Global temperatures continue to climb, as predicted

Back in the late ’70s, scientists began predicting that global temperatures would rise as a result of increased concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Sadly, they continue to be proved right.

Globally, March of 2010 was the hottest March in 131 years of record-keeping.

April was the hottest April on record.

The last four months — January through April — were the hottest January-April period on record.

And the last 12 months constitute the hottest 12-month period on record.

Maybe. I’m just tired of spending spending spending. That’s all. I just don’t want this to turn into some spending spree on research or some bs. If it is true, stop the “research” and let’s do something about it. Let’s get our nuts out of the middle east’s purse and stop our dependency on oil. Let’s go to something cleaner.

I do know one place where warming’s a fact. Not in dispute. Washington, DC. Especially today. More than one incumbent’s finally accepted reality and are now feeling the heat. Will a cooling trend follow? Doubtful -

Meanwhile, back in the early 70’s the same alarmists were screaming “Ice Age!” (or something close to it).

According to the NOAA the global temperature for April was a whopping 1.3 degrees above the 20th century average. And just how were those “global temperatures” in the late 19th and early 20th century measured? Nothing like today’s of course.

Of course, there is evidence that we were just as “warm” 1000 years ago–”but, but, the oceans are going to rise, and the polar bears are going to drown, and the jellyfish are going to explode, and the tigers will eat people…” (list of things “caused” by global warming: http://www.numberwatch.co.uk/warmlist.htm)

Jay…its easy to say “hottest” and play the sensationalist. What you fail to detail is the actual temperature increase. We’re talking about a trend that looks like .10 to .20 degrees per decade since the 1970s, correct?

So while there is a slight warming trend, I still contend the following…

1) We don’t have enough historical record and empirical data to panic over a few 10ths of a degree.
2) Certain special interest groups are seizing on an opportunity to turn global weather patterns into political footballs to push their agendas.

And I feel this way, despite being a pretty staunch conservationist.

And don’t forget, we are nearly five years removed from when Al Gore said, “we have just ten years to avert a major catastrophe that could send our entire planet into a tail-spin of epic destruction involving extreme weather, floods, droughts, epidemics and killer heat waves beyond anything we have ever experienced.” And from when Jim Hansen said, “As explained above, we have at most ten years—not ten years to decide upon action, but ten years to alter fundamentally the trajectory of global greenhouse emissions.”

“Ten years to alter fundamentally…” Didn’t happen (the “altering” that is), doesn’t look like it’s going to. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
