A bit of the new to get your travelin’ feet a-movin’

I don’t often highlight new artists or music here, in large part because I don’t hang out in the clubs as much I did in the old days, so I don’t get to hear that music where it ought to be heard. But I happened to be at Smith’s Olde Bar a couple of weeks ago listening to bands, and the first two or three to hit the stage were pretty good. Then this guy named Tim Brantley, the headliner, comes on and all of a sudden I find myself gravitating toward the stage to watch, because he’s better than pretty good. He was pretty damn good, and the “damn” makes all the difference.

I don’t know much about him, but this is one of the songs he played that night, accompanied by a guy who played a kickin’, rockin’-out cello, if you can believe it. I’m not sure you can capture live music all that well on video, but see if you like it.

Since I’m first:

Awhile back Jay had a Friday music thread about cheatin’ hearts. I think it had something to do with Tiger.

Anyway, I heard this Radiohead tune for the first time in awhile yesterday and it made me realize how much I wished I’d thought to post a link to it back when it was on topic. Better late than never.

“Blame it on the satellite that beams me home.”

(There aren’t but a few lyrics I can think of that actually have you sympathizing a bit with the cheater, that identifies the pathology for what it is.)

I’ll go call sheets downstairs.

“According to the first lady, the Obamas discuss tigers at least once a week. Apparently Malia, 11, is concerned about what her father’s administration is doing to save the big cats, who are an endangered species. ”He tells her he’s working on it and there are a lot of people who are thinking about it,” she said. “but I think, the Obama household, we’re trying to save the tigers.”

Boy, am I relieved ………………… I thought they were discussing Tiger !

That was music? I know. Fuddy duddy but all I heard was the usual thump thump band and some guy screeching like into a pipe with an echo while his hair fell in his face. Or maybe into the pipe. Or maybe his family owns the club . Or maybe he plays for food or something.

But I gather that most of you like this kind of “music” even if you are as old as Methusala but try to act young. That’s OK too. Everybody wants to be young and “with it”. But this music is enough to kill ya’!! May you be delivered from this decibel disaster.

Jay….I have the same problem trying to dig newer musicians/performers. The problem is in how one gets to hear them. We tend to stay locked into our musical ruts….same performers, same radio stations, etc.

I was TV channel surfing about 3-4 of years ago and stopped on BET (the show was a daytime talk show). The performer was a skinny guy with a guitar sitting on a 3-legged stool, and the song he was singing wiped me out. I found out his name (Amos Lee), and went in search of his music. At first I could only find his CD at Starbucks. Bought 4 of them and handed them out to friends. Since then I’ve seen him twice in concert (had to trek down to the ATL to do it). Dude can write & sing some R&B.

Both are Semitic languages and very closely related…a person fluent in one can read the other without a great deal of difficulty—the spoken is a bit different. The “bridge” is Aramaic…Sephardic Hebrew is very strongly influenced by Arabic as are Ladino and Spanish and Portuguese… One of my favorites is the Spanish-Ladino “ojalá” which you hear all the time in the sense of “would that, I wish, etc..” and it comes from the Arabic Inshallah”, “G-d Willing…”

A cello rocks!!?!! I’m gonna have to tell that to my husband. His girlfriend in high school played the cello. He told her it was him or the cello (he hated lugging it around). Next up, her dad is running him out of town at the point of a gun. Good thing! She’s been divorced three times.

“Music – the universal language.”

One of my other all-time-favorite short sci fi stories (hey josef nix, didja’ read Mimsy Were the Borogroves?) was about an Earth spaceship that encountered another ship. Both came to a stop as they dealt with the conundrum of not knowing the intentions of the other – could their route be retraced and the home planed destroyed?

There they sat, with the storyteller relating the heavy burden of the captain. Finally a means of communication was established. They’d communicate, then the leaders would consider how to respond. Finally they decided on a meet.

The end was the captain telling the radio operator he hoped things would work out between them. The young radio operator said he was sure they would. The captain asked his source of optimism. The radio operator said “Because for the last half hour their radio operator and I have been swapping dirty jokes.”

It means a humiliating, debasing, servile lifestyle physically forced on infidels by Islamic rule over the centuries wherein you exchange your freedom for your life. Scout here’s an excerpt taken from your article that I’d like to address A paradox: while the Muslim community is trying to obtain the preservation of its peculiarities, in very stereotypical neighborhoods, a non-Muslim will look in vain for a non-halal butcher, or an alcohol bar. The simple effect of market law? Undoubtedly. But it changes daily life and modifies perceptions. With regrets and sadness for some. With anger for others.

In ‘old Molenbeek’, for example, alcoholic beverages aren’t served anymore in the social restaurant and the cultural center, supported by the municipality, and in the small cafe across from the police station, run by a Turk. In the public markets Arabic is spoken and the veil is omnipresent, but it’s the religious atmosphere that’s disturbing.

The main point of the whole article is basically “the muslims otherness that they tend to hang on to makes them real scary and threatening to the non muslim people of the district where they live”.

It just seems a little ridiculous to me. Been to NY lately? Ever go to China Town or to Brighton Beach? How about Harlem or Spanish Harlem (the bronx)? These neighborhoods are known for their ethnic make up. I really don’t see the difference, nor do I see the basis for the articles’ fear of something different.

And while I’m away

Dust out the demons inside

And it won’t be long

Before you and me run

To the place in our hearts

Where we hide

And I guess that’s why

They call it the blues

Time on my hands

Could be time spent with you

Laughing like children

Living like lovers

Rolling like thunder under the covers

And I guess that’s why

They call it the blues

Just stare into space

Picture my face in your hands

Live for each second

Without hesitation

And never forget I’m your man

Without me girl

Cry in the night if it helps

But more than ever I simply love you

More than I love life itself

Given that it would’ve provided both lefties and righties here a chance to legitimately criticize the Obama administration, I’m a little surprised that Richard Clarke’s media tour this past week or so in support of his new book didn’t make more of a splash among the Bookmaniacs.

I’ve heard a couple of interviews with the guy (on Fresh Air and Maddow), happened upon this newsweek piece, if anyone’s interested.

NW: Where does Obama stand on cyberstrategy?

RC: He doesn’t have one. He took a year to appoint a cyber czar. I do believe [the administration] intends to do more, but they haven’t decided yet on what that is.

[...]

NW: [Obama has] said that he doesn’t believe in imposing regulations on the private sector, right?

RC: He said, in general, he believed that cybersecurity should be done without regulation. [Director of President Obama's National Economic Council] Larry Summers wrote that into the president’s statement. I don’t know that the president fully understood the meaning of that. I think it’s still an issue that could be discussed with him, if the need arose, and he could be convinced. But I think Larry Summers is the obstacle that would have to be overcome there.

Today, malaria still claims about one million lives every year—mostly women and children in sub-Saharan Africa. There’s no evidence that spraying the chemical inside homes in the amounts needed to combat the disease harms humans, animals or the environment. Yet DDT remains severely underutilized in the fight against malaria because the intellectual descendants of Senator Nelson continue to hold sway at the World Health Organization and other United Nations agencies.-WSJ

It just amazes that liberals have no problem with 1,000,000 people a year dying so that they can protect their beloved junk science and a-hole pet causes.

How stupid can you be to think that liberals “care” about other people?

Deceits, Mistakes and Victims of Multiculturalism

Seyran Ates, increasingly stifled by her authoritarian home environment, decided to run away from her family when she was seventeen, and sought refuge in a women’s shelter where she lived in a community of battered Turkish and German women. An ultra-nationalist band of Turkish youths invaded the women’s center in 1984, guns blazing. Ates was shot in the throat and severely wounded; the woman next to her was killed.

Ates considers left-wing activists particularly culpable for the mistakes made in the current integration policy: for a long time they hindered any debate. Despite all that left-wing activists aspire to, she maintains that they never look closely enough at what is actually happening in the communities that have settled in Germany.

The Rev. Franklin Graham has been “uninvited” to pray at the Pentagon. It apparently counts for nothing that Graham’s charitable organization, Samaritan’s Purse, has delivered compassionate care in the name of Jesus to millions of Muslim children around the world for decades.

But ……………………………

•Devout Muslims have a sacred responsibility, according to the command of Allah through his prophet Muhammad, to “slay the idolaters wherever you find them (Sura 9:5).” Over 100 verses in the Koran call for the death of infidel Christians and Jews. We have seen the tragic fruit of this ideology both on 9/11 and at Fort Hood. Islam is not, in fact, a religion of peace but of violence, death and war.

•Islam, through the example of Muhammad, sanctions the marriage of girls who are but children. Muhammad himself began having sex with his youngest wife Aisha when she was just nine years old (Bukhari, Vol. 8). Just last week, a 12-year-old girl in Saudi Arabia went to court to divorce her 80-year-old husband. In the West, these are acts of pedophilia and utterly at odds with the Christian principle that the sexual purity of young females is to be protected until they are mature enough to voluntarily and freely enter into marriage.

•Christians are granted only second class status under Islam, and are given only three choices where Islam reigns: conversion, submission or death. Conversion from Islam to Christianity remains a capital offense in many Muslim countries. In supposedly free Egypt, Coptic Christians are even today routinely harassed, persecuted and killed by Islamic fundamentalists. Freedom of religion, a profoundly American value, is utterly absent in Islam. Further, this practice is directly at variance with the fundamental concept in American jurisprudence that we are all, everyone of us, equal under the law.

•Women under the iron fist of Islam are given “horrid” treatment. In many Islamic countries, women are not allowed to receive an education or even show their faces in public. Husbands are taught in the Koran that they may literally beat their wives into submission, completely contrary to the Christian admonition that husbands are to “love their wives as Christ loved the church.” The blatant and deadly sexism in Islam is contrary to the fundamental Christian precept that men and women are full equals before the true God in spiritual worth, value and significance.

•The practice of honor killings is widespread in the Islamic world. According to the U.N., over 5,000 women a year are brutally murdered under the flag of Islam, in many cases because they have brought “dishonor” to their families by becoming the tragic victims of rape. The “horrid” practice of honor killings sadly has come to the U.S. A Muslim husband decapitated his wife in New York, while a Muslim father in Texas shot his two teenage daughters to death in the back of a taxi cab and another Muslim father in Arizona ran his daughter down with the family SUV. The crime in the latter two cases was that their daughters had become too “Westernized.” This practice is utterly at odds with the Christian teaching that fathers are to nurture and protect their children.

“THE HYPOCRISY OF THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA”

I THINK IT IS REMARKABLE THAT WITHIN A WEEK OF TIGER WOODS CRASHING HIS
ESCALADE, THE PRESS FOUND EVERY WOMAN WITH WHOM TIGER HAS HAD AN AFFAIR
IN THE LAST FEW YEARS, WITH PHOTOS, TEXT MESSAGES, RECORDED PHONE CALLS, ETC.AND, THEY NOT ONLY KNOW THE CAUSE OF THE FAMILY FIGHT, BUT THEY EVEN KNOW IT WAS A WEDGE FROM HIS GOLF BAG THAT HIS WIFE USED TO BREAK OUT THE WINDOWS IN THE ESCALADE. NOT ONLY THAT, THEY KNOW WHICH WEDGE!

AND EACH AND EVER DAY, THEY GIVE AMERICA MORE UPDATES ON HIS SEX-REHAB STAY, HIS WIFE’S PLANS FOR DIVORCE, AND HIS RETURN TO THE PRO-GOLF CIRCUIT.

OBAMA HAS BEEN IN OFFICE FOR OVER A YEAR NOW, AND THIS SAME PRESS STILL
CANNOT LOCATE OBAMA’S OFFICIAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE, OR ANY OF HIS PAPERS WHILE
IN COLLEGE, OR HOW HE PAID FOR A HARVARD EDUCATION, OR WHICH COUNTRY
ISSUED HIS VISA TO TRAVEL TO PAKISTAN IN THE 1980′S AS BARRY SORETORO AND
EVEN MICHELLE OBAMA’S PRINCETON THESIS ON RACISIM. IT JUST CAN’T BE FOUND?
YET THE PUBLIC STILL TRUSTS THAT SAME PRESS TO GIVE THEM
THE WHOLE TRUTH . . .

TRULY REMARKABLE!

Why don’t we have the courage to call them by their real names …… Liberals?
