Yup, microchips are the answer to illegal immigration

In comments in the post below, a tongue-in-cheek “modest proposal” was offered to use microchips as a means to distinguish citizens and legal immigrants from those here illegally.

Illegal, after all, is illegal and real Americans shouldn’t be upset if they’re required to accept microchips as a way to keep our borders secure and our precious bodily fluids untainted. Besides, once implanted microchips are the law, only outlaws won’t be microchipped. What better way to tell “us” from “them?”

I even suggested that Nathan Deal, the GOP candidate for governor who backs an Arizona-style law for Georgia, might want to jump on board the microchip train. Sure, it might be unconstitutional, but if the federal government can’t protect our borders, such things have to be done, you know? With microchips, we’d just be enforcing something that’s already the law, and who could argue with that?

The only problem is, satire in modern America has become impossible.

From Iowa’s Gazette:

Speaking at a Tama County Republican forum Monday, six candidates for the GOP nomination to face seven–term Democratic Rep. Leonard Boswell opposed amnesty for illegal aliens and called for tougher enforcement of border security.

“I think we should catch ’em, we should document ’em, make sure we know where they are and where they are going,” said Pat Bertroche, an Urbandale physician. “I actually support micro-chipping them. I can micro-chip my dog so I can find it. Why can’t I micro-chip an illegal?

“That’s not a popular thing to say, but it’s a lot cheaper than building a fence they can tunnel under,” Bertroche said.”

And is it just my imagination, or are physician/politicians more likely than most to be … out there, shall we say?

I don’t think we are going far enough here. Let’s just get rid of humans and have a kind of microchip species run things on the planet. We can finally be just one happy, collective consciousness. And…let’s see…let’s call ourselves The Borg.

Or perhaps having all mexicans, within the US, that have yet to obtain full citizenship be forced to adorn their scalps with a taco bell togo bag doo-rag. Any illegal mexican caught without proper scalp adornment would immediately have their head clean shaven, the taco bell logo tattooed permanently onto their scalp and given an addl taco bell togo bag doo-rag to wear.

2nd offense. The offender would face 3 weeks of dining at his/her local taco bell and consuming ONLY pintos & cheese and water for breakfast, lunch, dinner, midnight snack etc.

Nah, not really, but alot of times I scroll past it or take it for the satire it is. Feel free to make up your own. We had someone once that tried to do satire as a liberal, but it just wasn’t as funny – but who knows, you and others might like it, so give it a try. There was a poster once during the Democratic National Convention that did a time schedule and it had things like “11:00 a.m. “Flag Burning; 11:30-2:00 “Gay Marriages” that kind of thing and it was hilarious. I wish I’d have saved it.

Not even a week has passed since Gov. Jan Brewer signed into law tough measures targeting illegal immigrants, but Manrique and others who own businesses that cater primarily to Phoenix’s large Hispanic community say they are already feeling the effects.

“I think they’re afraid of being out on the streets knowing they’re going to get pulled over by the sheriff,” says Manrique, a Mexican-born U.S. citizen who has lived in Phoenix since the 1990s. “A lot of people told me they’re afraid to go out even though the law’s not fully passed.”

Interesting contradiction with liberals when it comes to the healthcare and immigration debates. Liberals have no problems with the federal govt. having control over our healthcare system and all of the consequences that entails, but when it comes to immigration/citizenship it’s “don’t tread on me.”

Never mind that one of the express roles of the federal govt. is national security and immigration (Article One, Section 8).

Off topic, but when was I ever one to stay on topic, I was thinking the other day about tougher banking regulations and thought how that would affect (effect?) businesses and individuals. We all say we want them, and we’ve all cried out that “banks need to start loaning money to the little guy, small business and families” but isn’t that kind of what got us in this mess to begin with? Say we go back to the day of tough loaning practices, that’s going to significantly reduce the amount of money that gets loaned out.

Anywho….just a random thought on this beautiful Wednesday afternoon, in between attempts to see my actual desk, and make some kind of attempt to clean it.

I’m with you, but it’s going to be a slap in the face to alot of folks who are shocked when they get told they can’t have a loan, and if the banks are consistent on who they say yes and no to.

For example, say a developer who has gone bankrupt three times in the past decade due to bad planning on building subdivisions vs. the family who bought too much house. Do you say no to both? Say the developer promises economic prosperity, new jobs, etc. Do you still say no? In my opinion, the answer is yes, but I don’t think some will see it that way, and is that good business?

So you are cheering that more businesses are suffering? It doesn’t say businesses owned by illegals, nor do you say illegal day laborers. So, you are just glad that the people are suffering altogether?

Nope. Not cheering at all. I’m merely pointing out the Law of Unintended Consequences. A state law intended to hurt illegal immigrants instead hurts legal immigrants who own businesses catering to some of those illegal immigrants. It goes to show what happens when political grandstanding rushes ahead, without due consideration of all the potential consequences. People who’ve worked for years to establish businesses are now about to have their businesses wiped out by an ill-considered law that doesn’t accomplish its purpose of driving out the illegals. Rather, the illegals go underground, refuse to come out to conduct normal shopping, and the people hurt most are those who worked to attain their U.S. citizenship. There’s no sign that any of the illegals will leave; they’ll merely become hard to spot. Meantime, the legal immigrants will go broke. Thus, the new law is perverse in its effect.

You misinterpret me horribly if you interpret my earlier remarks as a celebration of the misery being inflicted on these legitimate business owners. Meantime, I might point out, not a thing is being done about the shady companies that employ the illegal immigrants.
