccoli, say ONE, for toys say TWO. Now the little girl says, “TOYS”. The instructions clearly told her to say TWO for toys. So the little girl was, sorry, a dope. She didn’t deserve any toys if she’s that stupid. Yet the voice over says, “Even little girls know it’s wrong to give someone the runaround.”
Well, that’s not what happened in the commercial. Nobody gave anyone the runaround. All the girl had to do was to say TWO. The entire import of what happened is completely lost. The whole premise of the commercial is wrong, wrong, wrong. The obnoxious jerk is the good guy. The mini-me doll he’s holding is the good guy too. The little girl is the greedy little beedy-eyed truant loser who don’t get no toys and I’m glad.
So whatever ALLY is selling, I ain’t buying.

Years ago when my son was in the Boy Scouts, we had some big gathering and the MC asked everyone who had served in uniform to stand, A goodly number of us did. Then he asked everybody who had a father, mother, brother or sister who had, to stand. More did of course, The extended families and so on. At the end virtually everyone was standing.
The point? We’re all in this crazy sh_t together.
For all the brothers in arms here – marines, soldiers, airmen and sailors. Conservative, liberal and neither. Black, white and every color. And their extended families.

Love “you’re gonna lose that girl”.
Okay, how about the over-mugging CNBC stock pundits: They actually put “excitement” in their delivery when the dow goes up, and “worry” in their voice when it goes down. They mug mercilessly like bio-emoticons to reflect the trading action. Like take today: There was a short covering of a little over one percent in the last hour of trading, and now they’re all having a bull rally party, and everyone has stock picks and these people are crazy.
So Jay’s musical pick is perfect.
