Well, I set still while the eggheads on this blog fussed about Wall Street banks and new guvmint regulations. I didn’t see nothing to get upset about except maybe a threat to Trickle Down if they go too far.

But I won’t stand for another attack on Sarah. I draw the line there. Here’s a woman the Lord blessed by giving her millions of bucks. And we all know only the Lord’s favorite people get the big bucks. It says so right there in the Bible.

But let’s get to the real problem some of her critics have. Wealth envy. Now be honest with yourself. If you got $400,000 for just jawing away at some convention for 30 minutes, would you take the deal? Sure you would! It wouldn’t matter if you wrote your speech notes on your hand, your wrist, your rear end, or somebody else’s rear end. You’d take the deal.

Being able to make alot of money don’t mean Sarah won’t make a great President. Us people in the Tea Party will turn out in droves to vote for her. So somebody needs to tell Bookman to get off of his high horse and stop blasting Sarah for getting rich. Maybe next time she’ll have so much money she won’t need the GOP to buy a half million bucks worth of clothes for her and her family when she hits the campaign trail. She’ll probly toss a hundred dollar bill at this Michael Steele and watch him dive to the floor to get it, like a half-starved coon dog going for a ham bone.

As a conservative, I’ll say this;

1) It’s disappointing that so many conservatives view her as presidential material. I view her as someone who should have stuck it out as governor, and possibly run for Senate afterwards. President, or even VP? No way.

2) It horrifying yet illustrative to see the hate spewing out from left regarding Ms. Palin. I think, to a certain extent, support for Palin among conservatives is largely a result of a natural tendency to defend a nice lady who gets treated completely unfairly by the liberal media and the rest of the left. It’s amusing to see and hear the left describe themselves as compassionate. The attacks on Palin have gone far, far beyond anything that can be shrugged off as “that’s just politics.”

Oh…and while she is no Einstein, she has a far better idea of what is good for America and for Americans than does the current administration.

As a public servant, she complained that the media was always tearing down hard-working public servants. Wasn’t it the RNC who used the Palin kids to promote their “family values” and “She’s a REAL woman!” schtick? Why were they pulled out of school and trotted out in the spotlight? Especially the pregnant one? As a mom, I did not perceive that any of the RNC-driven publicity was in the best interest of those children. Of course it’s ugly and wrong to attack children!! Why were they dragged in front of the cameras? Okay, Let’s talk something closer to my mood today and something Jay and the bloggers hereabouts ought to be considering:

The little ones finished up their CRCT testing today…five days, three hours a day bubbling in. Whether they pass or not dependent on these scores. And you blathering crackpots, you, too, Jay, know what? They got through the whole megillah and NEVER HAD TO WRITE A SINGLE WORD and NEVER HAD TO SHOW THEIR RESOLUTION OF THE MATH PROBLEM. No wonder we’re headed pell mell into a new Dark Age….But a rehash or Sarah’s $12 million and quasi-literate scribblings… now THAT’s something to be commented on… OY!

Yes, I am aware that a candidate’s children show up for photos and stand behind mommy or daddy on big days. But the Palin children were subjected to much more than the usual “Oh, aren’t those cute children!” stuff, as I’m sure you remember. That the teen was preggers and unwed was something that should have been treated with some measure of modesty, IMO. Instead, they bought the boy a suit, told everyone they were getting married, and thrust them forward into the “SEE? We have family values!” circus. When any non-Repub dared to comment on THAT, the “You’re attacking the children!” screeching began. Sheesh. Mom should have said, “My daughter’s condition is a private matter. Why don’t you ask me another foreign policy question instead?”

Obama is the ULTIMATE case of branding in American Politics. He’s got a logo, he’s got slogans, he’s got people buying books, posters, stickers, t-shirts, videos and building little shrines to him in their homes. Apple should market themselves as well… and they do. He’s laid out the blueprint for modern politics going forward, and now the Dems are mortified to discover that the formula works for the other guys (or gal) as well.

I’ve said for months that Sarah Palin is the same as Obama; young, charismatic, photogenic and completely, utterly unburdened by experience or accomplishment. The fact that this is the state of politics today does not bode well for our republic.

Look, Sarah Palin’s role in the conservative movement is to help keep liberal pundits talking about her instead of anything relevant.

At the end of the day, the independents who decide elections do not make their choices based on what Sarah Palin or Al Gore say. They make their choice based on issues and policy. Conservatives have been crushing the left in the debate over issues and policy and are increasing their advantage.

The left should be spending its time making the case for the deeply unpopular health reform. Instead, Jay and the rest of the spokesmen for the left waste their breath griping about Sarah Palin. She is pretty much an irrelevant distraction, but apparently an extraordinarily effective one.

What case was that, exactly? I used that term about myself and my friends, and to me it neither debases nor glorifies the condition. Is your disgust for “breeders” seeping out? I thought the teenaged girl (and the boyfriend) should be sheltered somewhat from the spotlight of a highly-contentious national election. Why exactly is that a problem for YOU? Does your vast experience as a mother trump mine?

It’s a snippy term. Yes, I use them, too and in relation to myself as well, but they’re snippy nonetheless. I am not “disgusted” by “breeders,” for if it weren’t for them there’d be none of us. And when I use the term, I am being snippy…

As for my “vast experience as a mother” is concerned, Unmentionable and I brought to responsible adulthood his two orphaned nephews and a goddaughter whose mother was not able to…so I have PLENTY of experience in parenting…oh, and BTW, they send me an Unmentionable a “Muth-ahs Day card every year…

I’ll have to remember to wish you a happy mother’s day, then. I am not being snippy when I use the word. Why would I be snippy? Being preggers is no picnic — it’s tough, no matter who you are!! I was appalled at the many ways in which both those teens were both maligned and used. My initial point in this discussion was that I faulted the parents and the RNC for dragging them out into the spotlight where so many others saw them as fair game for cheap shots. To fault one “side” and excuse the other, IMO, is hypocritical.

Well don’t forget how much richer Al Gore has gotten since he left office and got into the fear-peddling business. He also was a far harsher critic of Bush than Palin has been of Obama. Let’s not forget Al’s wacky shouting of “They lied to us!!! They played on our fears!!!”

It is the height of irony that the same people who demonize Palin worship Al Gore. Palin is a piker at the partisan, money-making ex-pol. Shoot, Gore won a Nobel and an Oscar for his version of Palin’s schtick.

In a CBS poll, just 21 percent wanted Palin to run; 71 percent did not. Even among Republicans, 56 percent did not want her to run. Just 30 percent did.

As a politician, she has no broad base of support. As a celebrity, she has exactly what she needs to make a lot of money, which is a very intense if relatively small segment of fans

But yet, here you are writing about her. And your not alone. This woman is attacked on a weekly basis. What is it about this woman that liberals find such a threat? Look how many times she was attacked in this blog alone.

And for the record. I am an independant and would never vote for her. However, it is clear that she has struck a nerve. Maybe, just maybe, the fact that she is outspoken and dares to take on the ‘politcally correct’ in this country unravels the nerves.

Let me help you all out. It doesn’t matter if you are on the left or the right today. What matters is if you are fiscally careful (note I did not say conservative). The party that convinces the American public that they will reel in the spending and not increase taxes wins. And it will NOT be close.

New York magazine discovers that Sarah Palin is making a lot of money, and dutifully quotes Kathy Griffin date/nude model/ne’er-do-well Levi Johnson.

The figures: “The numbers are staggering. Over the past year, Palin has amassed a $12 million fortune and shows no sign of slowing down. Her memoir has so far sold more than 2.2 million copies, and Palin is planning a second book with HarperCollins. This January, she signed a three-year contributor deal with Fox News worth $1 million a year, according to people familiar with the deal. In March, Palin and Burnett sold her cable show to TLC for a reported $1 million per episode, of which Palin is said to take in about $250,000 for each of the eight installments.”

Noel Sheppard, writing at NewsBusters, notes that the article probably shocks some New York Times readers by saying some nice things about Palin: “Sherman had some remarkably positive things to say about Palin likely to the dismay of his largely New York City-based readership: “Though Palin may not like it, she makes money for Democrats and Republicans alike. Ian Lazaran, writing at Conservatives 4Palin, tries to lay out how Palin can make a lot of money and have folks still applaud when she jabs at ‘elites’: “That the left believes in this narrative shows how poorly they understand how conservatives/Republicans view wealth/money as opposed to elitism. The left is conflating wealth/money with elitism. No populist-leaning conservative/Republicans has any issue with wealth or money that is earned through the free market. Governor Palin has never criticized anyone for making too much money through the free market. In fact, one reason why conservatives and Republicans so aggressively support tax cuts for even the wealthiest Americans is that those who have excelled through the free market should not be punished for their success. What conservatives and Republicans like Governor Palin don’t support is elitism, which is the idea that someone with a particular educational background or a person who comes from a high social class is inherently graced with superior ideas and qualifications. Liberals like Sherman fail to understand the distinction between money/wealth and elitism. The former is something that conservatives and Republicans like Palin applaud. The latter is something that we denounce.”

Something I would note – the very top of the heap in the punditry/talking head world has become amazingly lucrative. (Speaking from the lower rungs, I can tell you, when it trickles down, it’s almost an actual trickle.) According to Forbes, Glenn Beck Inc. made $31 million last year, and only $2 million of that was from his Fox News television show. In some ways, this is good; if these folks can get network executives, publishers, and other media leaders with money to sign the big paychecks, they’ve earned them, and they ensure that no one who enthralls the conservative base will have to worry about money.

But perhaps the Palin precedent is a little worrisome in that private life is now so much more appealing and exponentially more lucrative than working in government and trying to change policies. When the next conservative rising star appears in a governorship, or in the Senate – hey look, Scott Brown has a book deal! – or in a state legislature or some other part of public life, the option of television punditry and paid-speech tours will look much, much more attractive than the hard slog of staying in public office and actually achieving things. Even the job of POTUS “only” pays $400,000 per year, but the perks are pretty good, considering you live in public housing.

The political world is already a playground for millionaires, and those few politicians earning “only” the modest six figures probably look on in envy at the millionaires and billionaires who surround them. When you look at the life of a person outside the system, but who retains enormous political influence – i.e. Palin – why would you want the grief that comes from being president or governor?
